Well as a 53 necro I opened the big doors back there(was camping the icy for the book but got bored and just wandered around wasting everything between spawns).I saw the Diplomat and took off back towards my pet which I'd left on the ledge. He first tried to dispell me then followed with a nuke I resisted.By then he was out into the King room proper and my pet was on him.I got back up on the ledge and cast darkness twice, then envemoned bolt and finally drain soul.He resisted every cast but pet took him out.I think he must have had some kinda change since people who say they landed all these spells on him.He dropped 5 25wt throwing boulders.
I went to go get a block of permafrost for my epic, had to go through this guy first. At level 60 I resisted all his spells, and he didn't hit that hard. When he runs though, he starts porting all over the place like shadow step. Had to use my fellstrike while chasing him once because of all the goblin priests healing him lol.

This morning we had a group of 5 consisting of a 25 Cleric, 25 Ranger, 24 Monk, 24-27? Rogue, and myself a 30 Druid. We were getting a little tour of the place by a couple lvl 50+ guildies. After our group took out the King, we had one of our guildies pull the diplomat out. Very very close. Our cleric was chain casting heals over the melees as I waited until they reduced it a little. Then started casting Combust (my lvl 29 DD spell) and it stuck 3 straight times for full damage at 174. Then lucky for me, I got aggro'd and the darn thing had me at about 150 hps when my last Combust stuck and turned him and the melee's killed him off quick. So, no deaths and with a little help from some 50+, buffs mostly, a 24-30 group took him down with no deaths. He doesnt have quite the hps as a normal Hill Giant of sort, but he has some nasty nukes and was doubling up for 90. Good luck with him and btw, the King dropped the cloak but I lost.
I'm a level 45 monk - that's 10 levels above ice giant diplomat. When I was in king room camping Thex Ra I wandered too close to the door to the diplomats room. First nuke was about 190 pts, 2nd was 250. For those not keeping score, that's almost half my hitpoints gone before I even knew what was happending. If FD had failed I would have been dead meat.Under the circumstances, I have to agree with those who say he undercons.
The dip has been pissing me off while i try to solo in the king room, due to his huge aggro radius, but my guild will be raiding perma this week so we'll take him down. I was wondering what kind of loot he has if any? Can't seem to find that info anywhere.
Soloed alot of the goblins in permafrost for loots and knew about this fellow. Decided to take him with my level 38 untwinked necro, so buff my pet and me up with all my buffs, then medded up. I went in and pulled him out of the doors, sent in pet and off load all my dots on him, then root him and waited. Pet lasted a while due to heals, but eventually died, which caused the rooted giant to go all crazy with wizard nukes. When he went down, I had lost my pet, my mana was 0 and my HP was down to 8, but I had survived and killed him. The key to my success seems to be the pet bashing alot and thereby interrupting his spells, which he used (or tried to use) alot. I would not try to do it with a 38 necro, since I think I was incredible lucky. I think a 39 necro with the pet would have alot bigger chance, but its still risky. A 44 necro should have few problems with him.
Lvl 35 monky here was trying to get High Preist Zahrin lil' helm and. was in kind room. not even as far the the little rock outcropping. and this guy aggroed from a room and a half away and kicked my head in. it sucked.
Iv'e raided this plave many times king room with guild, or have just killed out spawn in King room with high levels waiting for vox raids to start. I can tell from exp that champ is comptely random he will spawn or a PH of a elite, or goblin warlock will spawn in it's place. You gotta be ready as well because as soon as the giant hits the ground in 10 seconds the doors that the giant was pulled through in will walk a champ or PH so there will be no time for a med break.

It conned blue to me (36th lvl cleric) and overall most of the gob's didn't aggro till the bard went to pull the preacher and ended up pulling the whole darn zone to our footsteps.

Not sure what aoe spells you have but up to lvl 49 i haven't gotten a cleric aoe that hits more then 3 mobs at once. how you pissed off "everything" doesn't make much sense.

Careful when fighting the Diplomat; regardless of level.
I am a 49 Druid, and the Ice Giant Diplomat cons green to me. It conned blue to someone else close by that was level 37.
This thing kicked my butt -
It must have an INCREDIBLY high, if not 100%, magic resist and Fire resist. It resisted Drones of Doom (Something that is only RARELY resisted) and Starfire several times. Not one of these went through.
It hits for about 60-80, which isn't that bad, but it casts magic based spells over and over.
It did not resist root, which I casted twice and both stuck. It also didn't resist the Enhanters root that was with me, but resisted everything else the 'chanter threw at it.
I didn't try my Ice based spell, that seemed pretty pointless... but, I may give it a shot sometimes. (I know doing Ice sounds really stupid, but I've found that the Ice giants outside Perma don't resist it often)
I know the resists have changed since the last patch. The IGs outside used to resist my casts regularly, but now I'd say maybe 1% of my casts are resisted. I don't even cast Malosi anymore.
It sounds like it has a lower Magic resistance than fire, if the roots took. I'd be curious to go in with a Warrior and a Cleric and see if he still resists.
The Outdoor Ice Giants don't resist at all. The ones INSIDE Permafrost, however, resist like MAD. I was trying to cast on a Light Blue Ice Giant Mage, and could not land a single spell. Doesn't seem fair
this puppy is grossly under conned. kicked me(42rogue)&(47druid)friend around. might have been casue we tryed to root and shoot. which seems impossible on this beast. also had no clue he was a major caster. good luck with this one.
Nah, every single time I camped the throne room the champion spawned after we killed the dip. sucks they are lore, we had only 4 people, we each got one and 7 of em rotted.
As the others posted before, you will be guaranteed a resist if you are not within melee range of any of the ice giants inside, including the diplomat.
Dont bother to melee casters, just get a real tank meaning WARRIOR and hopefully they arent some idiot druid twink and know how to play their class, they will be able to hold it taunted on them and you can be close and cast. Like I usually say, you kind have to crawl up his crack to cast on him .. its better that way too so that your warrior knows that if he flips around he needs to taunt hard to get him turned back around and not hitting his casters/clerics.
Its a verant way of nerfing...you have to be in melee or in melee range for spells to work, otherwise its a guranteed resist. So all you wizards out there crack out your daggers.
Heh, kind of funny to look back at what people considered nerfing in the early stages of the game. Glad they didn't continue on with the total resist outside of melee range idea cus it would mean death now in PoP and such boss encounters...
Was camping the king room and our tank decided to pull this guys for the fun of it. I (being lvl 36 Wiz) got resists on every spell I cast on him except nullify magic. All the casters in the group got full resists, except the enchanter casting color flux or whatever. Our cleric rooted him once though as he was running. It was pretty exciting...
