I'm having trouble locating them in Butcherblock. I managed to find one and he didn't have a tounge. I haven't found another yet. I've been running all around the area near the LDoN camp side of the map with no luck finding them. Any help would be appriciated. Known placeholders...Etc..
WARNING: these things can be sorta tough if ur not a caster and under lvl 10. My 11 rogue used to take them when he was 7 or so and they would often take away half his hp cause of their annoying stun. Once you get about 9 or so they r VERY Easy and not bad exp or loot (if i can remember)Anyways noncasters beware
I killed one of these things at lvl 5. It was lvl 7 very easy because i had skin like steel took about 5 mins to kill lol and i do 19 dmg a hit very sad how come these have to stun?
actually, I have to poitn out a correction to the lowland basilisk. you stated that they stun but not turn you to stone. I have had personal experience of them turning their opponent to stone. I have a level 10 paladin and I only survived because I ran to the closest guard shack and they killed it.
Last night i nailed 2 to death with no buffs and a ran out of ranged weapons, I have a regular 2h sword and it was a fairly easy kill, i got a bassilisk tongue whats that sell for?
I have a level 11 druid who has been soloing these since lvl 8. Only did one at level 8, but at 9 they became easy. Cast both damage shields on yourself, then attack. every time it hits you it does 6 damage to itself, and usually 1 or 2 to you. This is with decent low level equipment, split paw tunic, some studded leather, and a chitin shell shield. Fading shadow scimitar as weapon (bought before stonebrunt, cheap, hehe). I usually pull from max range with a snare, nuke it until it is close enough to start stunning, and then autoattack on, which gives a hit every time you unstun, and continuously click flame strike. every time I resist the stone breath, 30+ pts dmg to the basilisk. Usually drop them with half mana left and one bubble of life gone. Don't need a pet, just right tactics. Course the giant scarabs are easier for the exp, and loot is about as poor.
I have a great reason to hunt these stun masters... looted Basilisk eggs make 15 clumps of dough PER EGG !! I don't currently have the funds to buy a stack of these bad boys, but I'm sure the bakers of Norrath would pay a pretty penny for these...

how often these things drop eggs? id really love to use em for my baking. ive been killing them for a while and havent gotten any. do they even drop them? if they dont anyone know a place where the basilisks do drop em?
hehe im a ranger and i soloed one of these at lvl 8 (im now 9) it was yellow to me and it only stunned me once (but i have high magic resist for my lvl) so kill them if you have decent magic resists just for fun and maybe you can sell the tongues, some people pay for them (i guess because they are used in some quest)
anywho to the guy who was wondering if his group of him and a warrior could take these, YES you can you have a healer and a tank as long as both of you aren't stunned then you should be fine
yes they can still stun you when they are rooted. It lasts much longer than any other stuns I've seen at that level. A while ago my lvl 14 dru was still being stunned so it appear to affect slightly higher levels also. Good Luck.
i could solo them when i was 10 or 11, i use my shielding song and it boost my resist so i can blast em... it's harder to beat them with a bard than a pure meelee or pure caster obviously
Hell yeh enchanter's can solo, I solo yellow cons all the time without a pet with my level 8 enchanter, with a color flux a root, chaotic feed back, then I meditate hit it with a suffocating sphere and nuke it some more
Well, well. These guys are my long time opponents. I will agree that having a pet helps (I'm an enchanter), but the secret lies in your attack pattern. I recommend a stun spell, such as Color Flux, and Root for openers. Then blast the h-e-double-hockey-sticks with whatever spell you have available. See, even an enchanter can solo these things....
One thing I haven't seen mentioned here is that you can turn in 4 Basilisk Tongues to the gnome behind the building that contains all the spellcasters' guilds in Ak'Anon for xp, a small amount of money and a spell. The spell APPEARS to be a random spell and probably a random lvl 4 spell. When I completed the quest I got Elemental Kin: Earth. Being a Wizard, I had to sell it for under a gold, which was no fun at all.
I have recieved level 1, 4, and 8 scrolls. However, it is still a very good quest because of the experience gained. Easily a half bubble at level 9. However, these basilisk are quite difficult to solo early on (without a pet), due to their petrification ability.
I kept seeing these around, so I picked on a weak on with my level 9 ranger. Was stunned for half the time but killed it anyway. It's neat to kill something different, but being stunned so much is a bother. Maybe cast that dinky Flame Lick DoT on it before the fight if you have it.
Once, Me and Canelar (a level 5 Paladin with AotIB.) pretty easily killed a level 7 (8?) one of these things. Conned yellow to me. We both just went all out on that slimy creature.
I was hoping someone mention it. They are not worth it, but killing em is just fun. Whenever they start casting, I go backwards a little, and they cant stun me, and I love putting THAT in their faces.
sigh... You know, this is why pets RULE!! I tip my hat to anyone smart enough to be a class that gets pets, because then you don't have to worry about being stunned or even loosing much exp. you just send you pet after it and nuke it a few times, that way, you are never in any serious danger unless you go for something too strong like an idiot. So I'll say it one more time, PETS RULE!!!
These things are really fun to whack on..... With my NOW 14th LvL Dwarf Pally. I will just walk by and see a green con PC getting whacked on by 1 of these and i will kill it VERY easily, and they will THANK THE GODS for kind paladins lol
As a druid I found that these can be solo'd very easy. Im level 10 and use the folowing spell combination works great. Thistle,Wirling wind, burst burst burst.... Yes you get stun and may want to test with a friend first. Helps your defence offence and weapon skill out as well.
If my level 6 ranger gets in its face and eats stun, while my level 6 cleric friend strikes it and smacks it with a stick, and maybe healing me every now and then, we can take them.
The stun spell is *extremely evil*. I tried to solo an even con basilisk and usually didn't get a chance to hit it between stuns. Needless to say, I died. Watch out with these.
