Classes: The Shaman

Shamen - primitive power. The only magic using class of the barbarians, ogres and trolls, shamen get a variety of spells that combine aspects of most of the other magic using classes. This combination, along with the racial strength, means the class can be played in a variety of different ways.

What is the best way to develop and play your shaman? What spells and skills are the most and least useful? Can a shaman be soloed, and if so how? How should you play your shaman in a group?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Shaman and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

Can someone give me a rundown on Specialization? (conjuration, etc.) What does it do? How do you go about it? What is it useful for? What is the best thing in which to specialize? Thanks, Sabutant, lvl 30 Barb, Cazic Thule Server

Specialization is a random... thing (for lack of a better word) that happens when you cast a spell. The higher your skill is in that specialization, the better chance you have that the roll is successful. If the roll is successful, it will reduce the amount of mana used on the spell and reduce the chance of fizzling.

As far as a shaman goes, I strongly reccomend specializing in either Alteration or Abjuration. I picked Alteration for my shaman. What you want to do is at level 30 (I think its level 30) put 1 point into each of the fields, then choose which field you want to specialize in (lets say Alteration), and cast a low level spell on yourself that uses that field of magic. I casted Minor Healing on myself over and over again until I got the specialization up to 51. Once it is over 51, you can go about your normal playing because that is the field you will specialize most in. Only one field's specialization can go up over 50 so once one is over 50, the others will go up to 50 then stop. I believe that there is a quest you can do to reset your sepcialization, but you'll have to find out about that on your own.

I currently am looking into whither I have the correct Specializing choice before I get the AA to add the second Specialization above 50 to 100.

I think I set my Orginal Specialization on soloing and single groups and not on Guild Raiding since I was not in a guild yet.

Can any Guild Raiding lvl 70 Shaman tell me what Specializtion they have set for the 200 and 100 values?

Specialize Abjure 50
Specialize Alteration 200
Specialize Conjuration 50
Specialize Divination 50
Specialize Evocation 50

Alteration looks like the main one I use still.

For the original poster, I'd say Alteration (slows, heals, debuffs, most buffs) easily.

For the second question (about secondary specialization) I haven't seen it suggested in to many 'AA guide' threads under the 300-400 AA mark.

I personaly went over 50 in conjuration. IMO....chanters slow, clerics heal, I DoT mostly, cure, heal alot, but not nearly as much as i DoT. Every mob i fight, i DoT at least twice, sometimes three times if its gonna take long enough to kill....like i said, the cleric in the group can heal, im just there for back up when it comes to healing. Also i was getting mad today cause im looking through the spell list for us and we get a heal at 29...and not another one untill 51!!! kinda proves that at level 40-51 we arn't efficient healers at all. Second...i only slow if there isn't a chanter, which is about half the time.

My main specilazation is Conjuration, my second is gonna be alteration.

thats just my opinion
