    This task is the second group mission in a series for Solteris access. It follows this 'A City in Peril' mini-task series (required for progression and Combine Signet Ring upgrade).

    This task begins with Associate Researcher Maladoks and takes place in an instanced version of Thalassius, the Coral Keep.

    Following the 'City in Peril' mini-task:

    Associate Researcher Maladoks says 'Ah, so Prime Researcher Elnot sent you to speak with me about the Kedge? He must want you to seek out one of their artifacts. I think I know the one he is [interested] in.'

    You say, 'I would be interested'

    Associate Researcher Maladoks says 'Excellent, please enter Thalassius with great expediency and locate the sculpture of Prexus... when you have found it, copy the inscription and return it to me... be careful, I understand the habitation is not very safe at the moment.'

    You have been assigned the task 'Locating the Statue'.



    Enter Thalassius, the Coral Keep 0/1 (Katta Castrum)

    Thalassius is entered through the normal portal. When you cross it, you will get a text window asking if you want to enter the instance one or the regular one.



    Kill 4 statue guardians 0/4 (Thalassius, the Coral Keep)

    Four statue guardians are found surrounding the statue of Prexus.

    Kill 1 Brendanus Riordan 0/1 (Thalassius, the Coral Keep)

    Brendanus is in the western square room along with the statue.

    Examine the statue of Prexus 0/1 (Thalassius, the Coral Keep)

    One person can go into the room and "look" at the statue. Everyone in the group will get an Etching Transcript in their inventory.

    (IMPORTANT! Do not destroy the Etching Transcript. You need it for progression purposes.)



    Speak with Associate Researcher Maladoks 0/1 (Katta Castrum)

    Upon completion, you receive positive faction with Combine Empire Merchants, a number of Onux.

    For progression purposes, you need to complete this 'A City in Peril' mini-task, followed by the next 'A City in Peril' mini-task before moving onto the next group mission in the series, 'The Snakes are Hiding Something!'.

    Transcript still doesn't always spawn in instance. Only spawned for us on second try. We killed all mobs off of the platform and the tank approached the statue alone and got the transcript.

    You should change the quest description to say that everyone gets the etching AT turn in. The way you have it now makes it look like the whole group gets it when the first person does which made me repeat the mission thinking I'd done something wrong.

    ran this task 3 times. first two times we did not get transcript upon getting update for examining statue. I read down below, i had everyone stay out of the zone. i went in alone. i kiled off the 4 guards and name. then approaached the statue sowly 1 step at a time. i got up on the platform and circled it. then took 1 step closer. circled it again. took 1 steop closer and circled yet again. then 1 motre step closer and i got transcript. by then it was a full 15 mins into the task as well. i was wondering if you do it too fast it wont give you transcript. so deliberately took time and looked at it from all sides. multipel times. good luck to you whoever tried next

    Read the info from Trainmaster below. I followed the info and all was correct. The one guy I sent in to "inspect" the statue received the etching transcript and no one else. We left the zone and the toon with the item turned it into Maladoks. Everyone else received their own etching transcript, the quest update normally, and everyone had their Combine Signet Ring upgraded (all were wearing it at the time of turn-in).

    So no need to run out, etc. It is just not the normal quest pattern we are used to so don't worry on the one toon receiving the etching transcript.

    I three boxed this today and none of my toons received the transcript. We are stuck at step 5, deliver the transcript

    I petitioned and SOE promptly awarded my toons the transcript.I have run this mission a dozen or more times since then and each time the transcript is given as the quest requires.

    Now that my necro is 85, I tried to solo this.

    the pet pull strategy still works ok. From the surface I can command my pet to attack the statue mobs and if I'm close enough the mob and his buddies come up to the surface to find me.

    I have to run away a bit before they show up, if I stay where I was the mobs are on me too fast.

    I have to feign death, they hit way too hard.

    It's hard to pull a single, if you let them wander away while feigned they just poof back undeground. I have not tried this enough to get the technique down. I died once, did a little practice on them afterward, then I had to take off.

    we just did this mission. After we killed the 4 guards and the named (getting updates for all) we got to examine the statue. I got the update but no etched transcript on any of the group

    now the last line in task says
    "deliver the Tanscript to Associate Researcher Maladoks"

    Warning this is a HAIL update NOT A HAND IN

    Warning this line looks like a HAND IN and confused our group but it is just a hail and you then get the group the Etching Transcript.

    So please fix above that you get the Etching Transcript

    This information is (no longer) correct. I did this today 31Jan2009. I took my entire group to the statue at the same time, only the lead guy got the transcript.

    Noting the above message that the final part is a "hail" NOT a hand in, I hailed Associate Researcher Maladoks numerous times and all he would do would be to say,
    "Please obtain a copy of the inscription from the [artifact] as soon as possible, and return to me with it."

    key phrase returns:
    "There are many strange and powerful artifacts I have only begun to understand after years of intense study... The most sacred of these is a large sculpture of Prexus with an arcane inscription that I'd like to study."

    I had no choice but to hand in the transcript (which turned out to be the correct thing to do) and upon doing so all people in my group got the update and their OWN copy of the transcript (did not need to have upper inventory open for it, it dropped into bags just as well.) Maladoks said,

    If any one is stuck with 60mana/60end/60hp on their combine please do the following.

    Redo Mission 2, "locating the statues", Then before you zone to do the mission in HAIL "prime researcher" and he will give you a TASK "a city in peril - deliver rubbing of the inspection to head mage antius" then hand it in

    I just did this mission with my Ranger/Shaman. After I killed the 4 guards and the named (getting updates for all) I went to examine the statue. I got the update but no etched transcript on either character.

    I petitioned but I'm not holding my breath.

    Brendanus Riordan has a ton of HP, and lots of DPS. Tried 3 boxing this mission with pal cler wiz and Did Not succeed. I wouldn't reccommend trying to 3 box this one, as for the pet thing, idk about that, i dont have a pet class.

    Bear in mind he does NOT summon. So with sufficient clear room, he could be root-rotted.

    Mage stands on top of the statue room up on the surface and commands pet to attack statues. Mobs come running, following the mage to the kiting area to the SW.

    Necro tags/snares named or statue and kites or feign's death while the wizzy and mage evac to clear agro. Mobs should wander back undeground with the exception of the tagged one. Tag more than one statue at a time depending on your dps.


    Mage and wizzy come back and everyone kills the mob. Don't kite over the water.

    It works better with SOW or SOE but have mage or necro invis and run down to touch the statue. CoH them back before they die. The mobs at the statue will see you and sometimes you will be seen on the way down and followed.


    Note: even a necro pet can be commanded to attck these guys from up on top. We tested it but did not use this method for real.


    The named as stated below, has a whole lot of hp. Be prepared for a long fight.

    The statue and the mobs are all in the underground room that is square and has a circle in it, at least on my map. The cirle is the statue.

    No, the mob can't attack the pet thru the wall as you say, but you've sent the pet to the mob so they're fighting each other down where the mob is. The pet dies and now the pet owner has the agro and the mobs runs off to find him. And he brings his friends too. EQ is nothing but a friendly game.

    Interesting but sounds exploitive. The pet aggros through the ceiling using the Z axis. I doubt the instance is intended to allow this kind of interaction. The mob can't attack the pet through the ceiling; using game geometry to engage a mob which can't respond is an exploit.

    Or does the pet run through the tunnels all the way to the Statue Room? Just acquiring the target through the ceiling wouldn't be exploitive, methinks...

    Use it while you can cuz I suspect this may change with a future patch.

    This is the best mission for raising Combine Merchants faction to allied status the fastest.

    The lockout timer for these missions is 45 minutes. A capable group can easily do this mission in 30 minutes. Not much point in going below that because of lockout.

    There are three challenges to this mission:

    1. Getting to the Statue Room.
    2. Splitting and killing the four Guardians.
    3. Killing the final named, Brendanus Riordan.

    1. The easiest way to get to the Statue Room, without having to clear a single mob en route, is to have a mage and a halfling druid in your group. Kill the mage and have the druid drag his corpse while sneaking to the Statue Room. A nice safe corner in the room is the one immediately to the right when you enter.

    It is usually possible to sneak all the way. The zone spawns with fewer mobs that the regular version of the zone, and their aggro range is tiny. The only SI mobs are the puddles of water and any Kedge mobs. If there is one SI mob guarding a doorway, any player, even without sneaking, can get by it by hugging the opposite side.

    If both sides of a doorway are guarded by two SI mobs, then you will need to be able to sneak to get by. Con them to make sure sneak has "stuck" and then slide along the wall behind them.

    Every mob spawning in the tunnel close to a wall is a static, they don't move. Any mob in the middle of the floor or of a corridor, are wanderers, even if they're not moving at the time you see them. This means if a SI mob is blocking your path in a corridor, or in the middle of a room, just wait a minute or two. Eventually they will path away and you can move forward.

    There is one exception to this rule: if a puddle spawns in the first long tunnel at the tunnel entrance (leading down from the open area), while this one does wander, it only wanders from the tunnel entrance to the bottom so you can't sneak past this mob. The way to get by it is to have someone else in your group tag it, and then run it around and clear aggro by gating, zoning, CoHero or feign it off, depending on their abilities. Then you head on down into the tunnels to do your thing.

    Once the druid sneaks to the camp spot, he rezzes the mage, who CoH's a third toon. Then lay down a campfire and bring in the rest of the forces.

    Note that if you want to avoid killing the mage it's sometimes possible even for a non-sneaking mage to make it to the camp spot in the Statue room safely. This involves having the sneak class (which in this tactic does not need to be a druid or any rezzer class, since the mage isn't sacrificed) lead the way with the mage following, until the two run up against a situation which the mage cannot get past. Then the "sneaker" tags the problem mob, pulls it away and the mage gets past the "roadblock." The mage can get to a safe spot (any wall spot between 2 mobs is safe, the aggro range being so small) and CoH the "sneaker" back to continue the advance.

    I'm sure there are other ways to get to the Statue room. My point is it can be done very quickly without stopping to kill anything, if speed is your desire. My fastest time to get my group TO the room is under 4 minutes.

    2. Once in the Statue Room the challenge is to be able to split the guardians. The key here is to be aware that they tend to come in 2's, 3's or 4's, sometimes even with the named. A capable splitter is required. If you've got a mage and a snarer, you can get them singly by tagging, snaring and then CoHing the snarer to clear aggro. Or you can bring in more than one and rely on your crowd controller, since the guardians are all mezzable.

    You might want to clear a couple of the wandering trash which enter the room and wander around the statue platform, as they will add to fights, sometimes not at a good time. Be warned that the guardians WILL assist them and often add to the pull when fighting trash. The guardians have an usually large assist range, compared to the trash in this instance.

    3. The final fight with the boss is somewhat long. He's got a TON of HPs. With a decent tank, a capable healer and sufficient dps, it's just a case of beating him down. Allow 4-5 minutes for this fight unless you've got a tip-top group. He can be slowed, crippled and snared, he does run and he does not summon. Given the length of the fight it's best NOT to have adds involved, even if they're mezzed so it's best to do the boss last.

    I've already indicated in other posts how to be cautious about getting the Etching Transcript at the end by mounting the platform.

    I started doing this mission at 50 orux. After about 10 missions it dropped to 48 and then varied between 42 and 48, depending I guess on how many people on Saryrn were doing it regularly.

    If you repeat this quest, don't destroy extra Etching Transcripts. That bug where the person who goes onto the platform fails to get the first Transcript happens time and again. And if nobody in your group has a spare Transcript from a previous successful mission completion, your whole group is screwed: no completion, no orux, no faction.

    Best I can figure out is that when you mount the platform you have to stop close to the statue base but not so close that your cursor is effectively "inside" it. If the cursor IS inside, you're not going to receive the initial Transcript.

    I've done this several times now, always conscious of this problem, and I still fail to get a Transcript abou 1 time in 3.

    Bugged for me as well. None of us received the Etching Transcript despite receiving all the quest updates prior to the final turn-in.

    I've /bug'd and /petition'd it, let's see what follows.

    Since it's been over a month since the post below mine, this is disturbing. Has this mission been bugged like this for more than a month without any fix incoming? How the hell does anyone get Solteris-flagged in these circumstances?!

    Did this a second time and here's what happened...

    After killing the 5 mobs we sent the tank up onto the platform and he STAYED THERE. Got the quest update text. Then a few seconds later got some text indicating that he was doing a rubbing of the text and then the Etching Transcript appeared on the tank's cursor.

    Nobody else got the Transcript, neither then nor when the other 5 toons went onto the platform. Now maybe if all 6 had gone onto the platform at the same time, maybe then they'd all get the Transcript. But this wasn't what we did.

    However... we ported out and the tank turned in his Transcript to Maladoks to complete the quest. At that point he gets the Transcript back AND THE REST OF US HAD TRANSCRIPTS APPEAR IN OUR INVENTORY.

    Since everyone needs a copy of this transcript to do the mini-quest to update stats on the ring, this was a good thing.

    GMs sez the following:

    "The task updates as soon as the player steps on the platform but the 'Etching Transcript' is only given when the player examins the statue from all sides. This is intended game design."

    I did do this but there was a delay between getting the update and doing the walkaround. When I got the update, I assumed the item would be in our inventories so the toon that ran onto the platform ran back to the group in the corner to prep to port out. When I saw we didn't have the Transcript I ran back to the platform and then did it with all the other toons too. I'm guessing the way it's coded, if you get the update and leave the platform too quickly, the Etching Transcript isn't generated and the code won't recognize any players returning to the platform.

    Going to try again and will report result.

    Be forewarned though, whatever player mounts the platform and gets the quest update text should NOT leave the platform until the Transcript is in everyone's inventory.

    They have nerfed the ability to sneak and inspect the statue. There are now 4 statue guardians and a named Brendanus? That must be slain for completion. Brendanus has a LOT of hp. None of them too hard tho.

    Also -- my group just got done this task awhile back. We all got the update to 60hp on the ring as expected. This also gives you the mission to turn in the Etching and to speak with Tactician Sodut...... we have done these two and some of us are at 60 while some at 90. boggle.

    - white con to 75, lots of hp.

    Kill 4 statue guardians
    - yellow con to 75,

    Examine the Statue of Prexus
    - 1 person gets the Etching Transcript

    Deliver the transcript to Associate Researcher Maladoks

    Only gave 25 Orum although all members in group were level 75.

    Mission now has an extra step and 4 new mobs. They also added a lot more hps to named. Kill 4 Statue Gaurdains now part of quest they are around the named and will agro named when pulled so bring a puller.

    After this mission, Hail Waymun again if you were not the one to hand in etching. He will give you task to go give etching to High Mage Antius (something like that). This will increase power of ring, and allow you to get missions later. Hail Waymun after each mission is complete for a small task.

    steps:

    1)enter Thalassius the coral keep
    2) Kill 1 Brendanus Riordan
    3) Examine the statue of prexus
    4) Deliver the transcript to Associate researcher Maladoks.

    Thalassius is entered thru the normal portal, when you cross it, you will get a text window asking if you want to enter the instance one or the regular one. You zone into the isle in the middle.

    Brendanus is in the western square room along with the statue.

    1 person can go into the room and "look" at the statue, eveyrone in the group will get the etching transcript in their inventory.



    reward is faction and 29 Orux (at apprehensive)

    we did this one 2 times in a row given our bard was on the first attempt able to pull the named to zone in and the rogue went in and got the viewing done with no clearing, effectively taking maybe 5 minutes to complete the task. The second time, when the person got the task, the task name was in red and not pullable solo as had been done in the first task, there were also more see invis. We assume the red text is an indicator of when you are repeating a task frequently enough for it to get the increased difficulty tweaking that had been mentioned.

    Start in KC. Mission requires you to go to an instanced version of Thallassius, the Coral Keep. The named (sorry, forgot his name) is down in the tunnels. You can invis much of the way with only the "Puddles of Water" seeing invis. The closer you get to him, the more mobs will see invis, but still only had to kill a handful. Named is yellow con, probably 78. Completely owned with 4 demi geared players, Monk tanking. Kill the named and go stand by the statue he was perched near. This will auto give you a parchment to take back to the mission giver. Upon turn in you will receive Faction and 50 Orux. Repeatable.
