Katta Castrum was built to house the sickened leader of the Combine Loyalists, Tsaph Katta. It was once above water and connected to several areas housing Norrath's endangered races, the Shissar, Sphinx, and Kedge. Experiments on the Kedge triggered the wrath of the Ocean Lord, Prexus, who sunk the city into the ocean. While it sunk, the magic of a great artifact was used to protect the city and bring air to it.

Homes were built for the endangered races, but over the years those races began to see the Loyalists as jailors. This is especially true for the Shissar, who broke through to Katta Castrum and began to destroy it. The Loyalists have defended the central part of the city, but fear they may lose it all soon. Not only the Shissar threaten them, but the artifact in their city has begun to weaken, allowing water to seep through their barrier of protection...

See The Buried Sea Guide for a rundown of this expansion's basics.

Question re zoning in and mobs
# Nov 01 2007 at 12:41 AM Rating: Decent
I've seen a few posts that suggest that mobs see invis upon zoning in to Katta, and people have had to gate/evac out.

Is it correct that mobs see invis and you are KoS irrespective of the fact that you may have done no tasks for the blacksails? I thought the faction started out at apprehensive for Katta mobs, or is that apprehensive just for the task givers/vendors? I'm a little confused.

Any help would be appreciated. (Yes this is a newb question, but I am a newb returning to the game!)

I was just there last night. As for staying invisible while zoning I do not know if that is possible. As for seeing through invisible I would say no. The denizens are apprehensive to me and this was my first visit. When running to our camp site we were invisible and ran right passed man mobs undetected

from buried sea, and from the guild hall portal, it is completely safe to zone into katta. same with the zone ins from atiiki, thalassius, and zhisza (unless of course someone trained mobs there)

zoning into Zhisza safely is another thing though.. it's not safe, mobs wander the zone in of zhisza.

the quest NPCs and merchants in katta will NOT be kos. also, doing quests for the pirates will NOT affect your faction with katta (they're on seperate factions and doing the quests only affects their given faction.

however, katta castrum is not just a city zone.. there are also KOS mobs if you go out from the center of the city, and yes these mobs are KOS, but to my experiance i have not run into many see invis, except for the shissars, so watch out for them.

that's just the quest givers/merchants that will con apprehensive. youll need invis to explore the parts of the habitat which have monsters in it.

PoK > Toxulia forest > barren coast (you need to take a ship here to next zone) > the buried sea > katta kastrum

in katta castrum, where you zone in (the center temple) there is a large griffon statue in the middle of the room. behind that statue is the zone out back to the buried sea, if you need to head backwards.

click this link for a Pic of of a zone connection chart for TBS

oh and don't worry about the ticketmasters on the boat docks. you don't need a ticket, all they do is work with group instances to load instanced zones.

Anyone have a clue where Mudpuppy spawns? I read on these boards that it is a 6 min spawn. We killed every 'mud' mob our tracker could find and none of them had a 6 min spawn time, so my guess is that we never found the PH. Any help would be great!

I've been working on a strats site for the katta missions. It has at least a page for each mission, a walk through for progression towards Solteris key, a map for doing the three portal tasks, a guide to using the portals, and loot lists for Solteris raids (no raid strats).

If you have anything to add, or anything you'd like to see, in game email me at prexus.Atlane

Hmmm. For me, the greenhouse was in the North East section in the outermost circle. It's not a simple run there, you have to maneuver your way there as many paths are blocked.

Around 500 years ago, the Combine Empire was born. It grew very large, spanning 4 continents, and though started by good races, it would eventually include dark races as well. The combine formed an anti-conspirator/peace assembly named "The Combine Inquisition". Seru, a devout paladin of Marr, led the Inquisition. Seru Beseeched The Imperator of the Combine Empire, Tsaph Katta to cast out the dark races. Seru took matters into his own hands and began to secretly slay the most powerful dark elves within the combine empire.(1)

In hopes to bring peace to the races Tsaph held a banquet in the Freeport City Hall. This meeting was also going to officially include the dark elves into the combine empire(2). Seru also attended this banquet, during which Seru mortally poisoned Tsaph's drink. Secretly, the Combine created a vast city in which to keep their beloved leader Tsaph in stasis. They built this city in the buried sea, on a large island. This new city was named Katta Castrum, and besides keeping Tsaph safe it also served another purpose. The citizens of Katta Castrum created habitats for many different endangered races of Norrath. The most important of these races were The Kedge, The Sphinx, and The Shissar. But the citizens of Castrum did more than just research the races they also performed some experiments. The Kedge was Prexus' chosen race, which he created, and Prexus was so angered by the experiments that he sank Katta Castrum into the sea. The Combine was so powerful however that it was able to create The Pellarus Satum, a giant magical device that created a dome to protect the city and keep the water out. Katta Castrum now lies buried under the sea, in it's protective dome, which weakens daily. Now, the people of Castrum have opened portals to their city in hopes that brave adventures may help save their city and leader.(3)

getting back to The Buried Sea

Because this seems a mystery to so many.

to get from Katta back to The Buried Sea:

In the main room of Katta that the guild portal ports you into there is a small pyramid that looks like many of the other portal pads used in Katta altho you might not notice this one in the architecture of the room. location is n100, n1, 23. At the top center of this pyramid is a blue stone, run over it and you are ported to The Buried Sea ( loc n400, 3666, 357). From there you run to the docs over the hill ( loc 139, 2830, 329) and take a boat back to Barren Coast. Run Barren Coast to Toxxulia and there is a PoK book there.

if you want to go the other way from PoK to Katta without using the guild portal, its pretty much reversed steps except that to get into The Buried Sea from Barren Coast you need to get a ticket to the Buried sea from one of the dock masters and then to get to Katta from The Buried Sea, you jump into the whirlpool at loc n114, 742, 356 ( the circle in the middle of the center island).

You asked. Far easier to gate imo

Group mission given by Tactician Sodut takes you to "Zhisza, the Shissar Sanctuary".
- Enter the Shissar caves and spy on their activities!
- Observe the ritual in progress!
- Search the golems in the quarry area for evidence that the Shissar are planning something!
- Search the Shissar in the temples for more evidence that the Shissar are planning something!
- Follow the curriers back into the caves and find out who is in charge
- Deliver the Golem Schematic to Tactician Sodut!
- Deliver the Temple Schematic to Tactician Sodut!
- Talk to Tactician Sodut about your experience in Zhisa

Reward: faction with the 'Combine Empire Merchants' and 55 Oryx.

Basically you run around getting waypoint updates and then kill mobs for 2 drops, and finally run around for the final waypoint update.

The Golem Schematic "Schematic: Golem of Power" dropped off the 2nd golem.
The Temple Schematic "Schematic: Pyramid" dropped off the 60th or so shissar trash mob 'a temple patroller' inside the temple itself.

For the final waypoint update (Follow the curriers...), the mobs in the cave are not agroable until you get the update, so DA, train to the named in the back of the cave, and then train to the zone out which is right outside the cave.

This mission took several hours due to the rng on the second schematic. Also the mobs have a large-ish assist range and can do 8k/round, on silk at least.

The zone is mixed see invis and most of the mobs roam, so you can bypass much with a good pop and some patience.

I'd like to add to the previous post to clarify a bit.

The first schematic drops off any golem in the quarry. Take the left path from zone in to reach the quarry.

The second schematic only drops from the red con shissars in the temple. You can kill the yellow cons all you want and won't get the drop.

Also, the shissar deathmakers in the temple proc a single-target FD. Your tank will get hit with this at least once during the fight. It's a full mem blur so the tank will have to overcome all the aggro of the person that was highest on the hate list when the FD hit. It can be a nasty surprise the first time.

Finally, don't bother the spiders, gorillas, and scarabs and they won't bother you. They con indifferent and are social with one another but won't aggro when you fight shissars or golems.

Group mission handed out by Sorcerer Hearah. He is placed in the room in the middle of the zone.

The task:
Enter Thalassius
Loot 10 Glowing Fire Coral
Deliver 10 Glowing Fire Coral to Sorcerer Hearah

Reward Faction or 50 Oryx

The Glowing Fire Coral is looted from plants - not from mobs. They are hard to get to.
From zone in, more a little north, and enter the gate. Follow the tunnels, first east, then south and finally west. You are now at a place where there are 3 "cells" in each side of the tunnel. Each cell holds 2 mobs and 2 Fire Coral plants.
Kill the mobs and /open the plants to loot the Glowing Fire Corals.

All mobs are from dark blue to yellow for a lvl 75.
