This is a "mini-task" that follows the mission 'Knowledge of Power'. It is required in order to upgrade your Combine Signet Ring, and is a required step for the Solteris flag.
It begins with the Prime Researcher. You say, 'Travel there?' Prime Researcher Elnot Waymun says 'Excellent, _____! Speak with Associate Researcher Maladoks when you are prepared. I eagerly await your return.' You have been assigned the task 'A City in Peril - Speak with Researcher Maladoks'. Speak with Researcher Maladoks Associate Researcher Maladoks is found in Katta Castrum at location -58, +108, +7. You say, 'Hail, Associate Researcher Maladoks' Associate Researcher Maladoks says 'Ah, so Prime Researcher Elnot sent you to speak with me about the Kedge? He must want you to seek out one of their artifacts. I think I know the one he is [interested] in.' Your task 'A City in Peril - Speak with Researcher Maladoks' has been updated. what is the loc for pice researcher elnot waymun?
His loc is like FIVE STEPS from Elnot.
The npc you need to hail to get this task is Prime Researcher Elnot Waymun not Maladoks.

Associate Researcher Maladoks sighs woefully, 'This copy of the inscription must be incorrect, I am unable to translate it... perhaps you would [interested] in making another copy for me?

Associate Researcher Maladoks says 'Excellent, please enter Thalassius with great expediency and locate the sculpture of Prexus... when you have found it, copy the inscription and return it to me... be careful, I understand the habitation is not very safe at the moment.'
You receive task window for Locating the Statue.
At this point, combine signet ring showed following stats:
