Yes you can as long as you didn't kill ogres in Timerous Deep you should be fine. If your KOS to those ogres then you will be KOS in OT at the outpost

im wondering if i kill A LOT of bezerkers and collect the braids will i be able to do the quest as a iksar monk? can iksars reach ally with the outpost (or amiable whichever is needed for quest)? i have killed nuff of these sarnaks to max all my factions with other characters but no idea if this is the same case with iksars. o btw.. i killed so many sarnaks that i maxed faction without having to turn 1 braid in with my high elf magician. so again question is can i get the hammer via killing sarnaks + braids?

Possibly...getting to the guards to turn it in would be difficult as well as getting out...it's possible but it would be really hard for any class, monk included.

I agree with it being very hard for any class/race to do this quest but...
Bards may have an easier time at this one. Not only can masks be used such as the easy to get Mask of Deception (DE Form). But we have a faction song that with the instrument raises your faction by atLEAST form. So from "Ready to Attack" to "Threateningly" in a matter of seconds. And with the mask you might have better faction already. I have collected war braids, have the mask, and have the song. Just have yet to try this. GL to anyone who does, not positive it will work.

Very rough estimate, took me about 800 braids to get from max kos to threatening, IE lotta ****** braids. no doubt from threaten to amiable will be a lot less.

How were you able to turn in braids if you were kos to outpost? I'm not trying to be a smart *** btw, I would really like to know.

I see alot of people harassing others about bad grammer and such, give people a damn break, not everyone speaks english as a primary language, I'd hope to hell that if me or you were posting something in a different language that we werent raised speaking that we would be cut some slack too.

Do you get positive OT faction for turning in Jade for the hammer (yes I know you need to have amiable to do the quest) but do you also get a positive faction hit?

I tryed 2 times to charm the hammer guy with my necromancer, (level 60) got resisted twice and FDed it off, didn't try it again I figure hes ither uncharmable or VERY high MR and would need malo to stick a charm.

It took 22 sets of 4 war braids each to raise my faction from apprehensive to amiable (12 to get to indiff, another 10 to get to amiable). Every sarnak berzerker that I killed had a war braid, so that's 88 berserkers.
It wasn't until my faction was in fact amiable that the undead foreman would give me the quest.
The quest gem (a jade) can be bought in a nearby building from a tin merchant - I forget which one.

This is exactly right. 22 sets / 88 braids for my erudite necro to go from apprehensive to amiable.
The 10th set / 40th braid got me to indifferent.
And jade is the gem. (I just got my hammer!)

To all of you monks who think that you can FD/Gate to OT, THE HAMMER PROCS and IS NOT right click! Although when using it the other night I had a weird experience. After killing Naggy, I was waiting for a port out and had to leave immediatly. I pulled out my hammer, asked the pally next to me If I could duel him to use the hammer. He accepted, and I started swingin'. I went LD, kept swinging (apparently) and when I logged back on, I was in OT. Now, here's the weird part. I fell out of the sky for like 250 damage, NOT in the outpost, but near the mudhole. Weird, 'eh?

The mudhole is probably the "safe" point in the zone, and that's probably the reason it ported ytou there, because you were LD when you ported and LD when yuo zoned in.

That is weird, and a little funny. You are right though, it says in the quest info that you have be in a fight and that it has to "proc"!

I don't know if the FD trick will work but this might. Go hunting for the berzerkers with a friend that already has good OT faction. Let him collect all the braids. Make sure you are grouped with him and when he turns them in you will get group exp for your friend turning them in. I don't know if you will get faction or not but it might be worth a try. Good luck.
to receive quest faction you have to do the quest, amazingly enough.
A Level 60 Assasin had me try this for him the other night as he had been hunting in KC and had ruined his outpost faction. When I handed in the braids while grouped with him, he got no faction change - and he was sneak/hiding right next to me so distance wasn't a factor. I guess when the faction is gone - it's gone...

It would be an expensive proposition, but could one just keep giving this guy jade and get enough faction to do the quest - don't care about the hammer myself right now, but having the faction is always nice.
He'll just keep the jade if you don't have enough faction, and mutter that he won't aid people like you. No faction increases... so you'll either be able to get the hammer or nothing at all.

of course you can't do the braid quest if you are kos =P
hehe well, the only way i can think of to raise VS faction is to kill dragons in veeshan's peak or some in western wastes=P

Do the war braid quest in the outpost. they drop off berzerkers in the OT and are NO DROP, hand 4 in at a time to the commander guy ( skele by the bank who is giving orders to other skele's). It will raise your VS faction

When I arrived at OT I was KOS as elf and dubious as dark elf (mask of deception). Been doing the protect the shipyard quest until i reached amiable in DE form and got the hammer. However it seems that in my natural wood elven form I'm still KOS. Although faction raised already twice. Is there any hope this will change by doing more quests?

Can an iksar ever get to amiable with the outpost? As an iksar monk this would be handy, could use it and FD, get away from the outpost and be on my way. Too bad you have to be amiable though.
EDIT: My friend has an all all necklace that casts alliance. Could I use it and sneak behind this guy or FD, sneak, stand up, turn in Jade? Basically, will alliance bring faction from indiff to amiable?

The chanter spell alliance should raise from indiff to amiable. That would be about the max you could raise whth that spell. Collaboration should raise from dubious to amiable. Any effect on an item should yeild same result as it's spell.
Not sure about the necklace with right clickable alliance, but I do know that when my bard sneaks his faction song no longer applies (to those mobs he's sneaking behind at least). The dwarves in the crystal caverns, for example, are dubious by default. Faction song brings them to amiable. Sneak sets them back at indifferent, with or without the song.
So, given that, I would guess alliance will not get your faction to amiable with sneak.

Come on, when you sneak you are in otherwords invisible so of course the faction will not increaase, but will always lower or rais your faction to Indif.

Finally got my faction to amiable and did the quest today. Its ONE jade. Thats all you need. Payed 9pp for one at the merchants in the outpost with troll charisma. Getting your faction to amiable is 98% of the battle.

Give him 2 jades unstacked, must be amiable though... Foreman don't tell you anything when you say 'I'm a new worker', or such, just give him the gems, and get the hammer. Jades are sold in the building nearby, about 9pp with troll charisma per each.

It is a proc, like the effect on a ykeasha, it will go off randomly during the battle. Get it, fight greens until you go poof.

You might want to look at the item a little closer. In the description it says the effect is Procced, therefore it randomly uses the effect in battle. Its not 1 charge, its not only 1 use, its as much as you want. Just equip it and smack away untill it goes off.

Well I just got this Hammer and in the desrciption it does not list amount of charges, just "effect:Overthere"
I have used it twice and it procced both times so the info about it being 1 charge is false. If I had to guess, its unlimited charges.

You get the hammer, trash your faction, use the hammer... if you don't get KOS, the hammer won't work again anyway, and you'll need to get another hammer...but you can't because you're KOS!

This is a NODROP Hammer. It is also a "Giant" sized item and will not fit in most containers besides a Bag of the Tinkerers or some trade skill containers (Large Sewing Kit for one).
What does this mean to you? LOTS. If you are one of those lazy "Right-Click" Looters, you ARE going to LOSE this hammer. If you right-click it when all your slots are full and you don't have a Giant sized container with an empty slot, this item will go into your inventory, the game sees that you have no slots available, and the item falls to the ground.
We all know what happens when NODROP items touch the ground don't we? Yes, they get DELETED! And you know what? GM's DON'T reimburse for DROPPED ITEMS. You ask "How can I drop a NODROP item?" Well, "NODROP" doesn't means its not capable of being dropped. It just means that you cannot VOLUNTARILY drop or give it away to another player, just an NPC.
So, if you have this Hammer, DO NOT RIGHT-CLICK LOOT IT! If you lose it by doing this, you WON'T get reimbursed. The GM's will investigate the item logs, see that it fell to the ground and was deleted and tell you "Sorry, no reimbursals for dropped items. Go quest for another one. What? Your faction is now ruined in Overthere? Sorry, but that was your own choice."
Take it from someone with personal experience.

not 100% true.. if you have no spaces in your Inventry items will appear on your cursor (like when you dont right click to lewt). they even reamain on your cursor when you zone..
i did a trade with someone, on the last item i ran out od spaces an the item was places on my cursor.. about 1.2 seconds later i was ported to some other place (shiat i thought) but it was fine. zoned over with the item still being held

Actually at the time he wrote that post, it WAS true...not so anymore. That was changed in a patch. Take a look at when he wrote that..in 2001...before the patch. You do have to have a giant sized container to place it in though, or drop a bag to put it in a slot while you buy one. (sewing kits are available from the gnome clockwork merchants.)

As an agnostic human monk, you are not kos to the evil outpost, and can sucessfully raise faction via the sarnak war braid quest and then do this quest, haha all those casters are asking for a gate to kunark while i can gate there myself with this =P.
