I just did this with my beastlord.I shrouded down to a lvl 5 garg wiz.I got like 3 clarity pots and had my druid DS me. I went to FoB to the spider cave.so I began slaughtering them. the spiders spawn every 10 seconds it seems so it was perfect spot to lvl up. killed here for bout 45min until i unlocked the evileye. got evil eye cast charm on him, charm landed first time handed in jade recieved hammer then gated bck to PoK b4 charm broke. Then i did it on 71 bard his charm wouldnt land for some reason so i resist debuffed em charmed handed in jade and thronded out b4 charm broke.. just lettin ya kno charm trick still works since last post was a year ago
I recently came back to EQ after a two year long hiatus, (75 SK, mostly anguish gear) and i did the OT hammer quest before with the braids. After that I killed those golems when i was bored, eventually i got maxx KoS and couldnt run by without being attacked.
One day smithing i had a lot of different hammers because i was tinkering as well, well i destroyed the OT hammer by accident, but later i decided to quit so never bothered getting it again.
Well when i came back i decided i wanted it again, so started looking for ways to gain faction, mainly because i didnt want to do the whole charm thing, its a clever way of doing it, but i hate playing shrouds.
So i got bored reading here on alla's and started exploring a bit. I had read that a lot of zones that needed keys were now open, so i went to VP as i had never been in there before, just to see if i could kill a few dragons, just out of boredom. After a couple I looked at the faction hits, I was getting good faction for VS. So i figured wth, might as well stay awhile and see if it was good enough to get the faction i needed. Later a friend of mine sent me a tell asking if i wanted to do anything and I suggested she come get faction for an OT hammer, just for the sake of having it, (she was an 80 cleric)She decided to get faction for her hubby's pally and we went thru about 40 or so mobs, 1 named, most didnt hit very hard, 250ish - 400, took about an hour, by then i read in faction that my faction with VS could not possibly get any better.
We gated out and ran back to OT and sure i enough i was maxx ally (gnome sk, her hubby was warmly (human pally), and she was indifferent (high elf cleric), so me and the pally both got the hammer after turn in.
This is what i think is a good alternative to the braids and shrouds, i did the braids before and it took me days to collect enough, it was worth it when i was lvl 60, but if your high enough to solo or group in VP i'd definately do that if you dont like level'ing shrouds or gathering braids like me :D
I just did this quest about a week ago after leveling my wizard shroud to unlock evil eye. As a level 70 EE chanty, the charm landed on the first try.
A word of advice, if you are KOS in OT, you got about 15 seconds from when the charm lands on the npc until the goons get all over you. You can safely skip the dialogs and just hand in a jade to get the hammer. Then run really fast
Charmed the foreman at lv55 on bard alt. Twisted Occlusion of sound + charm until it landed (mebbe 5 casts). Had Selo's on for runspeed safety. Much easier than wasting puppet strings for non-charm class :)
I heard if your shrouded as an evil eye you can turn in the gem I'm current working on it but you might want to try it as a 50TH lvl evil eye or you might die. I tried as a 35 evil eye and was killed easy. Good luck and this beats killing 90 million berskers.
I submitted this information via the "Click Here to report a correction" link a couple days ago, but in the mean time, I figured I could post this here, too.
My wife and I killed him a couple days ago just for the fun of it, and he dropped a leather whip and about 7pp in cash and gave no faction hits, despite his affiliation with Venril Sathir.

i am a level 70 monk and just did this quest.. i bought puppet strings and charmed him.. quickly gave him a Jade before charm broke and he gave the Jade back .. wouldnt take it.. so i am wondering if this quest still works using the puppet strings.. i did everything according to the way others have done it and it just didnt work
I did this on the 10th, which was only one day before you tried it, and it worked fine once I was able to land the charm. Since there was no patch between our attempts, I don't see why it wouldn't have worked.
Are you sure the charm stuck? He's VERY magic resistant. Assuming you're KOS to him (and if you aren't, using Puppet Strings wasn't really necessary as you could just improve the faction with sarnak war braids), you shouldn't even have been able to initiate a trade with him at all...

I just got this and tested it. The spot it teleports you is safe(as far as I can tell). I am an agnostic erudite who is "threatening" in there and the skeleton on the boat you port to was indifferent to me.
As of today, charming him no longer works for the turn in. I charmed him with Enslave Death, ranger friend tried the turn in..."Bah!! I will not work with one who has yet to prove his allegiance to Venril Sathir" was what he got.
I am a 53 necro and I used cojole undead to charm him and get my sledgehammer. Took about 5 trys but it worked long enough for me to get the hammer and FD.
The hammer to proc so it probably isn't good for a emergency situation. But to do some banking and stuff it is great.
The port in location doesn't seem very unsafe if you just put up invis vs. undead once you get there.
Yeah just throwing out necro can charm this guy too, just charmed him and did turn in. He resisted thrall of bones, but the higher level only 30 second necro charm worked fine. yay for charm turn ins
I think you missed the point of his post. You need both items not just the illusion. Illusion is just to sneak you in the door. The other item is to make him cough up the goods.
I did this a few minutes ago with a 65 chanter that is VERY kos in the outpost after multiple VSR and VS kills. The foreman is very magic resistant but tash took care of that nicely. Used my best slow on him to make him hit less then used CoD to charm him. Gave him a jade and received the hammer.
However, a SK with me that was NOT kos but did not have good faction either did not receive the hammer when giving the jade. It seems the foreman may need amiable faction to give the hammer but I don't know the minimum faction is to get it. I know apprehensive is not good enough faction though.
We tried several variations of sneaking, illusions, and invis to get him to give the hammer without success. Only person to actually get the hammer was the chanter that was kos but had charm.
What do I have to do to get better faction with this foreman? I'm curently apprehensive to it.

You have to turn in sarnak beserker braids to Captain Rottgrime. This is the only way to raise your Venril Sathir faction, which is the faction that all the dudes who hang out there are on. You need to turn in 4 braids at a time, but I always turn them in one at a time cause sometimes peeps have already turned in two or three so you can MQ it by accident/purpose if your lucky. Oh and as a DE I went from apprehensive to amiable with approx. 15-20 sets, so it does take some time to track all those beserkers down. Hope that helps.
Do we receive any experience from giving this creature the jade? or do we just receive the weapon?

Jawnimus, you need either amiable faction or chanter/bard help you out with faction boost. either you are human or iksar are KOS in outpost I think so u can't do the berzerker braid quest.
im a lvl 30 Monk need a port item could i buy a jade sneak up behind and hand him the jade??? seems good in theory but would it work PLz help b4 i do something stupid:P
I really appreciated this section for helping me in this quest. I used to hunt inside KC all the time. Can;t tell you how many Skellys i killed but it was tons!! Anyway, being a troll Warrior i still had a trashed dubious faction in OT. I estimated handing in about 35 sets(140 braids!) just to get from Dubious to apprehensive. I am guessing i am half way to indifferent right now so another 20 sets or so and i should be done. Getting to Apprehensive was the real hard part for me
Where does this mallet port u to? would a human enchanter whos faction is completly ruined with VS port to OT with this safely? will the proc port me to a safe spot?
No, it's not technicly safe. The single skeleton worker that aggros is quite green and a fairly small problem. If you don't want to just kill him, you can easily root him, run off the boat without aggroing anything else, invis yourself and run out. It really poses no threat if you're high enough level to charm the foreman and get your hammer. Most likely if you have been told it's a major issue and not worth it, the characters who told you as much are pretty low level.

Ports to a boat on the shore of the OT. No, you can not port in safely. No, the port spot is not safe. There is a skeleton there that hits for 58 or so.
It says it wont fit in all of the containers I was carrying. Is there any containers it will fit in? I tried EE Bag, Tailered back pack and storebought backpack?
Yes. I am an Iksar (ie, very KoS) necro and I have done this quest with enslave death. You only require amiable faction to do the quest and pets are amiable to you.

#Anonymous,
Posted:Sep 22 2001 at 8:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) can a lvl 22 human mage do this quest without gettin killed by guards or other npcs?
Ever sat in Sebilis or another dungeon that getting out of was near impossible for an hour until a druid/wiz gave you a port for 50+pp.. This fixes that...
Go to quest section and look up the hammer. It will tell you all you need to know. only 2 clicks away... in fact, there is a link by the picture of this guy under Quests. click on that
I was wondering if someone could confirm the level of this MoB. My faction with VS is broken beyond repair from too much hunting in karnor's, but i was wondering if this NPC was low enough lvl to be charmed.
Anyone that's tried this, i would really like to know how it turned out.
If you're Venril Sathir faction is toasted, why the heck do you want to have the hammer that ports you in the middle of three undead skeletons? You'll aggro half the outpost, and not knowing how to get out of that boat fast will mean sure death. I once had a friend that took 20 minutes trying to figure out how to get out of the boat after his hammer gated him here. It was pretty funny.
Not sure if Cajole can do it. But I did it today with Thrall and about 120 cha. Took 3 tries. Stand at max range, charm, and FD if it fails. Wait till he goes back to his spawn, stand up, rinse, repeat. Piece of cake and very nice now that there's a PoK book in OT. :)
You've had very bad luck. You might not be able to do it at all without help until level 60 and enslave death. That's when I got mine. It will be a huge chore until then.

The proc is gate I believe. Why in hell you would want to gate will fighting is beyond me. Supposedly you could whip this baby out when in a known lost battle and pray it procs. From what I've heard it is a rare proc as it is. Stats I dunno.
the weapon sux from what i've heard, but you could keep weapon in bank and bind at your nearest bank. After fighting, just gate back to bank (conventional way), do your shopping, whip out the mallet, go whack a few greens, and proc gate. Now your back in the overthere, put mallet back in bank and go do your hunting. rinse and repeat whenever you need to go back to your homeland.
The mallet gates you to Overthere, so when you're killing and need to bank, bind yourself and whip this thing out and gate to Overthere and do some banking. That is, if you're an evil race.
this is a great wepon for tanks of all races that get some faction done. dont know how many times my friends are left in a zone and shouting for a port cause they dont want to make a 30 min run. if u done the faction needed for this mallet there is np with being kos anymore and your melee just have to go beat on a low lvl mob for a min and boom they are 30sec away from pok
I am surpised so many seem to be uninformed about why this mallet is cool..
#1 You wanna go fight in Kunark and you are a darkie..BUT you are in Everfrost..rahter than getting ported into DL or riding the damn boat..just whip out the ol hammer and beat on stuff till it procs and BOOM you are in OT in the middle of Fort Danak
#2 You are in OT (melee type) and you want to go back to Antonica BUT no is porting..BUT a DE wizard freind who is in MM can come get you
This baby is useful for everyone and is AMAZINGLY useful for a DE Wizard.
HOWEVER it doesnt proc till like lvl 51..but if you are a darkie, get one and keep it in the bank till then
