I was just wandering if these guys fall under the class of animal. Basically trying to find out if they can be feared with the spell Panic Animal. This sounds like a great place for a ranger to solo if it works
When fighting wyverns, sometimes they will disappear. They are not gating, its a bug where if the arent killed within X amount of time they will disappear in front of you and reappear back at their spawn point. It seems to me that if you keep them rooted they wont do this, but if they are wandering about while a DoT is just about to kill them they will do this. They have right about 3000 hps. I pull with darkness, root them on the beach or on the cliff face, and hit them with Ignite Blood. If I am low on health I use Bond of Death to finish them, if not I use Asystole (approx same damage). Other wyverns will join in if you pull too close to them. These are very good xp and they are for the most part well spread out, coin loot is negligible but they do drop gems, some of which are for Velious armour quests and sell for quite a bit. Alot of times druids quad kite these, and this makes me very angry. There arent enough of these to go around anyway, and with 1 and sometimes 2 druids doing this it leave none for everybody else. There are too many druids. I dont like them. I hope they all die. :)
consider this verants anti-kite code, if you get too far away from a mob they will forget about you, unfortunately if they are in run mode and you get too far away they get to extremely quickly get back to wherever they want to 'run' to and begin massive massive regen.
solution: be close to your mob(s) for that final blow they won't be allowed to go anywhere then.
(this is so annoying on bloodgills, cause i hate swimming for them)
They do seem to bug back to their bind points, but I haven't seen them dissapear in front of my eyes just yet - usually when I sit down to remem a smaller nuke to finish the last one off (of four ;) ).
Wyverns do indeed depop very quickly. When it happens, just run to the place where you pulled it and finish it with a DD. You have to be fast, 'cause they are regening very quicly.
There seem to be some pathing problems in this zone which I found out (along with help from a veteran necro in the zone, Ouroborus). I was killing one and had it down to where one more nuke would kill it when it disappeared. I thought it might have gated, but I was assured that they did not cast (this was only the 2nd one I'd ever killed). I was told to check it's spawn location and there it was, just sitting there. I went and gave it the last nuke that would've killed it had it been on time but it wasn't enough, and I was oom. Amazingly the wyvern didn't bother moving (my snare had worn off after it returned to it's spawn location), and I was able to sit there and hit it with low level nukes for the next minute or so until it finally went down.
Figured I'd pass along the information to anyone who might want to hunt here... (great solo exp for a level 47 wizard, half a blue bubble for each kill)
Yeah I just logged off from CS, today, being my first time ever there. I took a wyvern down to a slither and then all of a sudden *poof* its gone. I used shifting sight (spell that enables me to see through its eyes) to find out where he was and wella, he was back to his bind point. This has similarly happened with Frost Giants in GD and Iceclad - but they were the non wandering giants, like ones by the fort or by the dragon bridge.
I am a 47 wizz and the wyverns give me about a third xp woot. I cannot wait to start quad kiting them at 51, when we wizzies finally get the upgraded spell to circle of force (lvl34).
I'm sure all the people you're stealing stuff from enjoys your quad kiting too. Read the posts below Cobalt Scar on all the quad kiting stuff, and read the rules of the game, quad kiting is against Verant policy, it steals kills from others, and it gets others killed because of agro rules (and dont tell me it doesnt cause you're full of $hit if you say that).
Whatever my good friend Alussus (AB server) hits before you do he owns...If he hits your sorry *** he owns it... I am a high lvl chanter and If you want to interrupt his quads you try to pocket them then tell me before you do because I love comecy and I'll watch him gate straight outa your own very public version of hell and see your jealous *** run and burn.
If you root one of my mobs while quading expect to take on the rest and test you own quad skills, I always have cheetah memed and gate ready You will die before me. LOL
I agree with your post, as a wizard I could easily quad as well but I choose not to because it's both greedy and dangerous to others. When I see a druid in CS that is quadding, I simply run up and root half the train until they either leave or single pull.
Quadders tend to be greedy rude people with no consideration for other players.
Quad-kiting is not against Verant policy. Take it from a former Guide. TRAINING is against policy. Quad'ing and training CAN be mutually exclusive.
Guess what? Rooting a mob that someone is already engaged in battle with IS against policy. Also, causing a quading Druid to die IS against policy on regular servers. It's called PVP switch avoidance.
Let me once again stress the importance of critical thinking skills. Keep it in mind when you go to college, and add it to your Freshman course list. Many of you are in desperate need.
Quadding is not rude unless u pull anothers mob. It is simply mana effcient and if you do, as you say, interrupt druids or any other class attempting to quad when they have already taken the mob then you are both guilty of ignorance and consider yourself above others in that you try to enforce your opinion on them. You are not of the highest level so thankfully you should be put in your place by someone who has not "probably" been assisted to get to your level. You appear quite immature in your posting.
Still trying to work out if that post is supposed to be ironic or not.... You have no respect for greedy players with no respect for others, so, because YOU arent getting as many kills as you'd like you spoil someone elses pull, splitting a quad, and forcing them to zone because as any quadder will tell you if the mobs arent together you will go oom and then will zone, or will die.
Funnier still is that what you are doing IS against verant rules (if its being quadded it has been engaged and you are purposefully going out of your own way to engage a monster you know fine well is engaged, and to spoil someone elses fun)
Still, one of the more amusing posts, and I am STILL trying to figure out if you are a) Being Ironic b) Being Moronic
This is a common pathing problem primarily in Velious (though I think I've heard of it occuring in the old world as well.)
Many theories exist amongst players as to why this occurs, but the bottom line is that sometimes the MOBs will warp back to their spawn point. Sometimes they will just jump part way back (Kodiaks in GD as an example.)
Basically it is a coding problem and as far as I can tell Verant has remained mute on the subject. I guess this is another 'feature' we'll have to live with.
I'm a 48th level wizzie and these give about a third of a bubble each.
(I know I'm replying to a post that's a year & a half old, but other people read this, too :P)
I think this 'feature' is intentional, it's an attempt at reducing distance-kiting, almost forcing a melee engagement... it only happens with static spawns, though, as random spawns (read: wandering mobs) don't really have any set spawn points.
Started noticing it when charm-kiting the Ogre Mercenaries in EW, the last one would always pop back in the Prison area, though the others wouldn't because they weren't running at low health (due to being social).
No, they cant be diff level server to server ... that would take way to much different coding and stuff to make them different... Just know that they are within the level 40 area.. some are high and some are low..
approx 3k hp (rounding off the numbers) 610(starfire)+1300(winged death)+920(breath of ro)=2830dmg. add a few hundred for root. These have 3khp + or - a hundred or so depending on level.
I have explored the area around the dragon portal and am not sure of a good spot to pull the wyverns without aggroing a drake. Anybody have any suggestions that has done this before?
Just to let you know it seems like the wyverns only drop gems for leg and arm pieces for the quests that is legs and sleeves for melee, casters, and CLR/DRU/SHM.
This little baddies are great exp soloing for players in high 40's to low 50's. Added bonus have looted quest gems from them. Have received two jaundice gems and chipped onyx sapphires.
I am curious about the faction. I recently got up to dubious in Skyshrine by hammering the Frost Giants. I did some minor quests (crystal spider legs, the skyshrine key 3x) for a bit of a buffer. Sentry Kale would always talk to me and give me the spider leg quest.
I went to Cobalt Scar and killed 2 wyvern. Very good xp and an easy beast to root. When I returned to Skyshrine and hailed Sentry Kale, I got the "blathering fool" response, i.e. no quest. I'm curious if my hunting lowered me or was Kale bugged? I still con Sentry Kale as dubious.
Faction being so important in Velious I hope we see it completed in the beastiary info. It is tremendously helpful.

From what I understand Kale gives out 2 or 3 different quests. I am amble to get the spider legs quest at dubious as well, but there are times when he won't speak to me. Each time someone kills him and he comes back, he has the chance to come back with one of the three quests active. I'm guessing that at least one of his quests requires higher than dubious faction, since I did nothing to lower my faction and he has given me the response you got on several occassions.
I believe the prior poster is correct, as this happened to me also at dubious. Some quests require higher faction, and the NPC will neither give out nor accept items for the quest unless you are of appropriate faction level.

Not that I don't believe you, but I have lived and breathed Cobalt Scar for the past 2 levels and have kill hundreds (at least according to my log) of wyverns and have never seen this drop. If you could send a picture into Allakhazam's that would be great.
lol u peeps are funny .. ive been hunting in BW 4 4 lvls killing Fgiants like crazy and while doing that time 1 i said (1) forrest loop dropped, and i most have killed like 100-300 of em if not more.

No, they couldn't. 2 reasons: 1. casting time. Warriors have 0 channelling skill. Any hit interrupts them.
2. Such an item doesn't exist and never will. To put it in perspective... Aradune once said that if a melee usable item with infinite gate charges were available, it would be an ultra-rare drop from the toughest mob in the toughest zone in the game. In short, it's a fake.

i've been killing these dudes and have recieved a few drops and was wondering if anyone knows what there for... ice wyvern stinger (no drop) ice wyvern hide or pelt (magic)
It's expensive, but more importantly time consuming.
At skill 134-135 it took me 18 attempts to make a guildmate a studded arctic wyvern mask. That means I burned through 3 stacks of small pieces of velium. It took several days of hunting orc miners just to collect that much....the 1k I spent on tempers is pretty unimportant in comparison.
The helm takes three times as many pieces of velium and tempers, since it requires three studs instead of one, but it's a very nice item--AC 9 wis+10 sv cold+5. Something that I as a druid can only drool over. (See http://www.eqtraders.com/secrets/recipes_velious_leathers.htm for complete stats.)
Anyway, once you put in the insane effort and resources to become a very, very high end tailor, this won't be quite so expensive or time consuming...pieces should start taking 2 to 5 attempts per success instead of 10 to 20.
On an unrelated note, save that wyvern meat! Apparently pickled wyvern on the test server gives a temporary boost of sv magic+3. We'll see if it goes live...

the wyverns are on the same faction as dragons(claws of veeshen) but they have no faction linked to them so kill kill kill. and you can also find out how the dragons feel about you just by conning the wyverns. oh ya they hit in the 110+ range
they drop a few pp and either a flawed/crushed/distorted gem of some type used for the armor quests in thurgadin and teeth which are non-lore and no drop, not sure what they are for yet and wyvern hide.
I am a 54th Mage on Test Server i went there just to get my Key while i was there i conned many of them becauase i need Nephrite.. and they ALL Conned green all that i could see from SS zone and the Dragon Portal
Yes, at 43rd level, all the ones I've seen have been blue to me. So I'd agree with 42 being the max level on them. They hit too hard to be only 38th in my opinion, perhaps they are 40-42 or thereabouts.
Last night hunted them for about an hour with a small group. At 53 about half of them were green and gave me no exp. The exp seemed good on the ones that were blue, though.
I am not sure about this, only taking a stab, but since all of you guys are saying different things about their lvl range, is it possible that creatures levels, vary from server to server?
