After spending 3 solid days in Skyfire Mountains, I only saw this mob once. I believe him to be a rare PH spawn of the guardian wurms in the zone. Just like nearly all the common mobs, they each have a named/rare mob. So why not guardian wurms too.
also drops

i've spent many hours hunting Eldrig the Old for myself and other bards, and many more hours searching for shards for the cleric epic. I finally saw this guy tonight. i initially found him up by VP entrance, however he paths all the way down to the Ancient Wurm spawn point (south east corner).

Hits about the same as a Guardian Wurm - the weaker variety - and has lots of hit points. he dropped a fire emerald for us. 60 shaman, 60 sk, 65 bard.

Just FYI, this mob does summon as I found out after trying to kite it with my 56 druid. He can be snared and rooted - as can the Guardians. Doesn't hit that hard - avg around 150 I think.

Hubby and I have been to Skyfire multiple times trying to find this guy, and finally got lucky the other night.

As previously posted, they spawn at the entrance to Veeshan's after all of the elders have been cleared a few times. Dry Sapara was up but was indifferent and we had no problems getting single pulls. We camped on the side of the hill above the entrance to the right, and wanders didn't come near enough to worry about.

They were a tough fight for a 63 druid and beastlord, a 67 beastlord and a 56 druid. They have a lot of HPs, hit pretty hard (when you're self-buffed anyway) and do enrage. Killed him but had to med afterward. They dropped spells every time.

Still running amok

Just ran into him and droped him to 19% before my cleric went oom. Was fun to try and it just happened about 30 min ago. So for those who aren't sure if they still exist, they do. I found this one by the BW zone. He spawned in the rocks by the mouth of the valley to BW.
Didnt realize he was 60

I was duoing my 62monk and 55 shaman trying to collect fragments for my cleric I had camped where we were fighting near the BW zone.. monk pulling 2 and 3 to the shaman to dispose of.

I saw a range of wandering, old, Faerie, etc that we dispatched of fairly easily, then this guy comes walking by... blue con to my monk... I pull him back to the wall and go to target him for slow and he is red to my shammy... heh.

Slow stuck first try... monk beat on him for a good bit then tossed a dot. Monk beat some more. Recast the dot... healed the monk some... etc etc.... it was a LONG fight but finished with both shaman and monk at 75% health and 40% mana on shaman with c3.

Was bloody fun. I do not remember what he dropped, it was great fight though. I hope to do it again.

Ok, thanks for the response. /comfort for your death. What area of the zone were you in at the time. I've seen one near the OT zone and one near the BW zone, just not in the last year. There are quite a few different thoughts as to how to trigger them or if they are just random rare spawns.. anyone know the facts and not just basing on coincidence?
exist

I pulled him today, by mistake and had my corpse handed to me as I was not prepared for a summoning mob. they do survive in the zone still..

I've been hunting around in Skyfire helping friends with their Pearlescent Fragments and spells and such. I have not seen this critter in at least a year. I'm interested to know if it still exists.

with my 65 necro tonight, wasn't able to take him down. Summons and is immune to fear. Pulled with Embracing Darkness because was in the middle of the graveyard. As long as I didn't get too far in front, he didn't summon. Once safely off to the side, I put pet on him. Resisted Funeral Pyre the two times i tried it, but didn't resist lifetap or poison based dots. As long as I was able to keep lifetap on him, was fine, would get summoned, hit a couple times, then get out of range for hits, stayed far enough ahead that he couldn't hit me, but not far enough to get summoned. Problem came when Blood of Thule really kicked in, after that, was summoned no matter how close i was. Was able to FD, pet took agro, but i couldn't stand and get pet heal off fast enough to keep pet alive. I managed to get another set of dots on Ancient, but it wasn't quite enough. Fight ended with me FD at 12% and Ancient at 18% when dots wore off. I know he can be soloed, its just a matter of getting the sequence down.

55 Beastlord and 58 Druid (Me) took him down a while ago. Both of us had HoV and KEI, she had fully buffed pet. I pulled to OT tunnel where she started beating it up. I was healing constantly and was oom when it began running :)

All in all a feverish fight, and the bastage only dropped a emerald ring. Gonna bring friend's cleric bro next time. Hope this shows that one tank and one healer are enough under the right conditions.

- Enrages at about 10% health, then flees.

Spawn Point?
# Dec 09 2002 at 9:53 AM Rating: Excellent
I saw one tonight roaming the area around the wizard portal. I am not sure where it spawned but it never left that general area.

If I didn't know better, I would say it spawned as part of the named cycle. Lately there have been two named up at once, and once this guy showed up, I never saw more then one named at a time. Don't take this as gospel, it is just speculation on my part.

Taken from the old show EQ program. Never actually used it myself but found a site with all mob spawn locations in the game. Only up to Kunark though :( Hope this helps.
Not all that hard to kill.

I was able to kill these with me and my Beastlord friend both level 57. We each had our pets and ourselves fully buffed. Slowed and weakened him with Shaman then let the pets go at him while casting Bane with Shaman. Lost the Shaman pet, but made sure that the Beastlord pet stayed alive. It would have been easier if we both had full mana, only had half when we spotted it. Our main key to defeating it was the Beastlord pet that could be healed easily and did a fair amount of damage.

Ok, I decided to give these guys another go, especially when a friend of mine had 3 unsuspecting guildmates to help me. I had /ooc for a Ancient Wyvern group ( hereby referred to as AW's ), and got a cleric, necro, warrior, and druid to join me ( shaman ). I figured this was about as good as it would get as I had 5 people very willing to try something new and all of us ( except the warrior ) could use almost any drop these guys might lay down. Anyway to make a really long story short, we spent almost 3 hours there and never saw a one. No one else was camping them but I finally figured out after everyone left except for a wizard we grouped with near the end how these guys work.
1. AW's do not come up on track ever in Skyfire UNLESS all ( or atleast a few ) of the elder wyverns ( their PH's ) are killed. AW's and Guardian wurms spawn at Veeshans Peak entry NOT at the Ragefire point and NOT anywhere else, AFAIK.
2. Veeshans Peak is a very busy area to pull from, and we got aggroed by every mob in the zone practically at one point or another trying to get there. All high level stuff too, though no named, but elder wyverns, old wurms, bottomless devourers, mature wyverns and wurms, etc. This zone is kinda opposite how the OT is set up, as there easy mobs are in the south and harder to the north. At the NE corner of the zone we pulled nothing that was lower than level 48 for over and hour, except for a single skycinder drake.
3. Anyway, getting back to elder wyverns , they arent too hard, provided they are slowed ( didnt try to fear them as necro had left by the time we figured out where AW's spawn ). A 56 shaman with a JBB and the earring of purity helps alot against them to clean off that poison DoT they lay on ya from time to time. With a 56 wizard they go down quick. Just keep root loaded so wizard doesnt get creamed when root breaks after an Ice Comet or the like :).
So, after everyone had left the group for various reasons, me and the wizard were willing to try to kill a AW just the 2 of us once we realized how to spawn them. I pulled an elder wyvern standing next to a red con guardian wurm, and only the EW came. This was working well till several adds of mostly sperm-type creatures ( ie bottomless feasters, devourers ) decided to add a little excitemnet to the day. We had to gate out to avoid death as they pathed thru the area we wanted to pull to too often for us to med/heal up.
So you may be asking yourself " Aggrok, WTF does this have to do with AW's ?" My answer would be to kill them you first need to find them, and Ive been told be SEVERAL people a level 52-57 group of 4-6 can kill these easy, but GW's ( Guardian Wurms ) drop the harder to find spells much more often, but u need a full group of 6 level 58+ to do those successfully.
Go to Veeshans Peak with the following : 1 shaman level 55+/chanter 55+ for slowing ( AW's can be slowed, but not feared ), maybe a 58+ mage for good pets and casting malosini debuff so that slow sticks, a good tank ( level 55+ reccomended ), a tracker level 50+ ( ranger is better because Ive heard their tracking has a longer effective range and SF is a fairly large zone ), a cleric level 49+ for rezzes if the worst happens, and a necro as they can feed mana to other casters to decrese downtime and their dots are really good. I'd try to stick to one tank as then he should have aggro ( and the summons that come with it ), and then the AW wont ping-pong between casters wipeing ouy your little party.
Buffs I would have us are Talisman of Shadoo ( shammy group +45 PR buff ), DMF ( +70 PR buff ) and any +PR gear u can get. I had 185 PR and I have crappy gear like no BD gear, and mostly JB stuff with a few mixmatched pieces here and there.
Only tips I can offer is that if your puller engages a mob that debuffs ( chromodracs, mature chromodracs, Faerie of Dismay, Felia Goldenwing and Eldrig the Old ) to FD , gate or run to zone. Using a caster heavy party like we had will be a 20 min med/rebuff session if one of them engages your whole group.
Anyway will post soon when I get a foolproof way of killing the AW's and spell drop rates too. Hope this helped some.
PS--have everyone that can bind just outside of SF in OT or BW that way if party gets wiped you can get it back together quickly.

Tremendously good post, I do liek it when people put useful info on here, only 1 minor correction, Felia Goldenwing may look liek a Cromadrac, but she doesnt debuff like them (I know not really all that relavent, but I;m bored, lol)

A 61 necro and myself (56 druid)tried to take this guy on today only to find that he can't be feared at all. My snare took on first try, and all of necro's spells stuck except for fear. Wasn't all that bad because I was able to evac us both out (necro had like an eighth of a bub left though). So then we grabbed a 57 shaman from our guild. We buffed up, medded up and went out. Same as first time, I track mob and snare and pull to camp. (As long as I don't do any damage it has never summoned me, snare is fine)
Once at camp necro sicks pet in, followed by shaman pet going in. The 3 of us stand there til pets have done just about 1 bub of damage to the ancient. At which point the necro and shaman begin to dot like crazy and I'm throwing heals onto the necro pet. Was a very easy fight all in all. Think I was at like 30 or 40m at end of fight and even threw 2 winged deaths in.
He dropped the chanter spell bedlam.
