Ten Years of EverQuest with Harvey Burgess
This week we've been extremely busy stalking members of the EverQuest team, both new and old. As the week comes to a close we're still going strong and ready to continue the celebration. That said, we'd love to hear your ruleset choice for the next EverQuest server. If you haven't already voiced your opinion, please do so!
Today we had a talk with EverQuest Product Manager, Harvey Burgess; who's been with the team since 2000!
ZAM: Hey Harvey! Thanks for celebrating EverQuest with us!
Harvey Burgess: No problem at all.
ZAM: How long have you been working on EverQuest and how did you get started?
Harvey: I started out during the days of Verant in QA and I have been working with EverQuest in some shape or form since early 2000.
ZAM: What is both your most and least favorite memory about working on EverQuest.
Harvey: My favorite memory would be when the epic quests were discovered. Watching the players come together and figure out the quests that we had worked so hard on was great personally. (I made the monk version).
ZAM: Which class have you played the most in your EverQuest career? What makes that class stand out above the rest for you?
Harvey: I would have to say monk. Playing a monk required a lot more concentration because during a single pull you have the ability of wiping your group. I enjoyed having that power. Of course that's probably why my second character was a cleric.
ZAM: Over the years, is there a particular change that you've seen made to EverQuest that stands out against the rest?
Harvey: Haha. This wasn't a big change at all but being the first "nerf" I ever did it always brings about panic in my mind. I decided to finish up the newbie quests that started in Kunark. When I got to the necromancer rewards I accidentally made the spell on the final item have no recast time. It ended up going live that way and eventually, I had to change it.
ZAM: What is your all time favorite zone? Also, what's your favorite memory from within that zone?
Harvey: This is a hard question. With some many zones in EverQuest I have some great memories in most of them. If I had to recall one of my best memories it would have to be in the zone Upper Guk. We were doing a semi guild raid in the early days of EQ (Ghoulsbane) and somehow we pulled most of the zone. I still have the screenshot of all the dead frogloks.
ZAM: Thanks so much for your time! Here's to another ten years of EverQuest!
Harvey: Thanks again for having me. We'll be here. Going stronger than ever.
