padding
# Nov 02 2003 at 11:50 AM Rating: Decent
I feel a little bad then since when I sell padding in the bazzar I normally sell it for like 10pp tops.
Method
# Jul 09 2003 at 12:40 PM Rating: Decent
In everfrost peaks, there are 3 igloos in a big, open area inside the "trenches". I always make my pet guard in the center and when all the 100s of bears, wolves, and spiderlings come, I tell him to attack. After an hour of this, I go back to halas' bank, skin down all the HQ and MQ pelts, combine the silks, then put everything together and get a stack of leather padding. I sell each for 15p in bazaar. 20x15=300, so 1 hour gets you 300p! So 3 hours = about 1K, give or take. Good luck!

Does anyone know if LQ Dire wolf pelts will work for Leather padding?

and not surprisingly, shadeling silks works as well, even with non-lunar pelts.

No shadeling silks do not work, dont waste yout time
RE: other silks

Actually if you use 2 Shadeling silks and a Low Quality Rockhopper hide, it makes Leather Padding. This is much better than going the other route IMHO, because the silks are easy to farm off lesser shades, and the pelts are easy to farm in Merus Seru. If you'd prefer to buy them, it is also the cheaper route to go.
HQ ->MQ->LQ!

Using a skinning knife you CAN take a HQ pelt down to MQ, then MQ to LQ for making leather padding. Enjoy!

Seems to me you'd have to be pretty desperate for LQ hides to ruin medium or high quality ones for such a trivial item when you could me making better stuff to build skill and make a little more money with.

But if you are not a Tailor, but want to make the padding to use in your smithing, then it makes perfect sense to take down higher quality skins since you're not trying to increase tailoring, but make a single item for another tradeskill. Why should I pay up to 5Pp in the bazaar when I can just skin down hides I won't use anyway? Of course, if people did not charge 20pp for one leather padding in the Bazaar, then I would be more than happy to ignore tailoring altogether...LOL

sorry bout that i am one of them peeps selling leather paddings for 25pp in the bazaar iv made over 30k selling them so far. lol i can see why anyone would be mad to half to pay that much for somthing that is so easy to make butt still i took the time to farm the pelts so i can set the price to whatever i want. also to let you know lions in karanas drop mq and hq cat pelts all the time somtimes even both in one drop, and for arguments sake 30k is worth wasting all them pelts im afraid. i make about 50 per day and usally only make them when i want somthing!

The market will bear what it will. Some people will pay that much, some wont. Also, new merchants can come and sell for lower or higher. There is nothing wrong in setting your prices as you see fit, but eventually the market determines what you make, due to what people are willing to pay.

Hmmm, have those willing to take a HQ or even a MQ down to a LQ never thought to ask how many LQ's I would trade em for it? On a one to one reduction you gain nothing. On a 2 or 3 to one trade we both gain something. But I have only heard ONE person ever /shout it in zone and I told her to do it.

So who would really want to make one already triv'ed item instead of being given 2 or 3?

Depends on the hide I would guess... HQ wolf hide isn't all that useful and I pare it down to LQ all the time. On the flip side I always keep HQ bear and rockhopper, just because its always nice to pick up that insta 60ish each to make a couple packs on the spot. Cat hide I usally take down to LQ simply because my tailoring is already 170 and there isn't a single thing I can make with cat hide that helps out or sells well. As for MQ hides... well there are far more efficient ways to raise tailoring than messing with studded leather, so they all get the knife, this applied even when I WAS raising tailoring past that point. Just my 2 coppers worth :-) now I wish EQTraders would come back up so I could look up recipes the right way.

I assume that the different creatures give different sizes of Leather Padding. If this is the case where is a good place for a Dwarf to find LQ Wolf Pelts for small Leather padding?

There is only one size of padding.

Purchase LQ hides in Hollowshade

It is possible to buy stacks of LQ hides at the merchants at the fort just inside Hollowshade zone (From Shar Val). Saves a lot of time killing no-experience rockhoppers for higher levels trying to raise tailoring skill

I just checked and there is no merchant selling hides. It was likely PC sold hides you found.
New Leather Padding

Just thought I'd add, you can now use LQ Rockhopper hides as well. It has been confirmed that you can use a skinning knife to convert MQ to LQ. To my knowledge, HQ has not been confirmed, but I'd think it's a safe assumption.

When you put a MQ hopper hide in w/ a VahShir Skinning knife you get a Rough belt strap. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=15797
