They should bring these things back. They had a legitimate use. Tailoring items requiring more than 8 ingredients when you are far away from a loom. I don't see how these could possibly kill the tailored bag market, since there is no weight reduction. I would have preferred to see VI give tailored bags a bigger weight reduction and lower the amount that the bags themselves actually weigh, rather than take an amazingly useful item such as this out of game permanently.

When they made rockhopper hides usable in place of HQ bear skins and made them a lot easier to get than HQ bear skins, nobody complained. This encouraged people to take up tailoring to make their own bags for fun and profit and flooded the game with bags and people with the ability to make them. Has that hurt prices?? Not much by what I have seen. What makes you think the Deluxe Sewing Kit would have hurt the bag market?

And why hasn't anyone bitched about the Deluxe Toolbox in the same way that they bitched about this? It also holds 10 GIANT sized items and weighs .5 LESS than the Deluxe Sewing Kit!! You people should be in a bigger uproar over those than the sewing kits.

Please think about all the other trade skills out there like brewing, smithing, and pottery, which can't be done on the run like all the others before you ask them to come out with some thing that lets you do all you combines in the field.

That's interesting... I never did know why they took them from the game. It makes sense to me, but then again, the Deluxe Toolbox point was a good one. I remember when the DT came around (or at least when I first saw it), I thought... well this is a nice compromise between the backpack and the handmade one. However, it DOES kinda suck that the gnomes get these, yet we don't get to keep our 10-slotter. In the end, though, I don't think it is such a big deal. There aren't many combines that require more than 8 components, and well... I think there should be SOME added feature of a loom. Also, tinkering is simply a different type of skill than tailoring. At least we don't have to look for a forge or pottery wheel anytime we want to make something. I think it would make sense for certain tinkering to be done in special "toolsheds" or something, but that sounds a bit contrived I guess.

Anyhow, just my modest 2cents. :)

I decided to start my tailoring skill even though I picked up a Deluxe sewing kit many ages ago and never used it. My problem is that I can't open my sewing kit to put the items. I bought a tailoring book and I can't open to read it. I am sitting and I have my kit or book in the general store inventory. I right click and nothing. I heard that maybe it was because I was in full screen mode and is a bug. Is this true?

If you want to read books, you have to leave full screen to get the classic view (by F9 or F10) then put the book in your inventory (not in a bag) and right click on it, it will open...

It's been posted here before but if you are just looking for a cheap 10 slot storage item (ie for the bank) that holds giant size items go to iceclad and get a deluxe tool box from the gnome pirates. I got my sewing kit a while back and thought "Gee, I should get some more of these and put them in the bank." Of course I was too late. VI had taken them out. Fortunately all of my chars that tailor have one. Now I also have all my bank slots full of toolboxes. Really nice for us packrat types.

Even easier would to be to go to one of the vendors in Shadowhaven. Forgot his name, but he sells the Trader's Sachels. They're 10 slot and cost only 1pp. Problem is that they weigh 25 stones. He's right next to the bank though, so getting them in your account is a snap.

I finally worked up to the level in tailoring where I actually need one of these babies (to make Wu's pants, cloaks, and Gis). After complaining that they were no longer sold, a GM told me today that they were, in fact, still sold SOMEWHERE.

So where are these sold? In the meantime, can anyone tell me which cities have a loom?

I saw that they changed them to 10 slots and jumped all over them. I now have about 6 in my bank as well as 1 in my guild bank in case anyone in my guild would need to use it. I am on Brell serilis and if anyone would like one of my deluxe sewing kits they could give me a bizuzz. I currently carry around all 10 slots and 1 sewing kit. I am working on tailoring and I like having one incase I need to loot a giant Item. Thanks Verant for letting me have a bunch of 10 slots in my bank for about 1pp each hehe

Note that these aren't the only cheap 10 slot containers you can buy anymore. If you go to the gnome pirate outpost in Iceclad Ocean, you can buy deluxe toolboxes for about 1 1/2pp each. They are 10 slot containers, weigh 3.5, no weight reduction, and can hold giant or smaller items. Obviously this is a crappy container for lugging things around in, unless you really had no other container with a giant capacity, but they're excellent to keep in the bank for storing items. These items can also be used with gnomes' tinkering skill.

No point in paying the rediculous prices deluxe sewing kits go for anymore. They now only exist in the hands of players who owned a large sewing kit before the patch changed them to deluxe sewing kits. Merchants don't sell them anymore, and any that were sold to merchants were instantly destroyed. If you want to make a tailored item with more than 8 ingredients, you have to find a community loom if you don't happen to have a deluxe sewing kit.

Way back at the dawn of time, two kinds of tailoring kits were available from vendors: large (8 slots) and small (2 slots). Then, when cultural tailoring (for halflings, erudites, and wood elves) was added, new kits (10 slots) were introduced that could only be used by those two races to make their cultural armors. When Velious came out, another kit was made available from stores in Velious cities, the coldain tanning kit (8 slots) that must be used to make the Velious tailored armors.

Then, because they were about to introduce old world armor that had more than 8 ingredients, the old world original large kits were increased to have 10 slots. But then, people started complaining more loudly because this change meant that the large tailoring kits had as many slots as tailored backpacks but weighed less and held bigger items. So, the Powers That Be decided to remove the 10 slot tailoring kits from vendors. The problem was that they couldn't simply change them back to 8 slots, because that would cause problems for people who had items in all 10 slots. So, they changed the existing 10-slot large kits into a new item, Deluxe kits, and changed vendors back to the original large kits with only 8 slots.

Therefore, the only deluxe tailoring kits in existance are ones that players had in their possession when these changes were made. If you find them on a vendor, it is because someone sold it to that vendor. For those who need 10 slots for the recipes with more than 8 ingredients (Wu's Fighting armor), they also added Looms to some cities. Looms are stationary containers that you go to in a city and use on the spot, like ovens or brew barrels or forges.

Never paid much attention to trade skills, but I was in WC and bought me a Deluxe sewing kit from the merchants by the inn. It's a bit too heavy to use as a backpack, but i use it in my bank account. I suppose if I start tailoring (very unlikely) I will be glas to have one, but fro now, it just holds all of my large weapons and armor in storage :p

fyi, there are now sewing 'thingies' in most cities which have 10 slots, so you don't NEED a deluxe to make the new Wu's armors. They were also added with the patch which made these no longer sold.

Last night I checked all the vendors that used to sell the 10 slot large. THe only thing for sell now is the 8 slot. Even the vendor in Erudin only has the 8slot. If you see any on a vendor my guess is it was sold to them by a player. This also is per V's info that the 10slot kit will no longer by sold.

I would be surprised if that were still the case after the 5/30/01 patch. According to Verant the Large Sewing Kits now being sold on merchants are back to being the regular 8-slot Large Sewing Kits we had before they increased them to being 10-slot containers.

See my post under the subject "Verant's offical word on these" below for the details.

There IS a bear-skin bag for combining 1 use potions into multiple use potions, but there is also a tailored large bag like the one mentioned by the poster below. For myself, I spend the extra and buy medicine bags instead of large bags because medicine bags weigh less, but I'll be teaching all my characters tailoring and making weight reduction bags from now on.

To all of you out there that were using sewing kits as lightweight 10 slot containers, you now have two options. Either buy/make 10 slot backpacks (3 stones weight, 10% weight reduction) or buy/make large tailored bags (1 silk cord and 1 low quality bear skin). These have 6 large slots and reduce weight by 10% but they only weigh 0.8 themselvs. Luck to thee.

i just wish verant had left well enough alone.

i had outfitted all my characters with 8 slot large sewing kits because of the low weight. they changed them to 10 slot and i said "cool". then they just changed them all deluxe kits with a weight of 4. now all my characters are encumbered! i don't rally care about the extra 2 slots per kit (except maybe in the bank) i just wanted the low weight. now i have to go trade out all the one's on my characters for the low weight ones again. this is kind of a pain for me since my main characters are dark elves and they can't buy the stupid things.

Aww, poor guy. Can't use your sewing kits (which were meant to be used for, get this, Sewing!) as lightweight Backpacks (used for [yep, you guessed it] Carrying Stuff). You could always try using one of those kits to make your own backpacks, weight reducing no less, instead of whining about having to buy the proper equipment here on the boards.

Cripes, it reminds me of the number of people who went apesh*t when they couldn't sustain their characters for months at a time on muffins and milk any more.

Here's the straight scoop on the deluxe sewing kits from the May 30, 2001, patch message and the subsequent clarifications from Alan (Absor).
___________________________

5/30/01 Patch Message - "Sewing Kits: No existing sewing kits are being changed with this patch. But from now on, kits sold on vendors will be somewhat different. Large Sewing Kits will have 8 slots. Deluxe Sewing Kits will have 10 slots and weight slightly more than the Large Sewing Kit."

Absor - "The intent of the change was to keep the ten slot kits so that people wouldn't lose things, but to make them less desirable for carrying things. The cleanest way to do that was to rename the old kits to deluxe (and increase their weight) and to make new large kits for sale on vendors. So the 10 slot ones can't be purchased anymore, and the 'large' kit is reduced to 8 slots."
___________________________

So the existing large sewing kits held by players on 5/30/01 were converted to "Deluxe Sewing Kits" and the vendor sold sewing kits are all back to no more than 8 slots. Unless they change this at some future time the currently existing 10 slot Deluxe Sewing Kits will remain the only portable, 10 slot sewing kits for general, non-cultural use in the game.

If you want one of these you will need to find somebody who has an extra one with which they are willing to part. The alternative is to use the new 10-slot looms that are found in each of the starting cities in Norrath when you need to sew a non-cultural item that requires more than 8 slots.

Wus Fighting Shirt requires:

4 heady kiolas
3 silk swatches
1 tunic pattern
+1 vial viscous mana
-------------------
9 items

this ain't gonna fit in a regular kit, isn't this new tailoring stuff the reason for the 10slots anyway?

the way i understand, yes large kits were made heavy and 10slot then to replace the value of 10slot handmade items, were dropped and changed back to large 8slot. and so people didnt loose stuff that they might have in the 10slot when it changed back to 8, they just left the 10, changed the name and went back to the 8 for future sales. whether these are for sale in thurgadin, not sure, just know that if they are... it would suprize me.

at present, crafters can make cultural 10slot kits, 10slot backpacks(10% reduction), 10slot potion bags (smallitems only), and maybe a 10slot toolbox but not sure about that.

If you would like a 10slot kit, look up a woodelf (tunare) or halfling (karana) smith... they can make some for you... think is trivial around 140 or so...

personally wish the weight of kits had stayed .4, but oh well....

I went through a week of smithing for the express purpose of getting my skill up high enough to make a Fier'Dal sewing kit (wood elf) because I had heard they were 10 slot and still weight 0.4. Well, I finally made one, but their weight was nerfed along with the other kits. It now weighs 4 stone and has 10 slots, but is definitely obtainable in GFay...

I don't think you can buy 10 slot "deluxe sewing kits" from any vendor. From what I gather the these are only in game at all because there was a brief period when the large sewing kits were changed to 10 slot items, but Verant seems to have decided that this was a mistake and now large sewing kits sold by vendors only have the original 8 slots.

Any of the large sewing kits held by players when they changed the large sewing kits back to 8 slots were converted to the new 10 slot "deluxe sewing kits" during a recent patch to prevent any loss of items from people's inventories when the patch took effect. So far as I know these are likely to be the only deluxe sewing kits ever available in the game, so if you want one you will need to find another player who has an extra one that he is willing to sell.

The only 10 slot container you can buy at this time seems to be the deluxe toolboxes sold by the gnomish "pirates" at the igloos in Iceclad.

How nice, I was lugging mine around while in EC to make silk swatches. I only noticed that it was a Deluxe kit last night and came on here to see if I could find info. About time I got something from Verant other than my bad connect and my monthly bill )
got one by accident...

I owned a large sewing kit, so I could carry a lot of mammoth tusks.

I left EQ for about a month, and I get back, and this is what I have instead...works for me I guess, only use it for tusk carrying...
On Purpose

Verant purposely does not have these on Vendors.

1) Removes the profitability of 10 slot backpacks
2) The same time they renamed them to Deluxe, they added the stationary looms which have 10 slots
3) Tailoring is not a purchasable skill (ie all other trade skills anyone can raise given enough money, tailoring requires obtaining many drops from tough mobs) and the high end items made for it make it worth the effort to the select few.

these dont have 10% weight reduction and weigh 1 stone more than tailor made backpack - I'd still buy 10 slots for my personal use but yeah i might use these for bank usage=P

there are three wu's items that require nine components, tunic, cloak, and pants. and yeah, verant blew it on this one. they wanted to fill in the skill gap for tailors so they introduced wu's, and since three of the items require nine components, they upped the slots of the large kit. They did overlook the fact that they made 10 slot backpacks unprofitable, and after being petitioned by every master tailor who lost the only profitable tailoring item (the only good one anyway), they corrected the mistake by creating the deluxe sewing kit as a fix, only they had to do it quick before the market reaction got too big, and they didn't have time to add the deluxe to any merchants. (this is all opinion, but think about it) I will bet a full set of wu's that the next major patch will find a merchant or two or ten selling the deluxe sewing kits.

Looks like you owe us a full set of Wu's ;)

Might not be totally necessary...

There are two known recipes that take 9 items (Wu's fighting tunic and imbued vale studded tunic). The vale tunic has to be made in a special sewing kit that only halflings can use. There are stationary sewing kits in towns, like forges. They looks like white looms, click on the top bar to activate them (maybe other places u can click too).

Want a 10-slot container for bank? Go to the igloos in Iceclad Ocean to buy a deluxe toolbox. Can't go to velious? Get 2 small pieces of HQ ore (the stacking kind, drops in Runnyeye) and find a halfling smith in Rivervale to make a special "vale sewing kit."

Personally, I believe that the disappearance from the stores of the "deluxe sewing kit" was a blunder by Verant. It should be obtainable at some location, maybe hard to get to, like the igloos in Iceclad Ocean, or the brownie camp in Lesser Faydark. It should not have been fouled up like this for future tailors.

They've implimented "looms," which are stationary 10 slot sewing containers. Tailors can use those for the recipes which require 9 or 10 slots.
Where to buy?

There is no vendor in East or West Cabilis that carries these. I should have gotten more before the patch, and during the short 10-slot time

Not a sewing kit but goto the igloos in iceclad (right near the icebreaker docks) one of the gnomes there in addition to selling all sorts of tinkering items sells 10 slot delux toolbox. What is it for got me I am not a gnome, all I know its its great for organizing the bank. It is a little wieghty for use in inventory tho... as is the delux sewing kit, I personally use 3 compendiums of research (.2 wt 6 giant slots) an evil eye bag, a bearskin bag, a skewer (or what ever that cooking thing is called), a medicine bag, and a coldain sewing kit, the last I have in inventory because I like to work on skills in down time. The compendiums can be gotten thru the research quest in NK, and while they may not hold alot of loot comparitively (12 slot loss over 3 delux sewing kits) they are very light and that more than makes up for it (11.4 stones lighter than 3 delux sewign kits)

To my knowledge, and based on a post I read from Absor or someone at VI, these are not for sale, and were only created so that the people who had the Large Sewing kits that had recently become 10 slotters in their inventory did not lose items when they changed the Large Sewing kits back to 8 slotters. Basically the existing Large Sewing kits became Deluxe Sewing kits, and the vendors started selling a new item called Large Sewing kits (at least new as far as the item database is concerned). They will only sell the 8 slot Large, not the 10 slot Deluxe, probably to soothe the ruffled feathers of many a tailor, such as myself, that saw our meager profit from handmade backpacks fly out the window when regular large sewing kits were changed to 10 slotters :-)

So are you telling me that these items are not for sale, and never will be? Just like the manastone, these sewing kits will become "cult" item never toi become duplicable again!

I have 6 or so in the bank (f*ck it, I always thought I could buy a ten-slot later, heh), but if the price is obscene, I'll sell!
