My monk cons Kindly to Ashen Order, but threatingly to Silent Fist Clan. The NPC refuses to have anthing to do with me.

I also tried to open a trade window and the FD, but with no success (I guess then both factions are indifferent).
The NPC then said "I have been watching you, and apprechiate the help you've given to the brothers and sisters of the Silent Fist. But, I feel that such a vital matter should be left to one of our more trusted melbers.

My guess is amiably with SFC is required.

    The quest spoiler is wrong.
Or rather, the sentence "Hand in four Gnoll Pup Scalps at high amiable faction with Ashen Order." is wrong.
You need high amiable faction with Silent Fist Clan. probably 150 faction or higher.

    To gain faction:
Go kill a bunch of gnolls in Blackburrow, fast faction gain, fast respawn, dead boring.
Kill the Elite Guards (two rooms to raid, about 8 gnolls). Kill anything else for faction.
Elite Guards (and Commanders) drop pelts and skins you need later for the Orange Headband anyway.

So i started this quest for the long road to my Epic. Even though i had amiable faction, he would not give me the quest.
I eventually worked out why, i hadnt turned in my note way back at level one (luckily i had it in the bank). once done all was good, Posting this in case others have the same problem.

I tried this on my Iksar Monk today and, indifferent wasn't enough. It wasn't until I was amiable with the Monks in Qeynos before Phin would have anything to do with me. FYI.

You can occasionally find some gnolls wandering near the entrance to Qenos hills, but a group of 'Invading Gnoll Pups' spawn on the west right as you leave the front gate, spawn time is 3-5 minutes

I, a level 4 human monk, looted 4 Gnoll Pup Scalps. I then went back to Phin (who regards me amiably), hailed him, asked him about headbands, asked about the white headband, confirming what I needed. I then opened my inventory, took the 4 scalps out, and gave them to him. He then said, "Good.. the more of these vile dogs we slay, the safer the citizens of Qeynos will be."

... and nothing happened. No headband (on my head, or in any of the containers in my inventory), no faction, no experience, nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Edit: I was told by a friend that I had to hand them in separately, instead of stacked together. I did not know this, so I'll try that next time.

True in 2004, no longer true (as they patched quest npc to accept stacks in the last couple of years). Just handed in my stack of 4. You could do more, but due to the lore tag on the quest result you won't get your headbands (supposing you wanted to vendor them or something).

Haven't read the entire thread so I apologize if someone has already mentioned this. But, this quest has the wrong info. It is not Gnoll Scalps that you need but Gnoll Pup Scalps. I killed practically every newb mob in the zone and did get quite a few pups to pop but got 2 pup scalps out of 15 to 20 kills. What a pain in the butt. I want to get 200 pup scalps so I can do the White Headband Quest 40 times after my faction is good enuf from killing in BB. Anyone on Sol Ro, send a tell to Dulac cause I am buying the damn things whenever I can. Will pay good too!

I went into blackburrow and did the following...

Equipment: Exquis Vel Brawl Stick 32dmg 36delay, CoF, Fungi Tunic

    Start Time: 8:17PM
    End Time: 11:32PM

I killed every gnoll in the zone.(Sorry for anybody that was in the zone!!!) I avg'd about a gnoll every 5 seconds ( YES SECONDS!!! )

If you don't have the twink gear it will take a longer but I would kill about 75% of the Mobs in the first round. 23% lasted into the second round. and 2% lasted into the third round...

after leaving I was Dubious to Monks, Amb to Qeynos Guards and was able to go from North Qeynos to the bank in South Qeynos with only one agro. I can bank and was able to get back in and out with only one mob agro'ing. I was high enough dubious that when I got wolf form I could start the white quest. I picked up a backpack of scapls from the n00b merchs and finished off the night a little past midnight max ally.

I am a Human Mage, level 7, and I have been able to get Phin to talk about headbands pretty much all along. At the moment, I am trying to kill time till my girlfriend gets back on with her level 6 character, so I am looking for low EXP, potential high cash quests to pass the time. So, tonight, I decided to collect gnoll pup scalps. Once I got 4 (AND had to buy an extra one after auctioning for them, DOH!), I went to Phin, handed them over, and got me a cool white headband. Note, it took me an hour to get the 4 scalps. However, now I can go for the yellow. I don't think I'll bother any higher though, since it just takes too long.

I just did this quest and got the white headband. Go to Phin Esrinap (he is sitting outside the door to the monk guild building) and hail him. After he says his deal I replied back with "What do I have to do to earn the headband?" That triggered a response and I replied back with "How do I earn the white headband?" and he told me to get the 4 scalps. I gave him 4 and got the white headband in return. I hope this helps. This was all lin the city of Qeynos.

I'm a 12th level human monk, started in Freeport. I have "amiable" as faction with
the Qeynos monk guild. I went to the Guild Master (Lu Sun) and hailed him. He
says some useless text with no [keyword text] in it. I asked about headbands,
    white headbands, etc, but NOTHING.

Now, I'm fine with the idea that I might need to raise faction, *BUT* in Freeport if you
have low faction (which I accidentally did by forgetting to turn in my guild note), then
at LEAST the guy SAYS that there is a quest...and THEN tells you to buzz off cuz you're
not trusted enough. That's clear! But in Qeynos the guy doesn't even SAY that there
is such a thing as a headband quest.

What's up with this? Is this just another example of VI's terrible coding? Or has the quest
been taken from the Guild Master and given to someone else?

    HELP!

Lu Sun is not the guy who gives the quest. The name of the guy you're looking for escapes me at present, but he can be found either next to the PoD, in the guild house or walking between these 2 places. Hail him and he will give you the quest, or if you still can't find him... Hail the black haired guy with the mostache in either of the same 2 places and he will tell you that he takes care of the 3 higher level headbands and that so and so takes care of the white, yellow and orange (I think) lower level headbands) I'm no longer in Qeynos or I could give you their names, but maybe this'll help you out a little bit

As I understand it, we need to do the sash quests in Freeport through red, and the headband quests in Qeynos through purple. Each sash/headband quest requires the sash/headband from the previous level (except white of course). When you have the Red sash and the Purple headband, you can begin the quest that results in the Robe of the Lost Circle. You need this robe in order to get the Robe of the Whistling Fist. You need the Robe of the Whistling Fist in order to complete the Epic quest, which results in the Celestial Fists.

The Good News is that either the sashes/headbands or one of the Robes can be bought if you don't want to deal with all the faction issues. As a purist, I'm trying to earn it, besides, whichever one it is costs a LOT of plat.

The purple sash, blue sash/headband, and black sash/headband are supposed to drop off the NPC monks in the guilds, but you don't need them for the Epic, and I'd hate to imagine the faction hits, especially after having worked so hard to raise them.

Yeah, all human monks can for sure do the headband quests... If you start in Qeynos, its your home guild, so they like you... However, the Freeports like you, but not enough to give you quests, because you're agnostic... You gotta work on your faction with them a bit before you can get the Freeport quests... However, with Freeport monks, they can do all their Freeport quests, plus they can do the Qeynos quests right off the bat... However, since you start in a city, you might as well do the quests in your city before traveling to the other...

tunring my note in to Lu'sun was enough to become "trustworthy" enough for this quest, for me...it's just a faction thing...find some quests to up monk faction and you should be alright
#Anonymous, Posted: May 15 2001 at 6:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) No. If you're part of the Ashen order. You get something like a colored belt. Everything depends on where you start, in Qeynos or Freeport, thus depending on that city, you can only get that type of item (belt or headband). So, the answer is no, but a lot of us sure would like that.

Only monks can do the quest. Whether you are an Iksar monk, Queynos monk or FreePort monk doesn't matter.

Bear in mind though that you need at least indifferent faction to get the quest. There is however a shortcut to faction here. Sneak up from behind, and lo and behold your faction is indifferent since they can't see you.

I don't know about the headband quests, but the sash quests actually require you to be high amiable. All FP monks start out as amiable, but they can't run the quests until they kill a few orcs outside the gates. They have to 'prove themselves'.

Shortcut tip: Monks love wolf form ;) ( that's how my Iksar got to run the quest )

As for the Freeport monks starting with Amiable faction, (which I agree with) but not enough to do white sash quest I do NOT agree with. My Iksar Monk spent about 20'ish (prolly a lil more) real life hours camping orcs at Orc 1 and Orc 2 in East Commons, he turned in the DF belts in Wolf form (39 belts total and he hit Amiable in wolf Form to guards between belt #29 and #33). Those hours of camping orcs got him the belts to be non-KoS to the guards (still dubious but that isn't KoS) but the Ashen Order (at least the 3 outside the guild house) are 'Glares at you threateningly ready to attack - what do you want your tombstone to say?'. I had gathered 20 snake fangs, 20 bonechips, and 40 Deathfist Scalps and I finally gave in and said ***** this and made a human monk and got 2 orange bubbles into level 2 on the guild note and 20 white sashes. His faction was increased with the Guild note (which could have taken his faction to high-amiable) and the 20 white sashes from base Amiable to Kindly (which I personally was sure if it existed). As for wolf form, my Iksar monk was indifferent to Ashen Order when in wolf form and Glaring when he was an Iksar.

Sorry for slight rant but I had a not fun day going from FP to BB to FV and back to FP via death to BB and to FV were Ztix is camped on the edge of the bay near the spawn point of Vekis. I need to request for my Shackle.

I was able to complete the sash quests in Freeport as an Iksar monk. I pulled for many a newbie group at orc1 and orc2 for a very long time, I did the Janam and Rebby quests until my feet were nothing but nubs (I paid newbies to do the first half until I conned dubious to the guards and then did it myself). Then in wolf form I did the white sash quest 40 times. Then I did it another 80 times while an Iksar. I then went to HPH and killed orcs until my faction couldn't get any lower with them. Then gnolls until my faction bottomed out there as well. Every orc scalp/gnoll scalp I could loot or buy I turned in for the faction adjustments. I even fought in the HHK basement looting goblin ears for the same reason. I finally made it to Qeynos and tried wolfform to turn in the 4 gnollpup scalps. I wolfform I conned amiable to Phin, but I got the "We don't trust you yet" message. Discouraged, I decided to kill enough BB gnolls to be dubious to the guards (finally got there last night!). I'm still KOS to Dagarok (after all the corrupt guard faction work I've done, I'm a little miffed about that.) My next step is to try wolf form again and see if I can turn in the scalps now.

My only point here is that it can be done. It's a total pain, but it is possible.

Well, I'm back. My monk (Ztix) is now 22 and working in Highhold Keep. I wish I would've seen your post sooner. However, I went back to FP when I was 18 and got up to Amiable in Wolfform (took only about 100 more Orcs [Let a level 13 Iksar monk have belts after I saw Slate Kill him] at orc 2) then did 56 White sash quests and threw the 4 remaining sets of items on my mule. Went to Gfay raised almost 200pp of CBbelts/pads while I got Lego Bracers. Ztix now has his Orange sash and a white/yellow/orange on his mule. Ztix is Dubious with Highpass guards and is loving the cash flow he's getting from the pickclaws, raised almost 100pp in 5 hours, which went (partially) to buying Gnoll Pelts and skins. Now once I hit 25 it is run to FP get stuff from mule, put in bank in Highhold, and then work on faction with Non-corrupt guards and monks. *sigh* Only 1 more town to work on faction for then I get to resume my Shackles (I've had two seemingly-bugged dancing skel's, what fun)...

Something else to keep in mind: I wasn't able to get Dagarok to dubious until AFTER I did the white headband quest 40 times. By the time I decided to finally do the white headbands I was dubious to the regular guards, and dubious to the monks as well ( I killed a LOT of BB gnolls ), but I was still KOS to Dagarok. I decided I was tired of trying to impress the bugger so I got a Wolf Form, did the headband quest 40 times, then did my yellow then my orange. I walked out side, shut off wolf form and walked back in, conning everything, and even Dagarok conned dubious!!!

    Now for the Erudites... <sigh>
