Find "an avenging caitiff" in the underground tunnel beneath Ssynthi's crypt in Castle Mistmoore, near -75, +320.

You say, 'Hail, an avenging caitiff'

an avenging caitiff glares at you with fangs bared as he draws an electrum-bladed wakizashi.

You say, 'What about the electrum-bladed wakizashi?'

an avenging caitiff says 'HA! As if a mortal such as yourself is worthy of such a weapon. Leave me to my mission - my purpose in life - the slaying of those who brought me into this existence, then exiled me from this place.'

You say, 'Who must be slain?'

an avenging caitiff says 'Mother? Father? May you find peace at last. I shall avenge your suffering! I will grow stronger and set free the souls of the others.'

You say, 'Who is your mother?'

an avenging caitiff says 'My mother was named Issis. She is, to my knowledge, employed as Lord Mistmoore's maid.'

You say, 'Who is your father?'

an avenging caitiff says 'Syncall is my father's name. He serves as Lord Mistmoore's butler.'

He will reward you if you bring back their fangs to show him that you freed their souls. Maid Issis and the Butler Sincall are located elsewhere in Castle Mistmoore.

Butler: -315, -110, -188

Maid Issis: -340, -65, -188

The teeth are very rare drops (roughly 5%). Once you have both of them, hand them to the avenging caitiff. Upon doing the turn-in:

an avenging caitiff says 'Mother? Father? May you find peace at last. I shall avenge your suffering! I will grow stronger and set free the souls of the others.'

You receive an Electrum-Bladed Wakizashi.

I'm not sure if I got really lucky or not, but I only had to get the Maid and Butler to spawn once each. They both had their fang on them when I did get them to spawn, perhaps the fangs always drop on them now.

Here's my experience doing this quest:

Zone into Mistmoore, there is usually a familiar who wander right up to the zone-in, so it may be attacking by the time you finish zoning in. Kill it, invis up and head for the castle entrance. Once at the castle there will be some mobs that see invis, usually they are the white vampire model, the newer dark elf models don't see invis. The skelly Sir Bronthas also see's invis, and has a huge agro range. Be aware that mobs in this zone can sense you through doorways, so don't be too surprised if something attacks from behind after you've run past some doorway.
If you have current maps the Butler and Maid rooms are marked. They are on the main floor, far back left corner. They are static mobs.
Head in the front door, take a left past the two gargoyles, pass the first room, then take a right into the secret passage before the next room. (If you pull into this passage to fight, don't cast aoe's, you WILL agro lots more mobs through the walls :P ) Though the secret passage then take a left through the gargoyle room, then the hallway turns right. Halfway down on the right hand wall is the doorway to the Kitchen. 3 mobs spawn in there, 2 'an ancille cook's and 1 random mob. These ones like to agro through the door, so hug the left wall passing it. If you stop to kill them, the cooks are a bit tougher than any other mobs in the castle except Sir Bronthas. They are also on a longer spawn timer, about twice as long as all the others. Past the kitchen the hallway branches to the right, or ends at a door. The door is Butler Syncall's room, the right hand hallway ends at Maid Issis's room. There is a mob spawn outside each door, plus a third mob that spawns in Maid's room and roams up hallway to Butler's room. When you open the door to Butler's room (if he or PH haven't agroed you through the door) his spawn is on the right (-316, -113, -189) and a gargoyle is on the left. In the Maid's room, her spawn is on the left (-342, -91, -189), gargoyle on the right.
Snare everything, they often run, even the undead.
Bring lots of empty bag space, the mobs here drop fine steel, and the occasional gemstone or bronze armor piece. While waiting for respawns you can farm the gargoyles for gargoyle eyes, which sell well to high lvl brewers. Also, there is a vendor out in L Fay at the ranger outpost (Analia, loc -321, 1249) so between spawns you can run out and unload your bags.
If you are watching your tracking window to tell you when respawns are happening, be aware that an undead knight and a mistmoore guard (or Xicotl) are constantly despawing/respawning with the day/night cycle, so they will always be on or near the top of your tracking window. Also the Black Dire will despawn and respawn, but not nearly as frequently.
After however many days it takes you and you finally have both your fangs (congrats on your patience!!!) its time to find 'an avenging caitiff'.
Head to the graveyard, go inside the crypt, walk to either side of the coffin, and fall into the room with the Undead Knight. He is non-kos to all, so ignore him. Go through the secret passage up to the jail room. left through the wall is the way back outside, right through the wall is the way into the hallway where the caitiff spawns. Spawn point is the second step from the top of the stairs (-213, 226, -166). The PH wanders down the stairs into the jail and back up, stopping and standing now and then. At the top of the stairs the hall goes right to the Tower or left to the torture room. 2 mobs spawn in the torture room, and at least one of them likes to agro you through the door if you stand still at the top of the stairs. On past the torture room are 3 gargoyle rooms to farm while you wait for respawns, with 2 or 3 roaming mobs between their rooms. Off the first gargoyle room is the secret way back into the castle by way of the spa room. This is where a mistmoore guard/Xicotl spawns, along with a couple other mobs, and they like to agro you through the wall if you get too near. If your killing a mistmoore guard, snare early, she likes to run early and heads back through the spa into the bedroom, agroing quite a crowd. After the second gargoyle room you can turn right and head down to Mistmoore's coffin, only one wanderer down there. Left to the last gargoyle room. Past that is the secret entrance back into the castle by way of the piano room, 3 or 4 mobs in there.
Hmm, what else...
The Silverwing Loop drops here to start that series of quests.
There is a little augment that drops, pretty rare, only saw it 3 times in the 5 days I was camping there.
after turning in my fangs and getting the EBW, caitiff despawned and a PH immediately respawned rather than another caitiff, so probably can be any mob on the cycle.

Thats all I can recall. Make sure you get your maps before heading in, that way to ease the boredom you can see how many of the named you can get to spawn while your there lol. Most of their drops are pretty useless these days, but at least its something to do! :P
Butler Syncall's Fang
# Aug 25 2007 at 12:34 PM Rating: Decent
Hope this helps.

Butler Fang spawns at approximately: -323.04, 127.53 (Spawn time seems to be approx. 20-23 min)
He is in the same wing as the Gypsy Pit amd Negotiater Room on map. Down the hallway from the "Kitchen"
(If you go the Gypsy pit, leave through the south door-Turn East-Go to the end of the hall-Turn South and go to the end of the hall-Turn West and that's where he spawns

I completed the Vampire Teeth quest on 4/20/2007. Just filling in a hole in my Spell Book...

Here's the complete dialogue,
including his final line after turn-in
:

You say, 'Hail, an avenging caitiff'

an avenging caitiff glares at you with fangs bared as he draws an electrum-bladed wakizashi.

You say, 'What about the electrum-bladed wakizashi?'

an avenging caitiff says 'HA! As if a mortal such as yourself is worthy of such a weapon. Leave me to my misson - my purpose in life - the slaying of those who brought me into this existence, then exiled me from this place.'

{Turn in the two fang's}

an avenging caitiff says 'Mother? Father? May you find peace at last. I shall avenge your suffering! I will grow stronger and set free the souls of the others.'

You gain experience!!

He then de-pops and immediately re-pops at his spawn point at the top of the staircase. There is no faction hits for killing him, and none for doing the turn-in either. You do gain experience for the turn-in, and he usually has about 1pp in cash on his corpse, along with typically Essence of Moonlight and one of the two Crested armor pieces.

Ok... So where does he spawn now?......... Is it in LF or Castle? And why would a vampire looking zombie pop at an Orc Camp? Always seems to be an empty tent in the Loc perscribed In LF... and spent the night plowing Castle with War And still no Caitiff... This is day two and have about 9 hours invested in this total.. I'm not even sure this spell is realy worth it since the lvl 52 spell is right around the corner and I can buy it.. All this time seems like a huge waste and I still have to do the rest of the quest.

The Caitiff is back in Mistmoore now, since the zone was reverted to pre-revamp form. I found the caitiff at roughly -76.90, 322.77, -234.15, in the underground tunnel beneath Ssynthi's crypt, but he wanders the dungeons.

You say, 'Hail, an avenging caitiff'

I had tried this many seasons ago, and gave up after the butler never ever ever never dropped his fang. So we ran out to Castle Mistmoore and camped the butler and the maid. I went in there with my 65 ranger and owned the whole castle. Not hard really. we just set up camp in the Butler's room. My wife's ranger is level 41, figured she could get some xp while we are here, so not a bad idea. I kept pulling to her in the butler's room, when all of a sudden, POP in the Maid's room. Luckily she didn't aggro around the corner! The Fabled Maid Issis! So I buffed myself up. Casted my newly acquired Veteran reward Infusion of Spirit. Max Stats for 15 minutes. Got my Potion belt up and ready to fire of HoT's as needed. Pulled her out into the hallway. Woot I solo'd the fabled Maid. Felt kinda bad, she dropped an ok piece for casters only. But she popped again by the time the night was up. Back to the fangs, she dropped the one my wife needed. So she looted that one, (the easy one as far as I knew). So we both have the Maid's fang now, and then the butler popped after killin PH like 3 or 4 times. And first kill he dropped the fang! Let her loot, than we waited and after 2 more PH's he popped and dropped a second fang! Not sure if they have changed the loot table on the fangs, but dropped 3 of 3 times killin the named. Went and she did her turn into the avengin Cattif, he was already up luckily! I had to run back to bank pick up the maid's fang run back out and after about 1 1/2 of killin ph's the Cattif popped again! woot, hard part done, now I can finish this quest, only 15 levels after i started it. :(
The Vampire Teeth Camp: Complete Rundown
# Sep 21 2005 at 10:25 AM Rating: Decent
I just got both fangs for this, 45secs before the server shutdown at 7am on Sept 21, 2005. I did not even get a chance to turn them in. I’ll do that tonight after the 5hr (yeah right) ‘scheduled’ shutdown for all the US servers.

Despite what it says above, this is not a camped area anymore. Peeps have moved on. I never saw anyone else.

The camp is in Lesser Faydark at approx location 350 x 350. There are three tents. Each contain 1-2mobs and there can be anywhere from 3-5 mobs outside the tents too. To get there from PoK, take the Kelethin book into Greater Faydark. Run south to the Lesser Faydark zone in. Then run South East to the camp.

This is a low end zone, but you are headed into the most dangerous part of it. Mobs will be from 30-45, and I think I got one that was slightly higher than that. You fellow Rangers will need ext KEI. That is not an option, get it or die (or take 3x longer to camp the area, which is worse than death). You do not need ext Virtue, but if you get it in a MGB in PoK then all the better.

There are two main dangers in this zone, other than the Mobs you are killing. They are ‘a Brownie Scout’ (or Guard) and ‘Equestrielle the Corrupted’. The brownies and horse roam the other parts of the zone, so you really only have a problem with them while getting to the camp; but I did get one brownie jump me in the camp. The horse scared me when he jumped me, as he was all black and makes lots of noise. Both these mobs con light blue or dark blue (to my 55 Ranger). They hit hard at 45-115 with 75 being the average. Both will peel off about 1000-1500hps during a battle. If you want exp killing them, which I did too, then take that as a warning. The horse does not hit fast, but the brownies do.

So now you made it to the camp. Here is where you are at the most risk. You need to break the camp properly and control the spawn cycle. If you pull wrong and train yourself, you will die. Use Snare on the closest Mob to you, and then nuke it. If you nuke it, it will come (cue the Field of Dreams). Repeat on other mobs working your way closer into the middle of the camp. Don’t hurry, as they will re-spawn 15mins later. Keep them spaced apart nicely. Allow yourself some med time.

The Mobs will agro through the tents, so beware of this. Run forward about 20 feet and then back again and see if you aggroed one. Increase distance until you do; this works nicely. Arrows will not work on ½ of the mobs as they are invulnerable, but it will pull them nicely. Once you have camp cleared, sit right in the middle of it and med up between Mob re-spawns. You will know when one re-pops as it will attack you, so there is no need to remember exact times. They don’t hit too hard, so don’t worry. When sitting to med, you can expect to get hit big the big spiders that roam the entire zone. They only hit for 20 and have less than 300HPs so don’t sweat it. Kill them and loot silks for tailoring. I kill all of them while waiting for spawns I got about 300 silks now too.

So what Mobs are here…many different kinds. Cloaked Dhampyre, a Soul xxxxx, a Will xxx , Princess xxxx, Preistess xxxx and at least 6 named mobs. It is a plethora of Mob-age. 95% of these will con green. 4.99% will con light blue. I had one con dark blue, which of course I did not know until after she attacked me. I was sitting and she hit me for 226. Imagine my surprise. I was at 100% health and mana, so I was not too worried. She had low HPs but hit hard, usually around 80-110. Once melee began, she went down on me faster than a Catholic school girl on a first date.

All of the Mobs here cast like crazy. Even at level 55, I usually had 1-2 on me about 1/3 of the time. My resists are 75-105. All of the mobs here cast DDs and DoTs. Most are minor, but every now and then one of the Mobs lets loose with a 365DD that gets your attention. Hit your Resistance discipline to mitigate some of this.

All of the Mobs have low HPs. None are melee class so they hit like a little girl or a cleric or Enchanter or something. All mobs drop plat from 1pp to 5pp. almost all Mobs from vendor fodder to that sells for 9gp to 7pp each.

Rangers, just keep yourself fully buffed the WHOLE time you are there. The buffs are Call of Earth, Strength of Nature, Spike Coat, Shield of Brambles, Skin Like Diamond, Feel Like Cat, Chloroplast, Wolf form, Call of Fire. Also have your spell list containing Chloroplast, Healing, Drones of Doom, Tangle, Ensnare, Shield of Brambles and Firestrike. You will be casting Chloroplast a lot as it is constantly de-buffed.

I think Sony has changed the drop rates as this camp was moved from Mistmoor. The Butler will drop his fang first. He did this on the 7th time I saw him. He pops frequently. The Maid is now a rare spawn. This will aggravate you, I promise. I only saw her 3 times in the 7 nights that I camped this place. I was there for 2-4hs each night. That works out to about 80 cycles (7nights x 3hrs avg x 15min spawn). I found that she was never up unless ‘an avenging caitiff’ was also up. I experimented killing him to see what would happen. You can kill him all you want as there are NO faction hits in doing so. Based on my exp, leave him alone.

Once your bags are filled then, run to South to location -100 x 1100 (about 20secs away). There is a camp of vendors. Con them first to make sure you don’t get wiped out. Sell all your junk. You will most likely still be too heavy, as the Mobs drop a lot of coin. Use this trick. Buy back the Ruby you sold for 4pp. My CHA is 141 BTW. You lose about 5-10% in the buy vs sell price difference. This will empty all of your silver and copper and it is much better than destroying them. You will probably have to buy/sell 10 at a time, but adjust accordingly. When done, run back to the camp and have fun again. I made about 1100pp this way.

I'll post faction hits and other dialogue later today or tomorrow when I do the turn in.

One of the October 2005 patches put Mistmoore back the way it was before the early 2005 revamp. The butler and maid are back in the rooms they used to be in...the two rooms in the lower right corner, past the kitchen (reference eqatlas.com). There are two spawnpoints in each room, plus a spawnpoint just outside each door. In the rooms, one spawnpoint generates only gargoyles while the other spawns trash mobs like 'thought sapper', etc. and rarely the butler (in the right room) and maid (in the left room).

These guys may have been heavily camped "back in the day" when the character level cap was 50 and a +5 anything was uber, but hardly anyone came into the zone while I was there, and no one wanted them. I don't think many players bother with the spell quest any more.

I went in with my 66 mage and camped both rooms. Five hours of camping resulted in 4 butler pops and 3 maid pops. The last butler pop dropped a fang. The day after, I camped only the maid room and after 3 hours and two maid pops, the fang dropped.

The "an avenging caitiff" (no capitals) was where his posts say...his spawnpoint is at the top of the stairs that lead up from the jail to the tower hallway. He (and the other trash mobs that share his spawnpoint) wander up and down them. The other mobs will agro you but he won't, just like previous posts say. Had to camp and clear his spawnbuddies about 2 hours before he popped.

Good luck,
Munnon

Butler Syncall and Maid Issis Fang Drops
# Sep 01 2005 at 6:07 AM Rating: Decent
I finished this the other day and have some information that will definitely help. There is a camp of dark elf vampires with three tents around a campfire. It is just east of the center of Lesser Faydark and is marked "ORC" on the maps. I goofed up my notes and wrote down 2 locations for the campire, but one is definitely correct and I'll try to check it out and fix this post after I do. The two locations are 225, 335, and -200, -580. I spent most of the time camping it with my 57 mage and as long as I didn't get careless or jumped by too many wandering brownies at once, I had no problems.

The spawn cycle is approximately 15 minutes. Maid Issis spawns more often than Butler Syncall. I camped this site almost every night for about 3 weeks. During that time, I never saw anyone else camping the site. I did not keep a log but estimate I probably spent about 40 to 60 hours killing the spawns. During that time, Maid Issis dropped 4 fangs (2 of which I was forced to let rot) and Butler Syncall dropped 1 (after which I no further need to camp it.) As an added insult, Butler Syncall dropped a second fang on the very next spawn cycle after I got mine.

There are about 9 or 10 spawns in the camp, 2 in each tent and 3 or 4 outside the tents. If done right they can be single pulled using arrows or spells (such as snare) and practice will demonstrate what order to pull them in. Apparently the Maid and Butler can spawn in any of them. I saw both in several different spots during my stay.

The avenging caitiff also spawns in at least 3 different locations and since there are a couple other named that spawn in multiple places, I can only speculate that anything can spawn in any of the spawn spots in the camp. The caitiff conned indifferent to both my ranger and magician and it is not necessary to kill him to get the others to spawn. During the early phases though, I found it more convenient to dispatch him as well. Also, you do not have to do any of the dialog with him. You can simply kill, loot the drops, and turn them in to get the sword.

Good luck and Happy Hunting !

Well Ive been in the area of Lesser Faydark and Castle Mistmoore for a long time, close to 2 days. I found an avenging caitiff and hailed him. Needless to say nothin happened so I killed him, but im not to worried about that cause I know where he is and where he spawns.

So I went looking for the Butler and Maid in lesser Faydark and they were no place to be found, went to Mistmoore and still couldnt find them. I do have tracking and I am using it quite often and Im going back and forth between zones as quick as I can. I was told to look in the kitchen in Mistmoore by one of my fellow rangers and the pictures posted LOOK like they were taken in Mistmoore. Can someone PLEASE help me. Im on the Prexus server and Ill be in this Mistmoore until I find these guys.

Much the same story tonight...Maid Issis and Butler Syncall were up outside the tent (for a short time after my arrival) he was inside of. Okay, with the revamp of MM, where can you find the npc's for this quest? I can not see having to fight 60s mobs to get a 50 level Ranger spell.
RE: Where
# Dec 27 2004 at 10:18 PM Rating: Decent
it will probably be just like Cazic Thule where the moved all the old mobs outside of the zone so the quest mobs will be mobed outside the zone as well.. or the quest will be destroyed
Is it worth it?

My question is this,,,, is it worth the time and effort? I have spent countless hours with the help of friends to no avail. Im a 59 Ranger and started this because it almost seemed simple and quick,, haha on me =)

It's a long pointless quest but here is the deal on the fangs. If they spawn with the DE model you have wasted your time so be sure to hit yourself in the head every time this happens, if they spawn as a vampire with the whiteish skin then you have your fang. Simple as that...

Ok i am going to try and post something more than hey i got the fangs whoo hoo. I decided to do this at 53 i was worried about aggro and see invis mobs. But all in the guld told me only the undead see invis and only pop at night. So just wait till daytime game time and you can invis all the way to the rooms. Make sure you are invis running past the kitchen the ancille cooks will aggro. Best thing to do is break up the guards in the halls. 2 plus a roamer try and time this so that they re pop in between room pops, so that you have time to kill them and med back up for the fight. I started with the butler room i root the gargoyle so that i can take the butler or PH alone. The mobs around the room and the ones in the hall didn't aggro through the wall but cast something like shadow compact to heal whoever i was fighting at the time. Give yourself a min or 2 with the gargoyle rooted throw a dot on it so when the room re pops you have time to take out whoever pops first then you can kill the gargoyle solo. Like everyone else said the mobs are on a 25 min timer i always made a note when i dropped a place holder to keep track. Another good tip if you kill the mobs in time with the day you won't get a will pillager/sapper or soul seductress as a ph at night. Often i would medd invis and they would attack me while i was sitting there. I got lucky with the butler he dropped his fang the first time. However i had spent 2 days killing that stupid maid i logged to go to a concer, and when i got back some ranger went through and the fang dropped for him. So at the time of writing this i am still siting here camping the maid.
I found it was best to melee the ushers and heralds and only snaring them. about the only spell that kept sticking on me dispite a mr of 124 and a fire resist of 115 was boil blood. offerer and sacrificers would spawn on occasion as well. they were easy but had a their magical skin spell on. One shot of icewind fixed that real quick and usually died in a few sec. In the high forties this is a very easy camp also very easy to come out of one days camping with a minimum 100pp and that just in dropped plat. All the mobs this deep in mistmore were dropping fine steel and bronze armor. The majority of the time the gargoyles dropped a set of eyes. Wish me luck hopefully that stupid mail will drop the fang tonite if she ever pops.

I needed the EBW for the ranger Call of Flame quest. I took the Maid and Butler with help though I believe it can be done solo with proper care.

But the Avenging Caitiff was my bane. I put in hours and hours of time waiting for him to pop to no avail. I became convinced the quest was broken but woe to anyone trying to /petition a GM or get a hold of someone at SOE these days (yet they're happy to keep taking our subscription money every month)... /rant off.

I checked in today, about 8 am game time and there he was. I cast wolf form and improved camo and jetted to the graveyard. He was standing in the room that's on the other side of the hidden door next to the tomb. As soon as I gave him the teeth and got the sword he poofed. I checked for him again by the time I got back to the Lesser Fay zone but he wasn't around so I can't verify whether or not he repops as others have claimed.

Perhaps I was just unlucky but I've never had to put in so much game time or delay my EQ life for so long just to take care of what's essentially an administrative part of a quest. Mr. Caitiff's spawn table could use some work IMO, your mileage may vary.

Happy Hunting everyone!

I was wondering if I could solo the maid and butler. At 50 they'd probably be light blue, and the other spawns and PH would be green. I know they are casters, but I can raise my resists significantly. With self-buffs and two 8sv all rings instead of 5ac 55hp rings I can get my FR up to about 100, cold to about 90, and magic to about 50 or 60. With resist gear I would have about 1525hp buffed as well, with ac 835ish and a constant DS of 6 that I can increase to 18. Weapons would be lupine dagger 9/18 in primary and centi LS 14/27 in secondary. No haste unfortunately. My attack would be 975ish. Is this enough? It isn't easy to drag friends from what they're doing to kill greens that won't drop anything that will help them, so I'd rather get this done on my own.

I'm soloing the butler room right now at level 49 with no problems. Just wait until daytime, camo up and head to the room. Make sure you are self buffed before attempting to take the room. And don't mess with the Ancille cooks solo! they hit me twice with 371 hp HTs. That hurt.

Easy camp at 49 once the room is broken. I killed the maid easily too.

try to get your MR up past 80 if you can. make things much easier. i've been doing this quest for a total of about 5-6 hours, 2 maids, 1 butler, and it SUCKS.

hate this quest, but every time i'm xping i think to myself "i could use CoF here. or here."

lord knows why they didn't add this as a bought spell in PoP - the risk/reward is on CoF out of whack these days. anyone know if the teeth can be bought? i'd certainly pay 300 for each.

fangs are lore, but droppable - just bought each of them for 350p in bazaar, someone /auc'ed it and i had just sold an eye of the griffon - figured i could spend 8 hours farming instead of 20+ hours camping in boredom and frustration.

and i recommend the same to anyone with the opportunity, this camp sucks x.x

i just did the maid and butler and i am 50. If you recall the long hallway that goes from the room with four gargoyles in it (they're up high a bit but there) down to the maid and butlers rooms, now direct your attention to the first corner in that hallway (just as you enter the hallway and make a right turn. that corner). That is the perfect pull spot as far as clearing your path down there, since you can cast on the mob down at the other end, and not agro his buddies.

Myself, I used Immolate to pull the melee mobs to me, and cancel amgic for the casters (i hate banshee aura). Slash crush dead. Then, doing as this fellow below me said, i woul stand to one side of the door to pull just a single mob out and kill it. Once rom was clear, I stayed inside the room and just did that room. Butler spawned for me on very next cycle so i got him, and he had the tooth.

Miad was tougher. Came back next day since had to go to sleep after the butler, and got to her room same way. I then stayed in her room for the next 14 hours. In that time she spawned 5 times for me (far too few if you ask me, especially considering the 20 minute wait between cycles), dropped a wreath each time and obviously, the fang on the last one. Only other mobs i had to fight that whole time were the garg in the room, and the one mob that spawns outside her door. So yes, its an easy camp, and I have bad resists.

Snare, lev, these things you need not. Just a camo to get there and some *** whomping once you are there. And another tip: to not agro the ancille cooks and have to withstand their 300hp HT, just stick to the opposite wall from their door.

Now if only the caitliff would spawn. Up to 4 hours for him so far.

I'm there now trying to get the fangs and I'm only level 51.

Tips on getting in there- Have Lev up and be fully buffed while Invis'd. Some of the mobs on teh way to the maid and butler room won't see invis but there are a few that do. Just know where you are going and run there quickly. With a little luck nothing will break your Invis.

When you get there, watch to see what mobs are around. There are 2 mobs in each room. One is a Gargoyle and the other is either the Maid/Butler or the PH. There is a mob outside each door and 2 in the hallway between the Maid and the Butler room. They have a good chance of joining the fight if you get too close to the edge of the room.

Snare all the mobs. Some of them run. Don't worry about harmony as by the time you open the door and start to cast, the mobs in the room will already know you are there and start on you.

Make sure you have your DS up. Call of Sky is good to have too for that extra chance of disrupting the casters.

Fully self buffed to the gills my AC is about 909 and I use a Lammy and a Rev whip. I can usually clear a room and still have about 2 bubbles of health, 30% mana left. Respawn time is about 23 minutes according to my clock which gives enough time to re-med, heal up fully and take out the other room. Just try to keep invis'd while medding in case of the random spawn or roamer.

One last thing, if the doors open and close on their own, don't worry. It weirded me out for the first couple of times they did that. Turns out it was just the castle doing it on it's own.

So far I've spent about 30 or so hours camping the maid and butler only to have them both spawn once and that was at the same time. Good Luck!

Just thought I would share my experience so others may benefit from what I have learned. I know how tought it is to get "reliable" information on mobs, camps and drops so here it is.

I started camping these two mobs (Maid and Butler) at 49 and was able to get the butler fang right away, got lucky as subsequent camps of maid proved that both fangs are rather rare for the drop. The maid was by far the one who gave the most trouble in dropping the fang.
I popped her about 15 times and only yielded one fang. Nightshade wreath is her regular drop IF she spawns instead of a PH. The maid will spawn consecutive so the table is random. Patience is the key.
The smallest group I camped her successfully with myself (50 Ranger at the time) and a (47 Pally) Neither of us are uber twinked. We were able to break in and maintain the camp until we decided to leave. Break in is the toughest part.
There are two mobs in the maid room.. The maid on the left side of the bed and another mob on the right (Same as butler room layout) There are also 1-2 mobs outside the door usually casters.
They were green at the time however don't let that think you can just waltz in and waste em they can and will chain nuke for 250+ a whack. The plus is they have minimal hp so if you can stun them a few times or absorb 500-750pts damage you can take them out rather quickly.

When breaking in I camoed us and we went all the way in to the maid room (During the day as at night there are vamps that see through camo and can blow your cover quick and make you have to train out and start over)
Here is how the pally and I did it.
Once in and still camoed we rooted the garg (right side of bed) and stunned the maid simultaneously. Then jumped the maid. The maid didn't stand out as a tough mob she went down pretty quick. Stuns will definatley help. The two pops outside the door jumped in and before we took two nukes the maid was dead and garg was still rooted. We killed the two mobs and then jumped the Garg. It was all over in less than 2 minutes.
The mob or two outside the door are what make the "break in" tough. These are usually casters and will aggro when you drop camo. So keep the Garg rooted till last and take out Maid, Door spawns THEN garg. Once cleared it is easy to control the camp. With care you can single pull the surrounding rooms (Butler, Cooks, Garg Hallway and Negotiator Room) for extra plat and Garg eyes fetch 9pp. About 3-4 hours of camping can yeild you about 300-400pp in coin and drops.
This helps alleviate the boredom of the camp. The Maid or a ph will spawn about every 15-20 mins.

As far as soloing I think it could be done BUT not by all classes. I would recommend 50+ and a Hybrid class like SK, Ranger, Pally, maybe a Druid could do it but hard to say. Room is rather small and interrupts happen alot so melee skills are what keeps you alive. Casters wouldn't fare well as the PH table for the maid includes melee classes as well as casters and you WILL get beat on.

Last night I finally got the maids fang after camping on and off for about 4 months (whenever I was in area with help) Over all I think I have about 20 hours into the camp to get both fangs. During this time I killed the butler twice. So he appears to be a rare spawn but drops more often.

Either way this is a long and tedious camp and if you have no patience spend the 1k in EC to get the fangs as they aren't no-drop.

I will be turning in the fangs as soon as the AC spawns and I'll post an update as to if it stays up or despawns etc..

I hope this helps anyone who may be wondering if they can do it or not. Also keep in mind that this post was MY experience so yours may be different.

OK I'm currently bored out of my mind camping the Avenging Catiff for this so I thought I'd add to the above post.

1. I've camped the maid/butler several times but recently saw 2 butler fangs in 5 butler spawns and 2 maid fangs in 3 maid spawns so it seems to me the drop rate has been increased.

2. You (as a Ranger) can solo this. I'd have to agree with Revicus on what classes could probably solo it. I've done it more then once at my current level (52) and the main prerequisite is that you can single pull these mobs (Harmony can help although I've never used it at 52).

3. If you are having trouble soloing try finding a bard friend (invite one that will get exp) as they make it all the easier.

OK how to solo it. It's really quite simple and the key is to break the spawn.

Here is a little map you can copy/paste in to Notepad to see the proper formatting:
+---+-----+-------+
|.f.|....g|.m.[].g|
|...d....=|.......|
|...|....b|...w...|
|...+-----+---d---+
|..x.............x|
|...+-------------+
|...|.............|
|...|.............|
|...d...kitchen...|
|...|.............|
|.p.|.............|
|...+-------------+

Key:
p - start pull spot
f - where you eventually want to fight
d - door
m - maid/PH
b - butler/PH
g - gargoyle
x/y - fixed spawn
w - wandering spawn (out corridor towards kitchen)
=/[] - bed

Notes:
Leave the cooks in the kitchen along with the other mob that spawns in there if soloing. The cooks are lblue at 52 and I didn't mess with them.

NOTE: The following assumes all mobs are spawned.

1. As mentioned above head in with camo up during the day. Only stop in the corridor before the kitchen just after the gargs (p on map).

Buff up here, including Fire/Cold resists. I wore some resist gear for this as things don't hit all that hard for this level but those nukes can hurt.

2. You should be able to see the first mob (x) at the corner of the corridor past the kitchen. Just pull it and kill it.

NOTE: At this spot the cooks will heal the mob (SK/Necro heal) but you should be able to outdamage the heals. You may be able to move straight to f but you risk getting the w mob as well as x.

3. You'll need to rest up a bit between fights but now it's just a matter of pulling one mob at a time and killing them. I tried to leave a time that felt right between spawns. You have a minute or three, I never did time myself.

I took the mobs in this order:
w/y - w/y - b - g (in butler room) - m - g (in maid room)

4. With the spawn broken you can fight x/y/w at point f and the other mobs where they spawn.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
(a) As SOON as a mob gets to you snare it. These things are green and can be running before you know it. The last thing you want is a train full of casters.

(b) The thing you have to worry about most are casters. Keep those resists up and consider using a fast weapon to try interrupting them, or if you can spare the mana (and are 52+) Firestrike to finish them quick.

I hope that helps some fellow Rangers out.

fangs?

If you need 2 sets of fangs and the Butler drops them twice, will that work? Or does it have to be one set of fangs from the Butler and one from the Maid? Is there any difference between the drops?

You need a fang from each they are named Butler Syncall Fang and Maid Issis Fang respectively.
