Started working on the first 4 Ring quest and got every thing needed to do them. The first one is short and sweet. This second one is a bit more troublesome, seemingly more so then even the 3rd and 4th(?). Got the axe from Garadain Glacierbane and then ran to Boridain Glacierbane. Right away he just starts hitting me. The guy is green to my 51 Ranger and I am thinking WTF! Then it hits me.....Dowh......Wolf Form you dolt! Seems this dosent bother Garadain Glacierbane and the clan at the camp, thank Karana, or they would have had my wolf hide! Going to try the Charm/Lull idea on Boridain and the Mobs. If it works then this one will turn out to be just a walk in the park, a big cold park where the rides try to eat you! :o
Watch out for players doing 8th war while you escorting this little guy around. Mine got killed when he got near the rygor fort and all those elites bushwacked him. One important note, pacify (or that line of spell) works great on mobs and even on Boradain so he not so aggressive. Didn't need to fight one mob along the way even when he walked right to the giants at the fort. Wil try it tommorrow with no 8th war going on wish me luck.

Followed Boridain around last night, didn't bother prekilling anything. Dire charmed rhino and a level 60 warrior were plenty to keep him alive on his trip. Just run ahead a bit as he approaches the giant fort, and pull one of the giants away from it, set pet or melee on it. He'll join the fight, but not be the punching bag for it. Then pull the next guard and/or captain, or just root and dot them, or kite them. Same tactic works fine at the jail area and ry'gorr fort.
Watch out for people at the Ry'gorr fort though. Found someone (for no apparent reason) kiting around 5 or 6 legos and elites, and of course they came near Boridain and he decided they all needed to die. I snared one and we killed it, then Boridain went berserk trying to simultaneously follow his script to return home AND kill the remaining orcs. So after running full tilt into a wall for a minute, he warped back home and sat down for a rest. By the time I reached him, I had less than a minute to kill the kodiak (didn't know this of course), and he disappeared before I was able to finish off the rabid kodiak.
Good news is he seems to have around a 20 minute respawn (although I restarted the quest with Garadain to get the dull axe again, thinking maybe he was partially triggered, so perhaps that did have some effect on his respawning), and if you get the axe from Garadain again, you can hand him the axe, then hand him the rabid kodiak's pelt to get the broken axe and complete the ring quest.
Correction: at the northeast giant fort, he goes to the southWESTern building, not southEASTern. You still need to kill the giant and orc here, however.
When given the axe, he takes off to the giant fort to the west, and stops at the front gate. You need to kill the gate guards before handing in the quest, and the frost giant captain. He then goes to the giant fort at the northeast corner of zone, to the southeastern most building, which has a giant and an orc. Kill these before he gets there. Then he heads in the general direction of the orc fort, stops for a nap, and then winds up at the gate to the orc fort. You need to kill the guards there first too. He gives up after that and goes back to his spawn point. The rabid kodiak should be there when you get back. Kill it, and give him the pelt QUICK. Otherwise he will despawn or possibly even get killed. Mine got killed. I am now waiting for respawn to see if I can hand the axe over, then immediately hand over the pelt. Wish me luck...
I didn't get mine turned in fast enough on Coirnav, and he poofed. I got another axe, turned it in once he respawned, turned the hide in to the quest version of Borridain (with axe in hand), and he gave the broken axe back.
He then proceeded to follow his pathing, so I protected him again. He made it back, I handed the hide immediately this time, and got a second broken axe (on a different toon).
