This is a stretch of frozen land which covers the northeastern part of Velious. In the east, a large ice bridge connects to the islands of Iceclad Ocean while in the northwest, a break in the mountains leads to the Great Divide. Kael Drakkel, the city of giants, sits in the southwest while a dragonhead portal to Sleeper's Tomb sits in the south.

Many factions have taken up residence here. There is a frost giant fort and a few Coldain outposts. As well, the Ry`Gorr orc clan is well-established here with a large fort (which also houses the entrance to the Crystal Caverns) and a few outlying camps. These are in addition to the area's wildlife: From the benign rhinos, mammoths, and snow bunnies to the highly aggressive griffins, manticores, and cougars; you'd best watch over your shoulder while hunting here.

After trying to charm my way from lvl 44(trying being the keyword) I feel I now have enough knowledge to give advice: Always have 3 spells handy when charming creatures for tanks: Ensnare, Charm, Atk Spd Buff. I am now charming wooly rhinos and savage dire wolves to kill all the evil orcs here. And im gettin experience AND loot!
This zone is a bard's delight

Having just spent the weekend here I have gone from 38 to 44 in 2 days playing. Not only that but gathered a large amount of platinum in a short time.

Lots of open space to run around in so well suited to bards and druids.

Killed mainly using charms on rhinos and sending them up against ulthorks (then finishing off the Rhino once charm broke) or by running round in circles dotting with Tuyen's chant of flame, drum in hand meaning that twists with selo's accelerando are particularly effective.

Key Camps - Ry'Gorr Orcs by bridge to iceclad ocean. Simply lull the mystic in the centre and pull two centurions at a time either use charm to get them to beat each other down then dot or dot from start.

Ulthorks - between the two northern Coldain camps.

SW of Icefang camp - Ulthork Man o' War.

Now if I could find the easy way to get to cobalt scar and hand in all the tusks...

Only magic casters are snow griffons which are thankfully rare and so are easy to avoid.

Mammoths and Rhinos are about the only things that don't attack you (depending on your faction with the Giants and Dwarves they may or may not not attack).

As a 36 druid i love this zone.. it's the perfect zone to kite. as us druids always love to do. ;-) I got interested in the blue diamond quest here and decided to kill me some ulthrok.. :-) poor ulthrok.. i love going to the NE part of the zone. to kill them they spawn fast and you don't have to kill any dang walruss to get them to spawn. lol i'd say after every 8 to 10 ulthrok i get a tusk and i get a lot of velium weps, words, plat on the to getting 4 of those tusks.. i haven't got the blue diamond yet but i did get 250plat for my jacinth.. is that a good deal in todays bazaar rates?

Out of curiousity does the fames named snow bunny exist? If so EQ should make it druid usable.....that would be cool your Ulthork is down to 2% life and you unleash the bunny hoard upon him. Good idea for a weapon though....when does it proc? ;-)

I am conning the bunnies as we speak

I'm wondering if anyone has managed to clear out the coldain camp with loremaster derrin and the coldain missionaries solo. Using harmony/harmony of nature I have been able to clear out everything but the missionaries. The missionaries are so close together that I'm not sure I can single pull even with harmony of nature. Has anyone tried this? I am trying to complete the gauntlets of iron tactics quest.

Any info would be appreciated.

You can use harmony of nature to pull the missionaries singly. Invis, run to doorway and pick your missionary. Run around back of the huts to base of hill and cast Harmony of Nature. Do this to 2 of them, pull the 3rd with a DOT or Snare. These missionaries are very VERY hard. They can complete heal themselves and also port back to the hut. You can solo pull them, I don't know that you can solo KILL them. My 52 ranger and wizard friend had to kill tons of them for a Knowledge quest, and they were tough for us to duo. Still amiable in Thurgadin though....

Ok I logged in tonight where I was campeed in CC, right at zone line. I zone into EW, take fifteen strieds and BAM , I get summoned into giant fort where I am mashed into a fine white paste.

I look around. Bodies everywhere.

I didn't even start a fight with anyone. "someone" summoned everyone in the zone to giant fort and killed em.

sounds like an evil GM to me.

Oakwyn Bow
# Nov 13 2002 at 9:10 PM Rating: Decent
was hunting in the zone last week & a guy OOC's a message of this bow rotting on the corpse at a certain loc. unfortunately, the loc is all the way across the zone from where i'm at & can't get there in time to loot. the guy wouldn't tell me the mob he killed but said he had been there for 2 hours killing mobs. been there with no success & was wondering if there was a PH for the mob that drops the bow. there haven't been any listings of this bow on any of the sites, any information would br greatly appreciated. thx
RE: Oakwyn Bow
# Nov 28 2002 at 7:28 PM Rating: Decent
Don't waste anymore of your time looking for this bow out in EW. Someone was having a little fun with you. The name of the bow is Oakwynd. It used to belong to the brother of Lyirae Oakwynd. It was all part of a recent GM event called "The rescue of Firiona Vie" or something like that. Apparently, Lyirae (who was being played by a GM) sent everyone a link to the bow who attended the GM event. So when someone shouted that the bow was rotting on a corpse out in EW, they simply clicked the link that was sent to them at the GM event in OOC. To my knowledge, no one in the game actually has this bow..(it's something ridiculous like 150dmg, 20delay). However, the link to the bow was sent to a few people via a GM, so it would be rather easy to fool others into thinking that they own the bow...at least until they log. If someone actually does possess this bow, I'll believe it when I see it.

You were playing on the emulator. There is no way in hell you would have that bow. Secondly, if you were that high of a level you would have more than one bag, and you would have food. Third you can see someone /OOC'ing for GM status or something. Nice try, although you DO have it. You didn't get it legit.

Druid's Zone

I have found that i can get alot of exp without quadding here, the key is Beguil Animamls. First run to an area with alot of mammoths/rinos and snare one. Then back up and start casting beguil animal on it. Run to another mammoth (this is why you need lots of other mob around is your pet is moving at snare speed) snare the second mob and pull it to your pet (much faster this way). Once the 2 mobs are togeather fear the one that isnot your pet and sit down to med why they hack each other. This method is safer then any other method of kiting ive used so far. When the charm breaks back up and charm pet again (this is what the snare is for). when snare breaks of the pet just back up and kite it and or get a fresh mammoth/rino to charm. Works well have fun

May Karana's Rain wash you soul of sarrows.
Druid soloing/quadding
# Oct 14 2002 at 2:23 PM Rating: Decent
If there was anything on Norrath or Luclin that would make a druid thing (s)he was in heaven, the EW is the place to go. Quadding nothing but Ulthorks and Walruses took me from 40-45 in a matter of 2 weeks. Add in the fact that you could go to CS and get jewelry from the ulthor tusks? thats plan in your pocket. And seeing as noone can get their mitts on a blue diamond till at least the 50s, the Tunarean Soldier armor set has to wait. Or you could go quad ulthorks and maybe get the tusks which CAN lead to a Blue Diamond.

Theres my 2cp on the table.

You might be able to get a group at the Orc Fort, but thats more for getting pieces of armor than it is for experience.

Generally, this is a BYOG zone unless you plan on battling the quadding Druids and Wizards for Ulthorks.
Ogre Mercenaries?
# Sep 11 2002 at 6:16 PM Rating: Decent
I came accross 3 "Ogre Mercenaries" in the ruined houses that are normally guarded by Ry'Gorr and FG. They hit in the 80s and conned Lt. Blue to my 54 Druid. I proceeded to snare and kite them. One of the 3 was resistant and took 4 snare tries to land. It also resisted partially, if not entirely, every single LB I dropped on them save one. DoD from my ESV landed without difficulty and that's what finished the resistant one off.
Killing them raised CoV faction and lowered Kromrif, Kromzek, and King Tomax. No Coldain effect in either direction. They dropped velium weapons, "Mercenary Assignments", and "Kromzek Mercenary Brooch". The last two items are nodrop but not lore.
No clue what they're for. Perhaps something to do with a Jaggedpine quest since there's so much new stuff/quests with that zone.
Post any other info if you have it.
Death Squad
# Sep 09 2002 at 11:07 PM Rating: Decent
So many times ppl trigger the death squad and just leave them roaming. Not good if caught off gaurd by these guys.

On a number of occasions I get these guys killed by aggroing them and then running them through the coldain missionairy camp North and a little east of the dragon statue.

don't expect to be able to just stop and then watch the giants gettin killed. even with the coldain attacking them they will still come for you so just keep running so you are far enough away to cast gate. If you get target out of a range keep running for another minute these guys are fast and if you try and gate to soon they will be on top of you

TRI-Quadding
# Sep 09 2002 at 10:47 PM Rating: Decent
Thats right TRI-Quadding i am a level 43 wiz with an int of 244 (255 with KEI) A set of J-boots and KEI buff and I pull all the walrus and ulthork near the Kael Zone.

I never bother with BOF as it is a pain when resisted. I just run around aggro everything (flux) I see run em in circles to group them together then i target one of them in centre of pack and head north stoppin to blast every so often.

The trick is to nuke with COF run far enough away that when your poundin your spell and getting out of range message your meddin back some of the lost mana.

Try not to get to many Ulthork man o wars I can only kite 4 of them till OOM 2 man o wars and 10 walrus is perfect. At level 42 i was getting 1 gold and 2 blue each time i did this. Which wasn't very long 4 tri- quads and i get a level.

It takes a long time to do this so don't bother trying to circle back just follow the water and when you get to the coldain camp near the ulthorks north beach turn back ( no need to get adds from there) by the time you kill them all you will be seeing the triple peaks near the walrus south beach.

If it is loot you are after don't bother tryin this. there is no time to stop and loot anything but the last few kills. Total time per kite is close to 25 minutes with med time of say 10 minutes and another 10 for getting back and rounding them up it works out to almost an hour a session.

Another thing I have been doing is taking a freind with me here (Level 24 shammy) I would bind right in the corner of the zone near the tree and target an ulthork man o war I would then proceed to kill it(root/nuke) until it hits flight mode then i would gate out (nexus) and my freind would finish the job i would then gate back in and proceed to do the same again. my freind reports getting a smidgen under 1 gold per kill.

Update i am lvl 44 now and after collecting my new spells i am still doing this only now I am doing 16 at a time so would this be quadding a quad or what?

Ranger come ye to EW.
# Aug 15 2002 at 12:34 PM Rating: Decent
I came to EW as a Ranger of the 33rd season. I've hunted cougars, dire wolves and Kodiaks. This is a good place for rangers to practice there bridge hunting technique. Be on the look out for adds, otherwise solo here with relative ease for many levels. Dervish and Snogriffs are a pain in the neck, avoid those and you will rise in the ranks quickly.

Greetings everyone, my name is Qulitos Bunnyhunter, leader and creator of the guild Snow Bunny Hunters in the Quellious server.

I have posted this to warn everyone of the vicious nature of these diabolical creatures. They may look cute but they have taken over whole towns and brutally murdered the townspeople and drug the children out into the cold winter land to freeze to death!

If you see one of these KILL THEM! You will only do good by ridding the world of yet another Snow Bunny, please do not let them get away! DEATH TO THE SNOW BUNNIES!!!!

P.S. If you do not believe this is a real guild then please go to http://www.shackofbunnies.com/eq10.jpg

This zone has given me awesome xp as a Ranger, hunting mostly solo. I went from 37 to 40 in less than a week, just by camping at the base of the bridge to IC and fear kiting animals. Cougars, Dire Wolves and Kodiaks are embarassingly easy to kite and wander past the bridge all the time. I avoided mammoths and rhino's because they have too many hp's and resist A LOT!
Dangers to watch for are the ultra agressive Dervishes (you can probably take em but no Fear, so it means a lot of downtime after the fight) and Snow Griffins. The Griff's will own you at this level so if you see one, retreat up the bridge and wait for it to pass. If it aggro's you, then zone, no question. Also, many people pass through here doing the Coldain Ring and Shawl quests, so it is worth doing an /ooc if a Griff is up, as folks need the eggs they drop.
