I know about all the posts that say they know THE way to make him spawn, but here's MY way to make him spawn and it worked for me twice. Hope it works for you too ) Here goes:

Find a time when theres not a lot of people in the zone. Atleast not a lot of people killing things in the desert. Go to the buried ruins near the forrest line and hope theres a mummy (not a shrivelled or a dryboned one, but one that is harder to target and slash, he might have had a different name that I cant remember but you'll recognise him if he is there).
Anyway.. the undead inside the little tower. and kill it. If theres nothing there.. kill everything till it spawns and then kill it.

Dont kill anything else on your way to the Oasis zone and the Ancient Cyclops should be on the far left of the zoneline.

Jboots are still the favorite part of my equipment and I wouldnt wanna deny anyone the pleasure of such a great item, so I hope my way works for you too! )

This worked for me today, I stayed at the undead tower and killed the erudite necromancer that seems to spawn there every 3 minutes or so, and also all the undead in and around the undead tower until finaly at 6am game time I saw something odd.

In the Tower there was a mummy, but not an ordinary mummy, it was called "crypt mummy" not "a crypt mummy"...needless to say I killed it, and a few seconds later my bro was freaking out cause the AC spawned nearly on top of him at the derv camp on the opposite side of the zone from the undead tower.

felt a need to vent and warn all who decide to hunt ac in sro. been lookin for him for about 6 hours now, well make that was looking for him. i was against zone wall fair west in the sand when this huge, mamoth spider, appropriatly called Terrorantula pops in view. this thing was on other side of desert but could see it clear as day. so fm and pet good to go i decide to slay it, thought it could be ph, ya never know. well i go about my business, its feared doted pet on it its all good, when right ac walks right into view on the left. stuned i run over, figure root him or atleast throw a dot and snare and fear on him, sorta claim my territory, figured pet could finish spider. well omw some sk runs up and starts takin him down, wasn't about to ks though it sucked bad, not to metion fear had wore off and pet was dead from spider. killed it and now here i sit, medin up, and only person in sro. i told guild what happened they said that has happend alot, so to sum it up: don't let that damn spider distract you though its quite a site, stick to your guns and look for ac, spider is merly a distraction put in by verant to fubar my goals, best luck to you all.

MQ ing the Ring of the Ancients
# Jan 17 2003 at 6:56 PM Rating: Decent
Yes MQ means multiquesting. I have doen the MQ for J boots 6 times for guildies and only once sold it for profit.
Warning: If someone has broken the quest, that is, given pieces and Hasten has run off the last part given gets the boots. So if I give Hasten the rapier and ring and he runs off before I give the gold then the next person to give gold gets the boots. This may not be the person inteneded.

Here is how I do the MQuest:

I have the person who wants the boots give Hasten the Rapier ONLY and tell me. Then I give the ring and tell the person. Then he gives the gold. He gets the boots.

Each of us keep hailing Hasten to keep him from running off. It all goes very quick and I would recommend geeting it straight before you get to RM.
I know others do it differntly as posted here but this has always woirked, Ive always ued gold, I've always done it in that order.

As far as selling the MQ and running off I think you could petition on that and let the GM's handle it.
From What I Gather
# Jan 05 2003 at 2:56 AM Rating: Decent
The AC spawns in a couple different zones and you can spends 6 hours camping him and get nothing....

So I have a few questions before I do..
I believe MQ is multiquest... and I used to think that meant doing a quest multiple times because some of the items were not lore... but now I'm thinking its doing the quest with someone else... which is true?

I've see a pic of the ring that said NO DROP, but i saw someone selling it in bazaar.... is it no drop or not?

I play a bored Druid and often find myself at ends for something to do, and since soloing comes easy to me at 35, I'd try camping this guy just for the money i made on the ring...

I'm assuming that(camps);
OOT = certain Jboots, cause you can camp the 6 min spawn
Sro = gamblers choice because of KSers and no one REALLY knows about his PHs and such
EK = stupidity

Feedback?

You can't sell something that is NO DROP. What he was likely offering was to help you finish the quest by turning in his ring and allowing you to turn in the shadowed rapier and 3250 gold to complete the transaction. I am kind of iffy on these MQ deals because the other guy can take your money then not help you finish the quest.

I'm a 55 Mnk on Bristlebane (Dreemur). I spent an entire afternoon in Sro clearing spawns, SG's etc only to be in the wrong place when the Ancient spawned (twice).. with 18 other people in the zone almost constantly i was gettin a little.. er upset.
Rather than take my frustrations out on the zone I decided to go to OOT.. had heard of the place but never been.
As i got off the boat and rounded the island there in all it's glory was an ancient on the opposite island... a quick camp check revealed no-one was camping it!.. 45 seconds later I had my ring. Six minutes later Another Ancient poped... then six minutes later another! I made 2 other people in the zone very happy that evening LOL.
Don't get me wrong, that must be a very rare occurance and i have spent many hours since camping there for my new war charector.. but I thought you might like to share the story. Happy 2003 everyone.. and =say Hi in game if yer passing :)

# Dec 22 2002 at 3:30 AM Rating: Decent
Well the only strategy is to kill every damn thing in the zone and wait for the bugger to spawn. That's it that's all. I did that for about 3 hours and got the AC. I'm a 46 chanter and all I did was tash a mob let it hit me and then let pet take it out.

All you have to worry about in SRo is getting to the AC first when he does spawn. If you don't like those odds then just go to OOT and camp him there for about 8 hours or more.

Now that I'm lvl 44 and can solo the place holders in OOT, I've been spending a few hours camping it. This is way beyond camping the grimling runner in Tenebrous Mountains (which is about my only other camping experience.) Sadly, I've seen the AC before. When I was around lvl 12 and going to see the mage on the island to buy my spells, I was invis of course and a little scared that it would drop. Suddenly, the AC walks by but this being my first and only character I didn'd know what I was looking at. There was no one camping him and when I logged off later and spoke to my friend at school, he described the whole J Boots quest and that's when I realized how lucky i could have been. Oh well, at least the invis didn't drop :)

BTW, get yourself a digital watch and time the six minutes. That way you can do something else and just come back every now and then. It's much less boring that way.
My Experiance Camping AC
# Dec 01 2002 at 11:13 AM Rating: Decent
Yesterday,I was on a guild "camp" for the AC. Only 2 of us attending didnt have the Boots already,so I had a decent chance getting the ring. At 2:00 PM,we camped out at the AC island near sister island in OOT. After more than 8 hours of camping, the AC finally spawned after probably 120 cyclops,4 Bog Mudtoes,20 pirates, and 2 aqua gobbies. The monk in the group, not even part of the guild, stupidly looted the ring without rolling. After getting yelled at,he agreed to MQ it for the other gal that needed Jboots. The reason was because the monk was my RL friend that I brought along. =/ Figures, doesnt it? XD Oh well. I'm a 33 Pally. Could I take the AC spawn in Sro Soloing? Or should I bring a druid friend to help? Thanks for the help. Good luck on AC Spawn, everyone.

AC placeholders
# Nov 06 2002 at 10:20 PM Rating: Decent
The following site may be of interest to the AC hunters:

http://www.packetlost.com/ho/eq/sro

I was there with my some members of my guild (Jesters in Norrath) tonight on a 5 hour fruitless camp killing all the known rare mobs. After my friends had left I stayed for a little while just in cas there was a pop. 20 minutes later Terrorantula popped and was swiftly despatched by a level 51 druid. After another 20 minutes with no rare mobs (as listed on the above website) anywhere in the zone, the AC popped. I soloed it and killed it easily with a chaincast level 1 SNARE,level 5 GRASPING ROOTS and level 34 DRONES OF DOOM (Elder Spiritist armour spells). The AC was remarkably resistant to Fire DDs and Fire debuffs.

The only pattern I can discern from this is that there were no rare mobs up for 20 minutes prior to the AC pop.

I was just wondering if by killing EVERY on the sand. Dose this include the two derv camps as well?? And what is the normal time spent clearing the sands dose the AC pop? I have spent some time here helping others. Being a druid I no need the boots, but have a few guild mates that just might be interested. Would like some information.
Fun with AC
# Nov 03 2002 at 2:48 AM Rating: Decent
So yesterday, I figured I'd ***** the camp and buy the MQ, so I did. Payed 3k and a Rallic Pack, and got my Jboots. Well, my jealous friend said he wanted some now, and that he'd reimburse me for half of what I payed for the MQ to help him camp it. Figured that wasn't such a bad deal, so I went for it. The first night, we spent 8 hours in OOT, just to see nothing. Blah! If you're planning on camping the AC, do it in SRo if you value your sanity. We were at it for about 2 hours, and all was seeming glum. For a full hour, we didnt even see a sand giant. There was a named Desert Madman walking around though, can't recall his name exactly. I was thinking he might be one of the PH's, so I was about ready to pack up and leave, but my friend decided to stick it out a bit longer. In about 10 minutes, we had 3 Terrorantulas (sp?) spawn in a row, then BAM the AC showed up. Pulled him to the middle tents, and started laying waste on him. When he was down to about 75% HP, some druid came along and started chain casting Starfire to steal the kill (me and my friend being lvl 39 and 42). Thankfully, we got the kill, looted the ring, and got some laughs over the trash the druid started shouting because he wasnt able to KS us. SRo is definately the better camp, just be weary of KS'ers. Good luck everyone! :)

Had a few tries for AC in OoT, didnt see him at all. Talking to others camping him, it seems he doesnt pop after the patch of oct. 21. Have anyone else notoced this irratic behavior?

Im wondering if AC is just bugged, or they pulled him from the spawn table...

Nope, he's still there. I don't believe there is any rhyme or reason other than a straight probability table as to when he pops on the little island next to the Sisters. Camped about 5 hours today, 39 Magician and 47 Necromancer who had already gotten his boots from a SRo camp. We practiced baking and fishing for the Velious Shawl quests and suddenly there he was. He definitely still pops in the OOT, I've read that there is about a .33 percent chance that he will spawn each time, and I'd say after a few days of on and off camping that that's fairly accuracte.

He went down even faster than his placeholder cyclopses do.

After reading some of these posts I guess I got lucky. Last Night was the second time I camped the AC in S.RO. I had a lvl 35 druid with me and he literally trained / snared every creature in the entire desert area. We did this for about 15 minutes and got two SG's to spawn very quickly. Three hours of this continued Genocide got that Husam SG to spawn. After 4 hours the spiders and undead became ultra rare (ran around randomely murdering madmen -all those times they got me in oasis and n.ro), and Finally the damned AC spawned. Killed it and got the ring of ancients. I'm the third member in my guild to get the jboots. Every time he's been killed he's dropped the ring. What a pain in the rear to get this stupid mob to spawn.
P.S. he finally spawned at 6 p.m. eq night. Don't know that that will help,but...

p.s.s I agree with the other post that says he very easy to kill... you just have to get the danged thing to spawn. Was this mob ever an easy spawn to get? if so I wish VI would fix it and put it back that way.

FYI, took me ~75 hours of caming the AC in both SRo and OOT before I got the ring. Finally got him to spawn after my very lucky GF came and camped with me. Spawned at the SE corner of the Mage Tower island between the first boat stop and Sea Fury Cyclops island.

I've been standing around Sro for about a day now waiting on this stupid thing to show up. I run around killing everything in sight, mainly cause I'm bored. I want to finish Jboots quest sometime this century! Does anyone know for certain a way to get this guy to pop. If so, I'd really love to know how. I just think it's pathetic that here we have 10 people fighting over one mob! You'd think they'd make this easier, or a more common pop, then slap a few more components to give to Hasten. How hard is it really?

YEAH BABY! Got my JBoots today! His spawn is VERY long, I've waited for 6 hours. had to KS a 46 SK though (lol KS SK? get it? haha sorry..) to claim my 6 hours worth of waiting. The SK sent me a tell saying I'm a lamer and he was camping it first. I told him you can't camp a random spawn and he blocked me. Just a note, everyone camps it in SRo. your best bet is in OOT. People are respectful there, what it seems so. my boyfriend had to do the same thing; he KS'd all these other people. so word of the wise, GO FOR OOT!!!!! there might be a long line but it's WORTH IT INSTEAD OF TAKING THE RISK!!!!

Spawns, at least in OOT, are radom on a 6 min timer. All the placeholders do spawn there, but when the AC shows is totally random. Spent more about 3 hours waiting before he spwaned for us first time. Still waiting on 2nd.

KSing, hehe. After about 2hours 51 necro I believe it was, showed up in zone and ooc for camp check, my group responded with AC of course. Next cyclops spawns and i cast slow, send in pet and it gets hit with another spell a strats heading down the beach from us towards this other guy, we kill it and i politly let him know we need no help. He says oh, I'm here to camp AC, so I remind him thats what we are doing. He says I thought you were here for tainted. OK, good story since it dosen't spawn there. Then he says OK, so we agree whoever hits it first gets it. Ha! yeah right. After a few rounds of arguing and trying to KS he finally left. Necros are powerful, but he couldn't hang with 40 shammy/pet, 43 chanter/pet, 45 fast fisted monk and a 46 200+ backstabbin rogue. What does this have to do with anything, nuthin, just funny story i wanted to share.

My tactic on getting the AC to spawn has been extremely unsucessful, but I was told that my chances of getting a spawn are highest doing it that way. It's simply killing the undead mob in the tower at 8pm game time. Hasn't worked till tonight, but here's my story...
Yeah so i'm on my friend's 51 druid ******** around. Stop off at So Ro to see if the AC is up. No luck of course. Notice it's 7pm and why not try to prove my theory wrong again...So i kill the ghoul at 8 and head to the hill near merchants to track and scan zone. I see a SG in NW corner of zone and he depops. A couple of seconds later the named SG pops so i kill him. Seconds later SG pop on spawn of named spawn spot. Kill him too. Head back to hill to see minny terrorantula mob..kill it. Terrorantula pops, kill that. Then AC pops like right next to it and i claim my fortune.

This was probably the weirdest experience I have ever seen, how all them PHs as everyone claims them to be popped simultaneously after each other. Anyway, GL to all with AC and try my method cause it's worked once in about 1million trys..hehe
