Hasten Bootstrutter goes running through the zone. He stops when you hail him.

You say, 'Hail, Hasten Bootstrutter'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Stopped, I have. Greet you, I do. What business do we have? Hmm? Speak up!!'

You say, 'Journeyman's boots.'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Journeyman's boots are what you seek? Ha!! Those I have upon my feet and disintegrate will they if my life is taken. Extra pair have I, and, possibly, [rare trade] can we make.'

You say, 'What rare trade?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Three things I call for and journeyman boots are yours. A [shadowed rapier], [ring of the ancients] and gold... 3250 gold coins I call for !! This trade I call.'

You say, 'What shadowed rapier?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Shadowed men, foes to all, have appeared. Many lands do they walk. Invisible are they, but for the items they wield. Seek them out and return to me a shadowed rapier. Return it with haste before 'poof' goes the rapier!! No time to camp have you.'

You say, 'What ring of the ancients?'

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'Ancient cyclopes [sic] do march the land. Long have they lived and crafted the rings of the ancients. I must have one and you shall go and fetch one for me. Seek the lands of the oldest cyclops clans. Seek the plains, seek the island in tears and search the dunes for there is one who is last. His clan was blown from the sands.'

The Shadowed Rapier is a TEMPORARY item that drops from "a shadowed man," found in several zones. Since it's TEMPORARY, it's best to get this last. The Ring of the Ancients drops from "an ancient cyclops," found in Eastern Karana, Southern Karana, Ocean of Tears, and Southern Desert of Ro. In the Ocean of Tears, the AC spawns on the island between the sisters island and the seafury cyclopses. It is the only spawn point on the island other than the magician in the tower that sells spells. It usually has a Cyclops, although sometimes it will be a pirate, aqua goblin, or Boog Mudtoe. This may be the fastest spawn (relatively), but he is a higher level in this zone.

On handing in the rapier, the ring, and 3250 gold (any amount of cash adding up to this will do, e.g., 325 platinum):

Hasten Bootstrutter says 'The time to trade has come!! I am now rich and you are now fast. Take the journeyman boots and run like the wind.'

You receive your Journeyman's Boots. There are no faction hits.

anyone still doing this quest? I've been 2-boxing my ranger and warrior to get the meatshield the boots. I've been running rampant on the seafury island taking out cykes, killed only one named twice, and have been taking out Boog Mudtoe repeatedly. haven't seen any sign of a pirate or aqua goblin.

I'm going to get started on this quest. My necromancer is a follower of Discord and ultimately because I prefer to go around and PvP, I'm unable to get any buffs from players..... What a complete crock, yes?! So YEAH.... I need these **** boots.

EDIT: Still camping cyclops at OOT island (2000, -1700)
EDIT: Been camping cyclops 2 days now and still no sign of Ancient Cyclops. But there has been a Tainted, Corrupted Cyclops, and named cyclops thus far.

I just completed this quest today on Vox after camping the cyclops on and off for a week. Just keep clearing the cykes and eventually the ancient will spawn. Don't worry about Broog or goblins - the ancient used to spawn on a different island w/placeholders, but that's no longer the case. Good luck!

I am playing my level 33 wizzy and doing this quest using a merc wizzy. I killed stuff in South Ro for a couple levels and no luck. I have spawned him there with my higher toons but I don't have the mana at my level (using "old world gear and zones ONLY") to keep the area dead.

After reading these other posts throughout these pages and with my own experience, this is the way it seems to be:

1) To spawn the AC in South Ro, there seems to be quite a few spawn points from the northern area to the southern areas. The last time I spawned and killed him, I stood near the center of the desert area where the flat spot is. The flat spot is just east of the first hill north of the spires. I killed everything that pathed within casting range of that flat spot. Within 1 or 2 spawn cycles(roughly 18-20 minutes per cycle I think), I saw him just north of the hill I mentioned earlier and as he went around the west side of the hill. I watched to see where he was pathing. He walked up to the spires and stood there which is where he died too. As a lvl 33 wizzy, I killed all the mobs that came up to the spires for maybe 12-15 hours or more except the named madman was up and too high for me to kill. I never saw the AC. Maybe the Madman was his ph, I dunno.
At lvl 32, I went to Ocean of Tears to try my luck on the Cyclops Island. Allakhazam says the cyclops are lvl 36-39 and the Ancient Cyclop is lvl 40. When I got there, the AC was up and roaming on the side of one of the hills. Every "a seafury cyclops" on the island is a ph for him. I bound myself on the edge of the water at the druid ring (no mobs path there). I pulled him and killed him with my merc wizzy helping. The mobs here are resistant to fire nukes but the cold nukes hit full damage.

2) The Shadowed Rapier drops at all the shadowedman camps but it seems during the revamping of EQ some things have changed. I went to the shadowedman camp in South Karana and there were no shadowedmen to be seen. I waited for their spawn time and still no sign of them. It seems they are AWOL. If someone finds them in South Karana, can you post a location here please. I killed the camp in Commonlands but took 6-8 spawn cycles for me to get the shadowed rapier. There were up to 6 in the camp at a time so to break the camp I nuked 2 dead and ported out. Then 2 more and ported out. then came back and killed the last 2 spawns. Sometimes 4 would respawn and sometimes only one would respawn at a time. I used fire nukes and was rarely resisted.

3) As for Hasten, I remembered the last time I did the quest, I read the posts and found one that was very helpful. I followed the same advice from memory that I did then and achieved the same results.
From The Feerrott zoneline, run to the first crossing. The path goes right, left, and straight. Sit right there and face north. Kill everything that paths through there. The mobs will be coming back through that area again in 8 minutes. I have managed to get very close to Hastens actually spawn point but it is easier to just tell you to sit in the intersection and watch for him. Most of the time, I see his ph as the drake which is light blue or green con to me at lvl 33. Kill the drake and the ph will be popping over the hill again in 8 minutes which means his actual spawn time is about 6 minutes because he kills time up in that area before he roams out of it.
I gave him 325PP, the shadowed rapier, and the ring of the ancients and now have my super AC +1 boots with the 18 min run buff (instant cast time).

It seems Hasten has numerous ph's and spawn points. It seems possible that any roaming drake can be his ph and I am sure other mobs as well besides the named one like Brother Zephyl who drops the robe for monk epic and the other named mob I can't think of the name of.

I hope this info has helped people. Good Luck in your J-Boots questing. If you wanna contact me for help or just questions, look for Keebo(85 druid) or Snaap(33 Wizzy and growing) on Drinal/Maelin server.

The AC spawned in the Ocean of Tiers on the seafury island next to the old druid ring. I guess I got lucky because I just swam up to the island killed like two cyclops and bam saw him and killed him got the ring first loot.

For the shadowed rapier I sat at the shadowed man camp in the Old commonlands at the bottom left hand corner facing away from east freeport. took a couple of groups till one finally spawned that had it.

Hasten bootstrutter was just a matter of patience. From the feerrot zone at the crossroads I took a right to head towards the giants. I found "a drake" which is the PH of Hasten killed him and ran back towards the path where it opens up into the HG area. I backed up a few to get a good view of the whole path just in case. Sat there and waited till i saw the "a drake" come thur again. Kept killing him about 3 times until low and behold Hasten appeared. Ran up to him as he was walking so I did't have to chase him down, hailed him and gave him "The ring of Ancients" "Shadowed Rapier" "325 Platinum" and got the boots.

I haven't played since 2001 (or maybe 2002?) so a LOT has changed I'm sure, but I remember the Trivial Loot Code causing problems back in the day... Is it possible to get Shadowed Rapiers when the Shadowed Men are green or gray? And does the Ancient Cyclops still appear on his usual island across from the Seafurys?

I may play again and do this quest for old memories sake. :o)

Also, the trivial loot code has long since been scrubbed along with many other changer on FV. Now you can have 8 toons on FV and there is also a 50% full-time exp modifier for the server. They had a free - voluntary character move to this server in Feb.2011, but once there, you cannot leave. This was not a problem for me so I move 16 toons over there.

OOT=Ocean of Tears. So "OOT cyclops"="cyclops in Ocean of Tears", not Rathe. ;)

Cyclops island is the island with all of the cyclops on it. In the Ocean of Tears.

A Drake spawns at 2713.15, -2074.88 in Rathe Mountains... Got Hasten to spawn but didn't actually see him spawn... I apparently missed him running by me. After about 10 to 15 minutes of watching the spawn point for the Drake I went and checked the path. Only took me 4 or 5 A Drake kills to get him to pop.

Also killed Hasten for fun... Didn't drop anything and no faction hits.

If you sit in Rath, at cross-road leading to Freerot, facing the direction towards the Giants. Kill anything that comes from that direction. You will see him a ways off coming towards you. Gives you time to hail him and have your stuff ready.

He runs all over.
Whenever I saw him, it was the first left from zone-in near swamp, or over by gypsies.

Secret info:
At the time, he was the rarest spawn in the game, at a .06% chance to pop.
Kill roaming bears and drakes.

I found Hasten and his 2 PH's. Zone in from ferrott and go straight. Don't need to go to NEW giants area. When you hit a spot in the path where you can see the huts ahead stop. The 2 PH's and Hasten pop thru the mt side and head toward the huts and then return. Spawn time once one either dies or despawns is about 8 minutes. Also, Hasten does not run very fast anymore.

Hi All..

If your looking for the Shadowed Men on where they list them on most of the maps, they aren't there. I would guess that since the evil DoN camp is in the southwest corner now they needed to be moved! Anyway they are on the east wall of the zone north of the Najena zone in. Near where the east zone wall juts out just a bit west. (edit) Loc is Pos 874, NEG 1513 on top of a hill.

Happy hunting....

I have found there are a couple of different named mobs that spawn and I THINK they can spawn him. Its been ahwile since I did this quest, however I recall 2 different mummys. One of them was "A Sand Mummy" and the other was "A Mummy" The rest of them are always Crypt mummy though. After killing them I have seen Sand Giants spawn, which I am told can also spawn the cyclops.

AC in Sro, 20 kills so far in 3 years.
# Jun 02 2005 at 4:06 PM Rating: Decent
As many of the posts have stated, killing everything is important, even the snakes. I kill every snake I see as they are the hardest to find when they move away. Now something I have not ever seen in these posts. I was doing the cycle(s) one night and was closing on a Dune spider when something very wierd happened. It had stopped moving when I turned to close on it. As I closed the distance on the spider, it went Poof. So what does this mean, the cycle is a short lived thing, IMO. If you dont kill the mob that is next in the cycle, the cycle goes Poof. Now it doesnt happen all the time Im sure. And this wont apply to SG or the AC as I have seen them up for long periods of time, but on the lesser mobs like spiders and snakes and madmen.... Another thing for you Sro hunters, when Im running the cycle, I never kill the ruin temple mobs or the stat derv's, but I try to spread my pathing out to get all 4 corners of the sand area and hit F8 to try and get the ones that path into the walls. Sucks if you kill a mob on the west side of zone and the cycle spawns a mob on the east side and he roams to the east wall and poof your screwed.

Alright, Im going to tell you what we did as of 2/3/05, 10:30 real time.

Let me set the scene. It's just me and my friend Rygor, in Sro. People come in and out. I am a 36 mage, he is a 23 Warrior. We simply did the following, all times are in game time:

5pm-9pm: Random killings, spiders, undead, everything
9pm: The necro at the tower is up, kill him, then kill "crypt mummy" inside the tower
9pm-10pm: Random killings, killed necro and mummy in tower once more each.
11pm: Terrantula spawns, he is whooping our butts, luckily some guildies were in the zone so they came and killed it.
2am: I look over the hill just north of the tents, and low and behold, a giant cyclops running around with a spear. We simply meleed it to death, since I couldnt land a single nuke. He was very easy. When he was at 10% though, a sand giant came up and started hitting us, this is a problem. The AC is easy, but the giants are too strong for us. I run like hell, Rygor stays back, kills the AC, loots the ring, and sprints to Oasis, I gate out and we live to fight again. Now we are off to do the turn in.

MY SUGGESTIONS
--Kill any spiders, undead, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the guys at the sunken tower. Feel free to kill other things too, not sure if they are related or not
--We did not kill a single giant
--We killed the Terr. once
--Killed 2 Terr.-ings
--Spawned AC, simple as that.

I hope this is helpful, this is my second time killing this bugger. Now I need to do it twice more and Im done with him forever. Wish me luck.

--Side note, this is the same thing I did the first time I spawned him, stick with this and you should get him in no time, took us about 1-2hrs real time to get the job done.--

Follow up:

Rygor still has his ring, too lazy to get on and finish the quest, hehe.

I was trying to sell a stack of dyes one day, after auctioning for WTS, I offered to trade them to someone who would help me spawn and kill the AC, for my necro's boots.

Lucky me, a guy sends me a tell, and we head to Sro, during conversation I mentioned the item was called "Ring of the Ancients," to my suprise, the guy says his dad's character has a ring and he will MQ it for me, /cheer.

Long story short, I got the boots, he got the dyes, its been a good week for me. =)

Did the quest last night. Took me about 6hrs to do. The AC dropped the ring the first drop. Killed about 12 shadow men at the shadowmen camp in Lavastorm Mountains before i got the shadowed rapier. I then went to Rathe Mountains and killed about 3 Drakes and Maldyn. I kept circling the hill giant hill and didn't see em for about 30min. Then i sat and waited on the south side of the hill for him to pass. Waited about 2 min and then he ran by. He is a little hard catch even with SOW. Turned in the items and i used 325pp insted of gold and it worked just fine.

It might not depend on the following, but to get the AC to spawn, ran around before 10pm game time killing all undead and any uncommonly named mobs such as "a rattlesnake", "an asp", "a giant rattlesnake", "a dervish cutthroat" (not to be confused with "A Dervish Cutthroat"). No sand giants, insects, madmen, or kitties were harmed. I did not touch that necro with the pet by the buried tower after he popped, or the undead which spawned inside of it after 9pm game time. The necro with the pet was up before, during and after I killed the AC. AC spawned at approx. 3am gametime, just southwest of the tents in the middle of the desert. Conned blue to level 38 and was easy to take down in less than a minute. Had the ring and Fine Steel Two Handed Sword.

2. Shadowed Men. Ran over to Lavastorm and headed west to large camp of shadowed men. Pulled all to an adjacent peak and the most difficult thing about the fight was looting the corpses that had fallen awkwardly into the ground. Be sure to kill the casters first, and try to keep a snare up-- they bolt when they get low. Took three wipes of the moutaintop in order to get a shadowed rapier.

3. Hasten. There is a small passage to the southernmost area of the zone. Mob pathing goes right through the middle of this passage. Just watch for, and kill, "a drake", and "Maldyn the Unkempt". Though not quite as fast as Hasten, they travel the exact same path-- all you have to do is pretend to be the catcher and time your hail-mashing right. Running him down would seem completely wasteful to me (you don't need to have any SoW buffs), and if you miss him going by the first time, he'll make a return trip in the next minute. Hasten popped roughly six minutes after killing Maldyn. Six minutes between all PH spawns as well. Takes 325 pp, and just be sure to hand in everything simultaneously. Haven't seen Brother Zeph or whatever his name is, and if he is up, I've heard that he despawns in twenty minutes or so. Just hurry up and wait, I guess.

Based on all the incredible information from you guys, a necro and my bard narrowed down Hasten's spawn point. We tracked the "a Drake" to the northwest edge of the Hill Giants' hill around -500 2000 and witnessed 3 spawn points for it. While camping that spot over a dozen spawns, Hasten popped right in my face. He went north down the hill then hung a left and started to go around it counter-clockwise. We knew he'd head that way eventually and had the necro waiting. I managed to target him and the necro assisted me to target and intercepted him with a hail. I caught up a second later and held him for several people by hailing him non-stop. No idea where he went after that, but that's how we caught him on Brell.

Is Brother Zephyl really a PH for hasten? cause i tryed to kill him with my lvl 66 pally and i had a lot of touble was solo just me and my alt lvl 33 necro and he hit's for 100's to 400's and i dident have him slowed or anything so i just said the **** with it and zoned and he does summon you so do i have to kill him to get hasten to pop cause that just don't seem right that is a quest for like low lvl's how can a low lvl kill him?

Aye, unless you have friends, at 55ish levs, Zephyl is a place holder for Hasten and vice-versa. If Zephyl is up and you cannot kill him, you might want to do something else for an "extended" time.

Hi. Just recieved my boots. I did the questfor the first time twice over helping two others along the way. Took me 4 hours to help get 3 pair together (one pair for myself). Fun, yet frustrating.
Shadowed rapier.. not a problem. I get mine from Lavastorm mountains. takes 5 mins and had one in the spawns everytime. 350PP/3500Gold, i've done both now.
Ring of the ancients.. I didn't bother to read about others suggestions on this, So here is what I did.
Not knowing better I killed anything I could find in the SRO dessert. This included the named goul. Anything in the dervish Camps to west and east. and anything I found at the sunken spire looking area thats burried in sand. My main concentration was to kill the SAND GIANTS when I could get them to spawn, As I hear from a friend that these were placeholders for the AncientC
3 times the ancient spawned in the early morning hours of the game.. just before light each in game day being consecutive. each time in a seperate location. one of wich was very close to the DE camp.
ok enough about the AC's
As for the lil Gnome/dwarf or whatever he is I only tried to spawn him once.
Killed A Drake on the HG hill. And waited on the South side of the hill. Saw the lil guy fly by once.. all my friends running franticly to no avail to catch.. I walked down hill after killing giant and he made a second run by mot more than 40 Seconds later. I hailed him.. and kept him there for the other two to do the turn in. they used 3250 gold and had SOW =P I had 325 PP and now Sow. What fun.
Plan to get more boots for other characters. and a few in my guild asked about help. Sorry to all who have spent 15+ hours doing what took me 4 Max to do three times over. BTW I had no PP and spent part of that time killing HG's to get enough after learning of this quest. =)

Have fun.

Does this mean you can log onto another character and have this character give him the rapier and the pp? I have never done MQ before and this is my first time working on the Jboots. When you drop the rapier on the ground for your other toon how long will it stay their before it disappears?

I'm in the process of doing the JBoots quest on the Firiona Vie server and here are my observations so far... and a couple of questions. For Wizards who want to Quad-Kite, JBoots are one of our best tools. I've spent a lot of time trying to get them the old fashioned way (actually doing the Quest) and NO posts I've read so far seem to be 100% in keeping with what I've experienced.
Questions I'd like help with are in RED.

South Ro -
(Please note that there is no proof of any of these statements, just what I've seen with my elven eye...)
1) Ancient Cyclops will spawn between 4 AM and 6 AM Game-time. To get him to do so, any undead standing outside the temple/tower/undead-tower must be killed around 10 PM Game-time. Things that spawn in that spot are- Moldrak Drin and Pet, Crypt Mummy, Sand Mummy, Drybones Skeleton

2) Dervish Thugs seem to have nothing to do with his spawning.

3) Wandering undead may or may not be place-holders. I suspect that tower-spawned undead may wander off and roam the lands. If this is so, then Moldrak Drin spawns independantly of the undead that pop by the tower.

4) The Ancient Cyclops may not spawn if the Ghoul of Takish-Hiz is alive/un-alive.... (He is not easy for a mid-30's character to kill alone and has amazing regeneration powers.) If anyone has ever seen the A. Cyclops spawn with the Ghoul of Takish-Hiz roaming, please post it here if you don't mind. I would really like to know the answer to this.

5) Moldrak Drin is probably NOT a placeholder... but that is just my theory. He spawns very frequently and I think he was added long after this quest was created. Again, just a theory. Since he and the Ghoul of Takish-Hiz are parts of the Marr Ring quests, they both may not be placeholders. But they both exist in the lands at the same time so are not placeholders for each other. If anyone is fighting the A. Cyclops and can check to see if Moldrak is present, please post it here.

------------------------

Ocean of Tears -
(Please note that there is no proof of any of these statements, just what I've seen with my elven eye...)
1) The Ancient Cyclops is directly linked to placeholders here. I've read the time estimates of prior camps, and I wonder just how long it actually takes to get him to spawn. If some very powerful person wants to sit there and exterminate Cyclops(s,) could you do so and post how many you killed, and exactly what time (game-time) the A. Cyclops popped? I suspect that the A. Cyclops only pops at a particular time, and the placeholder Cyclops, Pirate, Goblin, and perhaps the Named Mudtoe Ogre must be pre-killed. I also suspect that 4AM to 6AM is that time based on South Ro. (I'd bet my staff that he only spawns at a particular time and only if there are no placeholders. This would explain the 72 hour estimates of camping time. It is very easy to miss the spawn window if you are resting from combat or just plain sick of killing one-eyes.)

I'll keep this topic updated for a while. Constuctive contributions to it would be a big help. PLEASE NOTE - I'm not trying to challenge anyone elses research, just prove or disprove my own. So if you disagree with me, please just show me where I have gone wrong. I think there is something we have all missed and want to figure out what is is.

In the 20 spawn's that I have seen, AC has spawned in every area of the sand, every corner and middle area. He is in the same cycle as the SG but he a rare chance, lets say the cycle is right to spawn a giant, random generater goes to work, lets say for a guess example, that 0 to 100 is generated and 96 to 100 equals AC and 10 to 95 is just a regular SG with 0 to 9 is the named SG. This is how I think the AC is spawning. Ive seen people there and ask them how long they have been running the cycle and what they have been killing, if they have seen any regular SG. Most of the time they are not see'ing any SG pop, I've even had that problem, but they also say they are not killing the snakes. IMO, the snakes are the key part of they cycle, they are the very hardest to see and if, like my other post on this sight says, the cycle is short lived, the snake will go poof and the cycle dies. If you are see'ing SG then, IMO, you are doing everything right to get the AC to spawn, its just the random generate didnt pop the right mob. Ive talked to people who have seen 2 or 3 AC's pop in Sro in less than 30 min., that is another thing that leads me away from a normal single PH'er for him and makes me lean more twords to a random thing within a cycle.

The AC spawns at +1000 x -8000 in the Ocean of Tears. Nothing else is around to agro, so you can sit there and camp him all day... if you're that patient/bored.
The spawn time is ~ 6 minutes. The place holders are cyclops, pirate, aqua goblin, or Boog Mudtoe.
I recommend swimming, fishing and forging to pass the time.

OOT still takes time. Took me 10 hours real time (luckily doing RL work inbetween). This works out, given 6 min spawns, 100 spawns before he popped in OOT. At least there's no unhealthy running about, I got plenty of fresh sea air, and my fishing skill is through the roof. There's even the merchant on the island to sell to. Just boring, I'm afraid.
what tower?
# Aug 13 2004 at 8:26 AM Rating: Decent
Where is this "tower" in South Ro? I have found nothing yet that looks like a tower. Is it anywhere near the wizard spire? Or is it that little ruined temple on the edge of the desert?

It is the little ruin. I've heard that it is also called a Crypt by some. I think it is the top of a buried tower. Probably one left over from the days before Solusek Ro destroyed the Koada'Dal lands that are now the Deserts of Ro. It does have what seems to be a hatch or trapdoor in the floor just inside. It does not seem to be openable.

Wow, I find this quite funny. After over a 2 year break from EQ, I came back. Made an SK and began powering, chose South Ro for the 10 - 13 levels, and as I turn around from cleaning out the derv camp who do I see but the one and only Ancient Cyclops.

Jboots have always been great, ever since I got mine on my old rogue from over a 20 hour camp I've been in love with them. Can't wait to get this pair on my SK.

EDIT: Wanted to add that he showed up about 5 minutes after we killed the named Taziz ghoul. So I believe that might be right, what one of the previous posters said.

I was running through South Ro on my way to the Oasis to kill Arthikus for the Marr's Ring of Piety quest when I bumped into the AC. He was dark blue to my lvl 33 Paladin so I gave it a shot. I had to use LoH but killed him without too much fuss and now the ring is mine.

Not bad considering I wasn't even looking for it!

To top things off I then killed Arthikus and he dropped the item I was looking for first time! I guess everyone has to have a good day once in a while...

J-Boots Update
# Jul 28 2004 at 6:13 PM Rating: Decent
Greetings All;

I spent the last 27 hours out of 31 hours doing this quest. Then ... during my 4 hour break, I found an article posted below somewhere that made sense. After following the technique by "TheTrueMarrob" I aquired the AC Ring.

1) Camp AC in Southern Ro.
*) Camp only between 8P and 5A in Game Time. (at Night, my spawn at 5A).
a) Kill Undead Spawn inside Tower.
b) Then kill all of the undead that you can get to that stands on SAND. (I killed Named Ghoul, Takish-Hiz and it spawned AC after the next tower kill.)
c) I ignored all other mobs except Named Ghoul and I made shure that there were no Dervish THUGS. (kill Dervish Thugs).
d) Yes I killed Necro with Pet at tower, but only after I killed spawn in tower.
e) AC spawned after killing amed Ghoul, Mob in tower, and mob outside of tower (mummy). These must be triggers.
f) One hour to pop after finding this technique. Two hours to finish the rest.

2) Get Shadow Man Rapier from South Karana, -4500, +2900 or WEST of Split Paw. (Get Quillmane while your there - see my post on Quillmane Quest - and remember the Rapier is NO RENT so dont log).

3) Catch Hasten Bootstrutter, you will need fast person that can track.
a) Kill "a Drake" to start spawning.
b) Next came "a Drake".
c) Next was Maldyn the Unkempt, I killed him (light blue at 49, No Faction).
d) Then came Hasten - a Druid caught him for me (Woodeye on Tribunal, TY WE).
e) They spawned from different location around the immediate vicinity or Hill Giant Top. They all take the same route. They all head toward Lizard encampment and then bare to the right. Hail Hasten - DO NOT kill and tell your Zone DO NOT kill. But they can kill the otheres.
f) After getting a buddy to help continue Hailing, GIVE ALL 3 ITEMS at the same time. RAPIER, RING, 3250 GOLD pieces.

Enjoy!

Sorry about the "Typo's" (above) but I was literally asleep at the mouse.

Note...

1) Camped South Ro for 40 hours in all this week trying to get a spawn. This technique worked for me big time.

2) Camped OoT for more than 40 hours over 5 levels to get spawn 1 time ... I ran off to heal using Paladin Spells ... He DESPAWNED on me. (At this time I uninstalled the game and have just now returned to play 12 months later. Yes I was more than mad.)

3) Killed "a Drake" each time it spawned.

4) There is another potential spawn after Drake and Hasten and Maldyn ... Brother Zephyl (I did not see him, but I heard he is high level so be careful. CON first, attack second :)

Good Luck and remember always carry along a Dwarf with you, they are small and sturdy. But more importantly, they make great mob distractions.

In Sol A, you can buy Travellers Boots from the same gnome that sells Tinkerer Bags. I believe they cost 5250pp with max charisma, same as the bags. The only difference is that Tboots have a casting time, so you cant click them while running (unless you are a bard).

I have been searching for this quest for a while now and i have finally found it but here are some things i am very confused about

1.. you see him running in rathe and u hail him and say all the things to get the quest started blahh blahh blahh.

2.. then you get all the pieces the AC ring the shadow rapier and then u give him the money

3.. but what i do not understand is why i see people post it on this website that they droppped the rapier on the ground first it is very wierd why dont they just give it to him lol??

4.. Also i have heard of the 325gp 10x method or the straight 325 pp which one works??

5.. i wanted to know in order what do u give him first to complete the quest??

6.. and last i have heard that after u give him the money he runs away from u and u have to catch him again to get the boots is this true?

can someone please help me i always wondered which methods worked best please post A.S.A.P
THANK YOU

PS. if you look up on the quest on the very top of the page it says you give him the money he talks like yoda and runs really fast will he give you the boots before he runs away or do you have to catch him ?????

These are the only steps I do for this quest. No other steps are necessary. This is the order I do them in too.

1. Get the Ring of the Ancients from 'an ancient cyclops'. More common and easier kill in South Ro desert but have killed him a few times in Ocean of Tears on the island west of sister island.

2. Go beat on shadowed men until you get a shadowed rapier. Click on link above for their locations as there are quite a few of them. I tend to go to the West Commonlands camp myself. NOTE: This is a NORENT item so it will disappear eventually when you log.

3. Grab moola. 3250gp is what he asks for. See my post below about that. He WILL take 325pp.

4. I park the toon I want to have it in Rathe Mountains. Or tell a buddy to sit there afk until I get him to spawn.

5. Get a tracker (I use my druid) and wait for his spawns. PH's are 'a drake', 'Maldyn the Unkempt', and 'Brother Zyphel'. Drakes are fairly low and maldyn doesn't give any faction hits for killing him. Brother Z needs some high lvl peeps to take out. Best to just come back the next day. Doesn't seem to despawn like the other PH's do.

NOTE: You don't really need a tracker. Hasten and his PHs all follow the same path. Do what I did and follow him around for a spawn. Makes life much easier.

Hasten and his PH's have 3 spawn points. 2 of them just sw and nw of the building on top of HG hill. 1 on the sw lower part of the hill.

6. Either have SoW or hope you can catch him on the path run. You could nab him on the hill but I don't recommend it as HG adds tend to be annoying. Hailing him is the only way to get him to stop moving (besides attacking, snaring or whatever of course then ya can't do the quest). Once ya got him stopped keep hailing him periodically whilst you move your alt, toon, buddy, customer over to where hes at.

7. Chances are your MQ (multiquesting) it and if so just give the ring to Hasten first and have the person who you want to have it give the last 2 items (shadowed rapier and 325pp). Let me repeat that 325pp does work. I didn't try it for a long time because I didn't want to risk it. If your worried, bring 325pp and 3250gp. Thats what I did. Once you try the pp method and are confident it works you wont bother with gp again.

Voila your toon, alt, friend, customer now is slightly speedy for limited amounts of time whenever they want as long as its cast outdoors.

**EDITED** I have done 14 MQ jboot turn ins 11 using the 3250gp method and 3 using the 325pp method. Got the boots every attempt. My last one I did yesterday (08/07/04) was using the 325pp method.

Did the quest today for an alt on 2nd account. Wondered about the 325pp method so decided to give it a try today (done it 10+ times with the 3250gp method). Gave the ring with my high lvl druid, then the 325pp and shadowed rapier with my low lvl alt. Received the jboots no problem.

Following the SMASH ALL UNDEAD rule of thumb, I was able to spawn the AC 3 times, on 3 consecutive EQ Nights. Each night he spawned between 12am and 2am. Not sure iof this is a rule or just a coincidence.

The first time is the only time I didn't kill him, although i did spawn him. I was on my level 22 alt, and we just happened to kill a crypt mummy to try and get a weapon. We killed him and then headed east, the AC spawned directly on top of me. I ran to zone, tried to log my Druid on, but my client crashed, and 5 minutes later when I logged back in, he was gone.

But now I was **** at Sony for making such a crappy game that it would crash and cost me something like the AC.

So I kept my druid, waited for night to roll around again, and with the aid of BoBo, slayed EVERY SINGLE UNDEAD in the dessert area. At about 1am, the AC popped again, in the exact same spot. Well now I was happy, I got my ring, and was telling the guild and friends. Then my best friend logged in and we did it again. Same procedure, same spawn spot, same time.

I did kill every undead in zone, but before each AC spawn i did kill one of the "strange named" undead mobs, a crypt mummy, shriveled mummy. Although I'm not sure Shriveled mummy counts, they would spawn 3 or 4 at a time for me, so not that rare. The other "named" would ONLY spawn 1 at a time.

Also, the AC spawned In his OWN SPOT. He ALWAYS SPAWNS in the dead center of the valley in teh NE corner of the zone. All 3 times he pops about 50 feet in the air and falls to the vally, it's so deep, you can't see him in it until he walks up and out of it. Unless you are in it waiting for him like me and my friend. Since he spawned there 3 times in a row, I would say it's safe to assume that is his spawn. I've never seen lesser mobs spawn there.

Actually, ive seen him spawn on the far east of the desert, near the dark elfie camp and the far west. Dunno why it did the same for you every time. I tend to watch the dark elfie camp since they WILL kill him (and im not happy about that one time they did).

I tend to focus on just killing the rares in the desert. Sometimes the spiders too when im feeling ambitious.

325pp not guaranteed to work!!
# Jun 24 2004 at 9:05 PM Rating: Decent
I went to Hasten tonight to get my JBoots. Had the rapier, the ring of the ancients, and 325pp (which quite a few people here have said works). I should have known better though. He spawned, caught him, gave him the rapier, the ring and the 325pp, and NOTHING!! No GM online to petition either. But regardless, he/she probably would have told me I did the quest wrong and wouldn't have helped me.

It's not the end of the world, but it's VERY FRUSTRATING!! Unless you want to risk losing your stuff, DO NOT USE PLATINUM!!!!

PP works fine instead of GP; I've always used PP when a quest called for GP and it's always worked including this quest. There must be a different reason why your turn-in failed.

The torn parchment replaced the jboots that used to drop in najena, it is something that directs you to this quest for those that thought it could be found in najena. Its not needed at all to do the quest.
Failure

SOE SUCKS! This used to be a game in which the programers took responsibility for using us to trouble shoot their code. Hence the reason behind the GMs and the petition proccess. Now, there are few if ANY GMs on - and the automated set up allows them to fix the error and **** the player even further.

IF you give hasten MORE than 3250 in gold, by so much as a single gold coin, he keeps it all. HAve fun going after another AC ring 32+ hours.

The speedy gnome will stop after you Hail him successfully. I timed it and he turned and left 1:20 after the last Hail. So this is how long you have to work between Hails, 1 minute 20 seconds.

I parked the receiving character at the spot in the pass where I expected to catch Hasten. With my other character I hailed the gnome, turned in the ring, dropped the no-rent shadowed rapier on the ground, then sat and Hailed him as I camped. Immediately logged in the receiving character, picked the rapier up off the ground, turned in the rapier and 325 PP, and received my new booties. It's risky but it works.

The turnin to Hasten Bootstrutter can fail. I've done this quest many times and had one failure at turnin. The player we had set up to get the boots had Spirit of Eagle cast on her to help her catch Hasten. When we got him stopped and did the turnin she was in front of Hasten but high above him. When I turned in the ring and she turned in the shadowed rapier and the gold she got nothing. With this in mind you probably should have any lev spell clicked off before you do your turnin, I lost the ring and she lost her gold.

The lev is probably not the reason for the failed turn in (not saying it isn't possible), if the trade window opened it should be ok. It is more likely that it failed because it was multiquested... While multiquesting does work sometimes it is not supported as far as SoE goes and CS will most likely laugh at you if you petition about it.

I am all for MQing to save time but go into it knowing I am risking the turn in items.
OLD Days on RZ
# May 05 2004 at 6:58 PM Rating: Decent
These things were the source of endless conflicts on RZ in the old days...

The camp for the AC would be a free-for-all spot. NO ONE held the locations for very long. Corpses everywhere in SRo and OoT.

Once you had the ring, you went to cash in the ring and rapier AND 3250gp in Rathe Mountains. You can't run very well with 3250gp on ya, you know? PK's would just sit and control the entry points into Rathe and pick you off. EASY 3250gp. That was when 3250gp was ALOT of money. Nowadays it ain't caca...

But if you perservered and had a pre-nerf pumice (a crystallized pumice!) you were GOLDEN against getting rooted, snared and killed. You just kept clicking away on the pumice and the boots and ran ran ran.

Good ol' days indeed.
He doesnt spawn in SK or EK

The AC never spawned in SK and they removed the EK spawn point as it was linked to the Magician epic, hence he spawned a whole lot.
