If you are looking for the AC these days, he's been moved to seafury island. It appears to be random from any of the cyclops spawns.
still exists

Just killed the ancient cyclops in OOT after clearing the island 1 time. He popped at loc 2408.73, -3501.48, -291.57. He dropped the Ring of the Ancients.

Funny how theres 3 or 4 spawn sites and ppl never mention which one they are camping:) In OOT since the february 2007 TBS expansion the AC has moved to seafury island. camped the AC island 25 hours and no pop. a mage on seafury island let me know he had killed the AC 3 times in the last couple of days. mudtoe on seafury island may have as many as 20 alts up at same time. my 51 warrior with skinspikes killed em with virt on and it took about 15 min:( hes killed mudtoe a few times withoug spawning AC on seafury island:( not sure mudtoe is the PH now:(

Alright, Im going to tell you what we did as of 2/3/05, 10:30 real time.

Let me set the scene. It's just me and my friend Rygor, in Sro. People come in and out. I am a 36 mage, he is a 23 Warrior. We simply did the following, all times are in game time:

5pm-9pm: Random killings, spiders, undead, everything
9pm: The necro at the tower is up, kill him, then kill "crypt mummy" inside the tower
9pm-10pm: Random killings, killed necro and mummy in tower once more each.
11pm: Terrantula spawns, he is whooping our butts, luckily some guildies were in the zone so they came and killed it.
2am: I look over the hill just north of the tents, and low and behold, a giant cyclops running around with a spear. We simply meleed it to death, since I couldnt land a single nuke. He was very easy. When he was at 10% though, a sand giant came up and started hitting us, this is a problem. The AC is easy, but the giants are too strong for us. I run like ****, Rygor stays back, kills the AC, loots the ring, and sprints to Oasis, I gate out and we live to fight again. Now we are off to do the turn in.

--Kill any spiders, undead, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the guys at the sunken tower. Feel free to kill other things too, not sure if they are related or not
--We did not kill a single giant
--We killed the Terr. once
--Killed 2 Terr.-ings
--Spawned AC, simple as that.

I hope this is helpful, this is my second time killing this ******. Now I need to do it twice more and Im done with him forever. Wish me luck.

--Side note, this is the same thing I did the first time I spawned him, stick with this and you should get him in no time, took us about 1-2hrs real time to get the job done.--

Follow up:

Rygor still has his ring, too lazy to get on and finish the quest, hehe.

I was trying to sell a stack of dyes one day, after auctioning for WTS, I offered to trade them to someone who would help me spawn and kill the AC, for my necro's boots.

Lucky me, a guy sends me a tell, and we head to Sro, during conversation I mentioned the item was called "Ring of the Ancients," to my suprise, the guy says his dad's character has a ring and he will MQ it for me, /cheer.

Long story short, I got the boots, he got the dyes, its been a good week for me. =)

i walked into south ro desert at 38 stood there ran around maybe 5 minutes the Ac was standing right in front of me I killed him took his ring he had 6pp and 100silver on him he died fairly quick he only has about 1200hp he was a fairly light mob .
# Sep 12 2004 at 2:35 AM Rating: Decent
I found it fairly easy to spawn the AC. First thing I did was kill all the undead around the undead tower. Then looked for any giant around and killed them. oh yeah and killed that named goblin too, everyone who says they did it killed him so i did too.

LoL now i'm having trouble getting a rapier...seen lots of scythes...any chance that's the same?

Nope, you deffo need the rapier. Try killing the warrior shadowmen - they dual weld so you have a higher chance at getting the rapier. Oh & it does look like a fencing foil so easy to spot.

Sat in OoT for like 15min and he spawned.
RE: Fast.
# Sep 11 2005 at 6:34 PM Rating: Decent
If I remember right OoT is a 30+ hours active killing of the PH'er to get him to spawn. If you killed him in 15 min. then someone must have quit killing the PH'er just short of his spawn time or you were the first person after a patch to kill the PH'er which with set to be very short to spawn the AC.

Yes, this is 2 years past your post .. but i've been playing WoW instead /wink.

I'm sorry to tell you but your "memory" did not serve you well. The AC, at least in OOT, is/was a random spawn. I personally have killed it three times in a row while camping for alts. Other times, I have gone for literally days without seeing anything but place holders.

I just recently returned to the game and am gearing up my 4th acct. So I came here looking for relevant and current posts ... seems the game following is fading.

I have to wonder if the spawn has been changed on the AC because in 5 years of playing (and admitedly not much looking) I have seen/killed the AC a total of One time. Now, in the last week, my wife has been
playing in S Ro and has seen Three of them, 2 of which she killed (so now 2 of my characters have Jboots) and 1 of which she had me kill, so one of her characters could have them.

Either the spawn changed, or she and I have been extremely lucky...whichever, we are loving the boots! :D

Could be that, or perhaps hes just less in demand.

I was killing seafurbies one day in OOT trying to spawn tainted for my epic, and the cyclops had been up earlier, I didn't even have enough mana to keep furbies down so I wasn't messing with him. Anyway, he somehow depopped and popped the AC. So I just strolled on over and grabbed the ring and went back to working on my epic. That never used to happen, having camped him with a few different friends a long time ago.

I killed the AC twice in one real life day. I had camped my player in Sro just before a patch and was one of the lucky ones to be first to get on the server. When I logged into Sro and looked around the AC was up and walking around. I killed him and looted the ring. I then moved my 6 lvl necro into the zone and camped him on the south wall and messed around with my main for a short while. Had to go to work second shift. I got off work and was still in Sro. Started killing mobs while talking in guild chat and within 15 min. the AC popped again. I pulled him to the south wall and killed him again. Logged my 6 level necro on and looted my second ring in one day.

Does the bloody AC still spawn? I have either REALLY bad luck or he doesn't spawn any longer. Was killing everything in sight with my 55 mage in S Ro for like 5 hours with no AC spawning. Then I have spent like 5 days, 6 hours each in OOT at the single spawn area.

Man I hate this camp ... just wondering if they stopped his spawn while they had the "fabled" mobs running around.

Ok, not sure about this ph thing. Camped him one night on Mithmarr, and as a 62 bard with aoe songs, literally killed EVERYTHING in the vicinity of the sand area (minus the dervs). I would snag 10-15 at a time using my fists, and then use melody of mischief, denon's bereverment, and Chords of Dissonance to kill every one within 20 seconds. I killed all the "placeholders" that were on track, and then some. Could someone help me here? Also had my brother on his 57 ranger running around assisting with the slaughter, and at one point ran out of mobs to kill, te he he.

the only place with known PH is in OoT jsut west of sister island .. PH is either "a Pirate" or a named ogre (whimp) .. just kill everything till he spawns .. took me 14 hours at the camp

LOC of spawn is POS1120, NEG 7950 ... as a suggestion .. if pirate pops - Just wait for despawn on them .. else u become KOS to pirate camp in IC .. ( makes 8th shawl quest interesting if you ever need or want to do it)

This is soooo wrong. The "A Pirate" is on Pirates of Gunthak faction, not Pirates of Iceclad. I killed the "A Pirate" in OOT many many times, and am on very good faction with the gnome pirates in Iceclad.

Pirates of Gunthak faction starts out KoS to all anyway, so you don't really lose any real faction with anyone.

We had camped the AC off and on in south ro before. Saw it twice. Once in north east
corner of zone, but someone else got him.
Other time was by the dalk elf merchants.
Since they had hit him once, we lost loot.

Yesterday I went to sro to farm some essence of
sunlight and the AC was up.

He was by the wall near the undead tower.
Don't know if it is related but the zone
had lots of spiders at the same time.

Did not get the time of day in game.

I just found out that not everyone is a kill stealer in SRO. I'm a 39 warrior, and grouped with a 39 beastlord to kill 2 SG's that were up in SRO, we were gettin hurt pretty bad so we decided to go to POK to get clarity for him and temperance for me. We zone back in and what do we find?...........The AC is up!! =) we took him down with hardly a scratch on either of us. The best part about the whole deal is that Clawslice, (the beastlord) was one of the coolest people i've met. He agreed to do a /random 100, highest # wins, to decide who got the ring, he rolled a 19 and i rolled 48. I got the ring and couldn't be happier. THANKS for being a great sport Clawslice!!! =)

I got the J-boots yesterday on my own and solo'd the Ancient Cyclops EASY. He didn't bring me down past 70% of my HP. Considering he was a dark blue and dropped 30pp that's a pretty sweet deal.

I'm not a tweak either! Earned everything I use. He was in South Ro, but didn't spawn until about 12-1am.

Not to gloat, I'm just so darned happy -- I ran my 52 cleric out to SRO and the AC showed up in five minutes! Got the ring.

The thing I wanted to tell you is that there is no clue as to when he spawns or what kills will precede his appearance. I've read them all and in my case he spawned just BEFORE the Terrorantula (or whatever the named tarantula is called,) and not after as has been reported.

Good luck!

I went to OOT to hunt Seafurbies and wasn't going to try for the AC camp since the servers were scheduled to go down at 6am EST and it was already about 2:45am. After hunting for about an hour the guy that had the AC camp announced he got his ring and the camp was now open so I thought, what the heck, and decided to take it. As I approach the island I see the shape of a clops appear out of the rain and mist so I conned him. I was absolutely stunned....the AC had actually spawned twice in a row and the other guy had already left. In under 2 minutes I had my ring and in amazed joy announced that once again the AC camp was open. I've never heard of the AC EVER spawning twice in a row but I guess when they say he's a random spawn, they mean it!!!

AC down
# Sep 22 2002 at 8:27 AM Rating: Decent
Hey there so you want to camp the AC. Well good luck. I have camped him twice both times i used the same way to hunt him down.

1. Be sure hardley no one is in zone. Best time to do this is earlier in the morning. I am on Japan time so it is great for me to camp him when i get off work. Do it on a weekday less people on then.

2. Be sure to have a class that can track. It will save you much time.

3. Kill all rare spawns. Things that have differnt names than everthing else like "dessert madman" not "a dessert madman"

4. Kill the sand gaints.

5. Both times i have done this he spawned right after killing hussen. A named Sand Gaint

5. Both times i have gotten the ring it took 2-3 hrs of camping. So be ready to wait for a while.

Rather than chasing Hasten all over creation, the easy way is to have a ranger or druid track him. When they find him, they ensnare him and bring him back to you. Don't be grouped when they do this.

He's darned fast, so a druid with sow and track is perfect for finding him.

How to spawn the AC
# Aug 22 2002 at 5:09 PM Rating: Excellent
51 posts
Ok, I've done this quest 23 times, either for my characters or friend's characters. So, let me give you what I've found out:

South Ro: Easy spawn, easy kill, high chance of KS, unfortunately. Best time is to do it late at night (real night) or very early morning (5am) when fewer people are on. The AC is substantially lower in level and hp's here than in OOT -- a level 35 caster or 35+ melee should be able to take it down.

To get it to spawn in SRo, kill the rares: a crypt mummy, a madman a giant rattlesnake, etc.. Otherwise, it's completely random. When you kill a rare, another rare spawns fairly quickly, so the more rares you kill, the better chance you have of getting the AC. I've done this about 10 times, and have gotten the AC to spawn within a couple of hours every time just by killing rares. Time of day, time of night, whether there's a SG up or not doesn't matter. Just kill the rares.

OOT: Hard to get the camp, much higher level, but very little chance of ks'ing. People respect the camp here, and I've only seen one case of ks'ing in all the time I've been in OOT. Spawn is every 6-7 minutes (I say that because it used to be 7 minutes, but seemed faster the last time I camped it). When you zone in, check to see if he's camped (probably is) and get on the list. Spend your time killing seafurbies while you wait. Best times to find the camp empty are early morning -- 5am is perfect.

Keep killing ph's, and you'll eventually get him to spawn. PH's are: a cyclops, Broog Mudtoe, a pirate, a aqua goblin (although a cyclops is much more common than the others). I've done this camp solo as a 48 mage, 45 druid, and 49 wizzie. Other times, I grouped with guildies to help them get the ring. If you can kill a seafury, you can kill the AC. If you can't, then go to sro.

East Karanas: I've seen him here twice, and both times someone was killing cyclops just prior to his spawn. My suspicion is that he's keyed off of the Broon, Droon, Proon cycle. However, given how many different types of critters are in the zone, it's possible that killing rares will spawn him.

The two times that I've seen him, he's seemed to be the same level as the sro cyclops, but neither time was I able to do more than con him -- he went down to people camping druids. However, that alone tells me that he's not seafury level (since the druid camp is really only good up to 29 or so).

Good luck!

Lol I probably sound like a newb but this is my first char and only being level 42 I still have a lot to learn. What the **** does MQ mean and what does it do?

MQ refers to Multi Quest. Multiple people can gather items for a quest and turn them in seperately. The last person to turn in the needed item will obtain the quest reward. Haven't read down the rest of the postings yet, so sorry if info is repetetive, but Ring of the Ancients pertains to Journeyman Boots quest and is able to be MQ'd.

Walk into the zone at night fall and hope he pops, if he don't come back next night fall, random night time pop. Seen people do all the little pos tricks and it doesn't spawn and then no one does nething the next full day and it spawns and vice versa, so just wait with a tracker

Sorry, that's definitely wrong. He is a random rare spawn. Day or night doesn't matter.

I've gotten actually decent at getting him to spawn... his placeholders are rares: a madman, a crypt mummy, etc. Rares spawn pretty fast, so if you keep killing them, you'll get him to spawn eventually.

By killing rares, I've gotten him to spawn every time within two hours of starting. However, the big problem with this zone is the ks'ing. There's enough high-levels porting in and out that if someone happens to see the AC before you do, they can burn him down faster that you can try to type, "The AC is mine!"

I know this is extremely late but I just camped the AC in SRO the other day and had a problem with another guild trying to get it at the same time, i camped from 7pm est till almost 4am est, killing everything in sight, espescially the rares. Took almost 9 hrs for the **** thing to spawn and when it did the other guild was gone but a random necro saw it and killed it, not really needing the ring. However, he was nice enough to MQ with me and 2 hrs later, 11 hrs after starting to camp in SRO and 12 hrs after signing in, I had my journeyman boots and boy are they sweet to have when you have no SOW. Late at night my time, OOT is sometimes empty for campers but I had good luck in SRO as long as you are willing to spend lots of time there and can get your guild or lots of your friends down there to help, KS'ing shouldn't be too much of a problem. but yes, always have a tracker! or you will not get the AC.

After 3 weeks of camping this creep in South Ro, a level lost, and a server crash; I finally got him to spawn yesterday in South Ro and thanks to my friend Redvalan 45th Druid of Guardians of the Crystal Rose (Solusek Ro Server) we took him and SG Husan down in record time. It was right after the Server crashed, however he was owned and victory was claimed. Now to find Hasten ;-)

Is it possible to MQ the jboots with one you alterate characters. If my druid gives Hasten the ring and a rapier can I then camp and log on my enchanter and give him the gold and get the boots? Has anyone ever done this?

Yes this is possible you just need to have a friend there hailing him until you get both chars in the same spot, and so he can keep hasten around while you switch. Just make sure no one is around besides you and your friend when you do it...

I was wondering if there was a way to duplicate this ring for a friend? someone told me about a chain ring quest, wich will let you duplicate the ring so you can have two and give one to your friend. I know it's lore but I was wondering if that quest would remove the lore on it? I don't know. Another friend told me that the quest just let's you give the ring to another person then you lose it so no jboots for you and you have to hunt for the ac again. (And yes I know it's no drop to) Anyone with info about this chain ring quest, please let me know, like wich zone it starts in, who you have to speak to and so on and what it does to your ring. Thanks. Just got the ring this morning after only camping for it for two days. I'm pleased and don't want to lose it.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of the Coldain ring quests in Thurgadin?

You can redo the previous quests to get a "set" of the rings ie., you can be wearing the 8th and 9th ring.

Just wondering if that is what you may have heard about.

Yes, on 03/20/02 I successfully MQed this. I first gave Hasten the Ring of the Ancients, and then my friend gave him the Shadowed Rapier and the 3250 gold to receive the Jboots.

Ok First, I play on the Fennin Ro server. I have hunted and helped kill AC 10-12 times in the 2 years on that server. One of the things that i was wondering was if other servers are like Fennin in the Fact that AC is what we call a "FFA" mob. "FFA" meaning Free for all. I have had Wizards and other casters Blow AC right out from under my boots and they got the kill for out damaging me. Asked a GM about it the first time it happened and he said that because of the Massive over camping and Number of people in zone for that single item that the AC spawn was considered a Free for all Spawn. "Who ever gets it, gets it." Is this the case on other servers?
I have solved the simple problem with always haveing my SK friends camp him with me. The three of us have taken 10 rings From SRo if you count group and Solo kills. we did 4 rings in a single day! That is with running to RM each time to MQ the ring to an Alt and a 5 hour wait for Bro Z to go night-night so Hasten would spawn. We all have our Alts decked out in Jboots.
Oh and BTW, as far as 2 years of hunting this guy has shown us, there is nothing that makes him spawn. I have seen him pop with "PHs" up and down. With the zone cleared and with the zone full of trash, and he has spawned while SGs and terror were up. It is random Folks. Don't pay some scam artist for Info that don't hold up to what many of us have seen. Now one thing that i am sure of. IF AC pops in one zone and isn't killed.. he will despawn and pop in one of the others. Had Guildies say they got to Cy island and saw him.. got to him just to watch him poof in front of there faces and as i was reading the /gu who dropped in for a visit in SRo? Well that is about the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Have fun and GL with AC. Oh, if you see a Pair of DE Sks being sped around by a Bard on Fennin.. just try again another day. We don't camp him EVERY night. 8^)

on The Nameless it's also FFA unfortunately. The first time myself and three others were camping for the AC, a 57 wiz easily outdamaged a 39 druid, 38 monk, and 44 warrior.

The next night I had a 53 wiz helping me out. There was another group (druid and enchanter) there camping it but they left (I guess they didn't think they could outdamage or mem blur it at the right time).

As far as the spawn, I think you're right in saying that it's random but I'm not sure. I think the PH in the temple has something to do with spawning the SG but I've seen SGs roaming even if the PH isn't killed. On occasion I have seen "crypt mummy" spawn in there, not "a crypt mummy". I don't know if that has anything to do with spawn rates.

Last nite we camped SRo and got the AC to spawn in 30 minutes game time and again about 3.5 hours later. One note - in wolf form the ghouls and madman won't aggro on you, which is a plus when you're just sitting there waiting.

Getting the spawn

It really is simple. Kill the rarer or strangely names mobs in the desert area. killing one of these will spawn another in under a minute, find it and kill it. (sometimes pop in buried tower)

Rinse and repeat until the AC spawns. This can take some while. If you can get 2 or 3 groups of guildies to come and kill EVERYTHING in the zone to increase your chances.

You should get the AC pop in under 5 hours this way.

Fore more info on the rare spawns in this zone look up Ancient Cyclops on

I have got 2 rings this way in a week. Thanks mr AC. As a level 39 wizard the Ancient Cyclops is easily soloable. Some of the SG's are more resistant to root and snares though.

I hope this helps a bit.
Got him... Finally!

I finally got the AC tonight in SRo at level 40 with a 38 Pali friend helping me clear the spawns. I was concentrating on the northern end of the zone, being sure to clear out everything i could (not too hard with SoW potions, FBSS, and a healing partner for help with the SG's). After killing 3 "rare" mobs (giant rattlesnake, madman, and another madman), this guy finally spawned right next to the derv camp on the eastern edge of the zone. He actually wasn't too hard to take down, especially after my Runebladed Sword of Night proc'd 3 times in my first 15-20 attacks... I actually had him down past half health before my partner got there to assist. He went down fairly easy, and after months of the occasional camp, I'm finally ready to get those J-Boots. Now if I can stay awake long enough to find Hasten...

It's gonna be great to save money now that I don't have to buy those SoW potions anymore.

I just killed the oot AC at level 45, and he was blue. He didn't resist much, nor did he hit very hard on the two rounds of combat he got off his one effective resist. Some of the regular clopses get lucky on resists, though, and I once had to gate out from two high-resist PHs in a row.
