Scheme for SSoY
# Apr 26 2002 at 6:30 PM Rating: Good

OK, here's the skinny on my plan to get a SSoY:

1. Get my druid to 24+
2. Do Paw of Opolla quest
3. Among other things, sell paw and buy an SSoY to give to my Warrior.

A question: When does it proc?

This looks like a good sword to dual wield along with my Whip of Strangulation. The 2 procs will deal significant damage themselves, I also will deal decent melee damage(I will miss my Babs though, hit for 29 at level 10.). Good luck, everybody?

Producing? What is it, a factory?

Or did you mean processing (procing, as most call it)

At level 37 with a decent group and a Bard that knows how to wield the Weapon Correctly, He / She can Really help a group out. You can Effectively sing and Fight if you know what you are doing. Im 36 now with my Duel Centis. I am already successfully grouping with mid-high to high 40s in the Dreadlands and have my Yak waiting to Come out and Play =). I just picked up a Centi SS for my Rogue's offhand. I had a Stiletto of Bloodclaw, but I wanted a slasher, and something with more kicked. But I miss the proc already, so here's what I'm gettin at. Centi SS is 12/25, this is 8/24 with proc. With a dex at 140 or so, will this proc enough to make up the damage difference or should I stick with the Centi?

Running the numbers shows that its a toss up. The CSS has a damage ratio of 4.8 HP/sec (since you're talking about off handing it there are no modifiers). The SSOY has 3.3 HP/sec. There are 2 issues in a fight that come to mind: 1) is the proc effective and frequent enough to be worthwhile and 2) how much aggro will it draw. As a rogue I know about aggro all to well :(

At 140 DEX you will get at least 1 proc if not 2 or 3 per fight at level 37+. The one thing to consider is that Ykesha is not just 75 DD. Its a Stun as well (I haven't timed it but I believe its between 6 and 12 secs). If the mob is stunned then it is not damaging the party. This will make your healers very happy. The effect will make the mob very pissed at you, too. So, be ready to evade like crazy when that stun wears off. Procs are unpredictable, so I have learned to be glad when they happen but not base my life around them.

On the other hand the CSS gives you that extra 5 STR which could make a difference in your backstab damage. This will also make the mob very pissed at you.

So, I guess it comes down to whether or not you are a gambling person. Do you take a chance on a great proc or go for the steady, more reliable, yet smaller increase in damage?

RE: Compare
# Apr 17 2002 at 8:32 AM Rating: Good
As a rouge I don't recommend any weapons that proc. You guys draw enough taunt with your backstabs anyway, and don't have the hit points to handle it. Go with the Centi SS, as procs add greatly to the hate list. Remember rouges are supposed to kill discreetly from behind with a knife to the throat, not with frilly magic so they can clap a cute procs...

Is it just me or is that the wrong pic for the Yak? It looks like a Ghurka in the game, and so does the Icon, I have no idea what the icon above is.
Anyway The Yak goes good in my off hand with my Centi Short Sword in my main.

This is probably better for some people than WW dragon talismans, and so if it dropped off a more reasonable target, it would be good. But, sadly, its another item from Inner Acrylia. At this point, melee characters need more than 50 hp in a slot, clr.dru.shm need to be looking at the Talisman of the Burrower, if not better, and int-based casters are worried about raw mana, which this also falls short on. Its conceivable that someone might still need this at the point they got it ... but not by much. Really, adding FT 2 or some useful focus effect might have salvaged this ... but that's not what Inner Acrylia seems to be for.

Looking for advice
# Jan 31 2002 at 2:17 PM Rating: Good
I received this and a Beserker's sword from my guild when I mentioned that my dual wield and 1hs were really crummy for level 24 (I have had good 2h swords since I was 5 and got spoiled). This is my primary and the Beserker's is my secondary. In a group, I see myself as the taunter/tank, doing damage but letting the wiz if we have one do the real damage. My paladin wife is the backup tank/taunter, the cleric heals, the shaman DoTs and the wiz nukes. With alacrity or celerity I look like a Cuisinart with these things. If we don't have a nuker or if my wife and I are just duoing, I pull out my BABS and whack away with the 100 point Crits. And still taunt every chance (a RP thing, it HURTS me to see my dear wife take hits. Even in a darned GAME). Oh, also, I have become pretty adept at switching the duals for the BABS if I need to get some fat hits in the middle of a fight.

My question is this: am I doing the right thing, here? Am I basically playing the mid 20s warrior right? With my wife's pally buffs I have 1000 hp and an AC of almost 600.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hello,

to the numbers: 600 AC and 1000hp sounds good at 26. But its not the buffed status that counts. About 600 AC and 910 hp was my stats at this level, unbuffed.

I think the discussion of using 2 hs or 2x 1hs weapons is one of a personal preference. I never used 2hs much, so i have a very ugly skill in this.
Since I was not able to gain a decent 2hs weapon ( I am not twinked=) i am working fine with a centi ss and a wakizashi of the frozen skies. The high delay and combined with much higher prices for the 2hs weapons is what hinders me of using such a weapon.

To the Roleplay: Well if your MAIN TANK you are designed to get the beating. I made the experience , if i am in a group , only to taunt if its necessary to get that mob from a caster. Hey a paladin is a tank (even if its your wife) and is able to get a beating, better at least as the poor caster with nearly no hitpoints. I think a tank is there to get the beating and deal some damage.

Dex Dex and MORE DEX
# Dec 31 2001 at 3:10 AM Rating: Decent
All I have to say is that if you are thinking about getting a Yak atleast try to have your dex at or over 100. With my ranger i used yak in main a wakizashi in offhand - plus with call of sky. I have 98 dex and it procs they proc pretty well. Heh any lower though and you might have some trouble procing this weapon.

NOTE : This DOES NOT mean to not get one if your dex is too low. They are great weapons, especially for lower 30s to upper 40s. It hits fast, hard and at lvl 37 you get a proc that is sweet.

Runebladed Sword of Night
# Nov 29 2001 at 10:12 PM Rating: Default
I recently acquired a Runbladed Sword of Night at a GM event, it's a 176dd proc that happens at an unknown level, since it's owned by about five-to-ten people on each server *I think* and is warrior nodrop. It's stats are 12 dmg 24 dly +3 Str +3 Sta Effect: Shock of Spikes, if anyone knows what level this procs at, or is at a level where it's procing for them, please do make a post here.

Well, if you look under the listing for the runebladed sword of night, here on allakhazam's, you will find that it procs at 38. Also, Since it was dropping like crazy during last Halloween's Systemwide GM events, I doubt there are only 5-10 per server anymore. They were one of the harder items to get from the events, but I'd guess that there are at least 100 per server, just from those events. Also, since it drops in Kithicor, And has for a LONG time, There are probably quite a few per server from those drops.
Well.....

But to give this to a 1st season warrior or any other fighter class, and you hacking and slashing for about 18ish at about a slash every 3-4 seconds. And that makes it so it takes out about any low lvl mob 4-5 hits. If that doesnt make ya atleast a little happy...i dont know what does ;)

I just wanted to thank the guy who recommended the Wakizashi of Frozen Skies over this sword. At 23, I went to nfp all fired up to buy a Yak, then checked out this info first and found that the Yak don't proc til waaaay high levels. Bought the Wak instead, which procs 80dd at lvl 20 and been dual wielding like a madman with Whip of Strangulation in offhand. I am now the King of Proc! The Wakizashi goes off 2 or 3 times per fight and has saved my sorry *** a number of times already. So, don't bother with the Yak I guess until you are high enough lev to get the proc. Longwinded I know, but I got there in the end!

I am a 47 Ranger (as of this post), and I have used Ykesha's from about 35-43. My main weapon combo in that time was a SSoY dual wielded with a Dragonhorn Ykesha. Between them I get about 4-5 procs in an average fight, sometimes less, sometimes much more. There are far better weapons out there, but for mid levels, a Short Sword of the Ykesha is a very respectable choice. Before the proc worked (at 37) I used Icetooth's in my main, as the ratio is better. I currently see these for roughly 600pp on Emarr, and although I don't use mine anymore, I keep an eye out on the pricing for guildies.

It is not the Be-all, end-all of weapons, obviously, but at the level's I mentioned above, it served me well. After about 43 or so, as a Ranger, Agro becomes more and more important to avoid as a Ranger, so I've switched to an ACG, except when I'm grouped with only my wife, when I use a Smoldering Brand and Ykeshan War Club. If your a smart player, you CAN use these and still manage to keep agro off you, its all a question of how good you are at it, which comes from practice (and getting hit a lot :P).

Anyways, if you are considering getting one of these, I would definately recommend it, as they ARE somewhat common in EQ these days, and not too tough to buy, if you can't camp the spawn they drop from.

I'm a level 38 ranger on Povar. I loved my yaks but now i'm not sure if they are right for me. With the proc, i have high agro in groups now, which pulls the agro off of the tanks. Not a what a ranger should be doing. Any good suggestions?

It does not Suck, and I will tell you why!
1.I have only seen a couple of ppl using this thing and same with ppl selling it in EC, so it is not VERY common.
2.I got one for 500pp.
3.With the 75dd proc at level 37 I out dmg warriors of the same level.
4.Who cares about weight unless you are a monk. besides 4.5 is light.

So get your facts straight and dont bother ppl with stupidass posts, no one wants to hear you bag a good weapon with incorrect info, let them deside for themselves.

What lvl does this damn thing start procing twinked my little bard with it and want to know.
dmg does matter
# Sep 29 2001 at 9:09 PM Rating: Decent
Of course damage matters for a warrior, the more dmg you do the more aggro you get (why do you think monks and rogues get aggro??) You need a fast and High damaging weapon (jade mace, lammy etc)
And to the ranger (lvl 35) who is giving up on getting his wurmslayer because it isnt enough aggro... I think you need to play a new class. Rangers are about doing dmg, not getting aggro, thats why they have jolt spells at higher lvls.

#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 05 2001 at 9:25 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This weapon sucks, and I'll tell you why!
RE: HORRIBLE
# Oct 26 2001 at 3:05 AM Rating: Decent
I have to agree that a weapon does not suck because of it's popularity. It is only when it's popularity is undeserved that it sucks, such is the case of pop music. /em sigh!
But I must also say that I don't think I'll use it because I already have a wakizashi of the frozen skies 6/22 that procs as early as 25 or so I've heard for a 80 something spirit strike. I also recently aquired my glowing black sword a 9/22 dex+20, yes twenty, that is supposed to sell for a couple k's but I got for 500pp. the matching delays and the dex increase makes me dual like a madman.
Anyways I think that there are definitely better weps but you will have to look for them and get a little lucky too. But if you want a reasonable bang for your buck this looks like the thing to get.

umm, not only was it one of the uber weapons once, it still is a nice weapon. Just because everyone has it makes it not good? so I guess because everyone has their epic weapon when they can get it, it makes the epic bad, and the lv 60 who uses their newb weapon still is good and unique? Where is the logic in that statement
RE: HORRIBLE
# Oct 03 2001 at 6:11 AM Rating: Good
Just for the record..
Where the hell did you ever come up with that a weapon is BAD cuz "everyone" have it? Does it proc less often? does the dmg or dly change? NO . I see tanks up th the late 40's use them all the time. Of course there are much better weapons, but for a 700 800 pp wich is price on my server, this is a good weapon for everyone below 45. Wieght... 4.5? bad? Come on bro. Everyone who plays a meele class should have strenght and stamina above 50, dont you think? Aye.
A dwarven warrior should have str and sta well over 100, wich even my ranger has.
