In The Darkened Ruins of Old Guk (aka Lower Guk revamped) the ghoul lord is level 85. His highest hit on me is about 10 seconds before I got raped was 1696. I'm sure he hits higher than that though. Prolly 2.5k.

You guys should make a temporary new zone called The Darkened Ruins of Old Guk. Seeing how that's what it's called when you zone in.

For those not familiar with Lower Guk, the ghoul lord is found at the dead end of a hall in the eastern lowest level. Most maps have him marked on it (if you have downloaded them).

His location is 1557, -749, -167

I was hunting him for the Crown of Deceit quest, in 5 kills he dropped the following:

3 skull-shaped barbutes
1 short shord of the Ykesha
1 Scalp of the ghoul lord (5th kill, the item I was after).

His spawn cycle appeared to be the regular zone-wide time (I want to say 18ish mins but cannot do so with authority).

I dragged a couple friends of mine down to Lower Guk to camp an SMR (there were NONE for sale in the bazaar, I couldn't believe it), we were there for a few hours and we basically just kicked the crap out of the entire basement hall, from about frenzy on up.

49 enchanter (me)
52 mage using 51 earth pet
51 cleric

We managed to pull this guy twice, the first time he stayed aggro on me through most of the fight (very annoying, but the cleric just cast remedy as needed), soon as I landed slow on him the 51 earth pet tore him a new one, didn't even need to heal the pet through the whole fight. He dropped the Barbute the first time and a Yak the second time. Fun stuff. :)

We were there for about 4 hours, the AM spawned just before we left, but he had the damn legs. :( We also managed to kill the hand three times (Serp Bracer x 3) and the Frenzied once (Ring, bah).

(Trading Yak for SMR? :D)

If there was ever a zone to be re-vamped, it would be lower guk. Once feared by many and heavily camped for it's loot, it's now a barren waste of undead Frogloks that try to run in death crawl.

Since when is it ok for an undead to run at low health? What's ironic, is undead have no life to begin with, nor fear anything. No undead should run as that's the whole point of why they behave the way they do, they are not afraid of anything so why are they running?

The loot here is all sub-par and rots more than pixe stingers in Misty Thicket. The named for this zone are pushovers and drop nothing of use, even for the alt's of an alt. Only exception is the need for Enchanters and/or Rogues to get the robe from the Magus (SMR).

There was a time when the Frenzy could give a group trouble; the Ghoul Lord would wipe a many groups, now any mob in this zone can be crushed by a mid-level rookie.

Make this zone scary again, crank up the volume and bring back to life the stench that put fear in the hearts of men and kids alike!

I was level 56 when I took the ghoul lord out. I fought my way to the room (needed the faction, and the loot isn't bad if you pick up everything). I also used the monk pet (level 56) and Augmentation of Death as my pet buff.

I took a chance and tried Rest the Dead (undead lull). It's max level 45, and the bok knights which guard the ghoul lord are sometimes 46 or 47. I got lucky, and both lulls took.

I pulled the ghoul lord (and his pet) with snare and moved back out into the hallways I came from, so as not to aggro the bok knights when lull wore off.

You can either take out the pet, or mez it with Screaming Terror. Let your pet tank the ghoul lord while you slow (Shackle of Spirit) and load it up with dots. As noted below, the ghoul lord has a metric assload of hit points. (That's lots of hit points.) So keep your pet healed (reverse lifetap works), though I found that with the ghoul lord slowed, and pet hasted, the pet didn't take too much damage. A couple nukes tossed in helped end it when he ran away.

And I got the scalp, woohoo! Skull-shaped Barbute dropped as well.

We did this earlier today with relative ease. (62 Monk, 54 Cleric) First off IVU is awesome on the undead side. Once you are invis vs. undead you can just run spot to spot / camp to camp without ever having to fight. We consistently ran from the Executioner's room to the Bloodthirsty/frenzied room.. and finally to the Lord room as well as the re-animated hand. (also Arch Magi near lord room) Everything is on about a 20 minute timer.
The Ghoul Lord has a surprising amount of hp's. The monk immediately killed the pet and proceeded to wail away on the Lord after that. I Chealed maybe twice with a couple of Divine Light's in between. It was an easy and controllable fight if you pacify the 2 mobs on the left and the right of the Lord. He dropped the Barbute (weak). When fight was over we invised again an ran to the next spot. It's not

We spent just over 2 hours in LGuk and killed the Ghould Lord once, Bloodthirsty Ghoul twice, Frenzied once, re-animated hand once, but we never got that pesky executioner to spawn /sigh.

As a 65 monk (moderate mostly dropable gear) around 3,100 hp, I cleared the hall up to him, cleared his guards, took his HT, waited for disc and mend to be back up and HP regen to full, (wearing a fungi) and then charge him, kill the pet, start raping him with inner flame and blow mend when I get 50% health. I have successfully killed him 10 times, I had helm drop almost every time, and a yak one of the times, I don't know if my luck is just plain horrible but I can't get him to drop the G-danm scalp, but It gives me a reason to keep factioning, as I hate factioning ) -still KOS after 10ish hours of faction and going through two rollbacks in ONE hour.. those really blew, I hope the patch today fixes this S*IT. I suspect I have a long time to go till im Indifferent to live side.

I'm a pretty well equipped 55 Pally, 1250ish AC 2800ish hp self buffed w/ 22% haste item + 25% pally spell haste, and this guy is work. Oh, and use a Widebladed Greatsword, 35/35 2hs.

Probably about a 8-10 min fight for me yesterday, w/ KEI, fearing him alot so that I could heal/med up during the fight. Post 54 I can fear with no risk of adds here. It might be doable earlier too.

I had cleared Lord Hall up to Lord, but was worried about backpops on the way to the pit so I fought him just outside his lair. Actually should have just taken him inside the Lord Room since I had just cleared other 2 mobs first w/ pacify pulls.

His HT landed for 611, he hits very fast and for alot for an old world mob. I needed to LoH, and after one add (the wanderer), I killed Lord with 5-10% mana and 5-10% health. Way too close for comfort, but certainly a good challenge!

Other than fighting him inside his room, which should eliminate the add (I think), I'll bring along a shammy DS potion or three next time. That would make a big difference. Too bad his loot is way worse than the ArchMagus, who now is pretty easily dispatched with KEI and chain stuns.

with a 65 monk he is pretty easy. I was doing faction here for woody illusion crown earlier today and I never got hit by his HT out of 15 or so kills. I have runspeed 3, of course, which is probably why. Dropped Ykesha twice, I never looted him so I don't know if he dropped anything else. There was a level 38 there who looted all the corpses I left in the safe hall, needless to say, a now very rich level 38 after the 7 hours I was there, still threateningly in faction btw.

To prevent HT from landing cast stun on the Lord and then run like a little girl to the pit. Most times a HT mob will blow thier HT when you are out of range thus causing no damage to you. Of course you now have a very pissed off Ghoul Lord on your hands and most likely atleast one of his buddies.

Neat idea, I didn't realise harmtouch had a range limit.

Another good method is to bring along an SK or Necro with Harmshield up: we had the SK aggro pull with Harmshield, the Ghoul Lord blew the harmtouch on the shield, and then the SK pulled him back to us as the Harmshield was running down. A cleric with Divine Aura or any other similar class with the appropriate invulnerability spell would work well too.

Then with a Necro 70% undead slow he was an easy kill :).

It's true. Back then, Mithril 2-Handers and Yaks ruled. They were every melee player's aspiration. There were no planes, no Kunark, no Luclin, no Velious, no Hole. There are still few, if any, better weapons to be found in the old world (Antonica, Faydwer, and Odus excepting the Hole).

Now that the average player level is about 45, of COURSE things have changed. :)

It's a shame Sony made so much of the old world trivial or crap with the new expansions. I mean, look at monks... not until Luclin did you see 11/16 Hand-to-hand weapons... *shrugs* I guess it's the only way to make players capable of killing the tougher mobs, I guess.

Tonight I had some fun. A new friend of mine (level 60 Warrior) and I (level 48 enchanter) solo'ed the lord and his two friends. Warrior did all the work, of course, with me hasting, and mezzing the two adds. Even so, the lord brought him down to where he had to use his breastplate to heal himself. After healing himself, me nearly out of mana keeping 3 mobs mezed, he resumed the lord kill. In the end we prevailed. I had less than a red of health (in troll form) and he wasn't much better. But, we did get an SSOY out of it. It was also a blast.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

What was REALLY fun was this one time he spawned, our shaman left GUK, sowed himself, gated back into the safe hall, then debuffed the lord and ran to the zone. Our rogue was hiding at the intersection (the first when you turn right to the undead side near the zone) to warn the shaman when to zone. Then, he (a troll) and our warrior (an ogre) lined themselves up (this was PRETTY hectic, because it had to be fast) so they were blocking the hall....

... Now, for some reason, the lord took a LONG time to arrive. Needless to say, for some strange reason, he decided to pay a visit to the Arch mage room (???), he passed by some careless frenzy campers (again, no clue why) before waltzing all the way to the end of the zone. Needless to say, those who weren't clobbered immediately from his onslaught (and his room friends) ran to the zone, where they got stuck between our "Dammit I'm stuck he's blocking me!!" (heh heh) blockers.

... Needless to say, the zone population plummeted by over 30!!! There was an INSANE amount of corpses at the zone. Of course, in order to make it seem believeable, our shaman took a death so when the GM arrived (and he did) he had a good excuse ("I couldn't move because my stupid keyboard was F^%$^*ed up, and some idiot trained me! I need a rez!")...

Man.... Just the screenshots of the shouts had us laughing for hours and hours..

After fighting in a number of groups, I have found that there a few rules to taking this guy down. 1) Have at least two tanks. One can be a ranger, but I suggest have a high HP, high AC one as well. Ranger can peel mobs off casters while other takes the beating. 2) Make sure you know when the spawns around you are due up. My group has gotten wiped out because we tried to take Lord and had two adds pop behind our casters. By the time I had peeled them off our healers, we were in trouble. 3) You have two choices in dealing with the HT. a) send in a crappy pet to take it like a b_tch, or have your main tank sit right in front of the throne. I watched a group not doing this have thier Necro HTed from full health into unconciousness. He got a heal and popped back up, but damn was it funny. Also, a note to people veturing to Lguk for the first time: make sure you know your damn role. Lguk is NOT for people who just run around smacking whatever they think they want to kill in this game. The maze layout scares away most of these, but I have been grouped with a few, and they have been nothing but aggravation. Know what your responsibilities in the group are and do them. Screwing around here will at least be annoying, more often, deadly. When trying to take Lord, make sure your group's average lvl is at least 42. I tried to take the room with 5 lvl 40s and a lvl 52. We could have done it, but we were taking three spawns and had two adds(afore mentioned situation with knowing spawn times) so we failed.

For any who care, the lord is really good practice for getting used to group strategy/tactics. Yes, i know you can solo him with your level 55 (fill in the blank), but for mid 40s groups, it is a great warm up for the bigger nastier mobs you will soon be seeing.

Lord will get you used to having a shaman/enc around for slowing. Lord will get you used to having aggro focused on your main tank. Lord will get you used to many things that will be absolutely necessary for many future mobs. Unless you are 50+ you really need to take care with him. Lotta HP, hits hard, hits fast and HTs.

Funnest mob in the zone, easily.

Tiny Daggers and Scales of Pain just finished camping this guy no more than four hours ago on Torvo. We camped him for about six hours, had him pop 5 times, and 2 PHs. Got 3 SSoYs off of him total, 2 skullshaped barbrutes, a pair of darkmail gaunts and two serpentine bracers off various other mobs around that area. In total with 11 people we were holding 3 of the nearby camps PLUS this one. Alot of fun and GREAT exp (Got about a full orange WITH a 52 in the group).

Was camping Lguk in a mini-raid for the guild. We had set-up shop in Cav room. Group: 39 shammy, 47 war, 35 monk, 48 wiz, 41 cleric, and I, 44 pally. I casted inv. ud and went to pull and, BAM, there is lord hopping around with pet with just under 1/2 health. Guess a camp gone bad, dunno.

So I bashed with shield, ran to camp, and shouted on /gu LORD!

Oh yea, Yak hurts. After a nice battle, he was ours. Guild gets a yak, the east way.

BTW, guild was there for 5 hours and no group came back to claim Yak or lord. We would have given Yak back if they did so. :)

I've been huntin Lower Guk for quite some time, and I've been grouped in every dead side camp. The Lord's PH is a GUK ghoul knight, or a Jin Ghould Wizard.. always higher lvl than the bok guardians. This is not a nice froggie, nosir. Resisted 55th lvl enchanter charm 3x in a row, then got charmed and proceeded to wipe out 2 dars for his master, who had to chain cast charm just for safety. Spawns on throne, and is virtually impossible to pull without his friends, and he always joins the fray when a bok is pulled. GL on killin lord, BTW the SSoY hurts like hell when he has it, so it's not all fun to have him weildin it.

We set-up camp in the Lord Room last night for about 5 hours and let me tell that it's not all that hard. We were a 46 warrior, 45 monk, 47 monk, 48 cleric, 45 druid, 47 necro. When the lord spawned we had a hard time containing his aggro on all three of his spawns. He likes to zip around the room from caster to caster and tickle them where they don't like being tickled. The melee classes found him to be a real menace to kill. We never feared our lives, but this guy took a while for us to drop. His harm touch was about 500 points and the tank had no problem taking it (she had about 2200 hit points). Just expect a real wild battle when this guy shows up... he knows how to have some real fun.

For those that don't know, he spawns on the throne. Don't play on the throne because you will get stuck behind it and it really sucks. His place holder is a wizard. There are also two other froggie spawns in the room designed to be his guards. The whole room is set to a 30 minute timer. The ssoy is the rare drop, but you'll see it in his hand if he has it.
any tips on soloing strategy?

you're not gonna be able to solo this spawn for one simple reason...it's the L in LHM, and is probably 50% of the time no list call as needed.

I seriously doubt a necro's ability to get into the camp at all unless it's really late. (It sucks and is unfair, but it's true...nobody wants necro or a wiz in their group)

Last night while waiting for my spot on frenzy to open up, i got in a lord group for 3 hours. The group was 1 39 necro, 1 54 mage, 1 50 druid, 1 40 druid, Me, and 1 47 enchanter. I was the puller. After about 2 hours of fighting, a router on our server broke and dumped the population down to 1700 on a Saturday night. This wiped out the Magus room, so i started pulling from there. All in All, i got about 15 spawns to pull plus wanderers. Not too bad. So you pullers should not have any problems finding stuff to pull if there is NOT a Magus group.
- After 3 hours of Lord camping, our group got 2 Yaks, 1 SMR, 4 Serp bracers, 2 SSB's. The Lord only had 2 PH's. I won a yak and our mage won the SMR and our 50 druid won the other yak. BTW- our necro was in Lich Form and was pressing the sit and stand button real fast so it looked like she was doing the moonwalk until BAM Lord poped and killed her with his HT, FASTEST AND FUNNIEST death i have ever seen.

Hmmm...the other day i was in a magus group. There was no lord group, so i was pulling lord also. We got 6 consecutive lords. Three dropped the yak. After the 6th, I saw a group start to camp the lord. Probably got 10 placeholders in a row, haha.

Typical yk drop is 4 times in 24 hours so dont bother with this camp unless yer in magus group because you wont have as good of luck as the above person.

Yeah, and even if you are "lucky", whaddaya get?

A Yak.

Formerly uber, now you can find better for 50pp in the bazaar...

Head for Maiden's Eye or something. LGuk is a huge pain for comparatively little gain these days. It's not camped so much any more, at least on Brell server...you can easily get into a group at whichever camp you want, except maybe during prime-time.

But there's a reason for that: there are much better camps now.

One idea

If you need somebody to suck up the harm touch why not have your wizzie summon an eye of zomm and aggro him with that?

So your magician doesnt want to waste a pet... And your wizard cant take the agro, and your necro doesnt want to waste a pet either! What do you do? Have your shadow knight summon a pet! I havent grouped with many SKs, but as far as I know they can at least take a beating while a mob is taunted off of them, or even if it isnt taunted... Just a thought :-)

Because a lvl 45 or so wizzy only has 1000 hp or so and the lord would eat through him in no time unless the tanks had incredible taunting talents. For some reason when a wiz pulls with eye of zomm the mob gets SUPER-AGGRO and it becomes very hard to divert its attention.

that is a good idea actually, no sense almost wasting a good mage pet.

Clicking on Ykesha
# Aug 16 2000 at 9:12 AM Rating: Decent
For the person who commented on the dagger icon that is shown when clicking on the SSOY link, that is what the ykesha once looked like. For some reason a long time ago, Verant changed the ykesha's looks. The only weapon that still exists with that look is the Blood Fire from CT. Actually, everyone I have talked to likes the look of that sword better than the one we are all familiar with. So no, its not a mistake and its not a dagger.
