I tried to make it. (me being a magician with the SPELL for Talisman of return, thought I can make talisman but can't use???? what the frak!)

Turns out you have to have the tradeskill Alchemy.

So Shaman only making ability. or whatever class gets access to alchemy.

Correct, shaman only which it shows in the recipe information on this item.

I think the one down side to this whole thing of price vs. gate potion is this... Once you buy a gate potion, it stays with you til you use it. If you're not the mage summoning the Talisman of Return, then every time you log on you have to hunt down a mage who can summon you one. Otherwise, this is 3x as good as a gate potion, since it costs 1/3 the price on most servers.

Although the Talisman of Return will only work for lvl 46+, too. While a gate potion works for all.

This is also used for the Binden Concerrentia ... it is reusable and can easily be gotten now that Earth, Air, Water and Fire time zones are open by level.

It's not no rent, maybe it was no rent at the time of the post but it's not anymore. For 105 plat gate isn't to bad. It takes you in front of fountain by Tarerd Gahar (near kaladim stone). I don't mind paying the plat for it at all. It's better then using my OT hammer, one less zone to cross.

Old post I know, but the item he was talking about being No Rent is not the Quintessence of Knowledge, but the item that uses it, Talisman of Return. Which is summoned by mages. Which is why he said you have to hunt one down.

You have to be at least 18, maybe higher, for the attempt. Also, it isn't rec that you start trying alch till at least level 29.
Question
# Dec 13 2003 at 10:08 PM Rating: Default
So can you just buy more regents to get more charges, or once you are out of charges you can no longer use the effect?

non rechargable sadly :(.

So either redo the quest, or start on the next one :)
Expensive? No.

For people with a PoK gate item that requires this and for magicians this is a very useful reagent to carry around. Yes, at first sight it looks a tad expensive especially since you can get a Thurg portion for a lot less. But... you can only carry one Thurg potion around. Also, you cannot give your Thurg potion to someone else. Magicians can summon their Talisman of Return and give it together with a QoK to a player if the need arises.

They come especially handy on certain raids where casters are required to bind in or just outside the raiding zone (HoT anyone?) --> ability to tag stragglers in PoK, gate back, run to SG and CoTH them all over (for those who are still not able to do the run). Gate back to just outside ToV and CoTH them again. Fast pickup.
Other situation for example: as a mage you're deep in a dungeon at your favourite cash cow camp. What? Bags full? Bind at the spot, whip out Talisman of Return, sell, and gate back. The money you make easily covers the expenses of QoK.

And I am sure there are many other circumstances where this will come in very handy.

Are you a mage capable of Talisman of Return ==> keep a stack at all times.
Are you someone with a PoK gate item => keep a few QoK's at all times.

We have a talisman of return (summoned item) that uses this as well, to gate to PoK.So, I can understand the mages buying a bunch, and now hopefully you all do too.
huh?

what exactly does this do?
Cost
# Aug 12 2003 at 11:55 AM Rating: Decent
So even the unlimited one costs 100pp+ per gate? That seems aweful expensive. I was thinking about doing this quest but not for that much. I can make Thurg potions almost for no cost.
RE: Cost
# Jan 02 2004 at 10:12 AM Rating: Default
was gonna buy a gate potion...single charge from trader in bazaar. THAT is expensive. rather have a charge to take me out for a hundred than the prices they ask in the bazaar. now i just need to find a friendly shaman to make me that cute little grey bottle less than i'm getting from them scalpers.
RE: Cost
# Dec 14 2003 at 9:59 PM Rating: Decent
I agreed with KimBab. Time=money. If you get stuck out in the middle of nowhere and you are a non-gating class then you'll be wasting a lot of time trucking it back to PoK. Time that could be spent getting the money of the agent back. Not to mention trucking it isn't fun and LDoN is =-p
RE: Cost
# Sep 08 2003 at 3:58 AM Rating: Decent
Cost isn't a big issue imo...i get 100pp+ just xping in a day. So carry 1 QoK on ya for emergencies...stuck at seb at 3am with no tp'er for example. Or even HS. You're not stuck in places multiple times a day (i'd hope not anyway) to where you need alot of QoK's.
RE: Cost

/agree
I would seriously hope that someone who has the ability to get the 3rd talisman doesn't have to worry about a measly 100pp per cast, lol. By that time money shouldn't be that much of an issue.

Does anyone have any usefull info? Like, perhaps HOW MUCH do the components cost? or HOW MUCH would you sell a stack for on your trader?

edit : post on a different page says 105pp to make. Factor in failures.. but shouldnt be many at this low of a trivial.

by clickin the links above, they're shown to be 50pp and 75pp. so, 125pp average price(after carrying the 1). Hope that is useful to you.

The trader issue is entirely different depending on what server you're on. Be entrepreneurial and come up with a price. If they sell out fast, raise the price. If they take a long time to sell, lower it.

Just bought the parts in PoK, with 105 CHA they cost me:

Tanaan Ginko - 62p 9g 9s 9c
Erudition Vine - 41p 9g 9s 9c

So for one completed Quinessence of Knowledge, it costs 104pp 9gp 9sp and 9cp. Anyone trying to make a living off these things would quickly learn get their CHA up to the 105 mark, so anything over 105 should be profit.

Based on how rarely I see them on Innoruuk, either no one is making them, or everyone is buying them. Price I have seen is 160pp. That is apparently too high, as I just bought the parts and I intend to have a friend make me some. (c: (BTW, cost me 2099pp 9gp 6sp for a stack of each.)

Used as a reagent by the Powered Clockwork Talisman (15 charges of PoK Gate)... I expect this will sell pretty well if you have a 24/7 trader (when enough folks have made the talisman's that is!).

Yes, it's also used by the 5-charge talisman and the unlimited talisman...I am going to stock up my mule, I bet demand for this will build over time.

not really best seller so far is the gate potion twice the cost to make but what ever floats ur boat :-)

    # Jun 09 2003 at 4:36 AM Rating: Decent
This wont over sell the gate potions. But it DOES have very nice states for a neck slot item. My monk would LOVE this as would my druid. For my monk they gate effect would be a good thing to have. Buy a Stack of Quintessence of knowledge and be able to gate when I need or dont feel like running out of some mad dungeon.
I feel the states on this make the regeant worth it. Just sux you have to be 65 to get into teir 5 zones :(
    RE: reagent
    # Jun 27 2003 at 4:28 PM Rating: Decent
I sell pleanty of these. I'd say they DO sell faster than gate potions, but that's probably because they cost about 1/3 as much. People (mages mostly) come by and buy up 5, 10 or 20 at a time.

However I stock both, you never can tell what is going to be in demand on a particular day. The best strategy I have found is to keep a wide variety of popular items on hand, and keep your mule up 24/7.
