Deklean Korgad may be found at -650, -500.

    You say, 'Hail, Deklean Korgad'

Deklean Korgad eyes you suspiciously. His beard is tangled in completely impossible knots, and you wonder very much if he has ever seen fresh water in his life. He seems to be completely oblivious of the small insects that crawl freely across his tattered clothing. He speaks to you in a low growl. 'Go away! I don't like being bothered! Your making too much noise! The horrors will hear you and then I'll have to [move again]!'

    You say, 'Why move again?'

Deklean Korgad glares at you. 'You're really out to get me killed aren't you? How am I supposed to find [deep spores] with you thrashing about waking up the beasties and scaring all the shriekers!'

    You say, 'What deep spores?'

Deklean Korgad says 'Never heard of deep spores have you? Well if you're going to be spending some time down here you'd best learn quickly. Deepspores are the only thing edible in this cavern. Most of the mushrooms down here will sooner eat you then allow them selves to be eaten! The Deepspores are different though, if you cook them a bit they're the most delicious food in the universe!'

Bring him 4x "Deepspore" (dropped by "a deepspore mushroom" mobs):

Deklean Korgad eyes the spores hungrily. He shoves them all in his pockets and looks at you. 'I appreciate that friend, you've proven yourself worth a bit of trust. I hate to take the mushrooms and run, but I have to get across the [chasm] soon. Here take this, thanks for the mushrooms!'

    Rewards:
"A fungus covered hunk of rock" (no known use, even though some people used to pretend it allowed you to float down the chasm as though you had levitation)
    Experience
Faction with Deklean Korgad (+2 per turn-in; faction has no known use)

    Extra Chatter

    You say, 'What chasm?'

Deklean Korgad rolls his eyes at you. 'Hmm...I'm not sure, maybe that big gaping hole in the ground down through the second corridor! You haven't even explored the cavern yet have you. I wouldn't wander around too much unless you're feeling lucky. There's nothing the thought horrors like more than a loud obnoxious band of would be heros that come crashing into their home. They especially like playing with the corpses of those that fall through that fake bridge out there.'

    You say, 'What fake bridge?'

Deklean Korgad says 'Yes that bridge out there is fake, I'm sure more than a few of your kind will end up falling straight through it like lemmings. I'll be taking the safe route thank you very much. Just have to be careful about sneaking past all the beasties. Somehow I doubt you'd make it past any of them as careless as you prance around. Few can face the thought horrors and get away with their sanity. I'm one of the lucky ones, yup!'

You say, 'I will face the thought horrors'

Deklean Korgad laughs uncontrollably. When he finally regains his composure he looks at you and says, 'All right chief, if you can prove to me that you can stand up to horrors then I'll show you the way across the chasm. Bring me 2 thought horror tentacles and that hunk of rock I gave you and we'll see about getting you across that bridge. Oh and by the way, since you're so full of energy, go run to shadowhaven and bring me back some Deep Cavern Bourbon along with those tentacles.

Ahhhhh completion! I am surprised Shadowhaven is spelled with a lower case s but he is crazy eh?

Apparently Deklean wants proof that you can handle the terrors and also wants some liquid courage to take you to the bridge.

Give Deklean Korgad the Fungus-covered hunk of rock, 2 Thought Horror Tentacles and a Deep Cavern Bourbon which can be purchased in Shadowhaven, Echo Caverns and the Bazaar and a few other places.

I did not have my log on. Here is what he says from my screen shots.

Deklean Korgad says 'Well I'm impressed Jibbre, you actually went up against some terrors and won. I'll keep my part of the bargain and show you across the chasm. I'm warning you though, this side of the cave is a candy shop compared to the far side.Anyhow, follow me and we'll make our way there.I'm sure you'll be able to dispatch anything we run into on the way, seeing as how you're an accomplished horror slayer!'

Your faction standing with Deklean Korgad has been adjusted by 1.

He then takes the most direct route to the chasm. Left alone he'll die fighting stuff. I also believe he may be susceptible to friendly fire so be careful. Not sure though.

When you get to the chasm and see the fake bridge.

Deklean Korgad says "Well here's the chasm I told you about. Seeing as how you're not very quick, I'd expect you to go barreling across that bridge over there at full speed! That'd get you killed in a hurry. I'm sure the mushrooms would enjoy feeding off of your remains though. Hurry up there now! We haven't got all day!'

When you get to the invisible bridge.

Deklean Korgad says 'Here's where you'll have to trust me friend. Just stay close to me and you'll be fine. And be QUIET! The beasties on the other side aren't nearly as pleasant as the ones over here.'

He leads the way across the bridge walking. Every ten feet or so a beacon appears and lands on the bridge. They look the same as traps. I didn't try to disarm them or remove them. He leads you all the way to the other side.

Deklean Korgad says 'Well here you are, the other side of the chasm. This is where I leave you, I need to take care of some things over here. I'm sure you'll be just fine as long as you stay quiet. Good luck to you friend.'

Hail him again to show him how quiet you are.

    You say, 'Hail, Deklean Korgad'
Deklean Korgad puts his hand over your mouth. 'Shuuuush! You may not be afraid of any of these beasties, but there's no reason to make all this noise and make them come running! (Diacritical mark missing here in text after the exclamation mark)

He remains up for a few minutes and the beacons disappear a few minutes after he vanishes.

Nothing fancy. No new toys. Not sure if there is a way to trigger the beacons.

These two quests really ought to be listed as one on this site, maybe using the Bridge Escort title, since the first part (Deepspores) is useless without the second. And delete where it says " (allows you to float down the chasm as though you had levitation) " in the quest description since that is not true.
More items needed for second turn in.

Old quest I know but this one has always felt unsolved to me.

Turn in 4 deep spores and he gives you a fungus covered hunk of rock. Hand him the fungus covered hunk of rock and he takes that too. I found a third item and am trying to figure out others but none of the search features would even help me narrow it down as the options for the parameters I am looking for don't exist. One of the odd 1 copper only value to npc vendors for sure. Luclin drops. Try to look up items that are tiny. It's not there as an option. He will take a thought horror tentacle. Give him the rock you have and he'll reset so you can give him a tentacle again. Redid the fungus covered hunk of rock, it may be 2 of 4 items for the actual end item received. It probably isn't a great item but I want to know!

Quest is repeatable -- receive a +2 faction increase with Deklean for every 4 Deepspores turned in.

I'm honestly wondering if some of the other random junk in The Deep is related to a quest he'll give with higher faction as he's Indifferent at this point.

    I have no idea why I care, but what the ****, there's a reason it's called *Ever*quest.

On Al'Kabor this item is called "A fungus covered hunk of rock" and it works just fine. Just carry it in your inventory and run and jump in the chasm and it slows your fall so that you will take less than 400 points of damage, not 20K. The Deep is a no lev zone so I have no idea how you could cast lev on yourself anyways as mentioned in some of the other posts.

You used to be able to cast Lev in the zone -- it didn't work in so far as you levitated, but you had the buff icon. Things certainly may have changed in the last 6/7 years. Or, do you think this game is static and how you experience it now is how it's always been?

Is this quest just to provide information that there is a false and inv bridge. Sort of like Indy Anna in the movie the "leap of faith"?

I spoke with an old EQ player (original beta player, and one of the original zerg team on zek server to kill the Sleeper) and he said he recalls being able to go across the chasm with the stone and not fall in the chasm. He thinks the zone got broke somehow in the past since it's not possible to avoid falling now.

All that's left is to find one of the dev team from Verant era that worked on Luclin expansion to tell us what it was supposed to do.

After what is listed above I said to him "What Fake Bridge" and he said something about how he was one of the lucky ones and and that I should be careful because the beasties like to play with the corpses of careless travelers or something like that. Anyways, that is all I could get out of him, GL with further information, and BTW Im NOT going to trust the stone!!!

Of course, this may still be a red herring -- why would you really believe someone that lives in a cave eating mushrooms to still be sane and not affected by the "magic" mushrooms?

I did the quest, yet never figured out how to use A fungus covered hunk of rock, to lev, or is this just a cruel rumor. Is there another step to this?

i've never tried it w/o lev--why take chances eh? =)

have the stone in inventory, cast lev, step off the false bridge(or anywhere you can drop down)you'll gently float down to the bottom--where a variety of nasty critters are awaiting.

I tried it w/o levi. 20k death. I'm out 190 plats for the corpse summon and still owe a cleric a favor for the rez.

I tried with levi, levi no worky in Deep. Beast's levitation and SOE doesn't work there at all and probably all other form of levi's.

I did explore the bottom via a ramp on the north west side of the chasm, nothing there at all. No mob, no visible ground spawn, nothing but barren bottom.

I realise your post is over 7 years old, but, I have to wonder what about anything in my post made you think you could go without the rock and use lev only? It's like, reading comprehension and logic aren't your friends?

    Wow...

I think this must hold the record for undiscovered quests being solved. And it sure makes the Deep seem a lot less malicious in design when you've got an NPC that tells you what's going on...and provides a way around it.

Question being...I've never seen this NPC in the Deep before. Where is he, and has he always been there?
