When looking for the sabretooth mane - check out the windmill in the Lake of Omen III zone - there's a merchant there that appears to sell them. The windmill is in the south eastern part of the zone.
With my level 22 SK mate we were at the mud pit, went after 1 tiger, a second aggro'd on then a third and then a fourth and fifth came out of nowhere. First time I had so many aggro at once. We did the smart thing and bolted for the zone to the woods.
Being a Ranger of 22 seasons I strongly recommend this technique for Sabertooth Tigers: Snare, Panic animal, follow and hack them to pieces. They have worthless saves against Fear spells and their fellow Tigers wont add even if you run through them, just like the crocs in Oasis of Marr..... I usually get 6-7 of them before I have to med up, only thing to look out for when fear kiting these kitties is adds from skellies and Sarnaks. Conning Dark to Medium Blue you get good, fast XP (and fair loot) from these when soloing at lvl 22-23.
And for druids add in a little DoT and med while the spell do their tricks and you don't have to worry about getting agros quite as much sicnce most of the time is spent in one spot and you can camo while you wait (I haven't bothered to try camo while kiting, test in safe situation first!)
Also since it's a animal it can be befriended, cobine with a fear kite and you can do a 1-2 combo, just make sure YOU kill the befriended one first or you loose half the exp since it did the work on the snared one (bit of a advance trick so practice it ALOT before using on big nasties cause you gotta get the timing just right, specailly if you don't like to use root)
I have killed at least 100 of the tigers myself and never gotten an excellent pelt. I also had a lvl 54 Mage go around eradicating the entire poulation for about 4 hours and SHE didnt get one either. I AM SUPPOSED TO 5 OF THESE FOR A QUEST!! is there something wrong here or what because I am very confused.
I must have been very lucky if these are that rare. In about two hours, camped on the shore due west of the mill, I looted 5 of these. I only got 2 regular hides. 4 dropped from regular Sabertooth Tigers and one from a Tigress. I probably killed about 15-20 in that time.
Maybe it's just bad luck. I just brought my 21 bard here and have soloed the mobs (28perc slow, dot/ac debuff, self haste/str buff song) and rarely lose more than 1-1.5 bubs of hp. I've killed about 40-50 of the cats and have gotten 2 excellent hides.
yes manes drop i just picked one up with a 17 warrior at the lake of il omens not sure yet what its for though so please let me know!!! thanks fayraven 17th warrior tribunal server
Near the Warslick Forest, they are all blue to a lvl 20 Druid, so I am guessing depending on your location in OT, decides what level they will be. Using Snare, I have only been hit twice, once because a Sarnak was coming and they will aggro me regardless of what I am doing. Anyways, I have yet to see a white/yellow/red con since I have migrated to The Overthere.
Red or yellow to me at lvl 34... So be care, they hits hard, about 80 dmg... Seems to be 2 differents sorts of Sabertooths Tigers. In OT, they are about lvl 36 to 39.
I killed a few of these with my druid the other night after a brief haitus form playing him. I looted 2 Excellent Sabertooth Tiger Hide(s) and was wondering what they were used for. I have never seen these drop before and I have killed TONS of these in the past. Thanks for any information you may have
Are there other quality sabertooth tiger hides? I know that sabertooth tiger hides will be required for wood elf racial tailoring once the oak bark tannin recipe is debugged, so this may be what those are for.
Excellent Sabertooth tiger hides are for Mithril Reinforced Leather armor. The regular hides are for Mithril studded leather. Both are for wood elf tailors/smiths/brewers of the Fier'dal Forge.
These tigers are in 2 different areas and 2 different level ranges.
In Lake of Ill Omen, they are around 20, but in the Overthere by Skyfire zone, they are still conning blue, even, yellow, and one or two still con red to a level 37.
I have been hunting these for almost 2 full levels now....i'm lvl 20 and I haven't seen a single one yet that conned yellow to me in the Lake.....everyone of them cons even to me....maybe that helps with the level questions....(btw i'm lvl 20 now...forgot to update my little statement below hehehe)
Just like the crocs in oasis these con ready to attack but never do, even sitting down, even if you're fighting another sabertooth. Lots of other stuff will attack though, so watch what's in the area.
i think he/she meant that the sabretooth tigers aren't in omen.... not the sabertooth tigers.... ppl before you post saying things like they go up to 39 or whatnot READ the deacriptions... it tells you that there are TWO different types the sabertooth and sabretooth... just like in oasis there are an orc and a orc.... one is higher than the other...
I am currently a level 18 magician. These sabertooths are all yellow to me and I can solo them very easily. One bubble of mana and about 30% of my pet's health. You don't need a group for these if you are a magician, just don't use shock of flame it is resisted a lot.
In Lake of Ill Omen, these tigers are most weak type. In Overthere, their level getting higher as you go south. Northern sabretooths are very green to me, but southern tigers are blue and tough for me soloing at Lv 40 ;(
Druids can solo at 20 but they resist dizzying wind A LOT, use careless lightning. Have gotten cat pelts, coin (where are their pockets?), and rarely a sabertooth which sells for 1pp and change.
These tigers kick my bard's butt solo at 20, but with just two of us (level 18 Iksar warrior and 20 bard)we take them down easy, and they give excellent experience. No loot though.
