Once site of the city Veksar, this area is located in the center of Kunark and gets its name from the unfortunate demise of what once stood here. Veksar sank into what is now the Lake of Ill Omen, and the area was overrun by the Sarnak Collective. Currently, the Iksars of Cabilis continue to do battle with the Sarnaks, fighting over the land.

A clan of Bloodgill Goblins occupies the lake outside of the fallen Veksar. To the northwest is a network of goblin caves which leads to Warsliks Woods. Roaming the entire area surrounding the lake are the wildlife native to Kunark and highly aggressive undead.

I recommend the Sarnak Fortress for an exp grind, its great for low-mid 20s.
I've always gone to LoIO using the Fironia Vie stone in PoK. you can use your map to run to LoIO fairly quickly, beware of the high lvl 35 spiders outside the cave, very easy to avoid though. Once entering lake you'll have no map but follow the river to the lake, work your way around the right side of the lake, its not that far of a run, eventually you'll see pillars coming out of the lake and a few broken ones on land, keep going around the lake bit more and you should see the fortress soon. if you follow the pillars into the lake you'll find veksar.
-Drop decent amount of loot and coin
-plenty of mobs outside the fortress so you don't need to go inside
-After killing the 2 sarnaks that guard the entry to the fortress go right and run up the wall, i setup camp there and pull mobs, they run a little bit but won't go far enough to aggro anything even without a snare.
-beware, they do run <20% but this isn't usually too much of a problem because of the open area inside the walls.

*If you follow the lake around to the left you'll come across some ruined buildings inhabited by goblins (range in classes), but I noticed this too late. I think they were probably the level of the sarnaks or maybe a bit lower.

Took my completely untwinked dwarf beserker here as per the game advice. Roamed around a bit and saw there is no easy zone out. No MOBs near the Firiona Vie zone and the other zones guarded by reds. Went to the right of the Lake and hunted blue stuff amid the green and gray for awhile. This is third person hunting with a far off perspective or you get add on's. The zone targets you as you will see if you sit and heal. Got a bubble with barely any loot and then tried the left of the lake to the Windmill. Here it was a rare blue in the white and yellow. Pretty steady pathing and not much chance of add on's on this side of the Lake. Used all my bandages (full pack). I could take out goblins easy (being a dwarf) but had to stay away from iskar as I could barely take out a blue. Killed lots of cats. Not much loot.

I don't know if i'm the only curious cat around, but has anyone ever looked closely at the skeleton lying on a table in the Sarnak fort in the Chancellor's room? Well, i did, and as a 52 rogue, i am ashamed to say i thoroughly regretted it. I don't want to spoil the surprise but just a suggestion: DONT. it is targetable and when you hit it....well....be sure you (or have a group) are well equipped and ready for anything, enjoy :)

Anywhere in here decent to solo as a 27 Necro?

Looks like a fair amount of fun fighting goblins in a group, but not much stuff to pick up as a solo any thoughts?

point 9 on the map http://www.eqatlas.com/kunark/lakeofillomenmap.html is also a good spot. I pulled to the shore with my 26 Necro (no wanderers) to kill the soothsayers/spiritcallers for my intensify death spell quest. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=2582

also, if on Firiona Vie, sell the green goblin skins for 80 pp each.

My 27 Mage hunts in the south side of this zone, and my 32 Bard solos the Sarnak fortress. Either of these places would be excellent for a Necro.

K, this is where I hunt with my Wizard. It's a pretty rough zone if you are 22 and under, cuz everything is high level. There is one merchant in this zone (Nubs Blackgranite...I think that is his name) and as far as I know he wont sell to ogres and trolls, but he sells to me and I am a human. There is Professer Akaboa but he is only a quest NPC and not a merchant or gaurd(although one time he did kill one of my aggros I had). A good safe place in this zone to be is inside of the Windmill but it's not 100% safe. Dont go near the north east part of this zone unless you are an iksar or else you will be killed by a Cabalis gaurd. I still invis myself everytime I walk through this zone. The best place to hunt after you are 22 is the Sarnak fort. The exp is pretty good especially if you can get inside. The only problem is it's pretty hard to get a group in this zone, but if you can it's a lot of fun. What I would like to know is what happened to all the people in this zone? Where did they go, where do they hunt now? And thats all the advice I have to offer

I went here once with my main (now 46 druid) and the zone was packed, so I went elsewhere. I brought my new 20 warrior here last week and there is NO ONE in the zone!!! The most I have seen in the last week is 7. Soloing by the windmill is a cakewalk, but getting groups seems to be a bit difficult. Hard to believe when there used to be a 3-4 person waiting list for groups here. So grab some friends and come on over on the Xev server, I've got a 19 cleric (Bathnaea) and a 20 warrior (Wroww), so if you need a healer or a tank, I've got both.
RE: Underused Zone
# Jun 24 2003 at 8:58 PM Rating: Decent
This zone used to be packed. I loved it in my 20's. The reason it is "dead" now is because of Luclin and POP. LOIO is not near a book to allow you to gate to the nexus and noone wants to be far away from their bank, buffs, etc. I don't blame people either. Unless your an Iksar, LOIO is a horribly inconvenient zone. You need to run from the windmill across the zone, to FM, go through FM, which is a dangerous and confusing zone for anyone of the right level to hunt in LOIO, then go through the OT (again dangerous for a 20's PC), then go to the book. Before POP we were all used to having a long "ride" home. But not now.

Sad Story

I read a stradegy write up and tried it. I have a Necro lvl 24, Human. The write up said go to OT and bind, get Sow, run to Lake Ill Omen, go to lake and hunt by windmill. I went to OT, bound myself, nobody would give me Sow, they act as if you aren't there. I spent a lot of time finding my way through Frontier Mts. I finally get to the lake and I think maybe I could bind here and where do I get supplies when I get low. So I look at map and see merchant area near top of map. I go there and merchant would no sell to me, so I think I am not welcome here, turn to go and get killed by Guard. I ask if anyone in OT can help me get my corpse, if I try I will be killed again. The replys were zero, so I said shouted "Thanks for all your help" then I get a reply, "we don't have time to babysit" and even after I explained my situation I could get no help. So I once again went to the Lake, stood at zone entrance and offered 50pp for someone to drag my corpse to a safer area where I could get it. Someone finally did it I paid and gated to OT, and waited for the boat and left, disgusted. I think if you are giving advice you should mention that someone may be KOS in that area and what Lvl, class, race, religion you are. It's not helping to say this place is great for hunting with no other info, it leads some to come who shouldn't. Why is a great place to hunt in a place where you have to go through a couple of zones more dangerous than the one you are going? I think this is bullcrap, they want you get killed on the way, they think it's fun to go looking for your corpse in dangerous places, why do you have to go get your corpse anyway? Isn't losing exp bad enough? Some idiot thought it up because the game makers think irritation is fun.
RE: Sad Story

SO SAD TOO BAD... you screwed up and you think that everyone else needs to drop what they are doing to help you? Players are busy. After helping a few newbies and getting NO thank you, I've had it. Maybe these players have had it too.

You got to level 24 and still don't know how to CON? You are a necro! Not liked by most! PoK definitely took one of the best aspects of this game, FACTION! It isn't very hard to be a (normally) KOS race or class anymore. All you need to do is to use the books, go thru PoK where you cannot (as far as I can tell) be KOS.

Instead of crying about not being getting any help, how about helping yourself? First by knowing how to play the game, second you don't always need SoW. There used to be a time when going out to hunt without SoW and Temperance was the norm. Now no one will hunt without buffs that make the game a non-challenge. At 24, you have feign death to help you if you get into trouble reaching your corpse.

I bet that the 24 levels this player has beats his/her age...by quite a bit.

Hmmmm, methinks there is something awry here. At level 8, necros get self-only invis - guards in LOIO do not see through it. At level 12, necros get lesser summon corpse - good for summoning corpses of players up to level 35. Either way, seems like that CR should have been a trivial task. Am I missing something?

CON EVERYTHING from as far away as you can. Especially anything that might be a guard or merchant. If you get THREATENING or worse, stop right there and turn around. I don't know what server you are on, but I apologize for the cads you have to deal with. If you want to come to Xev server, I'll help you ANYTIME and I know lots of others who would as well. And to those of you who don't have time to 'babysit', remember, we take names of people like you, and we remember who helps and who doesn't. Don't bother asking when it's your turn for a favor.

I agree with the lack of KoS information provided here and in a number of other sources. I was thinking of lvling my 20 Wood Elf Rogue here but no where I look can I get KoS info or mechant info for ones not of the Iksar. I could spend a lot of time getting factions up, but is it worth it or not? I do know that PC is great for xp and money without the run. I am wondering how well this zone compares?

Ok, went in with my 25 enchanter and had no problems in the tunnels. When I got to the other side, I kept getting jumped by decaying skellies. They broke the invis every time. At 25, there wasn't much aroung to worry about, so I was still safe. Most of the stuff in the tunnel was blue, so I wasn't too concerned. Also, I took the short route, not the easy one to find.

my necro at level 25 to 27 (still there) is soloing blues and getting decent exp. But most importantly its a safe zone. Stay near lake and pick off mobs, not many wander. If grouping at this level. I suggest the ledge in the sarnak fortress. You really won't find worthwhile cons anywhere else for a group. For 23ish to 25ish, I suggest Warslik Woods and the Skulking Brutes Cave. Great exp and Loot for soloing. Again, Im a Necro so be warned If you are another class for the soloing parts.

Well I'm am an Iksar Necromancer of 20 for the present time. I have lost many lvls due to my stupidity in KOS zones (I can admit that). When I first started this character I was simply bored outta my mind in Field of Bone! So being very untwinked and poor and with a great shortage of Bone chips I moved into LOIO. I had done the quests in FoB witht he Scorpion pincers and Pup skins (which I reccomend for any low lvl Iksar) later after I was in LOIO. I was lvl 1 and wanderered a great spot next to a door that a Crusader guraded at all times. So if I had trouble I ran to him and I always has Bone chips. I also got some decent cash for my spells off selling Bone chips to higher lvls and selling the swords the Decaying Skeletons dropped.

So even untwinked, as long as you can get the right information on where to hunt...LOIO is a great zone! I moved into the "Pit" at lvl 6 in FoB and then into Kurn's at lvl 10. I was able to lvl to 6 in no time at all and then was able to enjoy the great xp of the following zones! And now I'm bound at the mill gaining even more xp.

Just my opinion, but FYI for some reason people in LOIO yell ay you if you're a lower lvl...When I asked what to hunt at lvl 1 near Cab I got a steady stream of shouts directed to me and tells saying for me to leave. But I stayed and am happy I did.

IMO this is the worst zone in the game. Don't waste your time here, ever, unless theres an epic mob that needs to be killed or something. People are rude, the possibility for adds is very high, too many people which means mobs are gonna be taken, and the exp SUCKS! When I was on my Shaman, I had a Necro friend, and we were both very twinked out, lvl 19 or 20 or so, we decided to come here. We were in Kurn's, xp started getting a little slow, so we came here. We pulled a **RED** and killed it, slow but sure. To our dismay, the **** thing gave us around 1/6th of a blue each. That's all. No cool loot, nothing. So, on our run back to Kurn's running through WW we see a blue giant and decide to take it out on the off chance it might have a Floop. No Floop, but more exp than the red in LOIO. I dunno if it's true or not but I even heard there was an xp penalty for giants. Even if theres not, a blue giving more xp than a red? That's rediculous. Not to mention we were both evil races and we'd have to run to OT if we needed anything... at least in Kurn's one of us could get on an Iks mule and get food and water or what-not.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say here is DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!! Do Kurn's til 20-22 then head to UGuk. That's probably your best bet. Don't bother with Lake of Ill Manners.

Please let me comment, being that I got bound in FV looking to make the run to LOIO being a level 20 Rogue.

Almost immediately after I got off of the ship from Butcherblock I was waiting on a friend to be ready to head off... Next thing I know I get double hit for 71 HP from some large, worm looking mob. I ran off and he continued to easily take my frend as she ran off. I hid myself and saw him far off slaying lowlies, like myself. When I conned him... he was now indifferent. I was hoping that he had forgot about me... but, no... not that lucky. He found me and slayed me too. I was fortunate that a high level cleric (maybe it was a paladin) killed it and offered me a rez.

As far as the run goes... it can be quite a long one if you are hiding and sneaking without a SOW, especially. Watch out for the Arachnids that litter the stream with corpses from everyone running to get to the LOIO zone. I was told by my friend that they see through hide, invis, etc. When I conned them, they were indifferent to me. I made the trip a couple of times without a problem. Then one fatal trip I decided to get a close up look at these nice looking creatures. Let me just tell you, they don't like you standing too close to them, even while hidden. I was smacked really hard a couple of times and tried to dart up the big hill to the LOIO zone, with no success. I died.

The FV zone can be a challenging one to run through... you'll get the picture when you see all of the corpses laying around along the stream leading to the LOIO zone.

If you make it to the LOIO zone, I'd highly suggest that you hide/sneak to wherever it is you are going because everything will aggro if it is within your range. It's very, very easy to get three and four adds.. then you're dead and have to make the not-so-pleasant run from FV.

Just my experience.

there's a tunnel in a building not far from the bank in FV that takes you to the west edge of the zone. someone at the bank will usually sow you, and invis is even better. keep as close to the zone edge as you run north and when you come to the stream you just follow it left into LOIO. never died yet doing this.

Lake Omen and EQ
# Mar 23 2002 at 1:49 PM Rating: Default

Well there is a lot of problems I am having with EQ. Here is a sample session with my 30 Wizard. Log on med to full then buff self. Self buffs like shield and runeshield absorber take average five six casts of fizzle before they finally cast properly. Again I spend another five minutes medding. Ok now full mana I click boots (cost of 5250 plat took my entire bank to buy those) and finally see a couple of mobs blue to me should be easy. I cast AE snare and both resist. Cast it again and again and finally sticks to one mob. I run away and start the process over.

Asside from the usual brain washed go get a group answer, what am I doing wrong? What makes it worse is even if I manage to snare a pair or three blues to solo there is this new bug whereby everytime someone enters the zone I freeze up but the mobs do not and I get killed for no fault of my own but because of a game bug.

I've now allowed both my EQ accounts to lapse and have signed up for two accounts of DaoC for three months each and might return to EQ if they ever fix some of this garbage but soloing is simply impossible for me now and there are too many obnoxious loot whoring idiots in EQ to not solo a good deal of the time.

So far I see some things that R better in Daoc.

MUCH nicer people.
Easier to find groups.
Everyone can bind most cities
(like soulbinders EQ added after over 2 years)
No big corpse runs
No medding downtime.
No healing downtime.
Crafting WAY less expensive and people actually buy your crafted stuff!
No crafting destroyed your contents on combine.
No problems soloing most classes.
No begging people for rezzes.
No begging people for Teleports.
PvP is much more fun and staged intelligently.
Guilds add people without acting like a college sorority with initiations.
Fewer stuckup self-glorified jerks in game.

Things that are not better:

Assortment of monsters in any single realm are not as varied compared to the whole of all EQ zones mobs.

Too many mobs are just larger versions of same mobs you fought before like EQ does this too but not quite as much.

Farming - Can't farm like a greedy loot **** in Daoc because once its mega green nothing drops (as well as no exp like EQ.)

Power leveling - Can't easily power level like a uber jerk very well because higher level players healing you while you fight negates the exp. Some minimal buffing ahead of time is possible but tedious and doesnt help really all that much plus killing reds doesnt give much more exp than yellows and blues anyway.

Wow --

Five or six consecutive fizzles sounds like you need some serious spell skills practice. Abjuration is frequently one of those skills that falls behind.

Does the freeze-up occur only in Lake of Ill Omen, or in all zones? Seems like if it's one zone, it's their fault, and if it's all zones, the problem might be on your end. It's aggravating for sure, but if you want to play EQ it's worth checking into your computer system and connectivity.

Perhaps I'm an oddball, but I never ask for rezzes, teleports, buffs, SoW, or spare change. It's a pain to stand around and ask/beg for something. I'd rather go without!

Some servers seem to have better reputations than others in terms of player courtesy, tradeskill demand, etc. Guild behavior is completely guild-specific. Some guilds are comprised of nice people who like to be friendly and keep each other company. No initiation other than making friends with a guild member.

As far as the loot whoring goes, I don't put up with a group more than a few minutes if I detect that someone is ninja looting without even consulting the group. I offer to keep track of looting order, and suggest some simple guidelines. If they ignore it, I find another group.

Wizards are notoriously difficult to solo, whereas other classes (Druid, Bard, etc) have a much easier time soloing. If you are trying to solo a group-dependent class, and don't have your skills maxed, it's no wonder you're having difficulties.

But hey, if you don't enjoy EQ, it wouldn't be wise to suggest you return. More networked games are being released. Reconsider your expectations, and keep looking for a fun game.

Well, I spent about 6 months in DAoC. I have had a couple of level 20 characters and a Level 41 Theurgist.

Its sounds to me like your DAoC experience is that of a lower level character. Theurgists are the best soloing class in the game and I pretty much gave up on soloing after level 30. The xp gain is simply too slow.

Some recent changes have moved some of the popularity of zones, particularly the itemization of the high level outside zones (in Albion's case that would be Lyonesse).

My experience is that the game, after a while feels small. One needs to play in all 3 realms to get a wide number of zones to play in. Since one can't play more than one side on a server it leads to some problems with guilding in the long term.

Many of the advantages that you state are correct, in particular the corpse run aspect. I find this aspect appealing to a casual gamer like myself. No raid no matter how big needs to matter very much. You lose some XP (which you do in EQ as well), but you never lose items.

The real issue in DAoC is RvR. RvR (or organized PvP) is the purpose of the high end game. It is simply too quick on group versus group combat. They are also working on mezzes/stuns/roots as this has somewhat unbalanced things (Running into a large group of Midgard Healers is bad). Some spell lines and classes have significant issues (Wardens, Cabalists, Shamans as examples).

I'd like to piggyback what Dayzed said. I have never had the pleasure of playing DAOC so I too am swayed toward EQ.

Since Dayzed did a good job talking about the philosophy that can make EQ more fun, I'll talk about some strategy/technical things that could improve your situation.

**Stategy**
Fizzles - I have found that when I play a caster, or any class for that matter, it is well worth the time and effort to raise your skills in a safe zone. For casters, pick a lvl 1 spell of that category (divination, evocation, etc) and cast until your mana bar is empty. Med and pick the next lvl 1 spell of the next category and do the same until you are maxed out for your lvl (try http://eq.castersrealm.com for skill caps). This will not only help with your fizzles but will also decrease your chance of being resisted.

**Technical**
Freezing when people zone - If you truly do freeze every time someone zones you may want to go through formal channels with EQ to have them look into it (do a "/petition" in game). It may be a bug that they need to work on. It would also be worth while to look into the FAQ page on the everquest homepage (http://www.everquest.com) or the hardware that you have. I'm assuming that you have an uber gaming computer like most people I meet but if you don't, look into increasing RAM and possibly HDD space and or processor speed.

All in all I have enjoyed my time in Norrath. I am a pretty casual player and have made some fun friends in game. I hope this helps.

First of all, let me say that I cannot compare Daoc with EQ because I haven't played the former. That being said, and taking into account all that i've heard about Daoc from peeps that have played it quite a bit, I have stayed with EQ for the following reasons:

*If people annoy me or are "stuckup self-glorified jerks", I simply leave and find another group/place to hunt. There are hundreds of zones and hundreds of options as to where to hunt...if you aren't happy with whoever you're with, go someplace else. It's a CHOICE whether to stay and get irritated or moving on and being happy.

*The allure of EQ is that it is EVERquest. Putting time in, and the difficulty of that time spent (i.e. medding, finding groups/guilds, binding/corpse runs, getting ports, figuring out how to solo your character, etc etc.) makes the reward so much more enjoyable. The reason EQ has kept its popularity for so long is probably because they don't just "hand out" things to all players that want. YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR IT. If it was easy to level up, solo, get good weaps/armor, etc etc, the draw or fun of the game would be lost after a few months. Life isn't easy...either is EQ. If you work hard, you get the reward...funny how eq is similar.

*As in RL, the attitude you approach the game with is usually what you'll see in return. If you're getting bent outta shape over how people are acting toward you, chances are you've already done or said something that cast you out as one of those people that don't work well in a group and/or guild. The term 'reap what you sow' comes to mind...

EQ wasn't built to make things easy. If you learn from your mistakes, come prepared, LEARN HOW TO PLAY YOUR CHARACTER, KNOW YOUR ROLE IN THE GROUP, and figure out how to ignore the stuff that makes you irritated, I think you'll find your time in Norrath to be much more enjoyable...IF you are willing to put in the time.

Casters (Like myself) can self-bind just about anywhere in LOIO that has a standing structure. Somethimes it doesn't work, but still you can self-bind at Wind Mill West Cabilis out as far as the ruins and a few other places in LOIO. If you happen to be a melee class...well you'll have the privelage of being bound in Cab or FV! It's a pain, yes, but your only choice I'm afraid.

Melee classes can get bound at FV (I don't know if there is a soulbinder, but send a shout out and another pc will usually hook you up). As for casters, I "believe" they can bind anywhere with the help of the right spell.

Yes, casters can self-bind in this zone. Many caster toons are bound in the windmill while in this zone.

Overall, a fun zone, but I still prefer leveling in dungeons.

This just a tip for those that find the for a little too crowded but still want a good pull spot that won't get you trained, KS'd, or jumped on by any local wandering mobs. It's easy to find, it's completely safe, it's easy to get out in case you do get into trouble...in my very humble opinion, if you're hunting the Sarnak Fort, this is among the best spots.

Go to the backdoor of the fort. Go in and up the tunnel to the fork. Take a right and go straight down the hall...you'll find yourself in a room inside the fort. Nothing spawns here...nothing wanders in here...nothing can be trained here...and yet, you're INSIDE the fort. Have yer party sit n' wait and get your puller to head down the hall a bit. The first pull is the only one you have to worry about in terms of getting multiple Sarnies...even then, it's rare. And if you do get in trouble, you're super close to Frontier Mountain zone.

I made a lot of money and a lot of people happy by bringing them to this place and showing them how much loot/xp a group can get here. Backdoor groups might come in to pull...stare at your party and grumble about you taking most of their pulls but hey, they could have just as easily moved in to where you're sitting, right? And they still have the two spawns in the entryway and the locals outside the backdoor.

Also, your chances of getting a Sarnak Emblazened Tabard are pretty good here since it seems the Sarnak Adherants seem to spawn very regulary down the hall to the left outside that room.

just a thought...get camo'd and check it out for yourself...it's a great spot, trust me. Of course, it's been so long since i've hunted the Sarnak Fort, this room could be a well-known camp now! :)

Since there is such a rediculous amount of twinks out there on some servers, people need to realize when they say what level can have a good time in a particular zone, they should mention whether they are twinked or not. This can have a major impact on someone who isn't. Hope this helps somehow..:)

First of all I would like to say that LOIO is a really cool zone as far as the Diversity of life and general expierience opportunity. Also, beleive it or not, A level 15 can solo WITHOUT buffs. I only say this because A) I know a lot of people who think it is impossible to solo here,B) I have personally soloed to 16 hear by myself, and C) I noticed almost everyone who post messages seems to think that you must always group, which isn't true, it may be safer, but grouping gives less expierience than soloing (in most cases). Also I would like to add that (thought it may be abvious to many) that the higher level you get, the less accurate the con you get. I have conned a creature that was my level and it conned blue, sayin it looked like a even match. I conned another creature and it was yellow but said it looked like I would have the upper hand. I dont know why this is but I just thought I would say this. I am level 16 despite what the signature below says.

I managed to solo here from level 17 to 28, and i then switched to OT... This is with my SK however and she is just slightly twinked so id otn know how easy or difficult it would be to solo here if you were just starting out with relatively low level gear. I tried killing stuff with my usual weapons but no armour and found that i lost about double the exp that i normally did but seeing as i was fear kiting for most of the time anyway, it didnt make too much of a difference as mobs werent hitting me much.
Great zone for fear kiting and druid kiting i think :)

LOIO on PVP
# Nov 07 2001 at 9:11 PM Rating: Good
I hunted this zone extensively with my Ranger on the Torv server. So, when my Dwarf Paladin reached level 20 on the PVP server Tallon Zek, I headed on over. To my surprise virtually nobody hunts here on PVP, at least on Tallon Zek. Not even Iksar. I have now gone almost all the way to level 23 in LOIO and have yet to see more than 20 people in the zone. Even at primetime. It is truly amazing.

What PVP experiences I've had have been very enjoyable. Mostly they involve Iksar, but I have encountered a few xteamers here. Figures. What I dont understand is why people are afraid of this zone on PVP. The run from FV is easy for the lighties if you die. Non Iksar darks have a bit longer run from Overthere. Remember, you can bind in FM as a melee type. I believe the bind point is in the south west corner.

So, come on over if you play on Tallon Zek. Fight a little. Get some great experience and works your skills. Kill an Iksar SK. Or, if you are a dark type, just click who to see who is in the zone. My name is Ironhom Hammerforge. I am a Paladin of Brell. If you attack me while I'm grouped you'd better bring friends. Otherwise I'll pretty much fight anyone one on one.

My first experience here was grouping fighting either goblins or sarnak. Very good xp here, especially fighting sarnaks.
I had thought for a while that this zone would be next to impossible to kite.
I was quite wrong. I was kiting queen last night here, kiting blues and whites and having to do only a little melee'ing with them. (Ok, bearing in mind, folks, that I have just begun kiting and haven't worked up to being able to kite yellows and reds yet :P)
Depending on graphics, I either get very poor visibility here (which is bad for kiting) or very good visibility (which is good for kiting). Last night, I was on a machine where kiting here was easy.
Dispite the number of people in the zone (and around the mill) I never once had to tell someone I was kiting the mob I pulled. Most of my kiting was pulling blues and a white from the area around the mill. No competing for my kills, and I could go rest at the mill. I also found it no problem to find breezes, which makes kiting that much easier IME. The mill area is also well-hunted enough that bad adds aren't as big a problem, and if you have tracking, you will always be able to find a mob.
I wanted to post this for those like me who are still newish to the zone and looking for different things they can do. While druids certainly don't have a problem finding a group here, if you either don't have time or desire to group, you will still be able to make the XP here. Atleast at 24, which is where I am.
Peace to you and Good Journey

Tatiyanna

oh, PS. I found the cats easiest by far on the kiting. But I was suprised that I was able to kite the sarnaks (who normally have high resists to important kiting spells like snare) very well. And, ofcourse, goblins.

If you hunt solo here- the exp will be good, but you will likely get too many "adds" to handle and you will die more than you ding.
The key to this zone is knowing where to hunt at what levels.
The windmill is for those just starting in the zone 14-20, the skelle hut is for those groups with two healer types a monk a warrior and a pally (watch out for nasty adds) and the Sarnak Fort is for those players ready to be in full groups- by this tim ein your characters carreer you should know your roll in a group. This is the KEY- know your roll and play it well. If you are a healer/caster know when to heal and when to med (dont melee unless your oom and in trouble!!!) If you are a shaman or druid remember to keep your best buffs on your MAIN tank, and a nice STR buff on assist tanks, and Sow on everyone (just incase)
If you are a warrior- remember to taunt everything off of your casters/healers at all costs, if you are an assist tank remember to ASSIST- and attack the same mob as the main tank.
OK nuff about learning your roll-
The Sarnak fort is the best exp in the zone- bar none. There are three main camp sites for this fort- the front door, the inside ledge and the back door. To hunt these camps you should be 21 or better and being twinked a bit always helps. The fort is for Full groups but it can be done with less if you are willing to have more downtime and if you dont mind running for your life once in a while Heh... Goodluck to you all.

I was wondering if Iskar were the altime evils of the lands so I went to the Main connector that comes from all the other worlds to the myserious Kunark. As I walked along the strait path to the lake in the center i saw a group of elves, barbarians, erudites, etc. Many were necromancers and warriors. Mostly arcane users. As I walked along the trees I saw an eruduite meditating with his pet an earth elemental. Since I was an iskar, I took a whole turn around him and went to the lake while he was meditating I scared him in his face and said "what is your name" Viciously he casted root on me and my whole armor was jolted with nothing. I couldnt move but he ran getting the rest of the Eruduites and barbarians, etc. I was surrounded by a vast number of people who hated my kind. Being at level 17 against 50+ and up, I pleaded for them not to kill me (it was a pvp server and if they killed me i wouldnt get my stuff back) I gave them money such as throwing 50 plat on the ground begging in emotes for them not to strike me down. One spoke and said what is your name. I said Sorulak and he smirked "Leave him be." Thankfully I said if I could watch them train as they killed Sarnaks,Warbones, etc. Since I was there, I met this enchanter who like being a wolf all the time. We talked and when She killed a Sarnak, I saw a group of more people of mostly humans and eruduites coming at me in groups. I stood from my resting place and had wide eyes on me, They looked at me and said " What is he doing here, you know hes not our kind, kill him and drag his corpse to the middle of the lake so he can never retrieve it util he is a high level" I nearly cried on my comp because I had worked so hard to get my armor and weapons. They cast root on me and I began Begging again not to kill me. before I knew it I saw my corpse from above and my health bar was on the brink of death. Before the Human killed me at my grave with his mighty ax, he said " go to your leader (I was in a guild) and tell him/her that we will not tolerate any Iskar here in OUR LANDS ( keep in mind "OUR lANDS") He then lowered his ax and told the rest of the group to move to another hotspot to train. I was left there waiting to be killed by a sarnak or something of a kind. Root was fading but a poison spell had been cast on me and I knew I was dying. I quickly tried to mend wounds to heal my self but I failed. I was left there waiting to be respawned back to cabbilis to retrieve my corpse. When I took the long journey back to the lake MY CORPSE WAS GONE! It was just about 50 fett ahead of me in the lake bobbing like a dead fish. I got my Items and returned to the surface when I saw 5 Eruduites standing there all males and with pets of all the elements. The pets chased me back to the zone of lake of ill omen where they were slautered by Iskar soilders. I never returned to the Lake of ill omen after that. And as for the 5 eruduites... I saw them once more on a nearby hill next to the town. all standing in unity like monks Before I left into Cabbilis. Thats my story.

The difference between 512 and 128 megs isn't going to make much of a difference in network utilization and overall communication. If you want to find ways to make things more efficiant consider upgrading your OS, or getting the latest version of DirectX. Then theres the obvious, upgrading 56K to a cable or dsl connection. In the gaming and business world lag is almost always a case of over crowded servers, or poor programming (EQ is about the best example of poor programming there is). Take into consideration every time anyone, pc or npc, in zone moves, emotes, shouts, oocs, says, punches, slices, moves, breathes, or thinks, the server and EACH client in the zone, tell more to each other than most people can say in 5 minutes. Even though loio is probably less than oasis, on the client population side, it is much more complex overall than oasis. I am able to run EQ with absolutely no lag, on a 500 mhz laptop with 128mb and an ATI rage mobile 4meg video card. The difference is I am using a T1 line and Windows XP beta (.NET is very network efficiant).

There is a command in the eqclient.ini file that can turn off the plant animations. I knew wht it was once, but I forget it now. Maybe somebody will remember and post it here.

On the hardware side, how much ram do you have? I am running a 550MHz with 512 ram, the lag in Kunark averages about 6% or so, with spikes into the yellow. Haven't defragged in months though, that may help too.

Playable in the old world but forget about kunark...especially zones like waslik woods..( i hate trees!)
anyhow like i said, any advise as how to turn off the plant animation would be welcome.

Open your eqclient.ini file in your eq directory. There should be a line for "Grasseffects" or something similar. Pretty obvious Once you see it which line it is. It's either a TRUE / FALSE or 0 / 1 line. Change it's status to opposite of what it is. It will make a big difference.

If you have alot of lag you might want to change two other settings while in eqclient.ini. Change "ServerFilter = 0" to "ServerFilter = 1" this vastly improved lag in zones such as Bazaar where you have huge number of players all in one place. Change "ShowDynamicLights = TRUE" to FALSE. This change effects special lighting like torch flickers and lightstones but is a fair tradeoff if you have lag problems.

I run with all these changes and it drasticly improved things in most lag situations. (Nothing will help fix the Bazaar... <grin>)

After corpse run (luckly I binded in FV right before i ran to cailbas, sp,) found a group and got almost 2 yellows in 3 hours. For a lvl 22 wizard the best i have seen was 2 yellows in a day of 12 hours of playing and that was a few lvl's ago. Plan to stay here until I hit 28 or 30 wooo wooo, lot not that great only got about 15pp in the 3 hours, but guess you get one or the other.

Stay here! Period. I came here at 24, and got to 29 in about three days of play time. Depending on your class, grouping is probably your best bet. As mobs roam a lot here, so ADDs are common.

Insiduous Fever is a 19th level shaman spell (others might have it too) whose effect is to reduce the target's disease save by 29.

I would say the effect is worthless unless you are fighting with someone like a shaman (or SK/necro?) that casts damaging disease spells. In that case it would be could to help soften the target before the disease spell was cast.

There is no bank in LOIO, period. Either FV, or Cabilis, but your Ogre should be KoS to both...so you'll have to wax A LOT of mobs to raise your faction.
