stupid
# Jul 22 2004 at 11:41 PM Rating: Decent
this and the earring of woven bark should be for every class OTHER than the ones who can already cast its effect. its pointless after they get a better buff or snare sure it saves mana but its obsolete after they get a better spell. at least other classes would get some use out of it. damn...
heh a monk that wishes he could cast snare

A) Scale of Wolf is not SOW! it is nothing like sow other thing the fact it makes ur run faster. For those who don't know scale of wolf is alot faster then sow but if u get hit 1 time it gets knocked off u much like selo's song of travel for bards.

B) Even if it was sow for only those that can cause it saving mana isn't the reason for having it. The reason for having it is it saves a buff slot leaving room for another dot or nuke to be scribed.
good deal... Again!

That's because Beastlords don't get the Scale of Wolf spell period. They get SoW, yes, but not Scale of Wolf, which is faster but breaks when you attack something or cast a spell.

I am 32 Druid, and have had this for awhile. I already have the spell, and it totally sucks that I cant access the spell via the earring! Not fair Verant to make us wait for the effect when we have the spell!

A friend of mine just bought this for 200 on Luclin. Since the only people that can wear it can already cast the spell at level 34 (except BL not sure when they get it) it just saves a slot and some mana. If it's not insta cast I don't see it worth more than 200 because it's just a convinience item that people can do without if they don't want to pay for the item. And the stats for a level 49, when the item is clickable, are pretty low. Now, if it was insta cast SoW all/all I think the price would be insane!

# Jun 04 2002 at 8:55 PM Rating: Decent
Well I bought one for 2k yesterday, and although I'm happy with the price, I am dissapointed that I will not be able to use the spell on it for 5 more levels. I was hoping so much that it would work at level 45. *sighs*

Regardless, it frees up a gem, and I travel so much getting people to and fro or just getting tradeskill supplies, that I will want to use this item. Also, in a pinch, Scale of Wolf overwrites SoW if you get in trouble and need an extra boost of speed. I can already anticipate using it. :)
*Run-run-run* Ack! Not fast enough! *stop* *twist left* *hotkey click* *Zoom!* Heh.

I still think it should be usable at level 45 though! *grumps*

You need to be level 50 to use this item. And there is no component to use this effect, it's the same as casting it.
scale of wolf
# Dec 13 2001 at 6:39 AM Rating: Default

to those who think that scale of wolf is useless try being a barbarian shm and having to run from e commons to halas scale is a big improvement over sow trust me. i definatelly want one and either earring of cleansig or purity atm i dont wear earrings. picky on what i get. still sitting at 190 wis none the less. now if only we could use those snare earrings us shms would be king :)

You run places a lot... all the time you're not in the process of PLing or getting exp for yourself... with this its not a hastle at all to wear and scale yourself every time you cast a spell. You never have to mem it -- just stick the spell in the back of your spellbook with your lowbie/useless spells.

This item isn't clickable until level 49. It didn't work on my 48 druid, but did at 49.

The cast time seems to be very similar to the normal scale wolf spell. I think it's a very useful item for quick travelling through zones - if you don't have a bard with you, of course! :-)

Some one in EC was selling this and I decided to try before buy. I gave an ooc that I had his earing and would return it before witnesses. I put it on and started running with sow. I stoped and cast. Loong cast time but it overwrote my sow and I took of and was halling but. Beleave me it is way faster than sow. I did not see the 35 mana but only the 35 hp and +1 wis so i opted not to buy. Neither of us knew what it was worth. I realy should have bought it. I use Scale all the time when traveling. It doesnt drop when you zone just when you cast.
What is Scale of wolf?
# Oct 16 2001 at 7:58 AM Rating: Decent
What is scale of wolf? I had the spell so all i know is its a lvl 52 shaman spell (sold it fer 150pp on saryryn) so I was just wondering what this effect does. Is it similar to SOW and spirit of the cheetah? Or is it a buff like Spirit of the Monkey and Hippo(is that it?, spirit of the Hippo? Soandso gains the weight of a Hippopatamus... :)

RE: What is Scale of wolf?
# Oct 16 2001 at 11:59 AM Rating: Decent
Scale of the Wolf is a level 29 Druid spell. It is faster than SoW, but if you attack or cast a spell it drops and you have nothing for speed.
I dont know if Shamans get this...

I think you are talking about :

Spirit of Scale Upgrade to Spirit of Wolf Group +70% speed. This is a Druid and Shaman spell. Level 53 for druids.
RE: What is Scale of wolf?
# Oct 16 2001 at 11:55 PM Rating: Excellent
Spirit of Scale (53 dru, 52 shm) also wears off when you attack or cast a spell.

Once you have 200 wisdom, each additional wisdom point is worth 5 mana. So this is the equivalent of an 8 wisdom earring with 2AC, 35 hit points, and an awesome right click spell. (I have my epic shaman boots and neither they NOR my self-cast SoW are close to being as fast as Scale of Wolf).

Worth more than an Ivandyr's Hoop, that's for sure.

I beg to differ ;) the scale of wolf is much more likly to save your life than SoW, there are many things that will out-run you with SoW scale of wolf is considerbly faster. I'll let you off with the outside usage cos using Scale to kite ain't exactly a smart thing to do ;). But the stats aren't that bad, I would much rather have this than a forest loop as mana is much better to have than lots of wis gear IMO and HP is always a handy thing to have around. Good item that could be better but I definatly wouldn't mind one on my ear.

Let's see, Scale of Wolf drops if you cast a spell or attack (but not if you are attacked). Spirit of Wolf has a speed bonus depending upon the level (not sure if caster or recipient), and Scale is supposed to be faster than Spirit. However, at level 45, performing speed trials (cross West karana with Spirit one way and Scale the other), I can see no difference between Scale and Spirit. I can race a person 5 levels above me with Spirit, and they pass me all the time.

I guess I will give one to my druid alt and see what level one needs to be to click on it. Time will tell the value of this item, but I predict it will be at least the value of a black sapphire earring.
RE: Hmmm
# Oct 11 2001 at 9:30 PM Rating: Decent
That's a rather strange statement, considering that it gives 10 more hps and the same mana as the gold BS earring and 10 more mana and the same hps as the electrum BS earring, in addition to 2 AC and 1 wis, and a rightclickable spell that you don't have to mem or waste mana on. So how you managed to figure out that this is less valuable than something with lower stats, I don't know.
RE: Hmmm
# Oct 12 2001 at 6:16 AM Rating: Default
right click doesnt really matter when the spell isnt useful...
RE: Hmmm
# Oct 12 2001 at 1:48 PM Rating: Decent
Scale of Wolf *is* faster than SoW, noticably so. Sure, the effect isn't the end all be all, but its a handy traveling spell (West Karana or the Dreadlands, anyone?) and it saves you from having to med it.

So what's the beef?
Hmmm

Scale of wolf.. a potential safe escape without having to mess with saving a slot for a 15 minute recycle time spell....

and mages get to summon a stacck of water...

Anyone else think there is a ***** going on here?

You're thinking of Spirit of Cheetah. Scale of Wolf is trash, I've never once used that spell. Our other earring has the effect of level 1 snare, you have no room to complain, really.

If you have never once used the spell, how do you know it's trash? Granted it has a very specific use, and is useless in any type of combat situation. But when you want to go to qeynos, or cross Overthere, or any other long run through an area you wont be fighting in, this spell is great. Personally, i use it all the time for travel. ex: Port to NK, cast scale of wolf (SCoW), and save a bunch of time on the trip to Qeynos/Halas/Permafrost.

Now with this earing, I could see using it as an escape device, depending on the casting time. Assuming you dont want to use an evac spell for some reason like if there are no nearby rings to get back quickly. Map it to a hotkey, click off SoW, hit SCoW, and run like hell. VI changed it a while back so it doens't drop if you get hit anymore, only if YOU cast or attack.

What's wrong with click effect of lv 1 snare? i see that as being a lot more usefull than either everfount or scale of wolf... as long as the click effect doesn't have a long casting time, it'll just go to save u a spell slot... give a click effect to an enchante that casts mez or some mundane spell and he'll be happy, just think of all the times they have to switch spells mid battle... VI is just running out of ideas... since there will be horses implemented with luclin, i think what VI needs to do is to add an upgrade to horses : LLAMAS
i ask you to answer my question please, what could be funnier than a dwarf riding a llama?
and did anyone see the new screenshots and think ogres just look stupid now? they dont look cool and funny anymore, they dont have flat funny looking grinnin faces, they just look like barbarians who got hooked on steroids... haha n/m they look like abobo from double dragon... and OMG gnomes look like mini-me... they dont look sinister and quietly evil... and why are there no screenshots of DWARVES ?!?!?!
i hope and pray that VI is just holding back the screenshots of dwarves cuz they're taking extra time to add detail and genious to the character models of the supreme race... dwarves better still be damn sexy or the whole red light district in Kaladim will go bankrupt and the economy of all of Faydwer will perish

"How do you do Nothing?" asked Pooh.
"Well, it's when people call out at you just as you're going off to do it, `What are you going to do, Christopher Robin?' and you say, `Oh, nothing' and then you go and do it. It means just going along, listening to all the things you can't hear, and not bothering."
RE: Hmmm
# Oct 11 2001 at 6:23 PM Rating: Decent
What's wrong with click effect of lvl 1 snare, you ask? Just that snare has like a 2-3 min duration...at the level needed to obtain this item, all the druids will have Ensnare, which lasts about 10 min (awesome) and for only 35 mana. On the other hand, everyone seems to be skipping over the fact that this earring is great for shamans :)
Nice
# Oct 11 2001 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent
This could be a nice item depending on the casting time.
