this stuff rocks(when imbued that is)

nothing personal to all of you who like to spout off about things before looking into them. but a full set of this stuff will give u 60 str and wieghs only 26.6 stone! that means you get an extra 33.4 wt capacity just by wearing this stuff, thats amazing for my erudite cleric that started with a 70 str. the prexus imbued also gives 29 wis, 8 int, over 100 hp, over 150 mana, around 70 to svp, almost 40 dex, and almost 20 to agi! a full set will grant you a 149 ac bonus, which isn't bad at all for a class that barely fights by the time they can get this stuff. now for the fashion consious players, this stuff is some of the coolest things an erudite can wear, just by looks alone, plus its rather rare to see someone in a full set running around(got to love individuality ;p). imho its well worth the day or so to camp the terrorantula. despite its rare spawn rate, it will always drop at least 1 and up to 5 silks and almost always at least 3 on average. its a lvl 37-40, 60 ft tall spider with a desent amount of health and stackable poison and it can spawn a few times an hr or as long as every few hrs. but i know several ppl that have solo'd it with easy in there mid-40's which means with a decent group u can do this around 35-40 to pass the time while helpin the others in your group who may be questing jboots(not to mention the named skellie that drops the charred bone chios that r needed for that sweet cleric helm quest, hehe). the imbued versions actually triv sooner than the normal stuff as well (around 120 for imbued and 170 for regular) so with a decent tailoring of around 150, you shouldn't fail to many times at this. plus even though i semi twink most of my new chrs, i believe you should have to wait for some of the nice stuff and this is very definatly still quite nice into your 40's for a full set or even for those odd crap peices u still may be wearing and want to change out for somethin decent. the other two imbued versions r also rather decent, quelious gets 2 cha and svd to every piece and better hp bonuses on a few pieces, yet doesn't get much dex and a little less agi. then the cazic thule version gets about the same int bonus as the wis on the prexus version and only 8 wis, and also gets decent bonuses with all the physical stats while taking a negative 2 cha hit per piece, so with the wt/str bonus and half decent ac and all the other great bonuses, it's not to bad for those weak erudite sk's either. scough at this stuff all u want but this is what i'll b wearing till i can get the week off from work in my higher lvls to do plane raids for my final major equip up grades. ;D
How Much?

Just wondering what kind of Plat I need to shell out for this.

Also, what level of skill is necessary to make this?

It costs roughly 12,000 pp to make a full set of steesilk armor. Doesn't matter whether it's the imbued stuff or the plain stuff.

I usually only charge 1kpp for the plain and 2kpp for suit of imbued, because so few people actually ask for the stuff. (I use it mainly for tailoring skillups, so I'm glad for someone to use it AND take it out of my inventory! *giggle, grin*) Just make sure whoever makes it for you has enough gems for the imbued. I think it's 14 pieces of armor for full set, so that would be 14 black pearls for Neriad (Prexus), 14 amber for Fulvous (Cazic-Thule), and 14 topaz for Serene (Quellious)
One mad Erudite

Well, I am mad at Verant again (no big suprise there) for one simple reason. One of my guildmates, a wizard, shows up one day wearing this SWEET Enchanted Tier'Dal chain armor! Armor, I think...cultural stuff that everyone has been talking about. So, I go to some sites and I actually see a pic of the Erudite armor..the look totally rocks compared to his. So, I start thinking...Terrorantula, here I come! Then, I see that only cle, pal, and SK can use this!?
What the hell is this? Are you racist against da black man ;) Come on Verant start playing fair and balanced like you claim. If ALL DEs can wear their armor then by damn ALL of EVERY race should be able to wear theirs!
This is not a cry for some overblown stats, all I want is to be able to take off my robe and wear something like this to "social functions". How is THAT gonna unbalance the game?
Do us some justice and fix this please...

Umm... You're a wizard. That's why you cant wear this BREASTPLATE, lol.
Um

Noone noticed that it gives no wis bonus? As an erudite, this saddens me so. And they need to make Terrorantula a common spawn if you need so much to up this skill.

If you look you will see this ISN'T the Imbued version. If this piece follows the normal route. It will get the stat bonuses that Imbuing give.

Not sure exectly but the Quellious imbue gives +3 Wis and +2 on one other stat, not sure which off hand

Gee. that would be great. If I were a cleric of Quellious. Prexus was offering a better sign up package for me ;)
Shadow Knights Also
# Jul 03 2001 at 7:26 AM Rating: Decent
If you take a look on EQ Traders they show this armor as being wearable by Shadow Knights also. I actually have an Erudite SK working his skill up now.

This is actually really nice stuff. But to bad by the time you could kill that big guy you will have better stuff.
erudites got the shaft
# Jul 03 2001 at 5:32 AM Rating: Default
Man, Erudites got screwed on thier racial armor. Only 2 classes can use it, it involves a higher level mob, the skill is expensive to raise to the level needed to make the stuff, the stats are terrible compared to other racial armors and you will never sell one piece and make a profit. Verant needs to buff it up, add some pieces for the casters and either lower the skill needed for it or lower the prices on the materials. And to comment on what was said earlier about how it has a good weight for a weak race, look at the High Elf racial armor. The chain is wearable by pure casters and is much lighter with only slightly less AC. Even the plate is very light and has killer AC for player made gear. Sorry Erudites, but it looks like you guys got shafted again =(

Funny thing though, terrorantula is a very rare spawn. And also, there are plenty of breastplates out there with better stats than this, not all from uber encounters.
Wow
# Jul 02 2001 at 5:24 PM Rating: Decent
And all I have to do is kill the Terrorantula a few times (not to mention getting it to pop a few times), buy some platinum thread, raise my tailoring skill to high levels, be an Erudite, fail, repeat, fail, repeat, and finally succeed? Sign me up! LOL
Granted, I don't know ALL the details on creating this armor, but given the fact that the clas-specific quested armors (Armor of Ro, the golden clerical plate, and Darkforge [which makes me wonder if Shadow Knight should be listed up there under classes]) have similar AC, similar stats (granted, not as good), and cost several thousand plat less (quested for OR simply purchased), this armor seems like kind of a joke.

Several points:

1. At 4.5 stone, this is a very light breastplate for a traditionally weak race.

2. Short of dragon/planes loot, you'll be hard pressed to find a better piece. Terrorantula, while highish level, is hardly on a par with a dragon.

3. The steelsilk armor has a VERY unique look, that alone is enough for some players.

4. Some people LIKE doing tradeskills, and making unique/rare items themselves, rather than joining the long line to camp the uber-item-of-the-week.

5. There are Imbued versions of Steelsilk (only 1 piece of which I've even heard about).

All that said, there is no way, I personally would expend the effort to gather/fund/create these items, but I like the fact that they exist.

Some very good points.

1. I agree wholeheartedly

2. I disagree here, citing Treeweave, EBBP, and quested armors.

3. This would provide incentive to me, I like lookin' good in my armor (why I am wearing BI mail and not a bronze BP, and yes I am that low level), LOL.

4. I have ventured into tailoring and found it fairly enjoyable, though it seems that for this and other tradeskills, you must work a great deal to make items that may or may not be worth it in the end, given the quality of items I've seen coming out of high-end Velious zones and comparing them to the new Velious tailoring. As for camping uber-mobs, that is my least favorite part of the game. Though she ain't exactly uber, I spent a week camping Pyzjn once, and the end result was that all my guildmates gained a few levels and I got about fifteen stacks of bone chips, LOL.

5. Looking at the Imbued Steelsilk Veil in todays update, this seems a VERY valid point, as an 8ac +5wis item, plus the other stats, rivals some of the better face items.

Overall, it is just a matter of waiting and seeing whether or not people take the time to be able to make this stuff, and when they do (and if I have the money) I'll buy it. = )

And thanks for a engrossing discussion, Garulf

RE: Wow

Counter-point...

All cultural plate BPs have a higher AC than this. Many of them have better stats, too.

I am wondering if anyone has made one of these? Considering the assumed rarity of tarantula silks, I would think that one being made would be quite the awesome achievement. I congradulate the tailor if it has.

Of course it's been made... how would anyone know the stats if it hasn't? ;)

Well, they COULD load it up using an EQ emulator, and though I have never used such software, I imagine you could figure them out that way. : )
