Bleh, since April I've upgraded to Exquisite VBS, and got a group to gank Sonadso the Cold near at the Arena for the Sceptre of Mastery (13/21 6sta 6agi). Nice discussion on that Sceptre...

Btw, do you expect your puller to pull and deal damage too? I've found pulling in ToV to be kind of unpleasant what with TB, slime, HT's, etc stinging you and I tend to lay off the mob for about half a minute give or take to NOT generate any aggro if I can help it. Pulling Hate, obviously you'd rather not have the puller need to engage, shrooms/juggers are simple enough to engage I'll admit.

It's all the same really...you could probably find Dipper on Xev plodding along the Celestial Fists quest for the next few weeks; I finally broke down and started it yesterday

Dipper you have full Golden Star and no epic?

You use a 32/37 weapon? our paladins have better weapons that that. If you were in my guild i'd take you aside and explain that a monk's job is to do damage. . .

Tell you something, ladies and gentlemen, about ToV and the Kael quests. When you are in a guild able to kill in ToV and acquire the patterns for the quests and do this every night and on the weekends...I'm just glad I didn't waste my time trying for my Celestial Fists. I spend >ALL< my time raiding with the guild, what little I have to spend.

So what this amounts to is: I consider ToV to be a mini-All/All-Plane raid. We collect the gems in exp groups, or just for the fun of it, then we raid ToV. Then we collect our armors. I don't have the time to spend camping spawns. Pulling Elder temple defenders and drakes is more of a rush =) Get up there in levels and try it. You won't even miss the stats from CFs once you are equipped right! read: Kael armor for us fighters ;)

I dont know if i read your post right... but are you saying that you wont miss the stats from the Monk Epic if you have this instead?

ahem

Celestial Fists
AC: +15 Str: +20 Sta: +10 Agi: +10 Dex: +10 Magic Resist: +10 Fire Resist: +10 Cold Resist: +10 Poison Resist: +10 Disease Resist: +10 HP: +100
Weight: 0.1

the CFs has 2 more ac and over all much better stats, makes your h2h dam/del better.. and oh yeah, the effect...

These gloves ARE really nice tho, and if you are in a guild that happens to get the items needed for it and no druids are wanting... well... why the hell not? It's not like they suck... I just dont think that these can replace CFs...

You're correct. I don't really miss the stats, I have full Kael armor except for the silly hat, and use a Massive Velium Brawl Stick. I don't raid without max haste and buffage and since Kunark came out and I got my first 2hb, my RFS, I haven't used hand to hand primarily. Riposte damage and increased risk of aggroing off the main tank aren't something I enjoy.
And as for survivability, I die not nearly as much as our main tank when he decides he's gonna pull =)

That is a very interesting point of view. Too bad you cant take care of yourself nearly as well as an epic monk can. ya know, forget what i said, who cares about 40% insta-click bard/spell haste with AC and an attack buff, that just sucks. Ya i guess a pair of gloves with less stats and no spell haste is better =P

PS dont be lazy, go get your epic like a good monk. We all have to camp raster at some point, deal with it

Mama mia!
Why the hell
# Apr 18 2001 at 9:40 AM Rating: Default
People would probably get these in transition to the Celestial fists...these are probably a lot easier to get a hold of over the monk epic weapon
WHy the hell....
# Apr 04 2001 at 2:18 PM Rating: Default
Ok why would anyone even try to get those? ... hmm anyone heard of Celestial Fists? heh , only reason i could think of gettin those was useing a Tranquil Staff or. some kick *** weapons , hard to beat the stats the Epic gives your hands though.. just my 2 cents.

The CFs are gloves, and you can use it with a weapon if you want. That and they make your fists possibly the best weapons in the game already.
Only a very few weapons come close, *maybe* 1 or 2 1hb, and I can think of 1 2hb that would compare in damage output...

they should have these gloves with an effect that makes you hit really fast and then the target's head blows up or something.

Exactly!

Gee, Verant didn't have TOO much trouble naming these things, did they?

RE: what a waste of gems and gloves
# Apr 03 2001 at 12:31 AM Rating: Decent
I agree on this, though SOMEONE had to do the quest, just to see what the reward was. I can't imagine anyone doing it actually thinking it would best the CFs, but it's gotta be done. hehe

And to others below, if you think any monk is going to get these gloves but not be able to get CFs, that is being very unrealistic. The size and level of the groups required to attain armor pieces for Skyshrine/Kael is quite powerful, generally 18-24 peeps, level 55-60. With that level range, you don't need that many even to kill the mobs for CFs. The final battle would only need 2 groups 55-60 as long as they are tank and cleric heavy, more the merrier but not needed under those circumstances.

Basically you need to be in a powerful guild to attain these gloves from Kael, so you could certainly get CFs. Would indeed be a rare sight to inspect a monk wearing these as anything but a show piece, and not having CFs.

*cough* ac 13, and 0.1 weight. not bad at all....most monks, including myself, that are high enuff to get these...already have good enuff stats that they are just a nice little bonus. I use Gaunts of Firey Might, which are only ac 10, the more AC, the better.

Also, not every Monk out there is going to have the Celestial Fists... true?
RE: what a waste of gems and gloves
# Apr 02 2001 at 7:11 PM Rating: Default
Maybe so but while the Celest's take longer the actual of risk vs. reward considering the mobs present the actual risk is about the same. And it ends up that the Celest's are more than twice as good.
RE: what a waste of gems and gloves

Well, also consider the point that the only other class that uses the "leather" gloves is Druids. Sure, there are quite a lot of druids about, but Monks are somewhat on the rare side, so it still evens out to a fairly good ratio of class to drop. After all, plate warriors have to compete with no less than 5 classes, cloth with 4, and chain with 3. So chances are, when those (whatever) leather gloves drop, there will only be a few likely candidates in the raid. Unlike, say, the plate, which will probably have lots.

Leather gloves rot nightly in ToV along with leather boots, silk boots and silk bracers. I think most everyone that goes has extras for twinks or friends that can't get to ToV.
