Tolan's or Forest Stalker
# Mar 16 2001 at 8:21 PM Rating: Default
Both me and my friend can't decide......... Tolan's give a Gate to fawder (that is a plus we can finally gate like casters when you hear train), but call of earth is a great spell. Tolan's wieghs more, gives less AC, but gives more Dex, Agi, and wis. While Forest Stalker gives more str and Sta, plus 50 hps and mana (but is is better to have the 10 wis, mana wise).

Oh the choices, oh wait what choice I can't get either yet and if I get one of either I would be exstic, but for agruement sake which one is better.

AC is king. The question of using forest stalker armor vs Tolan's doesn't even need to be asked. If you didn't know the answer to that question...go play a warrior.

Um, at lvl 50 1 wisdom is equal to 10 mana. so HOW does 10 wis(100 mana) beat 7 wis(70 mana) + 50 mana(total 120 mana)? Also as a meleeing class the higher AC, str, and sta make this MUCH better. Being able to take more hits for less damage and hit things harder helps ALOT.

hehe, easy choice, Forest Stalker... ac and stats better. Gate on Tolan's is crappy and it lacks the stats compaired to Forest Stalker by far. I never use the gate, it is 30 second cast time and is only useful when you have to leave a group without a caster or want to ditch a raid, and those chances are pretty slim :)

Forest Stalkers, definatley...more ac and the extra hps (if combined with other hp/sta gear) can help a bit, since us rangers do go squish pretty fast. Also it gives more str, which is very nice too.

The first guy that said AC is king for a Ranger and that the originator of this string should play a Warrior is totally backwards. Ranger is an offensive class, not defense. You'd think people would figure this out after finding that our Defense caps at 200 and we get like half the HP Warriors and Paladins get. AC is king for them, so if you think it's king for us maybe you should be playing a Warrior.

Granted, AC is a nice stat to have for us. We have high taunting (snare mainly) and mobs are quick to jump us (especially when we pull). But, the fact remains... offensive stats are superior to AC. That's why I think Thorny Vine Vambraces and Boots are better than Tolan's Darkwood.

However, there isn't much competition between Tolan's Darkwood/Thorny Vine and Forest Walker's... more AC and better stats. Can't get much better than that. I'm Forest Walker's all the way.

As for the effect, just keep the Tolan's Darkwood pieces in your backpack for the effect. When you want to use it, switch them out, use the effect, then switch again. I find that only the Breasplate, Bracers, and Greaves are the only pieces of Tolan's Darkwood with useful effects. If you're a fletcher, Bracers are worthless. If you don't play on PvP, Greaves are worthless (might even be worthless even on PvP... I think the casting time is like double or something, plus one doesn't have time to switch equipment real quick when Splurt or something is steady tearing away at your weak HP.) Then again, I've only checked the Forest Walker's Breastplate so far... the other pieces may have Cancel Magic and Summon Arrows, or something better/similar.

Just my two cents.

AC is far from king for rangers. i have 933 ac at lvl 52 and i still can't out tank a monk of the same lvl with under 900 ac. ranger arn't tanks and even though you may have more ac then a warrior of the same lvl in number that means nothing when it comes to being able to tank. even worse than that monk example i can't out tank a 47 pally with 880 something ac. well enough rambling point is AC isn't as important as everyone says for rangers stick with raising your ATK that actually makes a noticable difference

you can't out tank a 47 pali? or a monk? are you still duel wielding yaks or something? my 52 ranger constantly uses jolt because of his damage. he doesn't get hit too hard cause of high agi/ac. i outdamage and out tank most warriors my lvl or lower. don't know what equipment you have but sorry, you should be doing ALOT more damage.
