You can get this hammer also as a turn in for King Tormax's head. I got one the other day. Sucks that I'm a berserker, not that I would use the effect anyway, just wanted the faction hit so I could get Protection of the Dain from my 10th coldain ring.

The graphic on this hammer looks like a Copper Hammer of Striking.

Visited the old Dain today and took a screenie of him wielding this.

Berserkers can only use 2HS, 2HP, and 2HB, therefore they would not be able to use this.

Would the clicky spell here stack with other hp spells such as Virtue or Aego?

This spell overwrites the self armor slots that some classes have such as the the other INT caster spells in the same line or the cleric self buff Armor spells including Armor of Protection, and Armor of the Zealot. It will not stack with those spells. It will also not stack with the shaman Talisman line of spells which also leaves out Harnessing of Spirit, Focus, etc. as these buffs will overwrite that slot as well. It will stack with the cleric line of HP/AC buffs such as Temperance, Aegolism and Virtue. It will stack with the druid line including Skin buffs, Protection of the Nine and so on. It will also stack with Brell's.

As far as I know, the INT class hp buff spell stacks with everything except focus, and I think BSS. Not to sure about BSS or BSB, get a pally to cast on you then try that.

It does stack with the brells line. As for shaman HP buffs, it wont stack with anything but Infusion of Spirit, a level 49 shaman/level 61 beastlord spell that only adds indirect hitpoints from stamina, along with strength and dexterity.

Benedorf,

umm hello.... shaman buffs overwrite this type of effect. so what were you saying about need before greed? I play a wizard, and I would say to give this item to any class who can't cast a shield on themselves, like say a monk, or a tank, or maybe even a rogue, perhaps even a druid considering thier shielding buffs do not overwrite the arch shielding. you must play a great < plz avoid slipping on the dripping sarcasm.> shaman, considering you didn't know that your own buffs overwrite an int caster shielding spell :)
I don't normally flame anyone, but omg you just can't be serious, or you have to be e bayed.

When I got this, a month ago, it was clickable from inventory. That is not the case anymore. Must be equiped.

It is insta-click. Cast time is zero. Everyone needs instaclick items.

besides Shielding line does not stack with shamans Talisman/Focus line of spells. that makes them one of the last classes to have need of this item IMHO.

Sorry, but as far as this going to shammies...I'd rather see a Beastlord, bard, or a ranger get it. Makes perfect sense for them too since they all dual wield, use mana, actually have a decent 1hb skill, and need the extra protection. Shammies are brought to raids more to buff and slow than anything else, and if they wanted this for anything besides raiding, it'd be out of pure greed.

well.. i think that if this drops it should go to.. anyone who needs it heh.

from the casters POV, saves them mana from the spell, free instaclick buff if they dont have a spyglass, gobbo earring, etc. good int/wis, saves never hurt

from the melee POV, decent ratio (little slow, better as an offhand weapon but say for a ranger wouldnt be bad primary since their offhand epic is so easy to get, but it is really slow and its not hard to get a better wep [ichorflow-greig, light woodsman's blade-iv, skybreaker i think it is-va`dynn].]

in short, usually dain-capable guilds let the officers decide on loot, so whoever they think will benefit most will get it. if i was decided, i would personally say it should go to a monk or warrior(monk wont have conflicts in offhand unless they use a 2hb or have something better, neither will warriors.. ranger, bst, and bard usually have their epic in offhand, warriors it depends on if they are epic'd and/or if they have other eb-like weps) not really sure about rogues cuz i dont play one, whether they keep epic in offhand or primary, how often they even use 1hb, etc.

so, it should go to anyone who needs, not exceptional for dain loot, but not THAT bad.

Harlequin Smile on Terris-Thule takes the Dain down regularly. I went on my second Dain raid last night...fourth raid with the guild. I was awarded this hammer. My first piece of raid loot. Excellent for me given my equipment (I was using an etched baton and an ice ocean, now I'm using this instead of the etched baton). I'm really excited to try soloing in Dulak with this (my favorite XP spot at 51).

Quote - "Hey, let's NOT give Roy G. Warrior a chance to get ARCH SHIELDING,which will beef up his AC, HP and MR...I want him to risk dying as MUCH as possible!"

I like this one, i cant think of a melee that would have this buff up during a raid due to the fact it doesnt stack with focus which gives what 300 or so more hps, i think 67 str and at least one more boost. It would be great for a melee in random pickup groups assuming theres no shammie there other wise i cant see why a melee that can raid for it would want it for the effect.

I got this little beauty a couple days ago. It may annoy a lot of you that a wizard got it, who can already cast Arch Shielding and it's superceders. But everyone should have insta-click items, and that's what this is. Can cast it while running. Can cast it from Inventory. And I spent most of my guild points to get it. Dain dropped 2 of them and a Cleric got the other one, spending almost the same amount of guild points. This is a great little one hander.

If I have Focus of the 7th on me, I can not cast any of my sheilding spells (or this clicky) afterwards. It will not take. I generally prefer the MR from the Shielding spells than the HP from Focus, but it depends on the situation.

Pullers be careful. Our monk has done this a few times and knows the pull very well. But says it has changed. I'm sorry I don't know anymore about it. Just letting you know to expect it to take a few attempts to learn how to get this guy down to the pit. Oh, and one monk was FD and out of agro range for about 3 minutes, but got Dain's attention as soon as he stood up again.

Well, everybody seems to be debating who should get this item.

All you melee people - Those stats and resists are pretty damn awesome for anyone, including casters. 13 INT/WIS isn't easy to come by for any single weapon, much less one that also includes decent resists and a rather useful effect (sure, INT casters can cast it already, but this will save them mana, a spell slot, and from having to remember to remem the spell everytime it drops). This item would quite possibly free up slots elsewhere for HP, mana, more saves, AC, whatever. Just because it has a good damage ratio and STR doesn't mean it's immediately a melee item.

All you casters - It has a good damage ratio and some extremely useful melee stats. Sure, it has an impressive INT/WIS stat, but casters aren't the only ones that can use INT/WIS. I wouldn't see Pallies or SKs picking this weapon up, but a Ranger, Beastlord or Bard might. And the effect is an extremely useful melee spell. No, it won't stack with the Shaman Focus line, but what about times when there isn't a Shaman. The effect alone is worth it for Monks, Rangers, Pallies, SKs, or Beastlords, all perfectly capable of soloing, none of whom could cast this spell on their own.

In short, it's good for everyone, so everyone should have a shot at it. Would I personally ask to be considered or spend DKP on it? Probably not, but I'd have no problem with anyone (ANYONE) that did.

I spent DKP on it for the Arch Shielding (I love the instant cast on it too). It's a nice pick up in hp, ac and MR when I don't have shammy or cleric buffs that would overwrite. You don't have to keep this as your melee to get good value from it.

Alrighty i got this weapon the other night. You all have your opinions on who this is "best" for and who it "Should" go to. Well bleh. Unless your there when this drops and its your responsibility to decide who gets what, your opinion means jack squat -- just like mine ;)

But i'm giving mine anyway -- just like you =p

The dmg/dly, saves and +10str make this a very nice melee item for any class that can use it. Not -EVERYONE- at these raids has something better or their epic.

The 13wis/int and saves make it NICE for casters without their epic (i.e. like me).

Now.. on to the effect: some say you lose 300hp that you would normally get on the shaman buff some say casters (INT ones) already have this buff, others say melee need it cause they cant cast. Fact is, this effect is awesome for -anyone- sure its less HP than shammy buff, but its more AC (i think) and its 20sv magic that stacks with GRM. That's nice if your NOT a melee and only get hit by spells usually. So i generally use this effect over the Khura's Focusing. also another KEY point of this effect is its -INSTANT- cast. This is awesome for fighting debuffing mobs inside (where jboots dont work) if you dont have a shrunken gobby skull earring or anything.

So it all boils down to this item is equally nice to all that attend the raid. Who should it PRIMARILY go to? Well thats up to raid leader or whoever is in charge of the loot to decide. Sometimes guild officers vote, sometimes people /random (gah! heaven forbid you do it this way...) some guilds use raid points based on attendance. Etc etc, either way any and all classes have an equal claim to this nice item, and I thank my guild i got it. Instead of squabbling over who it "SHOULD" go to, why dont you go out and get yourself one ;)

At the level required to get the item in question most persons have their epic and it should go to the person who needs it or has a lesser weapon who cares what class it goes to quit your sqabbling most people will never see this weapon in the first place.

I know who should roll on it: ALL/ALL :P
Granted an INT caster won't benifit from the effect, so not sure why they would want it other than the status symbol..
But as the guy below be stated, melees who use effect are losing 300hp because they can't get the shaman buff. So that alone should make this NOT a melee weapon.
Granted priests probably have thier epics or something with equal wis on it, but melees with have thier epics with equal damage/delay.
So from all the arguements here, looks like it's a good all around weapon for anyone.

Arch Shielding

Arch Shielding doesn't stack with shaman HP buffs so the effect doesn't necessarily make this a great item for a melee class who may benefit more from the 300+ more HP from Focus of Spirit. Also, any guild who can kill the Dain easily and-or often has better weapons than epics or this for their melees. In short, it's an epic-quality item and a great-looking trophy for anybody who attends a Dain slaying and doesn't have better.

The mere thought that this would go to caster is unbelievably ridiculous, you are all idiots if you think they should go to casters...This ratio is as good as the warrior particle weapon, Blade of Tactics, and Blade of Strategy, NOT to mention the effect is insane.

I hate to burst your bubble genius but the Warrior epic doesn't exactly have the best ratio to begin with. I use it primarily because it's proc is 500 aggro points, making it the first EB weapon most Warriors will ever see. While it's possible that some melees may not have a better weapon than this when they are killing Dain, it's not very likely. It's highly unlikely that any melee will be using something with a worse ratio than this at this point in the game. Most guilds doing Dain have been through Skyshrine and are working on NToV. This weapon wouldn't even be on the radar. And the effect is nice, not insane. 150HP is a nice bonus, but even the XP mobs I fight now hit for 200+. This would barely make a dent in that. The AC is negligable (AC is pretty easy to cap out). The MR is nice, but MR is generally the highest of resists (Warriors even get a MR bonus as they level - not sure about other melees).

While I wouldn't mind having the effect for my Warrior, it would never make it to a weapon slot. It's a nice effect. I definitely wouldn't mind a slower getting it over me, though. They tend to take alot of punishment at the beginning of a fight.

It's painfully obvious that you should wait until you are actually killing Dain before you make comments like this as you have no idea WHO would be killing the Dain. Dain isn't generally killed by pre-ToV guilds and is mostly killed for his cloak and his head (used in a Kael Drakkel quest).

In short, STFU.

Caster? Why?
# Jan 22 2002 at 4:59 PM Rating: Default

Why on earth would this insanely powerful weapon go to a Caster???

14 / 24, uber ratio, with ARCH SHIELDING as a right click effect. Perhaps no one has noticed this, but Melees do not have ARCH SHIELDING in thier list of spells (hey, when did Warriors get spells?). "Hey, let's NOT give Roy G. Warrior a chance to get ARCH SHIELDING,which will beef up his AC, HP and MR...I want him to risk dying as MUCH as possible!"

Int/Wis should NOT be an issue to someone who participated on a raid to kill the Dain. Especially not if it deprives some Melee of a great weapon. 45 Mana is a joke. I haven't cast a spell for less than 100 mana in a *dire* situation for about 30 levels.

Plus, c'mon, every caster gets an awesome epic piece, with incredible stats. Why even bother with something like this?
I think the key discussion here should be WHICH Melee class gets to take this item. Firstly, Paladins and SKs should consider that having such a low delay weapon could, in fact, LOWER their usefulnss/damage output because they're going to be hard pressed to get their spells(stuns/lifetaps/dots) off between hits. If this weapon had a higher delay, I'd say SK or Paladin weapon hands-down due to the Casterish stats.

This is definitely not for Rogues, LOL, so I can skip them. This leaves Warriors, Monks, Bards and Rangers. I *beleive* that Monks get better weapons than this, so I will set them aside as well. In the end, I would award this item to a Warrior, Bard or Ranger, possibly leanning more towards the Warrior, since they would make more use out of the Arch Shielding. Rangers and Bards get such ****-poor weapon choices, that they really should be gifted with such a nice weapon if possible (of course, this is only through 2nd hand knowledge of incessantly whining Rangers and Bards)

Oh yeah, and I *am* an Enchanter, and before anyone thinks of me as noble or generous for not wanting to "claim" an uber item for my class, lemme mention that when Tony Tongueripper, 58th level Warrior picks this up on a raid I'm on, I'll be happy, because the next dragon/giant/uber mob we kill is just going to be slightly easier. That's not really noble...it's just smart.

WOW! You had me on your side right up to "This is definitely not for Rogues, LOL"

Anyhow I agree for the most part on the melee thing, the ratio on this is nutty not to mention 10str, 2.0 wt and 5 to all saves and ANY melee would benifit from arch shielding. Monks probably do get better weapons I'm not sure but bards and rangers don't get many 1hb like this and the 24delay is just low enough to not have lammy or jade mace style taunt for anyone not playing MA. And while it has a great ratio it also does have int and wis so I wouldn't shut out the paladins, rangers and shadow knights right away.

As for the rogue thing, 10 str for the backstabs, 14/24 is a nice offhand ratio while still not being too fast, arch shielding cause they get hit too especially when you get pushed back with melee while trying to evade ("you must stand perfectly still to hide" has to be the message my rogue fears the most.) Frankly weapons like these are the reason my rogue has 1hb and 1hs capped also.

Why a caster you say? Hmmm maybe somethin to do with the 13 Wis (priest classes) and the 13 Int (wiz nec enc mage) and hate to tell you but after you hit the 200 int or wis cap 45 mana IS nice to have. I'm not tryin to flame you here because I agree with you that the fighting classes would love to have this as well, but dont tell me that the casters shouldn't have a shot at rolling for this.

Actually, the soft cap of 200 INT/WIS for casters has been lifted for quite a while, though you only receive half of the bonus per point INT/WIS that you'd get pre-200. So, at level 60, this would add 103 mana if you were already at 200 (and it didn't bump against the hard cap of 255).
