My Ranger molo'd him today at 71. I'd completely forgotten he banishes to the pit so didnt pull just attacked him in his room (I quit back in Velious days and this was the first time I'd seen him up since returning in Nov), and with the constant banishings, my Hail of Arrows which had agro'd half a dozen or so guards on floor 2, the Seneschal, Chamberlain and Royal Guards and Dain himself summoning me too it was really hard going.

Sometimes my cleric merc was at top of the mobs agro list and i'd just be floating down the pit and ignored for a minute then summoned, other times 5 different mobs would summon me in as many seconds and I was summoned between floors 2 and 3 too. When all the guards, Seneschal and Chamberlain were finally dead I was banished and not summoned back, but when I got to the bottom of the pit luckily Dain was wailing on my cleric merc along with some pit mobs.

By this time he was less than 5% hp so I finished him off followed by a long run back to the Keep via Origin AA to loot up all the mess. Most of floors 2 and 3 were dead I'd pretty much agro'd half the Keep. Every guard and named apart from Dain were killed by my guild lobby damage shield. It got a bit close at one point when the merc was too far from me to heal, but it wasn't too hard a hard fight, just very, very messy.

Dropped 3 cloaks, some spells and his head.

Solo'd the Dain as a 78 Beastlord. Not uber - only 214 aa, 2.0 mix of CoA and SoF tradeable gear (12.5k unbuffed). Made my pet tank most of the time seeing as it's easier to keep him up with Promised Recovery than try to chain heal myself ;p Would go in and melee to burn discs when they were up (weak beast defensive or just tap rake) or when focused para was up. Swarm petted most of the fight. Fool has a ton of hp was about a 30 min fight solo - with Dain and 2 of his guards (cleared all the ones that don't pop with him before he spawned)

Finished with 56% hp 33% mana

Dropped clicky hammer, cloak, 2X Frostreaver and a few spells not listed:

Spell: Call of the Predator
Spell: Brell's Mountainous Barrier (X2)
Spell: Arch Lich

Today i watched a pally friend of mine named Icej on Druzzil Ro solo the dain... he pulled him down into the hole, killed all the adds, and then faught dain. He killed Senchal Aldikar but dain repoped him and he ran back down, so he had to fight the whole time with an add but it didnt effect him much. Ward of Tunare was key for this fight. Ward of Tunare is the pally spell from PoR that heals the caster when he/she is struck. The whole thing took about 30-45 mins. The only veteran AA he used was staunch recovery. Overall it didnt seem like that bad of a fight.

took a good bit but 2 mages downed him.he didnt banish the pets but at 40% he started jumping aggro n banished one of us n then we just started CoHing each other up.dropped 2 hammers and his crown...along with some spells
RE: banish pets?
# Mar 15 2006 at 6:55 PM Rating: Decent
Found out he does not banish pets. Me (70 mage)+70 mage +70 cleric +70 shammy took him out. Pet pulling does NOT work around the mobs by the throne, however you can pet pull the mobs around the throne without aggroing Dain or his guards then eventualy pull Dain.

Pets have a really really hard time holding aggro. Kept aggroing the mages and not the pets even if they didnt do anything. If you just have one mage fighting and he gets banished then you going to have a tuff time.

Yes it did - thank you for posting this. I had given Chamberlain Krystorf my runed 7th to spawn him so I could turn in the completed issuing kit - no Dain. I saw this, went through the curtain, and now I can continue on from here. Thank you again.

2 Grouped....

RAWR!! Today (3/23/04) we dropped Dain with less then 2 full groups, 2 of them being bots. All of the following toons are lvl 65: 2 Clerics (1bot), 1 druid(bot), 1 Warrior, 1 Paladin, 2 Rogues, 1 bard, 1 shaman and 1 ranger. Pull was easy w/ a bard pulling and fading, then getting gated back to surface, whole fight lasted about 20 minutes w/ repop taken care of. We got Head, 2 Cloaks and 1 Ring w/ 4 spells, not to bad for the twinks. Was super fun and a great kill!!

AYE ! 2 grouped him today which was the mark of me and RL friends oldschool raids that would continue all the way to VT ( all top mobs downed in any zone we came across ) on this ocasion we had only 2 groups and i must say he was a major pain in the *** with all his dps BUT not invincible ! Group #1 consisted of classes:

1)Warrior
2)Shadow Knight
3)Cleric
4)Necromancer
5)Druid
6)Monk

Group #2 consisted of classes:

1)Paladin
2)Beastlord
3)Shaman
4)Enchanter
5)Rogue
6)Cleric

Compared to the easily done Seru or anything else for that matter with LOWER attendance count. the amount of time this guy took to down was decent, not too long but not short either.
I ( beastlord ) was only non Time/GoD equipped in the 2 groups sides 1 cleric and the shaman being only VT/EP geared.

Start to burn this guy at 12% or 15% if u got the right classes in a 3+ group raid and uve got dwarf-stew all around =p

(ohh and We did have to zerg just a bit cause of this guys unwillingness to focus on our MT every now and then :P)

There are TWO versions of Dain.

Version 1: quads for 350
Version 2: quads for 425

Obviously one is easier than the other. He banishes aprox. every 30sec. If you fight him in the well (which is where he banishes to) then it's not an issue because you can run back over and keep fighting.

On our first kill back when velious launched he dropped 3 hammers, axe, head, and cloak plus some spells. Was a good day :)

IE Raid
# Oct 18 2003 at 1:02 PM Rating: Default
Immortalis Extrahi on Bristlebane raids the Dain fairly regularly (whenever more important targets are unavailable)

The fight generally lasts around 5 minutes or so, and is pretty easy. No deaths on our last 3 attempts.

The easiest way to fight him is to pull him into the pits, and push him into a corner. Healers stay back out of melee range, and nukers unload at around 15-20%

All around his hitpoints are around 500k.

The loot is worth the trouble though. Our last drop was a head, two crowns, and the Aegis (bleh)

Just an FYI -- someone finishing off the turn in for the 8th shawl quest can summon the Dain 1 time. My guild did him 2 times back-to-back by getting him then having someone (me hehe) do the turn ins for 8th shawl which summoned him again...

2 drops in 1 raid... not a bad deal <grin>

I just tried this and it didn't work -- either it's broken or they changed it. The Chamberlain just handed me my 7th shawl back and told me to take it to the Dain. No, I had not previously summoned the Dain with it.

He spawns behind the red curtain, not right next to the Chamberlain. He will eventually come out to the throne area, but it takes a good 20 mins or so.

Might have been broken when you did it, or maybe you didn't look behind the red curtain, as I almost missed him back there myself when I did my shawl hand in today.

Cheers,

Anywhere from 350k to 425k hp.
Banishes to the "pit" fairly frequently.
Always drops head (I believe) other drops are fairly random with hammer being rarest.
Max hit in the high 400s.
Hits fast. Rampages. Enrages.
Tank drops significantly on aggro list when banished, so it's easy for damage dealing classes to gain aggro or at least rampage.

Because he banishes to the pit, he should be pulled to and fought in the pit. More or less a straight melee fight which generally lasts 5 to 15 minutes depending on DPS.

[Fri Mar 28 16:19:26 2003] You say, 'Greetings and good fortune to you, honored Dain Frostreaver IV'
[Fri Mar 28 16:19:27 2003] Dain Frostreaver IV says 'Greetin's and good fortune to yerself, Human. Chamberlain Krystorf speaks highly of the deeds you have performed for our people and so I welcome you to my Keep. I ask you now to take up a most dangerous duty for our people. Would you accept such a challenge from the King of a people not your own?'

[Fri Mar 28 16:19:44 2003] You say, 'I will accept such a challenge'
[Fri Mar 28 16:19:44 2003] Dain Frostreaver IV smiles at you with pride and says, 'Something told me you would, Oakrunner. For years upon years the plagues of King Tormax have been unleashed upon my people. And indeed it was also by Tormax's hand that me own father, Dain Frostreaver the Third was slain. My attempts at assassinating him have only met with failure, and our forces, while strong, are not yet mighty enough to assault Kael Drakkel. Therefore I have ye and yer companions as my last hope, Oakrunner. Kill that ******* who calls himself King Tormax. . .and bring me his head!

[Fri Mar 28 16:23:40 2003] Dain Frostreaver IV says 'You have done what no Coldain could do, Oakrunner! This is indeed a glorious day in our peoples' history. In return for your invaluable service I present you with the Tri-plated Golden Hackle Hammer, it's magic is powerful and I am sure it will serve you well.'
[Fri Mar 28 16:23:40 2003] Dain Frostreaver IV shouts 'Let it be known from this day forth that Oakrunner and their companions are Heroes of the Coldain Kingdom. King Tormax has been slain, it is a time for celebration. Let no tankard go unfilled!'
[Fri Mar 28 16:23:40 2003] Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV got better.
[Fri Mar 28 16:23:40 2003] Your faction standing with Coldain got better.

I didn't feel like going all the way to Kael and back to get this hammer, so we just killed Dain. And he droped TWO hammers. No wonder he was willing to swap one for a smelly giant head.
