My take on it was always that it was only a hangover cure in the most colloquial sense, i.e., "a little hair of the dog [dwarf] that bit you." Sometimes drinking more will make your hangover go away, after all...
I suppose that's true, but there's so much more they could have done with this ... oh, well. It is what it is, I guess.
