Your Mana and you.
# Oct 30 2003 at 7:38 PM Rating: Excellent
I sat down one day a while back and did some calculations on what some actual mana savings would be for the various effects under different casting conditions. There is also a spreadsheet link for anyone who likes details.

I used it to help decide things like the relative value of FT3 versus MP4. Follow the link below if you're interested. Hope it helps.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 08 2005 at 6:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Not only too long of a post but wrong. There are no decimals when it comes to the points, their regen equations have long since rounded them. 252 med gives 20 mana regen sitting down or on a horse, period. Also any other thing based on a decimal having to do with the long term effects is wrong. And to top it all off all this stuff is for the short term so dressing up figures with what it gives you over and hour's time is pointless and twisting the facts. If you cast force shield it gives you 1200 mana an hour and it costs 300 so it takes around 15 minutes just for it to pay for itself. What you wouldn't put down is you only cast stuff like this when you can afford the mana or you are at FM. So the long term affect don't matter a lick. All anyone needs to know is if it lowers your mana cost or gives you mana regen get it and get the one that you can use the longest for the least price. And of course either parse the spell file or look on lucy and you see the effect immediately, and now with mana in numbers there is no need for all this guessing psedo math...

Astenor, you rock!
That is the sort of post im looking for when i am serching Allakhazam's. It's good to see someone with something usefull to say and not just talk about how uber they are or calling ppl noobs.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading your link, very cleverly written, funny and informative.

WTG!

lol Your mana and You is realy long but very informative. Its nice to see that someone has taken the time to do the work themselves and not just assumed the numbers everyone else gave were right. On a side note i would like to point out that i find lots of people playing LDoN now thus killing your 10K for mount idea, sence these are indoor zones. /sigh if only Sony would have made mole or shrew mounts for LDoN.

Darfe out

Would be a very cool idea to be able to purchace a Mount for indoors but obviously it would be too good.

A cool solution would be a mount that worked ONLY in LDoN zones that was purchaced for APs...

Then again, the original purpose of the mounts was to just suck up money in the economy, hehe, and sucking up APs isn't going to help SOE out much. =)

the mount for indoor zones is a great idea! think about it, our mounts now can ONLY be used outdoors. so we need mounts that can be used ONLY indoors. they could be drops from LDoN/GoD zones, or be just like the other mounts and have to buy them. (not with AP though, i know i wouldnt waste AP on an indoor mount if it cost 1400ap) i still think having a skelly sitting on a giant mole or worm even a pretty cool idea lol.

Where at in Veksar?

Does anyone know the location of where this mob spawns, and who the PH is?

if u bothered to click the link up with the item info that says (not in these exact words) "garudon drops this" to go to garudons page, then clicked the quest marked (again not these exact words) "this is the quest to spawn garudon" it'd tell you that hes not spawned via placeholder, or instead of clicking the 2nd link u scrolled down to garudons comments ud see that 5 or 6 people said he spawns in the theatre.

but since ur skills in "investigation" are apparantly slim to non il just tell you straight up.

Kill spellbinders in the theatre area to get boneshards, the're on a 30 minute respawn and it takes about 2 hours per shard if (give or take half an hour)

when you have 4 boneshards hand go to the entrance of shops (near golems), and left of the door in the corner is an invisible man called "spirit of garudon",

give your 4 boneshards to him, the spirit will return to its remains where it was sleign during the great dragon war (read the quest, it tells u the lore, its fascinating) which is in the theatre, yes thats the same theatre you got the boneshards from. and behold the mighty undead dragon named garudon rise up from his remains to face a true death so his spirit can truely rest in peace (again, the lore is fascinating, seriously, read it)

have your raid force set up in the theatre ready for him, if ur force is in elemental-time equipment id say get 8-10 at least, if ur raid isnt in elemental yet id say get at the absolute bare minimum 12 people,

make sure u have at least a semi decent tank and at least 2 healers, he hits for like 972 and has a proc that does someten like 560 direct damage and further 100 per tic

some other useful notes:,

Garudons hitbox is incredibly small so in order to melee him you have to stand VERY close to him, i mean right up agaisnt him as close as u can possible get.

Garudon may be undead, be he is still a dragon, and accordingly he can only be hit by spells if the caster is INSIDE his hitbox, so again stand as close to him as you possibly can. If you do not stand inside his hitbox when casting you are GAURENTEED that the spell you cast will resist.

My final tip, have at LEAST 1 shaman or enchanter, preferably 2, In the times i have done him my slowers have NEVER landed a complete slow, it has always been partial and it has always taken a few goes, so have a shaman/mage and enchanter resist debuff him then ur slowers try to land that partial asap, be sure to have more than 1 tank because if ur tank aint good he will die before that partial is landed.

Good luck, and god speed
Front-loading vs. back-loading
# Aug 15 2003 at 10:02 AM Rating: Excellent
This shawl is what you would call a 'front-loaded' item, meaning that the benefit for the Mana Pres 4 is on the 'front-side' of a battle; the actual casting of spells on your foe.

Meanwhile, the 8th Shawl with FT3 is what you would call back, or rear-loading. This means the benefit of the effct is after combat, and/or after casting.

To take advantage of the front/back-loading philosophy, simply equip the Kylong when casting, and switch to the 8th Shawl for downtime and regathering mana.

This philosophy applies to basically every weapon, item, and AA spent in EQ. Ex.; SpellCastingMastery AA would be front-loading, while MentalClarity AA would be back-loading.

Take advantage of both ends of combat in Norrath, and may your mana always flow faster than your blood.

All I can say is 8th coldain prayer shawl kills this thing. Mana preservation items should be on other slots, quit making us choose...

Simply put they are not MAKING us chose they are offering us a choice. as you can see in these posts people opinions on what is important to them differ.

I hate to break it to you guys, but this blows away the Blessed Coldain Prayer Shawl. While 50 mana/hp FT3 and extended buff are really nice, 65 hp/mana and mana pres are better. You will get more out efficiency out of the mana pres than you will the FT3 and extended buff by a long shot, particularly since you can bag the shawl and put it on for casting buffs.

Better stats, better foci, better item. It shouldn't even be a question which you would wear full time.

That's right, it's not! I prefer the shawl!

Sure, this has 15 more HP/mana. But I prefer FT3 to that, and MP4 is easy to get with ornate.

Wow? Aren't we a spaz? All he is saying is that it's hard to choose between the shawl and this item because of the Effect.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 20 2003 at 3:52 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) whast to chose man, shawl isn't a drop its tailored, quest, an made from sweat an blood, not by killing some gimp a$$ dragon.

Just wondering why you screaming. You're level 51 plus a necro so you don't understand the importance of both focus 4 items and FT for other classes like clerics and wizards.

Lots of casters and priests who make level 61+ have their shawl 7 or 8. The effects are too good not to make the effort unless you're guaranteed a spot in a VT+ uberguild.
This dragon is not so hard and can be done by small/casual guilds who are strugling through HoT or starting on NToV for instance. Shawl 8 is often very common in guilds like those.

Considering this is the first normally obtainable mana pres 4 item for non-ubers (not counting 100+kpp tier 4 pottery items) it's a very bad choice by SOE to make it for a slot most non-uber players have one of their few super items (earring of sol being another).

Good item, bad slot choice.

All valid posts, save the flamers rediculously out of place and ill tempered rant. In the end though this to me looks to be geared more toward hybrids than pure casters. Most hybrids wont spend the time to do the shawl quests anyway.

# Aug 09 2003 at 3:10 AM Rating: Decent
As a beastlord, I must say that the shawl is very much in demand for hybrids.
Very nice.

A very nice upgrade to Obulus Death Shroud for those who can attain it. Truly for all casters including melee hybrids who don't plan on doing the Prayer Shawl.
Garudon's other loot is impressive too.
