My warrior was my last toon that had NOT accomplished a successful Riverweed forage. I was about to call it a session and log him out when on a hunch I clicked FORAGE on my druid and sure nuff, got a Riverweed. I was about to bag it when I accidentally opened a trade window with the warrior. Oh well, I figured, doesn't matter who holds it so I completed the trade. THIS GAVE THE WARRIOR CREDIT FOR A FORAGE OF RIVERWEED IN THIS QUEST! Evidently the toon does not have to accomplish the actual forage, just acquire a sample of this item. Which must mean you can even just buy it from another player.

This forage is a royal pain and it doesn't help that the quest-giver's advice appears to be wrong. I had zero luck foraging any of this at the bottom of the recommended ponds. I got 3 real quick with my druid (max forage) down by the Fisherman in the SE corner. But my other toons, all capped at only 50 for forage skill, had no luck there and absolutely no luck in any of the recommended ponds. I was advised in general chat to try the land area around Lylrae Oakwynd (nice surname, btw) and the robot Galeth Verdeth and that worked much better. The forage still takes time but it's not like 5 hours of failure. My other 5 toons got theirs in about an hour, with a couple even getting a dupe (I kept at it trying to get other quest-required forage items.) Fortunately the other forages required for completing mercenary tasks in this zone don't appear to be nearly as hard and the recommended locations for those, from the quest-givers, are mostly accurate.

The Riverweed forage reminds me of the worst parts of classic epic quests and it doesn't help when game guidance is wrong. At minimum it should MENTION that you can successfully obtain Riverweed foraging on LAND because that's where I acquired 10 samples. Frankly, I'd rather have to kill 100 tough mobs for a quest than blow this much time clicking a hot button every 1 minute 40 seconds.

Also every single forage item from the tasks A Meal of Greens and Stocking the Stores can be foraged in this same area, despite any statements in the quest dialogue directing you to other specific areas. They may be MORE common where the quest-giver suggests but given how long it takes to get Riverweed, you can probably anticipate getting all of these other forage items during the same session. Just be sure to have those tasks active at the same time!
