The pure casters can research and write their own spell scrolls to add to their spell books. A number of different spells can only be gotten through research.
For each pertinent class, what it the best way to use and develop this skill? What researched spells should you be concentrating on learning? How can you develop the skill high enough to learn the right spells? Where can you find the spell materials?

You also need a pearl to make vials of viscous mana. Make sure you have both a poison vial and a pearl in your inventory then just cast the spell. Just like enchanting metals. These are used for tailoring. It can be quite profitable if the you find a market for them. I didn't have the spell because I didn't want to get near brownies and I thought the spells would be useless anyways until when I was in EC, a level 60 Ranger came up to me, gave me a stack of pearls and poison vials, the spell scroll and 100 plat to make a stack of vials of viscous mana. If you want to know where to get this stuff, poison vials are sold by the rogue NPC in Dagnor's Cauldron on the island and pearls are sold at rare gem vendors, hope this helps.
All of the mana spells are used for tailoring. Currently Thicken mana is used to make Wu's armor. Find a tailor who needs it...I sell a stack of viscous mana for 200pp (costs me 100pp to make). The other mana spells are useful in tailoring as well but I am unsure if recipes have yet been discovered for anything other than thicken mana and distill mana. Distill mana is a lvl 49 chanter spell that is used in making Velious ice silk armours (AWESOME chanter equipment at high lvls).

well i have tryed hard to find out what pagers are for what spells i resently research two of my spells Levitate and AE mez (mezmeration) i think. But so far thats all i can get!!!
Oh another ? Does the research skill go up on its own as you research or do you stick practice points into it? that was a question i have had sence i got the ability
The more you Research the better. Research even if you already have the spell, if it's in your skill range. Also Practice Research at Guild! Lvl 18 - 23 Ench's might want to try The Aviak City in the S/W area of South Karana. The Birds tend to drop pages...
I am a level 26 mage. I have the research list, but I am have alot of difficulty finding alot of the components that I need to make the spell. Is there a site with this kind of information?
How do I research spells??? I have a Lexicon, runes, paper, quill, and skill points in research. Whenever I put the runes and paper in the Lexicon and combine, I get nothing and loose everything that I put into the book.
Paper and Quill are for making Practice Research runes. For real research you just use the runes.
Example : You want to research Pillar of Fire. You have been putting a Rune of Proximity, a Rune of Nagafen, and paper in the book. That doesn't work. What you should do is put in just the Runes of Proximity and Nagafen and you will actually have a chance of success.
Many spells are easily purchased, so the components to research them are unneeded. This list's purpose is to help casters decide which research items are worth saving. There are 76 rare items not needed, plus 9 items and 10 spells magicians needn't purchase. There are 118 rare items needed, plus 3 items and 10 spells magicians need to purchase. The 118 needed rare items are listed below, along with what they're needed for. The list is complete but omits all purchasable items, recipes, and detailed instructions.

You can also combine Azia Runes with Beza Runes in your regular book to practice Research. The 8 Azia Runes and 8 Beza Runes are created with the 6-slot Concordance of Research.

Can a BAR Warrior learn to cast spells with this ability? I am a newbie. I come from the FPS realm but used to be a diehard adventurer back in the days of Wizardry I. I have seen potions for sale but they are very expensive for a level 7 warrior. Any help would be appreciated.
a gnome worrior with tinkering will be able to have items that give the spell effecks but they are for gnomes only and the armor is wathman the effecks are awsome like plus 30 stregth and dex you have 10 charges on each and you can reacharge them with batterys.
Actually Warriors can have mana, if it is part of an armor bonus or such, my Rygor battle mail gave my Warrior a lil bit of it, even though it is totally worthless since you cant cast spells, but is there some kind of spell that would alow a party member to syphon it from me for their own use, or can you only do that with hit points.
Can someone please say to me how i need to have in research to have a good chance to success in the IC research ???? Or maybe just say how many you have had when you try ???
I assume you are refering to Ice Comet. While I am not a wizard, I do have a fair amount of experience with research in general.. Unless IC is somehow more difficult than other level 49 spells (unlikely, but possible) I wouldn't try with less than 160 skill (at 160 my Magician was having about an 80% success rate making level 49 pets). Higher is of course better.

Over on the left side of the page you will find a link that says Research... Follow it. It leads to a site with all research recipies for all caster classes.

i was wondering because i have lower level friends who are not mages :(. in theory it should work because the skill check is research. but since i am not a wizard would i always fail?
If you attempt it, you will be told that you can not use that item. The only spells a person of one class can research for another are spells that both classes get, and then you have to do it with your own class' research formula.
The magician research is probably one of the WORST spell research fields, as it requires chain research. You start off with a low level spell, and sometimes it requires 2 or 3 attempts to get the spell you want. For example, for the 49th water pet, you need to research the 39th, 44th, then 49th. If your skill isn't good enough, or your not lucky enough, you can fail on the 49th one and lose 6 hard to come by items, and the original pp for the spell. My advice is to find someone that was deranged enough to become a master at this skill, and offer to buy from him/her.
Rofl, both my necro and magician became master researchers simply by paying the trainer. It took about 300pp, but I would say its worth it. Plus, there are a lot of spells you can research and sell to other players.
How is it that you can pay the trainer too gain your xp. Is it possible too pay all of the trainers too raise your skills?? would really love to know what you are talking about exactly
