If all of us baker's sold it for more than 5pp then people would buy it for 5pp. Eveyone is just trying to under cut everyone else these days. I am trying to get all bakers to not sell these for less than 20pp. Maybe baker's can start makeing a profit once again.
Why is it selt so cheap?

I have finally reached 250 in my baking skills, but the combine rate still isn't that good. What can be done to imporove it? I also have the GM Spoon as well, yet the rate isn't good.

The highest ANY skill can go is 252.

While the mods will stack on Geerlok and GM, they will never bring the skill past the hardcap of 252.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

That is true. What you didn't include is the WHY:

EQ looks at skills as an 8-bit value... If you know anything about binary, you know the # of possibilities is equal to 2^n where n is the # of bits. Thus, 2^8 (which is 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2) equals 258. EQ needs a few "special" circumstances, three of them to be exact (I believe them to be: 1- Can NEVER Learn Skill 2- Skill cannot be learned at this time/lvl and 3- Can Train in skill, but requires at least one point from a GuildMaster in order to recieve skill-ups from use).

So you have 256 possibilities... take away three and you leave 253. So why can't your skill go to 253? Because good 'Ol zero is one, so you have 0-252 (253 values) plus the special values (3 of them) yields the Holy binarily-devisible number of 256 =)

Have a nice day, and I hope someone learned something =)

You say you've already reached 250 so I'm not sure how helpful this will be to you since you've already most likely already got one. I would think though that the only way you might be able to improve your success rate at all is by using a geerlok, which should still increase your baking skills. The geerloks (there's one for each tradeskill) improve the skill by 5% when equipped.
RE: Help me improve....
# Nov 04 2003 at 7:54 PM Rating: Decent
Can the geerlok and the GM Spoon work together. I was told that I can only use one at a time. I'll have to see what slot the geerlok will fit in as I have my GM Spoon in the range slot (I think that's the slot) at present. I'll try it tonight as I have 7 more stacks to combine.... I hate being broke

I've read posts from tradeskillers who swear they get fewer failures with buffed dex/agi.

It may do nothing at all, but it certainly would be worth trying if you're going to be doing large numbers of such an elaborate recipe.

Common mistakes:

  • Attempting to use Jumjum Cake instead of Slice of Jumjum Cake.
  • Forgetting to use 2 Slices of Jumjum Cake.
  • Forgetting that the 2 slices must be unstacked.

Illi, i know this is going to sound like a real pain. But i am liking the revamp for the skills and heartaches to find recipes. However, are you guys going to do the same for spells research post lvl 50 some them are a bit of a pain in the neck to find. But with quick reference tools that are posted on the site under the spells do not yeild most of the words or items needed to do the combines. but i do like the new recipes makes it better.

Cudos again on making the site a better place, And the ability to hide combines, sub combines is great, But I personaly for quick reference think the sub catogorys should start out closed and be clicked to opened not vise versa. I want to point out that I am not crizing (sp) in any way but suggesting, this new system is awsome and I apreciate the time allakhazam and everyone else has put into it.

I concur. Your suggestion is a good one. If they start out closed, with maybe a small text message at the top saying, "Click []show for more info", then recipes that almost everyone knows about or don't need (ie water flask - most people will buy instead of doing the 4 pod combine...though I have done that one many times ;)).

now if you could just fix the looping ore conversions in recipes (expand out Marmalade Sandwich -> Loaf of Bread -> Bread Tin -> Metal Bits -> Small Piece of Ore -> Small Brick of Ore -> Small Piece of Ore) all would be perfect :) perhaps stopping recipe expansion on hitting any sort of ore and including a link to ore conversion recipes?

    Hello,

I am a GM baker with skill of 250. I also have my GM baking spoon that give +5% baking mod. I have made 1,000's of these.

Enough of my credentials. Here are some yields for the sub items. This is important since you need the correct amount of everything or you'll end up with a lot of extra ingredients of one type and missing a few others.

    Apricot Marmalade - Yield 6
    Marmalade Sandwich - Yield 12
Jumjum Spiced Beer - Yield 10
    Winter Chocolate - Yield 1
    Jumjum Cake - Yield 20
Slice of Jumjum Cake - Yield 10. Note you need double the amount of slices as other ingredients.
    Jumjum Salad - Yield 10
    Royal Mints - Yield 10
    Mature Cheese - Yield 10
    Woven Mandrake - Yield 1
    Steel Boning - Yield 1
    Picnic Basket - Yield 10

So what do you do since some of these combines yield different amounts? Well a common factor in all ingredients is 6. This means make 60 of each ingredient to come out with using up all your ingredients equally (well close to it).

    In otherwords:

Make 1 Apricot Marmalade combine to get 6 Apricot Marmalades. Make 5 combines of Marmalade sandwiches to give you 60 sandwiches. You will have 1 Apricot marmalade left over actually.

Make 1 Jumjum cake combine to get 20 cakes. Combine 12 cakes--one by one--to get 120 slices of jumjum cake. (Remember you need double here, that's why you need 120 not 60). Also note you get 8 extra cakes left over but I found this combine is very tough and I often fail a few times. Its nice to have a few extra in case.

Make 6 combines of Jumjum Salad to get 60.

Make 6 combines of Royal Mints to get 60.

Make 6 combines of Mature Cheese to get 60.

Make 6 combines of Picnic Basket to get 60. The sub combines on these are a pain but each yield 1 so they are also a factor of 6.

Now you have enough ingredients to fill 3 backpacks. Click away, 8 items in the oven and pray you succeed.

I have found that at my skill level I fail about 51% of the time. Because the yields of the subcombines are so high (10 usually) the price of the picnics are actually pretty low. The cost involved is more about the time involved to make all the clicks and gathing stuff. The brownie parts are not that bad since each one makes 20 cakes and each cake is 10 slices meaning 200 slices. You need 2 slices per attempt so that's 100 combines off one brownie part.

    ~Happy Baking~

Very nice and very helpful! I put together a shopping list, based on your recommendations for getting enough for 60 combines. Here it is along with a step-by-step following:

Shopping List for 60 Misty Thicket Picnics
    6 Barley
    6 Bottle
    1 Brownie Parts
    1 Clump of Dough
    6 Eucalyptus Leaf
    6 Fennel
    12 Flask of Water
    1 FORAGED Fruit
    6 FORAGED Vegetable
    8 Frosting
    6 Hops
    13 Jum Jum Stalk
    6 Lettuce
    5 Loaf of Bread
    12 Mandrake Roots
    6 Rennet
    6 Small Brick of Ore
    6 Spices

In addition, you will need the following:
    1 Cake Round
    1 Dairy Spoon
    1 File

This seems to be the most straight forward order to proceede, listed as the number of Combines:

    Forge
    6. Steel Boning

    Loom/Kit
    6. Woven Mandrake
    6. Picnic Basket

    Brew Barrel
    6. Jum Jum Spiced Beer

    Oven/Spit
    1. Apricot Marmalade

    Mixing Bowl
    1. Winter Chocolate
    6. Jum Jum Salads
    6. Royal Mints
    6. Mature Cheese
    5. Marmalade Sandwich

    Oven/Spit
    1. Jum Jum Cake
    12. Pieces of Jum Jum Cake
    60. Misty Thicket Picnics

    Hope someone finds this helpful!

    Things to know:

Picnic Baskets are player made. Takes smithing and tailoring skill.

    Dairy Spoons are smithed.

The baking combine for Jumjum Cakes also requires a Cake Round, which is made via pottery I believe.

Lettuce is purchasable in ShadowHaven. Same merchant as Jumjum.

Bread is also purchasable, why you'd go through the hassle of making it yourself I have no clue.

Rennet still sold in ShadowHaven. Merchant's name is Granger Kenforth. Located in one of the shops off the side of the little spires.

On a side note, I'm not impressed at all with the new addition. EQ Traders does an absolutely amazing job with tradeskills, why duplicate it all here? And as a highlight, you link specifically to the recipe for Misty Thicket Picnics... only it has errors.

I'm a Monk myself (anyone don't believe me, come to Rodcet and lemme kick you in the head, *grin*), and that stuff just gets on my nerves. Who cares what class/race something "ought" to go to anyhow? There's far more gear in the game than 98% of the players will ever see anyway. I'll take the best I can acquire when it comes to me, and the rest I'll just drool over when I see it here :)
