Warden Jakar may be found on the second floor at Loc -1260, -1110, 42. Go due west from the elevator and look to the right of Quartermaster Thatun .

You say, 'Hail, Warden Jakar'

Warden Jakar says 'Vasha, stranger. I am Warden Jakar. I hope you find our homes to your liking. I must ask you to keep your weapons in their sheaths and your spells unspoken while in Crescent Reach. My people have too [many
enemies] outside the city to wish for any inside it.'

You say, 'Many enemies?'

Warden Jakar says 'Well, I can not speak of this in great details, but a wise person will understand more than I can say. Most of our effort is spent keeping the wild animals and other dangerous locals. My duty extends beyond simple, obvious problems. It is my task to foresee danger from a greater distance. I must deal with [matters] much more difficult.'

You say, 'What matters?'

Warden Jakar says 'I can not discuss the most intimate details with a stranger, but if you wish to help I can certainly use the assistance. Perhaps you have a preference about which enemy you face? [Goblins] perhaps? Or [gnolls]? Or if you are braver and more skilled, perhaps you will kill some [kobolds] or [orcs] for us. I can only ask the most powerful strangers to battle with the northern [giants], are you one of those? If not, that is fine. Please enjoy the safety of the city while you are here.'

You say, 'Goblins.'

Warden Jakar says 'I have heard how people from outside the spine speak of goblins. You see them as weak, stupid creatures with little power and of little consequence. We feel much the same, and that is something that worries me. The goblins, like all other races of this valley, were once enslaved by the northern giants. They have learned some tricks during that time, and they may also have [allied] themselves with gnolls. I would be grateful to you if you could reduce their numbers somewhat. If you have some friends to help I have an additional [task] all of you could undertake against the goblins.'

You say, 'What task?'

You have been assigned the task 'Sweeping the Steppes: Goblins'.

Warden Jakar would like you to slay enough goblins to lure them into sending one of their pet cave bears after you. Once you have done so and slain the cave bear return to Jakar.

[This task begins in the Steppes.]

  • Provoke the goblins into sending their bear after you (what?) 0/30 (The Steppes)

    Upon killing the 30th goblin:

You hear a loud roar and the sound of something large rushing towards you.
Your task "Sweeping the Steppes : Goblins" has been updated.

  • Slay the goblin's pet bear 0/1 (The Steppes)

"a domesticated bear" will spawn in the middle of the Stonemight goblin camp. Kill it.

a domesticated bear's corpse lunges one more time before it dies.
Your task "Sweeping the Steppes : Goblins" has been updated.

  • Return to Warden Jakar with news of your victory 0/1 (Crescent Reach)

    You say, 'Hail, Warden Jakar'

Your task "Sweeping the Steppes : Goblins" has been updated.

The death of the cave bear is a blow to the goblins tribes. Perhaps they will not be quite so aggressive without the strength of the bears to fall back on.
    You gain experience!!

I have the task window open and I am told the only option for a reward is some stat food. Am I missing something here?

You probably got this task mixed up with Cull the Goblins from the same quest giver. You should do both tasks at the same time though.

    Steps are :
Provoke the goblins into sending their bear after you 0/30 The Steppes
Slay the goblin's pet bear 0/1 The Steppes
Return to Warden Jakar with news of your victory 0/1 Crescent Reach

    Dialogues :
When the last of 30 goblins is killed ( every stonemight mob type in the Steppes will count ), the first step updates and we can read in chat windows : "You hear a loud roar and the sound of something large rushing towards you. Your task "Sweeping the Steppes : Goblins" has been updated."

At this moment, a mob " a domesticated bear " ( who cons yellow for a lvl 61 ) spawns in the middle of stomemight goblins camp ( which is near the Goru'kar Mesa zone in ). You have to kill him. He doesn't rush in fact towards you and wait for at his spawn point.
When you kill him, you can read in chat windows : "a domesticated bear's corpse lunges one more time before it dies. Your task "Sweeping the Steppes : Goblins" has been updated."

You have to return to Crescent Reach and hail Warden Jakar. Then you will read in chat windows : "Your task "Sweeping the Steppes : Goblins" has been updated.
The death of the cave bear is a blow to the goblins tribes. Perhaps they will not be quite so aggressive without the strength of the bears to fall back on. You gain experience!!"

80 pally , Soloed last night , Was funny. I killed the 29 and was meding to full for number 30. Then I had a goblin respawn on me, So I killed him and waited a few seconds. All of a sudden I got jumped by like 7 goblins and the bear . I hit DA and ran to zone out. Med to Full , ran back in with the bear standing there at the zone in by himself. Killed him and finished, Took me maybe a hour from start to finish. You dont have to clear all the goblins , They respawned pretty fast . By the time I killed 10 they were ropoping.. Is fun ..............

Well we finished this in a successful but terribly messy way. I moved the group (74 ranger myself, 75 bst and 71 clr box) to the mountain behind the bear ready for the pull. The bst got a bit too close as he ran over, the bear did the auto engage thing others had warned about, training a dozen goblins on the bst. He, and the cleric on /fol, high tailed it for the zone, while i was far enough away at the time to have no agro. Taking advantage of the situation, i slung a snare on the bear, followed by a nuke or two to steal away agro, and single pulled/tagged him back into the mountains. Root/archery solo - well in all truth, the bst healed up and ran back to help by scoring presicely one hit on the bear, the deathblow!

The lesson is training is a fine way to pull; but be warned the goblins run Fast!

The bear was light blue at 74, did not summon, did not cast, and can be snared and rooted. I walked over to him for a second to get an idea of his hits, and they seemed to be no different to the warrior goblins - in the 650 range max to me. Dropped a Pearlescent Bear Tooth.
    Absolutely Ridiculous!

I had a group kill the 30 goblins and after the domesticated bear spawned it was killed by Hesmire Farflight so it was just a big waste of time.

Edit: I attempted to pull the bear to the zone on the first try and was killed instantly by the named next to him but the second time around I had the group position itself closeby where he spawns, clear the roamers then had monk pull him but even though we got the named as an add we managed to defeat the bear since the person who aggroed the named headed to the zoneline as we kiled him at camp so we managed to complete the mission in the end.

Soloed this in about an hour. Goblins are cake have low hps, bear spawned in the hut like the others said - I just pacified what i could, snared the bear then ran like hell while 4 others came after me, once the bear was in a safe spot snared I hit exodus and went back to keel him. Was easy kill, got totem but it doesnt stack with Frost Shield, which also adds to ds. Was dissapointed that the 2 didnt stack but wth I got a little gobby running around after me now for fun in groups ;)

Completed in just over 90 minutes; 75 RNG, 70 DRU, 66 ROG, 63 PAL. Pulled the 30th goblin near the zone line just to be on the safe side -- no adds upon his death. Bear was in camp; pulled bear with 3 adds, I laid hands on the puller. The ranger rooted the bear shortly before we all zoned. Came back, the bear was sitting all by himself waiting for us. Easy kill, no player deaths, no Elite spawns. huzzah!

    Missing information

    Objective instructions Status Zone
Provoke the goblins into sending their bear after you 0/30 The Steppes
Slay the goblin's pet bear 0/1 The Steppes
Return to Warden Jakar with news of your victory 0/1 Crescent Reach

Also when you say "what task" The following text appears:-

Warden Jakar says 'One of the goblins favorite tactics is to simply attack in overwhelming numbers. A single fighter would not have much chance against these rushes, though with your friends you may be able to defeat them. The goblins are also known to keep a pet bear that is used when they feel they are faced with a stronger enemy. The truth is this bear is quite effective for them. If you could convince the goblins to send this bear against you, and then slay it, it would help us make strides in containing them'

Lastly when you return to Warden Jakar and hail him the following text appears:-

The death of the cave bear is a blow to the goblin tribes. Perhaps they will not be quite so aggressive without the strength of the bears to fall back on.

    technically a shared task
can get it without a group, and complete it solo though.
Since the last step is just hailing the warden again, you can /taskadd all your friends at the end and get them the goblin as well.

For me, it didn't auto agro or pop on top of me.
I killed 30, found him waiting in a hut in the back left with 3 goblin friends.
He pops on others, sometimes with adds.
    Seems to change.

    He corpse camps.
You can train him out of the camp and die, then summon your body and run back, and he will still be outside the camp waiting for you.

k it seems to me peeps are getting this a bit wrong , i did the quest and the trick is becarfull where you are when you kill the last gobo cos the bear spawns from the far left cornor and i was far across from him so what happens is he agros for you but if you are a way from him he will train you with all gobbos in the camps including the named that dose not spawn with the bear. anywya if this dose happen simply zone wait a few secs then zone back and the bear will be waiting for you nice and singel. just thourght i would add this .

The cave bear actually spawns upon killing the 30th goblin, and will auto aggro you. It's not a normal spawn.

It didn't auto aggro me, but I was killing my gobbies all the way easy near the Mesa zone.

I snare-trained the bear and about 50 gobbies to the zone then went back and killed the bear.

You don't have to kill any named for the bear to spawn ... just kill the goblins, they're easy can probably do several at a time with a slower or partial group.

    It can be task added.

Guess since this is out: There is a gnoll item clicky also. It's a gnoll only root though :(. It's even easier than this - just a heads up.

This guy spawned with the bear. Be warned he's got an 8000 dmg nuke that also does FD. REALLY wasn't prepared for it when we did this.

Bear can be kited to zoneline and rooted. Does NOT summon.
