This task begins with Calisar in the Stoneroot Falls. He is located at 845, -1800, 8.

Calisar says 'Were you sent by the priests?' he glares suspiciously at you, 'I think not, but no matter. I have important work to do and you look like the sort of person I wouldn't feel bad about sacrif. . .having help in my [work].'

You say, 'What work?'

Calisar says 'Our priests have been developing a magical dampening stone designed to weaken the spells and enchantments used by the drachnids. Unfortunately these stones are currently only effective if they can be placed at the [source] of the drachnid magic.'

You say, 'Where is the source?'

Calisar says 'The stones that I have at the moment need to be placed in the summoning altars of the drachnids. Those altars are used to summon the throngs of expendable drachnids that are sent into battle as fodder. If we can weaken those forces enough, the drachnids may have to rethink their tactics. If you think you could [accomplish] this, I'll give you a few stones to plant.'

You say, 'I think I can accomplish this.'

Calisar says 'I can give you four dampening stones to start with. Make sure you get them placed correctly. If you lose any let me know and I'll see if I can find [more] for you.'

4 x A Dampening Stone appear on your cursor, and a task window appears:

Speak with Sintal nearby. He should have a bit more information for you regarding the summoning altars, and may be able to help you sneak into the Hive.

There are three versions of this task: Low-level (for those 67 and below), normal and hard. The only difference between them is the quality of loot and difficulty of mobs.

Sintal says 'I have been able to develop a teleportation spell that allows me to reach the bridges outside the cavern wall of the hive. I can take you each up there individually and help you return again once you've completed your work. Let me know when you are each [ready] and I will transport you.'

Sintal says 'Keep your guard up when you arrive. You never know what could be waiting for you there.'

Sintal says 'Ready to run away, eh? Well I can't say that I'm surprised. I don't think anyone deserves to be captured by the drachnids so I can help you [leave] whenever you're ready.'

During the mission you will see the following emote every 2-3 minutes:

A low chanting can be heard for just a moment before suddenly going silent.

When this emote goes off, a summoned minion spawns on top of one of the four altars. Undead minions may also spawn, and see invisibility. Drachnid Ritualists guard each of the altars.

Place the four stones on the four altars (locations and descriptions needed) and find Sintal again..

You say, 'Hail, Sintal'

Sintal says 'All done are you? I must admit to being impressed. I had expected the drachnids to truss you up quickly and use you as breeding fodder. At any rate thank you for your help with this, there should be a drastic effect on the drachnid armies because of this. Here's payment for your services, take it and let me know when you're ready and I'll take you all [out of here].'

MNK / CLR / ENC (all 70, no mercs)

Enter instance, grab and kill 2 roamers, run CLR and ENC to top right larder (blocked entrance) camp them out there

Have MNK feigndeath trade items with chests 1-3 (start with lowest, keep highest chest up)

Task should now read:
3/4
2/20

Run MNK to CLR and ENC and log them in.

Now just start pull from highest wing only, adds (spiders and summoned) are mezzed easily.

The clue is that the summoned undeads from wing 1-3 will not charge your group due to the high distance. They will stay near the chest the item has been traded already.

Upon full clearance of top wing task should read:
4/4
18/20

Now just pull 2-3 more from wing below and you are done.

did this mission 10/07 there are random minion adds that will spawn every 5 min and assault the group, we found even with a better group if there is any problems during the mission and u have deaths or people with low mana it can be almost impossible to get rested as the minions will come attack your group and deplete u before u can regain forces. if the party is low health/mana, just tell Sintal "leave" and rest and regain health outdoors

i found that u can easily turn the items in to shrines just by running up to it clicking it and dropping item into it. found this to be a fairly easy mission if u dont let the minions bring u down.

we had this mission on normal drop a dru/mnk/bl wrist item that doesnt appear to be listed here, i will ask the bl that looted it the name so i can post it in next few days

also completed the mission on hard dif with 75 war 75 shaman 75 dru and 68 sk
dropped the silk handled hammer that was looted by friends beastlord

good luck to all who try this mission and my advice would be to have a good druid or other pulling class

can my 65 nec get into this instince with my 70 shammy and 70 clr. I hear tht necs can solo kite this easy and if so id like to 3 box solo with my 65 nec if possible. ty for any info as to level stuff on this o and does one of my 70 toons have to get the mission or can the 65 nec get it

Does anyone know exactly how or when the level average of the group is determined? i want the voodoo wand but me nd my friends are all level 75. is it determined only when the mission is gotten? In other words, if the whole group shrouds to 65 and then gets the mission, then unshrouds before entering the mission; will the loot table be as tho our average level is 65; or does it check for the average level when the chest spawns after the mission?

If it's like most Group Tasks, That won't work. As soon as your Avg Group Level goes above the limit, You get the 2 minute warning message that you need to comply or the task will end. So if you shroud down, you'll have to stay shrouded until the end.

it took us little more than 2 h

With nerv they added a mob just infront of the chest so the rogue strategy does no longer work.
Perhaps a bard may manage to platn the stones and fade.
We had to clear at least 2 spots for save delivery of the stones. We had to kill at least 30 mobs to clear so this mission target is no problem.
The minions are really a pain - when we received the emote we stayed in camp but no minion spawned - they allways spawned when you were pulling or fighting mobs.
Pathing seems also beeing nerved - I pulled a solo spider and ended up having 3 once 4 plus minions.
Most anoying was end of mission - couldn't loot - gor msg about agro presence - had to run through all hives to find a minion that was in hive 3. When we had this one pulled and killed - we got the crapy hammer as loot.
Lessons learned:
Our enc got 2 killups in mezzing
Our shm 2 skillups in OTing
Me (pala) 2 skillups in frustration (pulling and loot)
Only possitive aspect got 3 AAs (but who needs AAs when having 960)

proposal to the devs - limit minions to 5 or 10 and add this to mission tasks and fix that damned pathing in the hives

Anybody has worked out how the Summoned Minion spawns aggro?

Do they aggro on last or first person to zone in, do the aggro on distance, do they aggro only on one person or more? So is it possible to park a Bard/Monk/SK on the Bridge which fades/FD aggro off and rest of group can kill the 20 Spiders without interference?

EDIT: Seems they aggro the nearest person. And they do not have zonewide aggro. Through planting stones, fading or jumping off bridge into Stoneoroot, Mobs accumulate at odd places. Like poster below we tried to set up camp in the field (pulling to there is only possible through levitating to and from bridges since the 4 Hives are sealed from the field – can only grab 2 roamers in bottom floors). Once we neared the Hives from the field we had 2 Summoned Minions aggro on us and once 5 at same time (which wiped us).

So what did we do? We set up camp just behind Sintal and pulled from the Hives. Since we had to fight 1 or maybe 2 Summoned Minions in between getting a spider (falling of bridge, splitting spawn whatever). We ended up to tired to finish. 3h time (30 min for planting the stones and rest to try different strat and killing 11 Spider and approx 30 Minions). We go again but need a week to vent frustration hehe.

Overnerfed for sure: possible solution IMO would be to reduce spawns of Minions to 5 min once the 4 Stones are planted and 10 Minions are killed. So it still needs a group but is doable again.

We set up a kiting group consisting of 2 druids, a ranger, a monk, a magician, and an enchanter. After zoneing in with SoE, we ran over to the big open fields. The monk was able to pull single mobs to the field. Our idea was for the Ranger to kite the spiders and others would dps it. When a sumoned mob would pop, one of the druids would kite it while all others switched targets to take him down. These mobs are very easy and did not last long. 90% of the time the summoned mobs did not even pop in this location. They got stuck somewhere else in the zone. Since we had ample time to kill spiders we started having the monk pull 3 at a time. 1 for the ranger and each of the druids. We did have 1 occasion where we had more than 3 mobs in hte camp but once they were snared, there was nothing the poor little spiders could do about it. Anyway, using this method the mission was rather simple. Looked like chaos watching 3 toons run for thier life but like I said, once the spiders are snared they have no hope of living.
Post-Patch Woes

Since the release of PoR this mission is pretty nasty.

A minion will spawn at your group every 2 minutes. Wherever your group is, a minion spawns there every 2 minutes.

That is not so bad except that in addition to placing the 4 stones you must now also kill 20 drachnids....

So... Places the 4 stones... no sweat with invis / train / zone... Kill 20 drachnids with a minion spawning in the middle of your group every 2 minutes... ouch... harsh stuff. If it takes you more than ~45 seconds to kill each mob, you're going to eventually be killing nothing but minions, which do not count toward the 20 needed to kill for the mission.

Overnerfed. It needed adjustment, for sure, but this is too much.

Aye, a bit overnerfed. In my mind the other portion of the nerf was enough. Mobs all run faster than SoW speed, making escape after a turn in much more difficult.

I don't know how it went for real characters, but I 2 boxed kobold clerics for their divine aura to do this. I took many deaths to learn how to do it, and I still died occasionally when doing the mission. Ah well, not much chance of getting it partially un-nerfed, so this mission will be a bit neglected from now on. Too bad, it had a bunch of great rewards.

As a pally, I used a similar technique. I farmed a few candles and a Voodoo wand for the clerbot. Made a lil cash with the sellable loot, but I agree, the speeding of the undead pop timer makes this way too challenging for any group without a chanter.

With* a chanter for adds/pops and decent dps, I think its still doable, but incredibly more challenging. I for one am happy they recognized a need for a fix. I pray they didnt make the mission impossible for the average non-raiders.

Just a side note, the minions are undead, if no chanty available necro can keep mezzed. Did it that way recently, no chanty in grp but had 2 necros. Made crowd control pretty easy.

Sabatage has been nerfed. Now after turning the 4 stones in youll have to kill 20 mobs, normal mission 1st blue to me at 70 mob quaded my 11.4k hp 1650ac warrior and we boned out quick.

Pretty sure this drops in Sabotage!, normal, 68+ average. I didn't loot so am not 100% on the item.

There are also lesser cursor rewards for normal/hard if your group average drops below 68. I've seen both a lesser Fragment and a lesser earring.

After searching Google, Lucy, and this site; I have come to the conclusion that the infamous Voodoo Wand may drop here. The key is the level. Rumors of having the group shroud down to an average level of 68 or lower ( if allowed ) should cause the loot table to change. This change should cause the Voodoo want to show up as a possible chest reward at the end of Sabotage. If any one is willing to give this a try and confirm that would be great.

voodoo wand does drop here. I got it twice with an avg lvl of 65.666 (70+67+60shrouded). 2 drops out of about 10 missions. While in that group configuration there was only one mission option - no normal or hard option just "Sabotage", so I would assume that if you have the normal/hard option there's no chance of it dropping. Cleric and Necro are very happy toons now :)

Mission Strategy

I do this mission with 2 warriors and 1 mage. Both warriors go to Calisar and say 'more' and he gives you 4x dampening stone. Both warriors zone in with mage just behind them, making sure to invis the MOMENT we zone in (there are 2 pathers on the living bridge and 1 walks all the way to Sintal). If 1 of the pathers see invis... just save yourself some time and a headache and restart the mission. each warrior will go into the tower and hug the walls looking for the Ritualist guarding the Summoning Altar. Once we have dampening stone on cursor, signal the mage to start CoH, then charge the summoning altar and hit Evasive disc... hand dampening stone to altar and hit give. As SOON as you are summoned, target Sintal and say 'Leave'. CoH does NOT always wipe agro, and buggy warping can get REAL ugly.

It is always a good idea to have the mage zone in behind tank (get the amount of time it takes to zone figured out and make sure tank zones in a couple seconds before mage). If you zone in and the pather is on top of you, just train him to the opposite end of bridge, by that time mage should be in the zone and CoH you. If you see the "low chanting" emote, which means Summoned Minion has spawned, zone asap. This will stop him in his tracks instead of attacking you at zone in and becoming a pest. Training the minions and ritualists to the opposite end of bridge and CoH is a good method to get the minions and ritualists OUT of your way, because they will not path back.

It also helps to be buffed up good and have healers outside instance (in stoneroot) to heal you after training.

The chest spawns directly in front of Sintal once you have completed the third step, hailing Sintal inside the instance.

Becareful, summoned minions continue their cycle even if mission is finished.

btw, each "low chanting" line adds another summoned minion to the zone. The summoned minions appear right on top of one of the four altars.

Some of the mobs seem to have zonewide agro.

Where are the alters located?

Is there a maximun number of summoned mobs?

Do the summoned mobs path back to the alters once moved?

Do you have to be agro Free to place the stones?

There are 4 towers connected to the living bridges, from my experience there is 1 chest in each tower. The Summoning Altars can either be on the TOP floor or the BOTTOM floor (maybe even 2nd floor up, usually being too cautious checking for see invis to notice tho). The altar locations are changed randomly each mission. Each Summoning Altar is guarded by a drachnid Ritualist, which see invis. Also the summoned minions spawn on top of the altars (sometimes undead minions are summoned, which see invis).


From what I can tell, they continuously spawn on a 2.5 min timer (approx). It seems that the timer stops when nobody is in the zone.


The summoned mobs do NOT path back. Same goes for the ritualists.


No, handing in the stones are like handing in quest item to an NPC. You can hand them in while being beat on.

heres a hint you dont have to con anything to calisar. jsut be uninvised and say "accomoplished " to him he will give you teh mission.

then be sure and go over and hail his friend sintal. then to sintal say "ready" he will transport you to the instanced.

be ready to pop inviso when you get in cuz you may be sitting on top o a mob, maybe not.

i can solo this mission in about an hour as a 70 sk on hard. im sure you can figure the rest of it out.

Done this many times now to get the charm. 3 of us are necros and one SK. basically invis to the chest, burn invulernable and place the stone, then run somewhere and FD or off the edge and zone.

Summoned minions agro from anywhere so if you see an emote about low chanting, that means a minion popped so FD at once. They also corpse camp so if after you place the stone, you run back to npc to get ported out, some mobs will still be there at zone in.
