just make sure you're killing stoneroot basilisk named mobs not the tailmaster ones and u need just 25 of them.. Has nothing to do with clearing the islands.

Researcher Briznek says 'Savil has been with me for awhile now. We worked well together and he was very loyal. With him gone, progress has been slow. Computing computing computing. . . What a great idea! Would you be [willing to help me] with my research until Savil returns?' You say, 'I am willing to help you.' Researcher Briznek says 'Compute compute compute. . . Target ______ is willing to help. . . I need a few materials collected from the area so that I can continue my research. It will require traveling into the more dangerous areas of Stoneroot Falls. Is killing the 25 stoneroot basilisk the second step of the task? What are the other steps in the task?

Going near the named basilisk did not update my task for exploring the island. swimming under it gave me part of of of the other tasks and got a page from savil's notes. Is this bugged?
They changed this now... I'm got a task update for every balisk killed.

Sneak up on Grokul, the Slumbering Basilisk, to get the first task update. This reveals the next two parts:
Clear the island of the basilisks 0/25
Cut off the tails of the basilisks 0/4
This does not mean kill 25 of the beasts, it means clear the island 25 times, not counting Grokul.

Savil is in Stoneroot, in the drider-i-mean-drachnid city, up top of one of the narrower towers, on the S Side iirc. Has a drachnid standing on top of him.
