Talk to Dar Khura Pyjek under the south bridge, in the pit of Shar Vahl.

You say, 'Hail, Dar Khura Pyjek'

Dar Khura Pyjek says 'And hail to you adventurer. It is good to see one willing to brave the craters. I must warn you that there are deadly [scorpions] all around these parts. Some of them are quite large indeed, and their poison can be very deadly.'

    You say, 'What scorpions?'

Dar Khura Pyjek says 'It would be a great help if you assist us in reducing their numbers. As their numbers grow, more and more of them venture into our city and endanger our citizens. [Spiritist Ragnar] has supplied me with the means to create an anti venom, but I will need one of their stingers in order to do so. If you bring one of their stingers to me, I will cure you of such poisons.'

You say, 'Who is Spiritist Ragnar?'

Dar Khura Pyjek says 'Spiritist Ragnar is the owner of the alchemy shop in the merchants quarters. He has been researching the venom of the whiptail scorpions. If you happen to find any of their glands, it would be a tremendous help to him if you could supply him with some of these glands. Use caution, for there is a deadly one still roaming out there. We call him [Tailfang]. I would suggest steering clear of this little sucker? he is particularly nasty.'

    You say, 'Who is Tailfang?'

Dar Khura Pyjek says 'Tailfang has been responsible for many attacks. He is quite sly, and as yet our Taruun have been unable to find him. I saw him once, long ago. I was searching for bluecapped mushrooms among the stones when I saw something shiny underneath one of the rocks. As I got closer to look, Tailfang sprung at me with a dagger in hand no less! I swear this on my honor, although I still cannot believe it myself. I tried to slay the little bugger, but he ran off. I did get his dagger though, it's yours if you bring me proof of his death.'

Find Tailfang, a named scorpion light tan in color, and kill him. You can find him in the pit. He has a poison attack, and it is a close fight at lvl 7. He drops a TEMPORARY/LORE/NO TRADE Tailfangs Tail. Turn it in to Dar Khura Pyjek.

Dar Khura Pyjek says 'Great spirit you've done it! Thank you ______, we are in your debt. You have earned this weapon of the venomous scourge, wield it with honor and pride.'

Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl has been adjusted by 2.

This is a very easy quest for a baby rogue. I have a Cat for a rogue but think any race and any Bard, Rogue Beastlord & Warrior can do the quest since the only turn in is Tail Fangs Tail. The name runs around in the open and is seen frequently. You can preloot the item before grabing the quest. The NPC is in the pit up on the rocks on the Shadeweaver side.

a letter from Jharin Recruit Rinsha to Dar Khura Pyjek:

    Dear Sir,
I realize you may not recognize me immediately; doubtless you meet many new recruits venturing into the Pit beneath our city to prove themselves. Yet I take your words of warning to heart and thought to inform you of noteworthy events concerning such.
On the matter of the creature you spoke of as "Tailfang" - the first time I encountered him, I had not yet met you, and so I had no forewarning of exactly what I faced. At a glance, I thought of him as yet another troublesome scorpion, save for his distinctive (and admittedly eye-catching) reddish hue. Having felt his cruel barb for myself, I know now why you spoke so fearfully of him! I must emphasize that any new Vah Shir recruits should remain vigilant of this menace if they possess no extraordinary healing arts, and should err on the side of caution by not facing him alone in a fight.
After my first encounter with Tailfang, I must confess with chagrin my own clumsiness in squashing him flat, rather than saving a token from his carcass to prove my victory. In the following four days attempting to prove myself to Master Gherin, the potter, I put the incident quite out of my mind.
Then, on my fifth night in the Pit, whilst aiding Dar Khura Shavra to help the etherial spirits called "whisperlings", I fought and killed a magic-wielding frost covered hopling. That in itself might not interest you greatly, but I must point out that after four full days of seeing neither claw nor tail of Tailfang, within minutes of slaying the rather odd hopling, Tailfang appeared, in the open no less! Intrigued, I summoned and killed another hopling. That night, I fought the loathesome little bug-beast no less than FIVE TIMES within the span of a single hour!
I humbly request that you warn all recruits descending into the Pit to be aware of this fact. It may be nothing, but as you Khura are so fond of pointing out: "Once is luck, twice is happenstance, but thrice is an omen".

    respectfully signed, Jharin Recruit Rinsha

PS: I regret to inform you that as of this date, I have been unable to salvage Tailfang's infamous tail, as it seems rather delicate for being his signature weapon. I shall not give up though, so keep that dagger you mentioned ready - I will be claiming in good time.
    You got me...

Killed Tailfang about 10 times now to no avail. Finished the other parts of the quest rather easily. Either we don't know what to do next or the developers have left the quest unfinished. This will be good to keep an eye on in the future.

I have /bugreport 'ed it. Anyone else who has had this problem please /bugreport also. Thanks, Jolsh lvl 7 beastlord

I got a lvl 39 almost 40 Beastlord that finally got citizenship. Because I wanted the nice cloak that gives a 3-5% mod to tailoring, can't remeber exactly. Well that meant that I had to do the claw quest which starts out in the pit. Everytime I saw this sucker I'd kill him, thought to myself maybe he's a PH for the young rockhoppers. Friend finally told me what to do with what he drops. Crappy weapon at my level yes but as an Iksar I appreciate any good faction I can get, even if they do start off neutral. Oh and great experience only 10,394 more times till I ding Woot. P.S. No quest is worthless, for fun, faction, or P.H.A.T. loot.

Not sure if any one has noticed this, but I have found more Xakra kel items off the lesser shades than off the Shak Dratha. It may be that the shield is on a shade somewhere. Just a thought.

Tailfang wanders all over the crater. I in gfact killed tailfang underneath the bridge to Hollowshade Moor. You can't count on him always being at the loc you metioned.

However, Dar Khura Pyjek is stationary, and will always be at the loc you mentioned for him.
    Good Newbie Quest.

    Great Weapon
    # May 03 2002 at 7:40 PM Rating: Default
This is an awesome weapon. Even though it's only a 4/25, still good compared to the starting dagger, it has that poison DMG 2 thing which gives it the chance to be a 6/25 on each hit. If you are starting off as a twinked beastlord though you'd probably just blow off this quest but if you just decided to start out fresh and build up from scratch this is a very useful weapon to get. And so far Tailfang has been a very frequent spawn that isn't hoarded or anything so there are definately enough of these things to go around.

Not sure, but Scorpialis is mentioned in the Whisperling quest involving Dar Khura Shavra, and starts with the glowing stones near where Tailfang appears. I'd guess that Dar Khura Pyjek also responds if you ask him about Scorpialis.

Normally, I like to know how a quest gets from point A to point B instead of relying on someone to tell me. But this one has me a bit stumped -- is there any lead-in that would give someone the clue to ask Dar Khura Pyjek "Who is Tailfang"? in the first place?

It bothers me a bit that the only way to get to this point is through word of mouth.

I'm suspecting that at one point he actually responded to Hails (he doesn't now) and what he said led to that question, but I'd love to know for certain. My only other guess as to the lead in is some overheard dialogue from another NPC...

For one, Tailfang was rather easy at level 4 with a splintering club I got off some grimling skellie (I did have almost full padded armor from the whiptail gland quest). But....My Scorpialis has totally different stats than what is listed here. All 3 of the ones I've gotten so far have been 2/25 instead of 4/25, but with a poison dmg of 6, not 2. Anyone else get these?

hmmmmm just thinking that in the shield quest we had to say Lumanes at a hilighted rock......and there are several located within the pit, wonder if these might spawn a whisperling that is used to complete the quest.........will try when I get home today
    Level 7?
    # Feb 09 2002 at 4:18 AM Rating: Default
I was able to beat him faily easily at level 5 as a beastlord. I wish you could sell the Scorpalis, it seems like it would be good for a rouge or something (coming from a person whos never played a Rouge). Right now, it just sits at the bank, got claws of the beast. Awesome weapon for N00bs, that claws of the beast...
    RE: Level 7?
    # Mar 01 2002 at 2:11 AM Rating: Default
Yeah...I took him as level five beastlord, too...wielding the newbie issue dagger and having almost no armor. It can be done. Just take a page from the Hagakure, and when in doubt, choose death and proceed.
My theory was at level five I'm not losing any exp for getting made dead and it's not that hard to find your corpse, so just pounce on Tailfang whenever you see him and eventually, you'll have one of those fights where everything goes your way and his poison just doesn't get through.
Is it a great weapon? It'll do for now.

What are the other No Rent tails for?
    # Feb 06 2002 at 11:04 PM Rating: Default
The Whiptail Scorpions drop a No Rent item called "A Scorpion Tail". Does anyone know what to do with these? Pyjek and Ragnar didn't respond to them, but I didn't try a lot of other NPC's with them. Seems like they would be related to Tailfang's Tail (except they aren't Lore).

    Thanks!

in the later stages of the documented Whisperling quest one of the NPCs mentions that shiver (the whisperling) is now strong enough to blind your opponents with a flash of light...this suggests to me that the shield you receive should proc oh..."Flash of light" mabye?? however it does not...and it is suggested that you find an xakra shield to help stabalize and improve shiver's health......Xakra items drop from either gor taku or shak dratha...I'm not sure which I saw em drop from as I've been avoiding that faction nightmare for now...it might be both..

    but the point!

reading between the lines I'd say the whisperling quest is unfinished and finishing it might lend some clues as to what to do with Scorpialis......but from what I've read in the other posts the idea this quest falls in the rogue's domain is my personal favorite...I'd suggest taking to some of the wandering Taruun guards....I haven't seen very many vah shir rogues so I imagine this avenue is highly unexplored

    best of luck

PS..anyone tried turning in the TAIL instead of the dagger..there was some no rent items in the whisperling quest and the TAIL is no rent....could be something there...mabye...mabye not

    # Apr 07 2002 at 4:54 AM Rating: Default
Some thing to note i just finished the shield quest and one of the NPC's mentioned something about another whisperling NAMED Scorpialis... Maybe turning in the dagger and the shield to Spiritist Ragnar may result in something new? The shield quest is long i know and i dont think anyone wants to do it again if im wrong but, i might try . here we go i just came across this in reading ... as follows:

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Nicely done (name). This anchor should be sufficent to keep Siver bound to theis realm for a while. She is strong enough to blind your enemies with a bright flash of lite now, all you have to do is call on here spirit. ( Might be a clickable effect not shown??) I still cannot make complete sense of her thoughts, I think she is trying to tell me of ANOTHER whisperling entrapped within the crater. (Scorpialis?) Keep and eye open for the whisperling Scorpialis.

As u know Scopialis is the wep form the tailfang quest. But here it is mentioned as another whisperling. the preseding is an excert from that quest. 2cnd to last paragraph as i remember.

I think trying to give the completed shield and the Scorpialis to Ragnar isnt a bad idea but it is Really risky. i'll give it a try and let u all know what happens.. the following is the last Paragraph from the shield quest maybe it will give a little more insight.

Spiritist Ragnar says ' In the Meantime, you can sek out a shield made of Xakra. Xakra made of ethereal fabric of the spirit realm. I know the Shak Dratha within the thicket were weavers of this rare form of shadow silk. Such a shield can help us strengthen the anchor, making it easier for Siver to aid you. It will also Improve her health greatly. She has been through a lot and is in rather poor condition as it stands now.

I believe this leads to a magor shield upgrade combineing Siver, Scorpialis and some of that shadow silk. maybe by giving it to Ragnar or another NPC. Or a completely diffrent shield all together. These posibilities i shall explore and let u all know ( I hope im not the only one to try though) anyway thats my 2cp Im sure these two quests are tied together somehow... Luck.

Odd thing I saw somewhere (I believe Maiden's Eye). I was in a group, killing various mobs, and we killed an Umbral Toiler. Minus faction to Dratha, PLUS FACTION TO WHISPERLINGS! I was stunned to see that. I wonder if this shield goes all the way up the levels.

    Strange.

I'm planning on doing the shield quest and the Scorpialis quest and since i dont really need the scorpialis at all im gonna turn it in to that guy. ill post on here if it works

So i did it, got my ice shield thing from the whisperling quest and when i gave scorpialis to the guy, he said he didnt need it and handed it back, so i have no idea what to do with scorpialis
