I had no luck getting this guy to spawn at the dbl pops on the wall. out of sheer boredom i started clearing everything i could around there. he spawned at the large very blue crystals nearby a short time later.

I check track frequently, he's never there. This time on my way down I made it a point to kill the wall seated spawns.
I rechecked track after a while and he was there. Back up the ramp I go, and this time I see him, sitting where I cleared the first elevated spawn.

Our group (85 Magician boxing an 85 Cleric with tank mercenary and an 85 Enchanter, and me (85 Magician with cleric mercenary)) were trying to collect the First, Fifth, and Sixth Fragments of the Warriors' Disk and had established our camp in lower Vergalid Mines at approximately +80, -1460 (roughly the crest of the hill through the tunnel up from the water). There are only 2 pathers there (one comes up through the tunnel and the other, including the occasional Iico the Wanderer, paths up toward us from the spirial).
From this camp location, we have access to the PHs for Har`Lak the Ancient (at +85, -1355), Velosk (at +110, -1760) and, with a bit of clearing, Unearthed Mass (+300, -2100).
All was going quite well - simply clear pathers and static mobs across from the camp (at the outside edge at the top of the spirial), pull PH for Har`Lak, clear the bottom of the tunnel, pull PH for Velosk, clear the lake past the bottom of the tunnel, pull the PHs for Unearthed Mass, rinse and repeat. On various rounds we even managed to spawn Vu`Ryn the Stone Guardian and Skullrend.
I was pulling the last static spawn at the bottom of the tunnel and, when I got back to the camp, Har`Lak had spawned right on top of us. But that's not the point. Like I said, everything was cleared at that point. When Har`Lak spawned, not only did we have him and the mob I had pulled, but my partner said that she saw mob after mob coming up from over the edge across from us. There were a number of Spawn of Vergalid, Green Legion Elite, Researchers, Soldiers, Priests and Corpsetenders (they brought pets), and Voidspawn Golems and Bonefiends.
Our enchanter spammed AE mez and we managed to pick them off, one after another until they were all down. Basically we just assisted the tank mercenary, as it seemed there was always one that wasn't mezzed, and burn it down. Thank the Gods for Rancorous Servant!! All in all, we counted 21 corpses at the end of the battle. Har`lak dropped the First and Sixth Fragments of the Warriors' Disk.

My first time saw and killed him up in the easily missable crevice that you can see after you go past it on the left just after you enter the spiral area and go over the rise. Second time at the regular spawn (ph)right on the path on the left across and down from the Doomshriek shrooms right in front of the blue crystals, as the spiral starts to make its' first turn. Will leave him there for someone who can use him. Wish I could get the same luck with the Unearthed Mass.
He spawned for me in the tunnel between the lake and the spiral; the placeholder in this case appears to have been a Green Legion corpsetender, though I'm not positive on this point.
Well he finally decided to grace me with an appearance. When he finally did come out to play it was at the location mentioned by Thucidyes.

I think we've spotted the placeholder and /loc.

If you can make it down to the tunnel that leads to vergalid, this is also a good place to camp him. I believe there are about 5 spawns of vergalid down there. Problem is making it there, but if you got feign death you can basically levitate the entire way down, run in the tunnel , and feign death.

anyone have a known location of this guy ... ive tried camping the top of the spiral, and the base of the spiral, both for a few hours, and am yet to see him spawn
I have been camping this guy solidly for the past 16hours. I have gone from the top of the spiral to the bottom killing absolutely everything in my way and have not seen him spawn once.
I did find the 'caster' mob that was referred to in the posts here however I found him at 391, -1516, -648 area. Rul Somethingorother was also up at this location. Since killing the single 'caster' mob I have not seen another caster spawn in his place.
I am beginning to doubt this guy even exists.
Come on Sony if you are going to make a quest rely on spawns atleast have the common decency to give them a reasonable spawn timer.

He doesn't hit any harder than the rest of the trash/named down here (about 1850 or so max on my 10khp/2kac unbuffed monk with only 3% shielding), but he hits very fast even slowed. I was able to keep my monk alive with just my shammy's hot and chain casting heals, but had to burn him down fast. In a group with good dps, he goes down fast and much easier.
As far as drops go, I've seen him drop all tier 1 powersources in addtion to the listed loot, doesn't drop one every kill though. He always drops one of his loots and both the first and sixth fragments of the warriors' disk.

The best place to camp this guy is near the Iico the Wanderer spawn location (roaming spawn). Go past the locked door and continue east past the open area with the pools of water. To the south of this open area is a tunnel that bends to the west. The first part of this tunnel has no static spawns, just a single roamer, and is a great place to set up camp. Just over the hump at the top of the tunnel (where the spiral starts) there are several static spawns. Two of the spawns are "a spawn of vergalid" that are a little way up a small ledge on the left. Har`Lak the Ancient can spawn in any a spawn of vergalid location. Iico the Wanderer has a roaming PH that comes to the top of the spiral so you can also get this named. If you have a raid geared group, you can clear down the spiral about 15 spawns and you will be killing another roaming PH for Corpsetender Xacine, who drops a nice 110 HP aug. If you have a good puller, you can also kill "a granite sentinel" from the room with the pools. One of the sentinels roams right to the mouth of the tunnel behind this camp. The granite sentinel spawns Vu`Ryn the Stone Guardian.

I've only ever seen him on the Inner Vergalid (keyed) side, near where the doomshriek mushrooms are. Not sure where he spawns because he never goes home. One day I saw him near a mushroom, the next I saw him in between doomshriek and twittering mound mushroom areas.
