70 mage solo kill

Came across this guy today on Mischief while I was faction grinding. He was aggro and green and I thought he was just another named, so I went ahead and engaged him along with a few grey cons. Realized after not too long I screwed up. Decided to go ahead and try to take him down anyway, but I did call out to see if any warriors in the zone or guild needed him as I did the fight. Took roughly 30 minutes to kill as a solo mage. He was incredibly magic resistant, so basically all my damage came from my water pet (who was thankfully buffed to the gills). I'm raid geared, but not overly well (patchy bits of gear from time through anguish as I only raid about once every other week) and have my 1.5. Do not recommend trying to kill him just for funsies.

After ninety seven minutes of running around the zone holding the Temporary rock while checking the posted ground spawn spots, I finally zoned out to Bloodfields and back into Dranik Scar.

Perhaps by coincidence, the rock went active seven minutes later and led me to the Blackfall Borer.

It seems a quest not thought through completely when you are given an item that not only vanishes should you log, but requires you to stay online for nearly two hours before the mob shows up.

Unlike the previous posters or the maps from mapfiend suggest, I couldn't find the ore as a ground spawn at any of the locs. However, after waiting with the energy receptor on my cursor for over 15 minutes, thinking the quest was broken, I suddenly started getting directions to the Blackfall Borer. It reminds me of the test of patience from the Shaman epic. Looks like you need to just wait, because it will eventually start working.

In my case, it took me to just outside the wall near the Bloodfields zone line (approx. +1600, +1400), which is not a marked ore spawn point. The ore was on the ground right underneath the Blackfall Borer (doesn't see invis).

Hope this helps anyone wondering like I did if something was wrong. It's not; patience is key.

Blackfall Borer
# Aug 05 2008 at 6:44 AM Rating: Decent
Brought book to Korbuk and got stone on my cursor to find the Blackfall Borer. sat next to Korbuk for around 20 minutes until stone activated (be carefull as you wait you will get a few mobs to kill). It will say to your left or stright ahead and to the right. I used an invis pot and followed until I had him in site. Knowing he has a very large aggro radius and I couldn't take a chance on getting killed or killing him i was far enough to where I could barely see him and just kept conning him to make sure. He sat in same spot for about 20 minutes then moved and disapeared. I ran to spot but nothing. I invised again and sat next to a tree on hill to make sure i had a side covered from mobs. I sat for about 45 minutes and nothing was showing on the rock as to where the Named mob was. I had to invis again and then the bag appeared right where he was standing. I apologize for not getting the exact location but it was by hills near where the bats are and a bridge (if that helps at all). All in all he actually just stays put for awhile then dissapears then after awhile the bag appears.

Well, he still spends time up near the Bloofields zoneline and yes he has a ridiculous aggro range. 74 bard used fading memories and he kept showing up again. think he just reaggroed because I could sit down and heal up. bugger sure makes it hard to work on my Dranik Loyalist faction

I am level 60 Rogue 24 AA. This borer fellow killed me and my level 60
Shaman companion pretty damn fast. We did not pull him. I think someone pulled him and got in over their head. We were on hill near priests and doing murkgliders. He hit from 250 to 850 damage. He conned light blue. Info says he level 50. Can this be true? Never before got wasred by a critter that is
ten levels lower than I. Appreciate any info.

Sat here in zone for about 2 hrs, trying all the different locations for drops and spawns, I followed what -= True Believer said: purpose....he drops it everytime if left alone (rarely)...at aprox loc pos 576, by neg 812 =- spawn was right around there, and I got the drop at loc pos 664, neg 835, neg 180, ran around after I followed this guy couldn't find the ore... about 45 min after he poped and I was about to catch him on his next cycle I noticed it on the ground at that location. Hope this helps.

The scoop

Since all the usefull info on this guys seems to be somewhat scattered I'll sum everything up based on my encounter.

If you find the blackfall borer just standing around not moving anywhere that means someone has most likely aggroed him before he despawned. He pops about every hour at loc (-846, 1059). He'll then walk north toward the BF zoneline and turn east when he gets to the ramp in front of the BF zone leading down to the main part of DS. At the bottom of the ramp he'll turn south and follow the west wall for a bit before despawning. He is reported to drop the ore every time at some point along his path, however most report to have picked up the ore right at his spawn point of -846, 1059. This is where I found the ore. It just looks like a normal little bag like most ground spawns. I found it probably 15 minutes after he despawned but I'm not sure how long it will last on the ground. He doesn't see invis so following him shouldn't be hard however make sure to avoid see-invis mobs along the way as he has a very large aggro radius and it seems that his normal pathing routine is broken if he is aggroed.

If you do happen to aggro him or you come across him just standing there then you'll have to kill him to get him to respawn and begin his normal pathing again. He is a very tough fight at lvl 70 making this a huge overcon at lvl 50. He is basically immune to any spell other than unresistable spells. Because of this it turns out to be a melee only fight and a VERY long one at that. He has a ton of HP, hits for max 800, and boxing a 70 war, 70 bard, 70 druid it took a little over 30 mins to kill him. With kei and a mount the druid was basically just barely keeping up with heals ending the fight at about 90% mana. He didn't drop anything and about an hour after he was dead he popped again, dropped his ore on the ground, and started walking his normal path.

P.S YES he summons.

Are you absolutely sure of this location? None of the maps I have looked at show this as the spot.

Thanks for this post. I got my receptor today and it was immediately active. I followed it to the ramp down from Bloodfields and found the Borer. I followed him to the bottom of the ramp where he turned Nortth, then for a few more yards before he stopped and despawned. I looked around the spot but could not find the ore. I checked several other locations mentioned in these posts without any luck. Finally I checked and found the ore around -835, 1065. This was at least 30 minutes after the Borer had despawned.

Killed this guy today, not knowing anything about him. Just saw a giant ukun named on track, and noticed it had just noticed me. He had huge agro, and anyhow, it was a 9 minute fight with a 74-Zerker, 73-Shaman, and a 72-Bard. Didnt have anything on him. Was a long fight. Shammy sting of queen landed for under 1k when it landed. Nothing else landed, except unresistable mala. Had to save mana for HoT on the Zerker.

I ran into this guy by accodent today near the NC ZL. I'm a lvl 66 pally and had a lvl 67 cleric and lvl 46 bst with me. He coned light blue so I thought no problem. After beating on him for a while cleric ran out of mana from all the heals we had to run. When my group zoned we had only gotten him down to 95%. I would sugest staying away from this guy unless you have a good high level group.

I also ran into him near the NC ZL. I thought heck, a light blue named here, let's see what he drops. Well he would have easily dropped a 67 paladin if the ZL weren't nearby. He hit me for 7846 dmg in 52 seconds. Max hits were 582 to 745 with my AC 1609 and several defensive aa's. I was able to do 4461 dmg to him during that time and I didn't put a dent in his HP %. He must have an insane regen rate.

He didn't use any magic vs. me and resisted the few stuns I attempted. Hope this info is helpful to someone.

People from certain guilds on Drinal think its fun to kill this guy to stop people from progressing and think its funny...and SOE makes the locator item temporary....this part of the 1.5 is bogus.

People keep training him to the bloodfields zone. He sees invis, and doesnt roam away.
So, folks near it that want to faction, get some folks to kill it.

I ran into it there killing the faction groups, so decided to kill it. 20 minutes later, we were still beating on eachother, and the group came back to res, so one of their rangers helped plink it down.

well, in Feb of 06, he did. He was agroing everyone that tried to pass him while invis.
Someone running to zone agros, he chases to zone line. THen others popping out get agro and die near the faction group. He kills faction group, and agros someone else invis coming to zone, and waits at zone line for the next one zoning out. Kills them as well. Sits there and agros the next invis person that came running by.

I decided to kill him just to relieve people of the headache.

20 minutes later, when I realised how much hp he had, and that we would be beating on eachother all night, I asked one of the faction group people to help after he looted his corpse.
