Apparently this can now be purchased from the /marketplace in-game at a cost of 500 gold. I am curious if the marketplace item and this OOW item have the same effect?
i was looking at this after seeing in my bank, and thought: Gelidran Aura...Gelidran...RSS....Faction? so maybe it can raise faction with gelidrans in RSS, im going to check to see if im right lol
For the past few weeks I have not seen a particle effect come out of this item. No more snow dancing around my character :( It still takes up a buff slot called 'Gelidran Aura', but other than that it does not seem to have any function what-so-ever.
To have removed the only real use this item had is just downright pathetic. Some of us -want- to be sparkly and shiny. And really.. there is no other purpose for this.
Anyone else confirm the particle effect was permenantly removed, or is it just broken like so many other things?
It's not a normal invisability (I can still see me without my name in parenthesis). However invis Vs undead, and invis Vs animals aren't noticable besides the buff slot, so perhaps this spell makes you invisible to some certain mobs out there? Summoned maybe?
it is NOT sonys responsibility to get people to buy the "retail" version of the game. It is the stores responsibility to do that. it maybe an INCENTIVE to get them to buy the retail version to help the stores out. period. if the store is going "belly up" maybe the store is who is responsible for that problem. NOT sony.
however, i do believe the incentibe should be presented to us, by whatever means we preferr to purchase the game. digital or retail. OUR choice. I found the game to be the same price, either way. digital was just faster, where as , depending on the store--and if-they were out of stock.than what do we do..wait.........
the "key" chain in the retail box, yes, they want the key chain they buy retail. but the free weapon should be available to everyone that purchased the game. period.
Well, this thing does nothing. I tried both the cold and the fire. The clicky is not doing anything. NO COLD (or fire) spell damage enhancement, no damage shield,no mana regen... what a stoopid thing
Why do the ppl who get box setts get a free item? When us others download the game get nothing from sony. I hope sony acctually will give us something for those who get it via sony download.
Those who D/L from Sony dont get anything? Well, how long did YOU have to wait to play the game? Took us a couple days for the expansion to even show up in the store. Even when we have pre-ordered some of them in the past, we had to wait until the following day to get them.
What you got was instant game when the game went live. Stop yer griping and buy it retail if you want extra goodies.
If you dont wanna, deal with not having a Faction Modifier Staff or some other trinket.
OK, just to add in another complaint outside of the fact no one knows what the thing does, why did they have to make it range only? I'm a Ranger, I use my bow alot, it's my weapon of choice. Aint no way I'm swapping my Primal Velium reinforced bow for this piece of junk.
I have found this item to be GREAT!!! I don't know if anyone has noticed that is using this is your mana regenerates a whole lot quicker not to mention the stats it gives....I love it, you can even cast it while fighting a creature because you dont have to target yourself and it NEVER fizzles....I do understand what you are saying about the range thing....
.. Even if in the end there is no actual stat-enhancing effect from this, at the very least it is a mana free way to work up skill in what is usually the last school of magic to get any consideration. I have grouped with many an end-game level caster that still manages to fizzle when trying to cast a high level divination school spell. This little trinket is a fine way to get that pesky school mastered during downtimes once and for all... Oh, and it can never hurt to have another free means of filling "junk-buff" slots prior to fights with magic-cancelling mobs =)
(but I hope there turns out to at least be some actual in-game benefit to having the buff on)
SOE made the effort of creating two in game items, the Burning Crystal Shard and the Frozen Crystal Shard, with two effects, Pyrilen Aura and Gelidran Aura, with two different particle effect graphics.
They also added an NPC, with dialog, that can swap out each item. His name is Bertrand Bibblesworth.
It seems like a lot of effort was put into this.
My idea is to use both items simultaneously and STACK the effects. I tested it, and it can be done. You can be covered in flame and snow at the same time. You'll also have around 10-12 minutes to see if anything happens with both Pyrilen Aura and Gelidran Aura going concurrently.
Indeed there is some effort in putting this NPC for simple toys. But I have looked up for Gelindran and Pyrilen (names of the effects of both shards) in Allakhazam's spell search and I found other spells with the same name (for example Gelindran's Anger) that improves dmg of fire or cold based spells. These spells also have different upgrades still using the same name going from 25% to 50% I think. So there must be some quest to upgrade the shards to those spell effects. Just my 2 copper

So far the only benifit I can see from this effect is a free junk buff. From dispelling mobs. If that is the case a fire or ice effect is up to the user by turning in to the gnomb guy mentened by Cphopp below...
They have to give some incentive to buy the game from the store. If they make the stores angry then the stores won't carry the game, if the stores don't carry the game then they don't get any new customers from the stores.
They still want new customers, so they have to do something. The retail outlets got upset about LoY where you got it cheaper by downloading it AND got it sooner. So, since then, they've tossed in benefits for retail purchases. It seems as if the in-game benefit is getting weaker and weaker, though.
