Aren't guns, grenades, and thermal nuclear devices forms of destructive protection?

No. You see, Destructive modifies Protection, as in, this blade protects you from destruction (Aura of Destruction) which is a hella nasty AE that hits you a while after you zone into Uqua (I've only been there once, zoned in because we could).
From aura of destruction, all of my stats were at 1, with the exception of STA and STR, which were at about 40 and 75, respectively. Soooo, protecting yourself from this aura is A MUST! Too bad these aura protection items are No Rent and poof when you die. No leaving corpses around to hold 'em for ya. :(
