They recently changed the Necro/SK spell Lifedraw from a 45 point lifetap to a 105 point. But the Black Acrylia weapons I've been using (Rapier, Long Sword) still only do the 45 point version, though the name of the proc is still Lifedraw.

Very disappointing, hope it changes for the better soon.

At 43rd this item has the full stats listed, it still won't proc for another 2 levels but it is a 9(+2 magic)/20 weapon

The weapon does not look like a normal EQ Rapier (that is to say like a fencing foil) but more a traditional rapier, a long, thin bladed, sword. The blade has the Velious, translucent look to it and the grip is light green in colour...Looks good on elves and bards, not so good Ogres and Barbarians, if you get my meaning.
Level to attempt?

What should minimum level to attempt this be you think (in terms of blacksmithing skill)? A guildmate has a 180 skill - should I wait for her to get above 200? Thx for help.

They are reported not to be trivial at 250. So 180 is definatly too low. From what I heard they are around 60% succes at 250 skill, and success goes up one point per skill, so I really would not reccomend trying below 230 or so effective skill.

I made this yesterday with 209 skill. I went 1/1 making the rapier and a BA longsword, then went 0/3 on the halberd.

I made this today with 179 skill, but I had the 15% hammer so its modified up to 205 skill. I attemped four BA combines:
1 Black Acrylia Rapier (success)
1 Black Acrylia Morning Star (fail)
2 Black ACrylia Halberd (fail)

I honestly wasn't expecting to succeed, but I certainly was excited when I did!

going though and looking at some of these comments, i realised that what happened witht he black acrylia weapons may be kinda like what happend to the DE newbie armor quests when they first came out: the inventory grpahics showed a part totally different from what was shown ont he character. So hopefully, soon, they will fix it so that the BA weapons have the proper graphics. and if this is all part of an evil VI scheme to confuse us? so be it. i'd still love to get my hands on one of these things.

This weapon has an awesome graphic the way it is. No need to change it into some metal tooth pick.

The "Black Acks" are a new line of swords made by high level blacksmiths. There are other black acrylia weapons in addition to this one. They have a very good damage ratio, and should soon become popular. Here are the stats of some others, according to EQTraders.com:
Weapon del dam other
Bl. Acrylia ******* Sword 30 14 +2 magic damage
Bl. Acrylia Scimitar 22 10 +1 magic damage
Bl. Acrylia Long Sword 25 12 +2 magic damage

I'm a noob for this silly reply system.. can someone explain to me what +2 magic damage actually means? i know +2 say.. undead dmg means that the weapon has 2 added to its damage when it is against a mob that is undead.. but +2 magic damage has me baffled
RE:
# Nov 11 2002 at 6:28 PM Rating: Decent
magic damage is bonus damage that has its resist rate base on your target's magic resistance.
any base damage bonus is always good, however personally, i wish it was poison or disease damage, as most mobs have higher magic resist than they do any other resist.
About the price.

Look it up, they all require the same exact items to be made. I've heard rumors of some being less trivial, and therefore easier to make, however, this is as of yet unconfirmed. If you would only charge 5k to 6k for a rapier, then you should also charge 5k to 6k on the halberd. Why? Because as of the knowledge gained so far about them all, they require the same items to be forged, and they seem to have around the same success rate.

Keep into account, I'm not even going to get a halberd, I'm a bard, 2 hand slash is as usefull to me as 2 hand blunt. So I'm getting the scimi and rapier respectively.

What it cost to make it is irrelevent. what matters is the stats relative to the dropped weapons. There are several smithed items that are rather costly to make, that NOBODY wants to buy (for example, unimbued field plate armor). Add an imbue, and they are easy sales at double the money. Ero marr imbue uses a gem that costs 1pp. It adds 4wis 2 str 2 cha to the bp. Is that worth more than 1pp? Yep, sure is.
RE: About the price.
# Sep 02 2002 at 4:03 AM Rating: Default
I didn't mention this a minute ago. But, per try, it's about 300p per ba wep. I'm saying that one should ask for 5k, to 6k per weapon. Your still talking an immense profit here. Keep in mind, I'm also speaking for the economy of my server, and whatever server you play on may be entirely different from mine, as each server is it's own world.

Well, regardless of the server played on, your cost estimate is wrong.

Each BA weapon takes TWO BA tempers one to make the sheet, one for the weapon combine). Each temper requires an Akheva blood, an essence of darkness, and a vial of distilled mana. The mana vial takes 2 sapphires and a poison vial to make. Assuming you got an enchanter to make the vials FREE, you are already up to 413pp in materials, just making the vials.

Also assuming you get the akheva blood and essence free, you then need to buy the molds, which would add 12pp for this weapon, and about 23pp for the halberd.

Ok, now back to reality:

Akheva blood sells for 200-1kpp on my server. You need 2
Essence of darkness is about 5pp each (2 again)\
Bricks of black acrylia 50-100pp each
Most enchanters charge from 50-200pp per vial to make the mana.(2 again)

Total cost:

Best prices: about 1050pp

Worst prices: about 3000pp, not 300

And your analysis of the numbers doesn't take into account failure rates or expense of getting to be a highly skilled smith to make these. Nor does it take into account availability of comparable weapons.

So 5-6k is not that bad of a price. Especially not in these days of wealth. (Compared to the frist couple years the game was out a lot of people are very wealthy)

NOTICE I said COST estimate, not price estimate. I was disagreeing with the guy who was saying these things are only 350pp to make.

Unfortunately, on my server (rodcet nife) the bazaar sale price on these is down to about 2500pp, which I think is low.

Never said 5-6k would be unreasonable, so not sure why you rated me down.

Thanks for nothing.

That price sounds about right. I'd put this weapon over a Blood Point, which goes for about 4.5k on The Nameles. Although the Blood Point has a better proc, in terms of lifetap (not sure on the proc rate), the extra +2 Magic Damage on this Rapier is very very nice - so 5-6k sounds like a pretty good deal.
eh?
# Jul 14 2002 at 3:59 PM Rating: Decent
What do you think one of these would go for, hopefully not as much as they halbred!
RE: eh?
# Jul 14 2002 at 5:40 PM Rating: Default
I don't think they'd go for as much as the halbred. I made this one for a friend who had supplied the components. I would probably only ask 6-8k for this one if I were to make one to sell.

i'd heard somewhere that the black acrylia rapier has a different look when wielded than other rapiers(ie. dragonspine rapier looks like the rusty rapier you got at lvl 2) is this true? can anyone post a link to a pic of someone with a BA rapier?
thanks!
