Classes: The Rogue

Rogues - Masters of Stealth. With a variety of completely unique skills, and a fighting style all their own, rogues can be one of the more difficult classes to learn to develop and play correctly.

How should you play your rogue to best take advantage of his strengths and weaknesses? What skills are the most useful, and what is the best way to use those skills? Can a rogue be soloed, and if so how? How should you play your rogue in a group? What equipment should you be searching for?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Rogue and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

You can only use it on humanoid mobs, for one thing. And I don't quite remember, but I think you can only get skill increases from light blue or higher mobs, so the same rule as weapon skills. An easy way to max it out, is just put it in your hide/backstab macro.

Pick pocket goes up on green mobs

Was desparate for a group one night, got a tell to come to HHK to do some guards, well I never had any need to go there after my warrior and wifes shammie did the basement...so I figure why not, well now Im KOS there...so I look here to fix faction so I can do epic 1.0 and I need faction here...well anyway the bandits in NK by the beach will raise this faction they are all green to me ( 34 rogue ) but they spawn like mad. and from reading up on epic i see i need Pick-pockets at 200ish so I try with them..even though they are level 12 Ive gone from picking of 120ish to 160 off of them was still going up. Ive killed them for around 6 hours and they spawn every 4-6 minutes still KOS btw :P

Yeah you can skill up from green mobs too... Was in GF killing Orc Centurions at Orc Hill today to get PP skill up and got at least 2 point increases while fighting green mobs...

Auto-fire? Duke that I'd love to see. How does one level a skill that requires a target to use to start with? Cause if it will go up without actually having to try to pick pocket someone I'm sure we'd all love to know.

try the translocators in zones like oasis and nro and such. you should get skill ups but no plat and i remember reading they are non aggro mobs so no need to worry about that either

2.6.6 Is there a level cap for pickpocketing creatures?
Yes. The cap is either level 45 or your (own level - 5), whichever is higher. So, until level 50 you will only be able to pickpocket mobs that are level 1-45, but starting at level 51 you can pick higher mobs (46) too, until at level 60 where you are able to pick mobs that are up to level 55.

that is something that i just read in a safehouse forum. got a question for anyone that might know. i am a lvl 18. does this mean that i am not able to pickpocket a lvl 40 NPC? lets say i wanted to go out to rathie mts. and pickpocket giants. do i have to be a higher lvl to do this? my sill is maxed out right now at 95.

I trained my rogue at first on guards around Kelethin. (Resulted in alot of deaths, mind you.) But I found a good way to do it, if you don't want to waste time that you'd normally use training is set PP to a hot button. While your fighting, tap the attack off, PP what you're fighting and tap it back on. At lvl 34 I have a PP of 162. Then again, I never thought of the soulbinders.

from my experience, you can pick pocket from higher lvl mobs
HOWEVER
it is rare to get a SUCCESSFUL pick pocket on higher lvl mobs, making it more efficient to PP on same/lower lvl mobs and work your way up to HGs when you get more lvls

I just began a rogue and enjoy playing him. I got this tip from a high level rogue when I partnered with his alt in PC. He showed me the Evade hotbutton but it works for Pickpocket as well.

Make a hotbutton. Label it Steal or whatever.
Line 1 = /attack
Line 2 = /doability # (whatever yer Pickpocket ability number is)
Line 3 = /attack

Hit this button during battle. Just be sure you are attacking before hitting it. It works great. My lvl 15 rogue has a Pickpocket skill level of 45.
