December 20, 2000:  I just wanted to remind people that part of what makes some of the features work on the site is your continued input.  This of course means submitting new items, quests, skills, etc. that you discover as well as sending in corrections on those that are already listed.  It also means rating up and down the comments added to the items, quests, mobs and strategies by the other players.  This lets everyone get past the drek and quickly find the more interesting information.  And, please keep adding prices to the items whenever you have a good idea of their price.  Because the database started out with very few prices in it, we have defaulted the price part of the character update search to include items that do not have prices (if not, you would have found very few items when you did a search).  Thus, the more prices that are added in, the more accurate this search will become.  Also, the more prices added to a single item, the more likely that it will be priced correctly, so feel free to add a price to an item even if someone else has already done so.  Thanks.

December 18, 2000:  One of the more requested features has been to continue to update the old quest lists, which contained the walkthroughs of every quest in a zone on a single, long printable list.  We have finally moved the database information into that format.  Thus, when you click on Quest Lists, you will now get a list showing the descriptions of each quest in the zone.  You can then click on the links to the more detailed information if you want. Be forewarned that for some zones, that is going to be a big file.  This list will get updated every night.  Clicking on Quests by Zone will continue to bring up the short list, which should be easier on those without fast internet connections.

I thought you might want to know that, according to a Sony press release, they sold 100,000 copies of the Scars of Velious in the first 5 days, and Kunark sales have also taken off.  I guess we should expect a lot of newbies after Christmas.  Cool.  Personally, I like to see new players in the game.

December 12, 2000:  More stuff keeps coming in on Velious.  So here is another dose.  I am updating the zone information as I get enough information to feel comfortable with the update.  This is obviously an ongoing process.  I updated the zone level chart to add in the Velious zones where I have a decent idea as to which levels they cover.  Let me remind everyone that there are zone strategy discussion sections available for each zone, including the new Velious ones, if you want to pool your knowledge on them.  Also a note on item weights.  If I don't know the weight, the description defaults to a weight of zero, so basically if the description does not have an image and the weight is listed as zero, do not automatically assume that the actual weight is zero.

December 7, 2000:  No you are not seeing things.  You are still on AllaKhazam's Magical Realm.  Just a slight change in format.  As you can see, I got rid of the frames and changed around the design.  Besides looking a little better, it should be easier to navigate this way, and you won't have to deal with those annoying frames any more.  The menu is designed to make it easier to find the many new features that have been added over the past few months, and still find the old stuff as well.  I know there are some of you who still miss the old ogre and wizard animation from way back when the site started, but, just keep saying the mantra:  change is good - change is good.  Expect a few glitches until we get it completely done.

December 5, 2000:  Well new information is starting to come in on the Velious Zones.  Much of it is still sketchy, but I am putting up what I feel confident in.  Expect to see a lot of updates hereover the next month or two as more of Velious gets explored.  If you loaded Velious in today, be sure to hit the Velious patch button. There is a big patch sitting there, which I would assume you may need. And feel free to send in screen shots of any new items you discover. I would ask that you please convert any images into jpeg or gif for first, for easy downloading (you can do this with the standard paint program). Also, for those who don't know, Firiona Vie is being featured on the cover of next week's TV Guide. You can see the cover art here. I don't know what this has to do with television, but it is a nice picture.

December 4, 2000:  Just one day until the release of Velious.  I would recommend that you read the supplemental manual that was added to your Everquest directory with this latest patch.  It should beat at C:/Program Files/Everquest/eqmanual_supplement.doc in your computer. They added a lot of new changes -- too many to detail here (especiallywheneveryone has it in their computer already).  The equipment database is running a little smoother now.  A number of the problems it initially had are cleared up, and a few new features have been added.  Just a reminder that when submitting new items, please state what dropped the item, and what zone it was found in.  At the least, please specify if the item is aVelious, Kunark or Planar item.

December 3, 2000:  Have a little patience with the equipment database.  Most of it is working great, but there are still a few bugs that are being ironed out.  We expanded the site into a second server on Friday and added the item database on Saturday, so there are bound to be some kinks in both.  I know I've made a ton of corrections since yesterday, and Illia has fixed quite a few bugs already.  We had hoped to have this all done a few weeks ago, but of course you can never count on things goingto schedule, and with Velious coming out in just two days, it was necessary to get things up now, even if they weren't perfect.  Once things areworking as expected, the site should run very fast from here on, even in the heavy load times when the game servers are down (such as tomorrow --*knock on wood*).  I want to thank you all for the excellent feedback we have gotten so far.  Please keep adding prices in when you are sure of the price of an item.  Also, I want to again remind you that you should hit the "send a correction" link (which brings up an e-mailto me) when you have an addition or correction that belongs in the body of the description, rather than adding it as a comment.  I have been trying my best to keep up with the comments, but I always read my e-mail,so it is far more likely to get fixed if it comes as an e-mail.
 

December 2, 2000:  I am happy to announce that the new equipment database is up and running.  As usual, thank Illia for doing a great job on the programming.  This can be used in several ways.  In its simplest form, it can be used in the same way as the old lists.  Just click on a slot and you will get a list of all the items for that slot, just like the old list.  The order of this list can then be changed,and it can be filtered down to a specific class (and stat, assoon as we add that in) if you want.  A more complex search can bedone using the search feature.  This lets you search for a specific term, or narrow a search by class, slot, item level, item price, and stat. And, for an even more in depth search, you can enter your character's information, including the items he or she currently owns and the amount of platinum pieces you have to spend, and do a search for updates that will tell you which items are better than the ones you currently have that you can either afford to buy or can reasonably hunt for at your level.  I think this is the coolest feature of the database.  Be sure to check it out. (Though the equipment you can afford feature won't work too well until more pricing information gets entered into the database).  The equipment database is (or will soon be) integrated with the quest database and with Illia's Beastiary, so that you can immediately go to the quest description if the item is part of a quest, or go to the Mob description it the item is dropped by a Mob, and you will be able to click to the item description from the quests and Mobs.  And, as with the rest of the database,you can add your own comments to each item, and rate the comments that other people have added.  As with the quests, there is a submit a correction button that opens an e-mail for you to submit corrections or new information on the item.  If you have information that you believe should be added to the body of the description (such as what Mob drops the item), please use this rather than adding it as a comment.  Itis much more likely to get added that way.

Just a note.  Although we are launching the database today, there are still a few things we plan on adding to it over the next few days.  I just wanted to get it up and running prior to the release of Velious on Tuesday, mainly so I didn't have to keep adding each new item to both the old equipment lists and the new database. Also, being brand new, most of the items do not yet have a price on them.  If you know the going price of an item, please add it in.  Some of the search features rely upon the items having prices, so it would be a great help if everyone can add in prices when they know them.  Thanks.

Addendum -- There are a few bugs that we are working on.  The ranged slot is not registering, and the character selection screen is buggy (it sometimes says you need to log on when you are already logged in).
