Description

The Fishing Guild key item Serpent Rumors is required to start this quest.

Talk to Irmilant to start the quest. She tells you to obtain two Ex bait items, a Drill Calamary and a Dwarf Pugil, both of which can be found by turning in fish to Zaldon as part of the Inside The Belly quest. Alternatively, the baits can be obtained by winning the Pirate's Chart fight.

Fish up a Gugrusaurus using the Drill Calamary and trade it in for a Saber Shoot. Fish up a Lik using the Dwarf Pugil and trade it in for an Opal Silk. Trade the Saber Shoot and Opal Silk to Irmilant. Wait one day and talk to Irmilant again to receive your Ebisu Fishing Rod.

At what fishing skill would be a safe bet to pull in these fish 85, higher? I have the quest active, but couldnt reel in fish at 78, or do i need to take it to 90+ ?

Let's change the start area for this quest to Rabao, where it actually starts. FFS I ran to Selbina to talk to Irmilant.

The onlt thing that has changed.... or that people found out anyway... was that you don't necessarily need the special rare/ex baits needed to catch th main fish. Some people spent forever and a day trying to first get the rare/ex baits and THEN going after the main fish for the rod parts. But I belive standard meatballs are able to catch one of these fish and another readily available bait will catch the other.

Of course, you won't ever catch these fish at all until you've opened the quest. (Level 78 needed plus the Key item "Serpent Rumours")

I have heard reports of someone completing this quest just nine hours after getting it by using the normal baits available. How true that is I really don't know. But somebody else took a full year of fishing doing it the rare/ex bait way.

Okay just started this quest, so this is a work in progress post:
Requirements: Serpent Rumors Key item (95,000 GP at Fishing Guild, lvl 78+ fishing)
Convo with Irmilant:
Irm: Things of substance will inevitably be destroyed. There comes a time when even the most resilient spirit will be broken...
Irm: Hmmm...
So, you have the serpent rumors.
Irm: There is more to the rumor than you know.
The branch and the thread that those monstrosities have swallowed are the base materials for a legendary fishing rod.
Irm: Should you manage to obtain those materials, bring them here to me. I am the only one left alive who can craft the rod or legend.
The only quest for Ebisu Rod

This is the same quest as has ever been for Ebisu Rod... Allakhazam just never had any information about Ebisu Rod, the items needed for the quest, or the Quest itself until now

The quest is virtually impossible if u have ever attempted it, so i'm doubtful as to think it can only catch large fish

No, same quest, same rediculously imposing task. Rilu of Asura has caught over 100 Lik and never gotten the silk. And she fishes to her limit basically every single day.
