Froglok Escorts are the uncommon in place of the Skippers, and Escaped Frogloks are the super rare. I went to the swamp at lvl 4 and was lvl 8 by the time I found four of them. I have 15 Bixle Berry pies from my fallen escort foe, it takes the death of about 5 or six Skippers before the escorts show, and in this time, only 4 escaped frogloks poked thier head out. They have the same faction ups and downs as the rest of the frogloks inthe swamp.

I can confirm the 8 pm to 8 am thing works. Loc was a bit different for me to find the escort. I found the escort at 2553+ and 1975 +. Only the capital Froglok Escort works as detailed by other people. Keep him alive and everything that wanders near the spawn start killing. He will not wander. So what i'd suggest is killing everything on the road area until you see a static Froglok Escort. I actually had him spawn at 7 am and thought i was toast for the night. however the escaped froglok continue to spawn even during the day so as long as you keep him a live your golden. You will begin to see mobs wander up to him. Kill EVERYTHING that does. Some will agro him. Save him... But after awhile you will see escaped running up from the water to him. I sat there and farmed a few extra (not lore or no drop on mischief server). I had 4-5 spawn in a row after awhile while keeping the area clean. Seems to be a guaranteed drop of the shackle, though on more then one occasion i had a double drop.

Go to the entrance of the brown path and in front of cabilis, you will see a stone pillar and kill all mobs you see. Large mosquitos, skellies, swamps etc .. stay at this spot.
PH are frogs fishers and skippers.
Be carefull to kill fast the escaped cause they can die in a tree and are impossible to loot even with a /target

an hour of killing in the newbie area just south of the succor point, in sight of the fort and guards got me 5 shackles in less than an hour. I got my spawns close together than none for the next 40 minutes. The run fast and yes, the other mobs try to kill them.

This was after trying all the other various islands and locations others have posted and not seeing one escaped in several hours of trying.
My experience

I'll just offer up my experience. First off, I spent like a day and a half (two or three sittings) running around between the various "islands" killing everything with no luck. I really had begun to think that maybe I was in the wrong zone or they had removed the escaped frogloks or something.

Then, I noticed a Froglok Escort. I turned the situation over in my head, all the various theories people have provided here, and decided that this sort of quest just usually doesn't get that complicated. It's typically a simple placeholder process, so I killed the Escort. That done, I continued running around the island (I had decided to concentrate on the island nearest the newbie area at this point) in hopes of progressing the spawn cycle if there was one.

Another Escort spawned, then another, with me killing them in turn. Then an Enforcer spawned, and I killed him as well. Shortly thereafter, an Escaped Froglok bounds along nearby. Ecstatic, I promptly pounced on him and killed him. Woot! I had one set of shackles. I didn't see any more Escapees for the rest of the day (game world time). I had begun to think that maybe some were right about them only spawning during the day or night hours, this case appearing to be night.

I decided to bring my 22 ranger in to track for me. I would kill them with the ranger and camp and log the necro on to loot. With my ranger in tow, killing just about everything on the island, I watched track through an entire EQ night with no Escapees showing up. About 10AM EQ time rolled around, and another enforcer popped (no escorts). I killed it and continued to watch track. Shortly thereafter, Escorts began to spawn one at a time. I killed three or four, and then Escaped Frogloks started spawning, sometimes two at a time. This continued for as long as I continued killing everything on the island between spawns (which were really just a few minutes apart at this point). I had looted eight shackles over the course of a couple of hours before I had to log for a while.

My conclusion? Nothing concrete, really. I'm not sure anything is linked to the day/night cycle. It didn't seem to be from my experience. For that matter, I can't really even confirm that the escorts have anything to do with the escaped Frogloks spawning. I guess there's not much I *can* confirm without a doubt beyond that they do spawn, and a tracker is nearly a requirement.

My suggestion? As others have suggested, go to that first island and just kill everything that moves, and keep 'em killed. Make the occasional run up and down along the w/nw side of the zone near the newbie area as you keep the island clear of mobs. Bring a tracker if you can. It makes all the difference. The Escaped Frogloks could be spawning without your even knowing it otherwise, and you may never see them, even if they path fairly close by.

Hope this helps.
Not too bad

Maybe I was just lucky, but I was able to get about 3 in an hour or so. I just completely cleared the first island south of Cabilis (well, its not really an island, more of a peninsula.) Didn't even go anywhere else. Killed every skipper escort tad and fisher in sight--the named version of the escort never spawned--along with all mosquitos, leeches and skeletons. Two escaped frogloks popped on the north part of the island. The second one hopped into a tree and disappeared on me, I didnt see where it went although I kept it on target, and something killed it before I could find it again. The third one was in the south near the fallen pillar. They popped roughly every 20 minutes.
Hunted these for 5 hours or so.

First off, follow the path out of Cabilis south to the second island. Here is where I started the slaughter. :D You must keep all of the "a large mosquito" and "skeleton" cleared. They will KOS the "escaped froglok". I've had them spawn and run up to them only to have 2 large mosquitos kos them before I could reach them. Start clearing the island till "froglok escort" pops. These will be KOS also. Do everything you can to keep the escorts alive. Patrol the island and kill anything else that moves. Tis mindnumbingly boring work but it works. I filled 6 of 8 slots like that. Now to get the last 2. Good luck

Spawned at loc 623, 3191 -- just west of the 1st island south of Cabilis. Took 3 hours of wiping out every mob I saw (focusing on frogs, but killing everything when there were no more.)

Right after I killed that one, a second one popped next to the 1st column near cabilis, at loc 2290 2613. He started walking west into the newbie area, and I killed him there (was running from the previous kill location to get this one.)

In the 1st two hours I focused on killing everything. In the last hour I focused mainly on frogs, and then the pops started.

Also note the name of the mob is NOT capitalized, nor is it "Escaped Froglok Slave" as mentioned above. "an escaped froglok" was the mob both times, and both times it dropped the busted shackle (and only the shackle.)
Spawnrate nerfed?

I've been looking for these buggers for 3 days now off and on (total probably around 8 to 9 hours) doing just about everything anyone's mentioned. I have yet to see even 1, and I've been using a ranger bot to track for them. The problems with the mobs getting stuck in walls and trees since the dx9 'upgrade' isn't helping I'm sure, but this is abserd... I've gotten these before for other quests and they were NEVER this rare. Anyone else having this problem?

Escaped Froglok Slave
# Jan 01 2004 at 9:42 AM Rating: Decent
Like everyone else, I was having problems finding the Escaped Froglok Slaves-so I decided to log on my 51 Bard for her tracking ability. After about an hour of wiping out the leeches that I read like to eat on the lil slaves, one finally popped up on track.
When I found the bugger on the island south of the Cabilis entrance (sry no loc), and he was almost completely inside a tree with only a-v-e from the word Slave sticking out. I should have charmed him and used Selo's to get us back to where my Necro had camped, but I used slow to get him to chase me(I let it drop very quickly).
Well, one of those leeches pops out while I am looking for my way point on my map, and beets the crap out of him. I get to the leech and kill it and my froggy escapes with 22% health. He is still going away from me and a gnawler jumps on us and I lose the froggy during the fight.
Haven't seen one since.

Am tryin to get them to spawn around the newbie area... lo and behold one spawns..... BUT a giant leach was beating on it, and of course i didnt get the kill. This is why they may be so hard to find as the leaches dont like them.... however they DO spawn around cabilis

I've spent some time in the Swamp of No Hope questing with my Iksar Monk and a friend of mine, both level 6. The MOB's were really sparse, and after a while we figured we'd just kill everything around the outside of the outpost that leads into Cabilis.
Low and behold, things start to spawn. We saw perhaps one escapee every 15 minutes or so. I'm not ertain how they're tied to the froglok escorts, because we slaughtered everything. But things moved right along. Got all my leach husks in 10 minutes and 2 shackles in 30.
My advice would be to bring a friend or two and just kill everything that moves, including mosquitos, leeches frogloks and anything else in there.
I hope this helps you guys as much as it helped us.

i dont know why u all are having the problems look this is fact.. just level up to 5,6,7 and got into the swamp. wlak around the newbie area and kill EVERYTHING THAT SPAWNS! Then turn around fast Cuz by that time u have atleast 1 escapey behind ucomming up ro hit u. i have seen about a dozen of these guys all over the newbie area today 11/27/01 at i guess it way about 9:45 PM EST. i got killed by 2 of them once they are a rare spawn so says everone else i say i cant get away from them u just go out there and look, wait, go kill everything, wait, then either kill the escapeies or u die cuz i had 2 once then later (level 5&6) i saw 4 running together. now go be happy and kill them cuz its not as hard as u guys are making it sound....

Here's a thought, guys... some people have tons of problems getting the escaped frogloks to spawn right? Well, if you talk to the taskmaster in East Cabilis, he says that he has the problem with the frogloks escaping... once in a while 3 "Froglok Slave"s will spawn. After a while, they boot it towards a zone line (FoB I think.) Now, I've noticed that a lot of people will kill these guys. Maybe that's the trouble? Think about it. They're not called "Escaped Frogloks" while they're still in the city. Maybe they don't spawn in the Swamp of No Hope unless those three in the city manage to escape? So if everyone stopped killing the ones in town, we could test this out, n'est-ce pas?

Cheers,

That's a good idea, but unfortunately it's wrong. They just stop at the FoB cave and stand in there to jump somebody. I had never thought about it until now, but there is no way to overcome the fact they are a really slow spawn.

What happens if you lost your first shackle as a lvl 1 Iksar monk? Any way to get another? Please help.
RE: Shackles
# Sep 17 2001 at 2:20 PM Rating: Decent
Yes, you must go back to the female iskar in the monk guild and tell her no, you do not have your shackle. she will give you a book, take it to the froglock trainer, you will have to complete the quest he gives you. then you take that item (i forget what it is) and give it the female trainer back at the monk guild, and she will give your bracer again. (i have had to redo this twice, its a pain in the ***** the first time becouse when i created my character there was no note, and the second time becouse i didn't have all items for the shackle of stone....)

An easy way, albeit time consuming way to get the escapees is to follow around the Froglok Escort, not a froglok escort, it must be the one with the capital letters. When you find one, just wait and every now and then things run to it, stop, and go about their business. Amongst those things are the escaped froglok slaves, and this is probably the easiest way to find them.

I am so sick of trying to find these escapies. I have been looking for 3 game days so far and seen not a one. I have killed every froglok that I have seen, except the one high level warrior froglok. hehe. Is there any way better than just sitting here? The island at the end of the road had nothing on it. HELP! I don't think its a good quest for the lvl 3 cap for a necro. The cap is only one AC and has too much rare stuff you have to get to get it.

when i was hunting these guys i just followed the escorts around till they stoped and in a min or 2 a froglok would run past him 3 out of 5 times it was the escaped froglok
WHO Gets the PEBBLES
# Jun 25 2001 at 10:32 PM Rating: Default
granite pebbles are used in several quests, not just warrior, or just necro, or just monk, or just sk. just like giant blood sacks are used for more than one quest. this is a little tidbit of factual information to end the squabbling about exactly WHO or WHICH class the pebbles are used for in quests.
FINAL WORD
# Apr 06 2001 at 9:16 AM Rating: Good
ok..I now have concrete proof as to where and what makes them spawn..(well as concrete as I can get and not work for Verant!).
These little buggers spawn ANYWHERE a Froglok can spawn. All froglok spawn points have level restrictions as to the level f the Froglok that can spawn there. (i.e. Froglok fishers are not gonna spawn over by the newbie area with the mosquitos and swamp leeches).
For those of you who are looking for them AND are above level 7, I have a spot for you. It will take patients but you CAN get your shackles here.

Follow the raod STRAIGHT down the center of the swamp, past the columns. Then swim straight across to the island where the road continues. Once on this island kill EVERYTHING as it spawns. I have seen as high as Froglok Fishers here so be cautious. Skeletons, Marsh Leeches, and an array of Frogloks spawn between the water and the fallen column. Almost 1 out of 5 Frogloks that spawn are Escaped Frogloks. They all have shackles and....until I posted this...I was there almost always ALONE during peak times. Easy island and not too much to kill you. You won't get much XP at level 7 but you won't die either...and you will accumulate shackles.

I've previously hunted the slaves for the monk quest. I had stayed on the first island on the road after the newbie area. This was ok as I was low lvl and still gettting xp... very long time to kill needed 6. But just the other day looking for a rest form FoB I was camping at the bandit camp off to the left of the newbie area and 2 slaves wo/escorts and 2 raiders (SK quest) walked right thru the middle of the camp. I laughed that ironic sort of laugh.

Escaped Froglok Slaves: hunting tips

With three different Iksar characters I've managed to kill 14 Escapaped Slaves and get 7 piles of granite pebbles. I've also seen a few more that either got away or were killed by somebody else.

I still haven't figured out what makes them spawn (sorry, I really wish I knew...), but here are some tips that may help you when hunting them:

Note: left and right are when standing on the path, facing away from the city gates.

All the escaped slaves I've actually seen spawn have popped up at various locations around the grassy area in the newbie hunting zone: where the Froglok Tads, swamp leeches, and misquitos are. (More specifics below.)

As soon as they spawn, they take off running for the swamp: most of them seem to head for the island just off the coast from the newbie area, then head to the right along the road or between the road and the coast. Some of them swim, again headed to the right from the newbie area, in the strip of water between the island and the mainland.

I don't know where they go once they get past the right-hand end of the road on the island: by them I've either killed them or lost track of them.

Specific places I've seen them spawn: on the slope of the hills to the right of the grassy area; in the low hills between the grassy area and the ruins outside the city gates; to the left of the path, near the pillars (between the path and the forest, but fairly close to the path); and at various places in the open grassy area itself.

As I said above: they take off running for the swamp as soon as they spawn, so you have to keep your eyes open or they'll be gone before you have a chance to catch them. A shiruken, bow, or other ranged weapon is very handy to pull them to you before they have a chance to run off.

Hunting tips:

Below level 6, I would recommend staying in the newbie area (the grassy area near the ruins outside the gate) and trying to catch them as soon as they spawn.

It's very easy to lose track of where you are if you go into the swamp, and if you die you have a good chance of losing your corpse permanently: at level 5 and below, you don't have much time to look for it.

At level 6 and above, alternate hunting slaves between the newbie area and the island. On the island, patrol in the forest to the right of the path (between the path and the water); go back and forth along the full length of the road on the island, staying mainly between the road and the water (on the side of the road toward the mainland).

The advantage of hunting the slaves on the island is that you'll be between them and freedom: they'll be coming toward you, not running in the opposite direction like they usually are when you see them spawn in the newbie area.

I have NO idea what actually triggers the slaves to spawn: I've tried killing every Froglok I saw in or near the newbie area; I've tried killing Froglok Escorts and I've tried letting them live. But I haven't seen any consistent effect on the slaves showing up. Sometimes I'll see three in a row in just a few minutes, then a couple more several minutes later. Other times I'll go for several hours straight without seeing any at all.

twhen inside east cabilis you will see the frogloks run to the fob zone they will stay there for a while and run to the swamp of no hope zone.

during this time (4am to 6am) the escaped frogloks will be in the swamp.
